Mimika Cooney wrote her first story idea on a typewriter at the age of ten. It took her 40 years and 4 career changes to finally come back to her first love of writing.

Build Your AUthor Platform with a Purpose, by Mimika Cooney is a helpful branding and platform building guide. Mimika shares her extensive book marketing experience to tell authors out what they need to do before and after they write the actual book. Gone are the days of just writing. Authors must do the legwork for marketing and selling their books. Mimika breaks down this intimidating process into bite-sized pieces.

While she’s big on how to connect with an audience, she’s a bit skimpy on a few of the finer points of putting together a press kit and some of the general flow of ideas. I would also disagree with her premise of writing the way one talks, but that’s probably because of my teaching background; I tend to be more formal as my general style.

Her branding blueprint is spot on though, and I can’t wait to get started with her ideas. The most motivational quote for my takeaway is this: “You were born to share your story, your talents, your gifts, and your message of hope—for such a time as this!”

This book has been incredible! I feel like I have been floundering in how to get my words out there, but this book has been the best map I've been given for direction in how to build my platform. Now I feel like I can be intentional with a step by step process to build a platform and seriously begin the journey towards becoming an author. Mimika is super practical in her writing. She is clear and concise so I don't have to guess what she means. I'm already working through the steps she has laid out in the book! I feel so much better with a plan!

If you are looking to build your platform, write a book, grow your influence, become a speaker on stage or through podcasts this book is a must read. Mimika has incorporated the perfect amount of personal story with practical concepts. I will leave this book within arms reach as I work on building my own author's platform. Build Your Author Platform With A Purpose exceeded my expectations! I knew Mimika would deliver GREAT content, but had no idea how much! She covers everything from platform building to paid advertising along with so much valuable information in between. To my pleasant surprise, she even answers unspoken questions I had about marketing, email marketing and social media.

Mimika covers all there is to know from building a platform to publishing a book successfully－in such a clear and concise manner. This book is also well thought-out and perfectly structured. Create a PLATFORM? What? You mean to tell me that I can't JUST focus on the writing aspect of publishing any book I write? I honestly did not know about creating a Platform for my book, and I especially didn't know that I need to do it even before I publish my book, whether I publish traditionally or go the self-publishing route!

The author’s talking points include common mistakes authors make, the importance of email lists, the business of branding, and tools for building platforms. She encourages readers to be confident in their message – don’t feel the need to be like everyone else. I found Build Your Author Platform to be an extremely easy book to read and understand. The author provides so much useful content that I have underlines on almost every page! If you are someone who is interested in defining your target audience, branding your content, and so much more, this book is an excellent resource and I highly recommend your grabbing it next time you are shopping on Amazon!

Chock-full of information

Mimika’s book is dense and so full of information I could’ve saved myself hundreds and hundreds of dollars if I have this book a few years ago. I will need to re-read this book over and over.

I highly recommend this book.

It's like a master class in platform building. This book is one I'll refer back to for some time to come.

If you're a newer writer, it's a great read to learn more about platform building. For more seasoned writers, you can use it to solidify your marketing and reader outreach plans.
