Maggie carries music in her soul. She lives and breathes it.
Tanner is a reluctant temporary guitarist in her band. He wants the stability his day job offers, but Maggie sings to the wild side of his heart.
Maggie is equally drawn to Tanner: his talent, looks, and quiet humor. Every time they rehearse, the chords of passion between them deepen, proving the chemistry impossible to deny. They give in to lust, but try to safeguard their hearts, knowing they want different things from life. Maggie will never give up on her music, and while Tanner craves Maggie, he’s never wanted the life of a musician.
In the end, they must decide if they’re willing to adjust their dreams, or become another sad love song.
DK Marie’s a voracious reader. Her number one love is romance and devours any and all of its genres, but also enjoys thrillers, horror, and non-fiction. Basically, if there are words on a page and a spectacular story, she’s diving in, heart and soul.
However, there’s one thing she loves even more, and that’s writing her own steamy contemporary romances. They’re a mixture of heart, heat, and humor. Brimming with confident heroines and kind heroes, all living, loving, and lusting in and around her hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
When not falling in love with her characters, DK Marie is laughing, relaxing, and planning her next adventure with her family. Okay, and also drinking boatloads of coffee, chatting on social media, and dreaming about her next travel destination.
Attraction! You don't know when it will hit, but when two people with different goals are attracted to each other and are opposite from each other, could their love survive. Tanner focused on one thing is CPA, and to past his exam. Growing up in the music world, travelling from town to town, he didn't want that; he wanted stability, roots to call home. So when a Sexy lead singer caught his attention, could he play the guitar for the group until the lead guitarist came back. Anxiety at first facing the fans, he didn't want any part of it. But he loved to play; he was a natural, and Maggie saw it in him. But Tanner knew his attraction for Maggie, was limited; once his time was up, once Scarlett was to come back, will Tanner walk away from music he loved and go on his way to fill his dream of CPA. BUT THERE was one thing he knew is that his love for Maggie, would he leave her behind as well as the band. Maggie had rules in her life: her music and her band, and she didn't sleep with members of her band, those are her rules. Maggie had doubts that Tanner would not be a good fit; his image was all wrong. To clean cut and respectable, he just didn't look like a guy belonged in a band. But the moment he played his guitar she knew the looks didn't matter, only the music he was playing. But there was one thing Maggie didn't expect is how strong the attraction was between them. Could she break that one rule and not lose everything she worked so hard to make them a success. Could they have a relationship outside of the band, could she open her heart and feel how much being with him to be with each other?
I so loved this story, and it took me back in time when I used to follow individual band members. I just believe in how hard they work; some make it some don't, but the power of believing that you will - will overcome anything when you set your mind to it. Love and passion can also last but it won't is easy having two different worlds collide together, it's how you deal with it. I love Tanner and Maggie's story, and without saying or ruining the ending, this is a good read and I cannot wait if DK will write Will's story, I really want to know about him.
I absolutely adored this story. This book is just so well written. DK knows how to wield words like a skilled swordsman.
Maggie was my type of heroine. Strong. Feisty. Goal-driven. She’s a bit closed off in her feelings at times, but she’s been burned in the past, and it leaves her a little jaded.
“Hard to write what you don’t believe in. You’re like an atheist trying to write a poem about God.”
She truly doesn’t believe in love. Also, she’s not willing to risk losing the band that she’s worked so hard for. But she meets Tanner, her opposite in almost every way, but can’t help but fall for him. Her heart is torn between Tanner and her dream.
And it’s so easy to see how she falls for Tanner. He’s just an amazing hero. Gorgeous, kind, and he’s got such an amazing wit and dry sense of humor. I loved Tanner SO much.
Also I adored all the secondary characters in this one. Maggie’s brother had me rolling in he scene where he meets Maggie’s family. I was laughing so much at Tanner’s comments after the fact.
The story is just real. The conflict, I understood deeply. Both Tanner and Maggie have their goals, and the relationship between them two doesn’t fit into either equation. I felt their pain. HOW can we make this work and still have it all?
“I could love you if you’d let me” - GOD this line about summed it all up. It broke my heart when Tanner thought this. I was like YES YES, please let him love you.
