When Halek Cain and his allies search for a new home, the exodus fleet faces their ancient enemies right when a captured scientist unleashes deadly experiments.
Alon scout ships are drawing the exodus fleet into a trap.
Two disparate civilizations must work together to move a massive, broken down fleet into a new system while dealing with external threats and an internal crisis. Doctor Ayers has attempted to revive an alien race through DNA splicing, but instead of resurrecting the past, he’s created unstoppable creatures of extraordinary power.
The last Reaper and his allies have no choice but to fight against this new enemy, protect the exodus fleet, and find a new home for thousands of displaced survivors.
The only thing that matters now is winning the right to stay alive.
“On a ship, the captain is the king and admirals are their deities.” I can’t get enough of this series! An action packed thriller with a great tale that will keep readers invested in these characters and leave them wanting more. A wonderful, personal and emotive premise, with complete inter-action between new characters from the newly appointed exodus. The Reaper is no longer alone, and has more to worry about! Emotional scenes and shocking revelations, horrifying discoveries, an over zealous and sneaky scientist, deadly experiments..Truly engrossing! Read it in one day, so immersive a story! Can’t wait to read Will of The Reaper #7!
Cain and crew need to visit Macabre to get the codes to revive his mum and sister from cryofreeze. However Macabre is a volcanic planet of molten lava. A satellite in orbit will call a submersible to to the surface to allow them to get the codes. Dr. Ayers is taken along too. Once they have the codes, Cain is reunited with his family and the hidden Doorway can be opened only to reveal cryopreserved alien-human hybrids of varying degrees including Biggs! Can Dr. Ayers be trusted (do birds back fly?!)? What will happen if the hybrids get out?
Great. I look for SciFi that is more than just a lot of battles. I need to read stories that are the development of characters and situations. It is getting harder and harder to find those types of stories and writers seemed to be fascinated with just the battles out in space and the types of vehicles they can invent to shoot at each other and the long details of such battles. To find that these two authors have created this series in the forbidden FIRST PERSON is amazing and not only the main character is so interesting, but they have built characters around them, giving each supporting friend and adding bad guys with interesting personalities make what battles happen well worth reading. If you want a touch of humor along with a cigar, these stories are what I highly recommend.
I keep reading this series because Tom Taylorson is amazing on the audio. But the story is somewhat weak; I say this because I've read a lot of scifi where the action is much more intense. I like Chaney in general and have read a lot of his work. But somehow Reaper Cain just doesn't get into the really edge of your seat kind of trouble that I expect. He does get into big trouble, just not the on-the-edge kind.
It may be that Cain's relationship with 37 is very sharp and witty, which is highly entertaining but doesn't lend itself to death-defying battles. I'm never on the edge of my seat.
That said, this is like a very enjoyable comic book. Kind of like Guardians of the Galaxy. More fun than riveting. I do care about the characters, but not in the way I have in other books.
I'll keep reading because of all those reasons. I don't always need another Joe and Skippy; sometimes a lighter story is preferable. And I'm not kidding about Tom Taylorson. The guy is amazing as a narrator. He brings the story up about 3 notches.
Well written but boring and boringly predictable. The authors again produce a book that is i immensey readable. However the saving of Cain's mother and sister was expected but boring. The fights were also less than what I have come to expect from Chaney and Moon. That being said there are very few editing errors and it is a quick read. Time to move on to the next book in the series
This book was a great read .It had plenty of action and a lot of broken trust in this one. The doctor woke up A little over a dozen of the slayer things and took two with him and left the rest on the ship to fight the good guys and these slayer types things are strong and mean as could be.
I enjoyed this addition to the Reaper series. I began reading this as a filler between other military science fiction series I have been following, but now it is one of my go to series. The Last Reaper has became one of my favorite Military Science Fiction space opera’s.
Great book guys. Just started book two of Sol Arbiter. I like that Cain is becoming more human. Great new baddies as well. Looking forward to getting into the new book.
Another excellent story in the Halek Cain series. I love the characters and the story just keeps getting better and better. I would highly recommend the whole series, but you can read this as a stand alone book as well. It is good.
