Very sweet story.

Happy made me cry. I loved hearing the dog’s messages. She had quite a story and two owners who loved her. A dog’s love is a healing love..

This was an okay read, but not quite what I expected. I was looking for more humor, maybe some good old-fashioned feel-good aaaaaws, a bit of Lifetime movie-like sapiness.

Never mind. There's probably more than enough sap.

Bottom line, this book strikes me as something a motivational speaker would write. Because I happen to agree with the worldview represented, I didn't find it to be annoying, but others with a more cynical outlook on life probably wouldn't be impressed.

The sweet dog and her upbeat philosophy deserve a thumb up, but the writing is only so-so.

Highly imaginative. Short with 152 pages and a very readable story. Clear storytelling and to-the-point type of writing. Lots of lessons in it, even if most of them one learns through the process of living.

The problem-solving part and making friends out of rivals idea are excellent. I think it would make a good gift for a teenager or a child of about nine-ten years of age, and possibly to everyone in the government business in Washington DC.

It is not only lessons from a dog, however. There is a story with a good plot and some quite-well developed characters.

I was worried at one time that, after halfway through the book, the dog Happy would die at the end, but the ending was another lesson to learn from Happy and it was a happy ending. I am grateful that the author let Happy/Greta live on. I don't take well to dogs' dying, especially in fiction.

Then, I also liked it because decades ago, I used to tell my kids that our Newfoundland Joe (now RIP) talked to me and told to tell them what to do, which worked pretty well for us all. Who else but a dog would know what to do and how things work deep down inside?

I didn't know what to expect going into this book, this isn't my usual type of book to read. But, I have a soft spot for dogs, so I decided why not. This book was just what I needed, and although some parts don't seem logical (to me), it was a good read. It was uplifting and a little eye opening to me.
I enjoyed this book a lot, and I do believe that shelter dogs have something special to offer. The insights in this book made me think about how we go on about our daily lives, and all too often on how we fail to look at the bright side. Regardless of what we may be going through or how difficult it may be, remembering what is good, is important.
Also, I love Happy's commandments

So much more than Conversations with Dog...

I’m almost speechless after just finishing this book. I expected a good dog story and I got one but it was so much more. Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows about their unconditional love and this story about a golden haired dog who gently leads his owner and you, if you’re paying attention, to learn or remember how to be joyful, to accept and to love.
I never expect to feel better after reading a book but I do after reading this one. I feel as though I have another couple of tools with which to live a better life.
Too profound? How’s this... You’ll love Happy the dog and wish you could find one just like her for your own. Definitely a good read.

Conversations with a dog: adventures of a 4 legged guru

We all have that strength within. Very challenging to find it among life’s day to day happenings. Sometimes though, we need to squeeze in a few moments of quiet to find ourselves again. Dogs know who love them. They accept us as we are, as we do them. They learn our language as well as our habits. We meet them at their level and understand their needs too, and a relationship is formed. We have our ears up, and tails wagging!

Okay but not believable

Although the book was enjoyable, the premise was flawed. Happy made it seem like all dogs just loved everyone, even people that abused them. That’s simply not true. I’ve read of dogs that didn’t do well with any men because they had been abused by a man, and others when abused or even teased had tried to attack their tormentor even though they were separated by a fence or they were wearing a muzzle.
There were also some typos that I found distracting.

Sort of sappy

It's ok. A quick read that used pop psychology and a few AS it any 12step euphemistic lesson outline. There's nothing here you can't or won't read on a poster of inside a Hallmark greeting card.
Essentially a feel good who strike that love fixed everything so just stop worrying and get on with your life. My only objection is that the message gets muddled by all the ridiculous sophistry of feel good advice and drivel.

Simplistic positive message of happiness, love and kindness drilled over and over. I ended up skimming towards the end Bc I knew what would happen. It wasn’t bad, yet was a bit too cheesy for me at times. Life is not that simple. I think I could have handled the books message without some of the sappiness, maybe a little humor? Had hoped for a dog connection book, felt like I was in Sunday school with Suzy Sunshine.

The good and not so good!

Sweet story with a solid message. Whoever edited this book should taken grammar lessons. The number of errors is astounding. For this one reason I would not recommend to students.

How rare it is that you find a book that can literally change your life. Written clearly, it held my attention and I found it hard to put down. The lessons Happy taught me will stay with me always. Highly recommended read! We all need to hear this.

Big smile

Good for all dog lovers. A little bit saccharine, but that’s okay. We animal people are a little goofy anyway. And there’s a lot of wisdom and plain old truth in the pages. As Cesar Milan says, dogs live in the moment. We should too.

Happy a miracle in progress

This is an absolutely awesome short book to read.
I only hope that my little girl, Dakota Marie was able to correspond with me in such a manner when she was called to cross 'the Rainbow Bridge's many months ago.

I enjoyed this story but I was expecting something else entirely. I felt like this was an inspirational teaching like The Secret cleverly written in conversations with a dog.

Apart from a few grammatical errors this novel is an absolute delight. Happy is the perfect guru who demands only belly rubs and love for her wisdom.

It's a fast and enjoyable read, though I confess to going through a few tissues in the last 20% of the book. For dog-lovers and those of us with open minds and hearts, I highly recommend Conversations With Dog.