“He wouldn’t tell her he loved her, wouldn’t even think it, but dammit, he’d cherish her body.” GOD this scene got me in the feels.
I was rooting for these two to make it the entire story.
I loved, loved loved the second book in the Opposites Attract series. I loved that we got engaging, real, raw emotional characters that you could put yourself in their shoes.
“Apart they were an incomplete melody. Together they were a unique, wondrous love song.”
Fantastic book. Bravo DK Marie. I can’t wait for the next story in this series.
I need another star, because I loved Book 2 in the Opposites Attract series even more than Book 1 (and I LOVED Fairy Tale Lies!)
DK Marie has quickly become one of my favorite romance writers. She writes classic romance, but with her own twist on traditional power dynamics. Love Songs does not disappoint!
Maggie, the dedicated, driven MC, captured my heart immediately. She has a plan, and it is about her band and her career. Nothing will deter her from following her path and realizing her dreams. Not even the hot, irresistible Tanner. Maggie is not giving up all she's worked for, even if it means losing the man she loves.
I love Maggie's spine of steel, and while my heart breaks for her when she has to make painful choices, I can't help cheering when she stays true to herself. I want to see more women like this in romance. More men like Tanner, too, please! I loved watching his perceptions evolve as he learned to love this woman who gave him all of herself in so many ways, but would not bend when it came to her dreams.
Maggie and Tanner definitely bring the heat we've come to expect from DK. Oh my! The janitor closet scene? Bring a fan!
5+ stars for Love Songs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, and strong, confident heroines.
Just finished book two of DK Marie’s Opposites Attract series and before I get started please let me say that I’m relatively new to reading romance novels and I was a little nervous starting Love Songs right after finishing Fairy Tale Lies. Well... shame on me.
What I carelessly forgot was DK Marie is an amazing writer and her story telling abilities greatly surpasses a single genre.
Entering this world I felt the energy, tension, and passion of a rock and roll band. The descriptive narrative pulled me in while the chemistry penned out before my eyes silently stole my heart. Desirable dialogue along with a well structured characters did everything right to sell me on this book, believable situations matched the day to day challenges facing a touring band and when the chemistry was right DK brought out the flame thrower with sex that is guaranteed to make you ache, (in all the good ways).
I’m giving Love Songs 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars, it’s gritty, sexy and full of passion, most of all it was fun to read.
Love the way DK Marie weaves a tale using phrases like 'bourbon eyes' and 'whiskey voice'. This rock and roll opposites attract love story gives all the satisfaction you'd expect from a romance with nice character development and strong, very hot, sex scenes that leave you all tingly. Perfect romance for a rainy day read (which we've had plenty of those).
Love Songs was a steamy romance with a realistic plot line and lovable characters. Even though this is the 2nd book in a series, readers could enjoy it as a standalone novel. It is definitely a page turner that will keep you invested until the end. I look forward to book 3 in the series.