I really enjoyed this book and am enjoying this series. I think the main character was too trusting of the character who escaped and caused problems, but if he was not, the story would not have been as interesting. So it works out. 😃
Halek Cain has made some more friends as he, joined by Elise, Tom, Path and Henshaw use their captured stealth carrier to add serious firepower that Jelly lacks. Then they are faced with a new, nightmarish enemy.
This book ticked back down. Parts of the book were too long, the flight through the asteroid belt, the poker game, basically anything in the book that was not related to the slayer could have been trimmed back. The whole book just felt bloated with ancillary filler.
This series has really grown from the fate of one reaper to the survival of two fleets! The charachters have grown in development and the plot moves at a steady pace!
Pretty close to being done with this series. The MC is like a child and needs to grow up to make this any more enjoyable. Last chance in the next book.
I get high or low on a series based on the characters, for the most part. And the Reaper is a terrific character. This time there is a threat that they handled badly, and it's going to hurt everyone.
To be specific, there are some stasis pods with some experiments in them. The doctor who did the experiments is absolutely nuts. Everyone says to space 'em. But do they? No. They do everything the opposite, and it brings a high price. And the evil doctor isn't watched closely enough to prevent his escape.
Our Reaper could have prevented it, despite the interests of others to study these experiments. But he can't do it. I hope he learned his lesson.
Why, you might ask, would I give 5 stars if I didn't like the way the story went? Because people are like that. They do things I don't think are the right things. They have to be accountable, they have to atone.
This won't be so easy to fix. And look out. The Alon are in the neighborhood.
An excellent series, a fun and snarky read, fast-paced.
I have read the entire series and I find the whole series of five out of five. In the beginning it took a while for me to get into the series and into reaper himself he’s kind of a douche. But as the series as well as this book goes on how develops a personality and begins to care about his teammates. I wish he would get some additional Reba augmentations, and I believe in my opinion that the AI known as jelly should be placed in the stealth carrier that contains a faulty AI. I love his court team especially X. Will be a eagerly awaiting the next book. If you have not started reading the series I urge you do so.
Halek Cain is a reaper. The last one. A true fighting machine. But he has a soft side, for his friends. He tries to hide it, but it surfaced on a daily basis. Cain and his crew are searching for a new home. He has new allies, but now they are fighting against a scientist who has created demonic monsters from humans. Ultimate fighting machines. This is an extremely fast paced action thriller. Enjoyed immensely!
Cain , Elise, Path, and Tom have teamed up with the Xad's and the Wallach's to find a new home. If course going through the slipstream can be dangerous. Not counting running into planet's that are dangerous to life forms. Plus they open the hidden doors that hide Neb's fantastic creatures. And Cain has found and awakened his mother and sister.
We are now travelling with Halek Cain, Elise and Co. and the fleets of Wallach and Xad to find a new world for them all. Halek is concerned with finding the codes which will enable him to revive his mother and sister from their cryosleep. But meantime , he has a mad scientist with the frightening fruits of his experiments to deal with, a run in with the Alons and evidence of an alien race. Just a normal run for Reaper Cain! Good fun.
This story continues to entertain. Cain is becoming a much more likeable character as he continues his quest. His band of misfits are gelling into a cohesive unit taking on bigger and badder foes. A highly enjoyable series. Well worth reading.
Cain and his team continue traveling with the ships from Wallach and Xad. The reaper reconnects wit his mother and sister and deals with various dangers that confront them, mostly some alien DNA modified monsters that are pretty deadly.
What I mean is while the story is not outstanding, it is not bad either. The characters are not outstanding, but they grow on one. While the length is middling, it has still managed to hook me into the storyline. Guess I’ll be there in November.
Is becoming more "human". He doesn't like having others depend on him but he will do whatever it takes to protect his friends and family. Now will they be the first to find Aliens?
Never ever disappointed!! Yet another truly engaging story from two amazing authors! As with the rest of the books in this series, I couldn't put it down till I'd read it all!!