Maggie told the last auditioner they would let him know as he snapped shut the case to his guitar. She’d never call him or any of the others who had tried out. The urge to kick Lincoln’s bass drum or scream at him was hard to resist. Detroit overflowed with musical talent but apparently none of the people who tried out had the spark, the thing that would set ThreePence apart from the millions of bands. Every member needed to be unique. Extraordinary. Like her current lead guitarist- Scarlet. The one who had gotten herself knocked up. Scarlet and her husband had wanted a baby for years, but their precious bundle was messing with Maggie’s future. Her dreams. She looked to Lincoln -her drummer- and Jayce her base guitarist and said please tell me there’s others we didn’t add to the list. Anyone else trying out. Both offered nothing. Maggie wrote most of their songs and sang them. Zia was their manager- and had known Maggie for a long time- said she found them a guitarist. It was her tutor who was an accountant. Soon to be a CPA. Zia said Tanner was around their age and cute. Tanner wondered why he had agreed to audition. He was a CPA or hopefully would be by next year. What he wasn’t was a musician. He had grown up Around music along with all the chaos surrounding it. His childhood was filled with late nights and selfish musicians. He had no desire to revisit it as an adult. He decided if they want him he’ll just say no. After his dad left, his mom couldn’t kick the musician habit. As a result he’d learned from the best and worst and taken playing multiple instruments. He found music soothed him. When he entered his teenage years it filled his wallet with cash. Last year, while fulfilling his required hours under a CPA. he lost most of his music gigs. He missed it. There was magic in creating music, watching it come together. Tanner’s mom started teaching him the piano around the time he learned to walk. Others schooled him in different instruments including the guitar well before he was in kindergarten. Music was as natural to him as breathing. Tanner was drawn to a tall woman . her cropped hair was straight with streaks of purple. Her neck was bare with a treble clef tattooed to it and notes dancing along her spine disappearing under her fitted white shirt. Tanner didn’t understand why he was entranced. He usually preferred more conservative women. If only his fingers didn’t itch to touch the strings of his Telecaster guitar. To hear it sing with a full band. If not for that, he’d run up the stairs and out the front door. Still, everything about it screamed upheaval and chaos. He didn’t need it, not even temporary. Maggie had taken taken the way the guy -Tanner- looked and written him off. Well until he had his guitar and made it sing like an angel. Switching flawlessly from one song to another. Tanner most definitely had what the band needed. Even so, he may not be a good fit. Jayce’s dislike for Tanner was clear. But maybe it was because Tanner equals Jayce’s playing, maybe even better. She asked Tanner if he was interested. Jayce was next to her and put his arm around her before she knew he was even there. She pulled away and said he was going out to smoke and he kissed her cheek before she could slap him. When had Maggie stepped into an alternate dimension? She’s checking out a boring accountant and Jayce is playing the attentive lover. Which was something he hadn’t been since he joined the ThreePence. All men were buttholes except Lincoln and her brother Levi. Maggie stood hoping to alleviate the heat beginning to stir where it shouldn’t. Maggie found herself with a mild crush on Tanner. His conventional look somehow worked, especially combined with his easy-going manner, and a wicked sense of humor. Maggie was trying to write a love song. When Tanner asked why she was frustrated, she said she was writing a love song. But she had never been in love. It’s no loss, she added. She didn’t want to love anyone but her family. Maggie had learned to give her body to a man, and keep her soul for music. Tanner’s attraction for Maggie intensified the more time he spent with her. Yet the fact remains she wasn’t the type of woman for him. He needed stability. Her drive was admirable but she was a musician. Their lives were chaos. She’d be like all the other ones he’d known growing up, including his dad. Their only desire is to travel from show to show, either building up or burning out on the successes and failures of their music. He’d been on the receiving end of the obsessive lifestyle with his mom and dad. No way, would he repeat it now. He needed to get to the gym and forget maggie with her Mona Lisa style, crappy dating style, and rules. Tanner Needed to forget the fierce woman-Maggie- the knockout with lush full lips hiding a pierced tongue. I absolutely loved this book. It seemed so realistic to me. I loved Tanner and Maggie together and how they interacted. It made me sad when they ended after the motorcycle accident. I loved the plot mad pace. I loved Tia and Maggie’s closeness. I loved how the chemistry was for Maggie and Tanner. This grabbed my attention right from the start and kept it until the very end. I happily could find nothing to criticize in this book. There were some typos but when edited they would be fixed. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
I read this story before the first one. I love that this can be read as a standalone but still has characters from the first book. Just makes me want to read the first one and learn more about Jacob. I really liked the characters from this story. Tanner is a musician turned accountant/CPA turned musician again...talk about HOT! Plus he sounds handsome as hell and like a great guy. Maggie is a musician with purple and black hair and the complete opposite of Tanner. I enjoyed this story but the time line was a bit confusing. It would seem like the next day but as you were reading it; it turned out to be months later so this story goes through a few months to a couple years I think but it wasn't laid out like I am used too. I wish it had been split up a little more so you know how much time had actually passed. I also wondered what was going to happen in this story considering how early the words "I love you" were said. This story had a lot of drama but seemed to be accurate when it comes to how that lifestyle is and how Jayce was acting. I personally didn't like Jayce and I wish he hadn't been such an A**hole! I don't really know what Maggie saw in him and why she would sleep with him. I also felt bad for her and the s**t Jayce was saying about her. Plus he kinda screwed them over with that article and then you never hear from him again which was a little weird but better for them. Tanner and Maggie's relationship was interesting but super passionate. I wish they didn't go back and forth so much on their feelings and what they wanted out of life. Tanner couldn't decide between being a CPA and being in the band/with Maggie and the band came first for Maggie but she really wanted Tanner. I need an epilogue with these two to see what happens in the future; the ending didn't really give me enough when it came to that. Do they get engaged?? Married?? Eventually have kids that Tanner talked about all the time?? Wonder if a third one will be coming out and we will find out?
Maggie's band has come first in her life since it started ... guys are a distant second and relationships aren't even on the chart. She is a rocker chick through and through. All Tanner ever wanted was a normal stable life with a house to go home to. Even though Tanner's a talented musician ... he doesn't crave that lifestyle. He did that his whole childhood being dragged by his parents from gig to gig. But when he gets talked into filling in for a lead guitarist's maternity leave and he comes face-to-face with Maggie, his life will never be the same.
I loved this book! Rock star romances are my favorite and this one is really different from the norm. In this one, the female is the rock star and the guy is just an ordinary guy .. well, not ordinary because he is a hunk who is a musical genius. The writer makes you feel like you are right there with the characters in their lives and I loved the banter between the characters ... it's so realistic. Situations were also very realistic ... like - even though Tanner and Jayce were in the same band, they hated each other ... I'm sure that happens in real life. This is one of those book that I just didn't want to end. I would love to see more stories with some of the characters in this book ... Lincoln, Amil, Will (Jacob's brother) and even though Jayce is a real a$$hole, I think he has a great story to be told. I highly recommend you read this story ... you won't regret it!
I received an early copy courtesy of Champagne Book Group through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
I must confess, I enjoyed Fairy Tale Lies, book 1 in this series, but I adore Love Songs more! Tanner is just this all-around great guy who is torn between the direction he believes his life should go, and the path he spent his whole childhood hating but runs deep in his soul. Maggie is the complete opposite. She knows exactly what she wants and will do everything in her power to make it a success, even at the expense of her own happiness. The author does a fabulous job of showcasing how strong and independent Maggie is while giving you snippets of her inner insecurities. Maggie doesn't trust easily so her vision of "success no matter what" sometimes hurts those around her, including herself. This a wonderful portrayal of discovering what's truly important in life and what you're willing to let go of to hold on to true love. I highly recommend Love Songs and I'm looking forward to the next installment of this wonderful series!
There is so much to love about this book. Maggie needs a guitarist to temporarily fill in since hers will be on maternity leave. When Tanner auditions, he’s the perfect fit. He makes it clear from the start that the band life isn’t for him and he has other life plans. When he and Maggie act on their growing attraction, the plans each of them has made are questioned.
The story has so many layers, the conflict between band members, misunderstandings and interpretations of words spoken, and life goals that are impossible to adhere to when compromise comes into play. I loved seeing these characters fall in love, but the best part of the story was seeing how these people, so seemingly opposite in their lives, made their differences work for themselves and for each other.
Anyone that loves rock-and-roll, strong and spunky heroines, and a hero that is more than he seems, this is an author to check out!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Threepence need a lead guitarist to fill in for Scarlett while she has her baby. Zia, their manager suggests her tutor Tanner. He doesn’t look much but plays like a dream. Maggie has a rule to not get involved with any band members, which also keeps Jayce at bay. Maggie and Tanner fight their opposite attraction until it explodes. With Jayces parents owning their instruments and the house they live in Maggie doesn’t want to risk him taking the band away from them. Maggies focus is getter her band to the top. Tanner is also torn between playing music and living the life he planned. I really enjoyed the passion in the characters. Their large friendship group makes for great reading too.
This book was amazing! The opposites attract made kicked the steam up a notch, compared to book one. One of the things I liked, was that you could read this book as a stand alone, without having read the first book, and it would be fine. But having read book one, it was cool to see how they dovetailed, with characters from book one making cameos in this one. I like that even though they are in the rock and roll scene they are not portrayed as being completely lost to drugs and alcohol. This couple worked through their issues in their own unique way, and this book was steamier than the first, but it was GOOD. DK Marie is a romance master, crafting a perfect romance story! Definitely looking forward to book three!!
So, I'm no romance buff but this book was killer. I enjoyed every page. I thought I was strictly fantasy but this story has taught me I love love. The push and pull, the cute interactions, the wanting to but restraints due to unknown consequences. Almost like a forbidden love type thing. The story is so real to life with real life struggles. There's so many things we don't say because we're afraid even while we're in a relationship. No one wants to hurt, ah. The lessons. Oh and I love how the singer's voice is described, raspy and whiskey, what a combo.
A seductive, steamy and sweet romance. Yes, the combination exists. Maggie and Tanner are gorgeous, flawed, layered characters. What I loved most about this story is that, despite their differences and the believable, real challenges they face, it’s also easy to see why they would be good together. It’s not a stretch or forced. They have a shared passion and complement each other in the best of ways. And of course ... sexual tension, lots and lots of it. Reading this was a pure delight. Don’t hesitate: Buy, sit back and enjoy!
I loved reading about Tanner and Maggie May. I didn't read book one of Opposites Attract but I've been hooked and need to go back to it. The story for book two was well-written and I adored the characters. They're both so relatable and the band was a bonus. Can't wait for more from this author.
I really enjoyed this spin on the rock star love trope. When one of her bandmates needs to go on maternity leave, CPA-bound good guy Tanner steps in as a guitarist. Opposites attract as Maggie and Tanner's onstage and offstage attraction becomes incredibly clear. But can they ever exist as a couple when they are so very different? The spicy scenes spiced and I HATED Jayce in this book, LOL! A nice, short read with a satisfying HEA.
This was an okay read, but I'm not sure I'll be reading the rest of her books? The story didn't really grip me and the plot was drawn out and not particularly riveting. There was a lot of communication failure to cause tension and that's one of my least favorite tropes.
The spice was ok, but not super hot. Descriptive, but I'd probably only give it 2-2.5 peppers.
Another great story that has to be read. Well written and enjoyed it immensely. Tanner and Maggie are totally different. Different goals, choices, and futures. All that can change in an instant, a glance, or a smile. The only problem is self-doubt, temptation, and minds. One can find love, but to keep it is another thing. Struggles internally and externally can cause anger, fear, and misjudgment. Follow their story and hope for the next book.
What a great second novel from DK Marie! This book is super hot with the perfect amount of heart and humor I’m coming to expect from DK Marie. Tanner is working hard to be a good man living a conventional life. Maggie is an intelligent, sensual and very talented musical artist whose naughtiness balances Tanner perfectly. Love this novel and can’t wait for more!
I thoroughly enjoyed this "Opposites Attract" story! They definite make some "passionate music" together. I enjoyed Maggie and Tanner's story. They are complete opposites but the attraction is real. Tanner is an accountant/musician. Maggie is a musician with fun hair. This is such a good story. Together they make some beautiful music.
DK does another great opposites attract story! This time it's not so much about class differences, but instead we've got a couple of people who are just on the opposite sides of the personality spectrum. Tanner is unfocused and figuring out where he's going in life, while Maggie is driving her train straight in the direction she knows she wants. Great story, lots of heat!
My favorite characters were Tanner, Lincoln, and Amel. Maggie got under my skin at times, but I appreciated her wild energy and fire. The story is a page-turner after the first chapter with seamless point-of-view switches and great tension between the characters throughout. I can't wait to read the next book in the Opposites Attract series!
This is a great read with an awesome storyline that has well developed and engaging characters that have lots of chemistry. The smooth flow of the storyline makes for a good reading time.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in the series but is the first one I have and I cannot wait to check out the first book. I really enjoyed getting to know Tanner and Maggie they were good likable characters. The storyline was well done and held my interest I will be checking out more from this author.
Well-written with likable characters. I love how well Tanner and Maggie work together even though their styles, attitudes, and views we're opposites. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
