Hannah Linfield didn’t know who she was. Not really. But over the past nine months some of her memories had begun to return. Only… along with them, came more questions.
Questions about her brother. Questions about her past.
And it looked like both of those things were catching up to her. Which left Hannah torn.
Between Cole and Liam, she already had her hands plenty full. Not to mention her own nagging conscience, the one that kept reminding her that what she was feeling was wrong. So… the most pressing questions still remained unanswered.
How far would a girl be willing to go to get answers? And for that matter, how far would the men in her life let her?
Okay I swore I wouldn't care what happened but this ending sucked. I was totally team COLE and no way could I stand a three way. Worst part of the book. Very sucky and I am sorry I caved to find the end. I wanted Cole all the way and I hated Liam so the end of the book sucked for me. Big time. Just not right. Stupid plot line. Not good. Sorry because the writing was good but the heroine was just a slut to me. I hated her. I felt for Cole and. I hated her and Liam. Ruined the story for me. I can't believe I paid for this book. It sucked.
I had such high expectations for this series after loving the first book. The second book was a waste of money as nothing significant happened until the very end. This third book was better, but the characters took until the end to re-connect and even then it wasn’t cohesive. I can’t explain too much without spoilers, but I wished there had been more character development, less drama and action.
I did enjoy the twist of how the apocalypse started, that was new and terrifying…especially knowing how much we currently depend on this thing.
Four stars for the overall series. Great writing, wonderful concept, just wished the execution had been different.
I finished this book lastnight but needed sometime to figure out how I felt about it. I enjoyed the book, still loved the characters and the way they evolved through all the books. I loved the story line and the way it drew you in and made you invested. I didnt like the ending, it felt anticlimactic and I felt cheated somehow. I would recommend this book though and will be reading more from the author.
Overall I liked this book and the series (1 - 3). That said, like other reviews I'm also left feeling somewhat unsatisfied.
The good? This author can write AND she can tell a compelling story. That combination can be hard to find sometimes. It was easy to connect to the characters and feel for them. The suspense plot, the post-apocalyptic setting, the choices one would have to make - really pulled you into the world and kept you thinking about it outside of the times you were actually reading.
The bad? More like 'missed opportunities '. The first and second book was spent getting to know this group of soldiers that came together and built a life in this new screwed up world. We came to know and love each of them. Then poof! They all disappear off the page at the end of the second book. What seemed like the promise of two additional romances besides the main throuple die, literally.
Then Lena, in book 3, falls into a relationship with a new character. A relationship that we don't get to see develop. This is doubly dissatisfying because our main throuple weren't together in book 2 and didn't reconnect till the very end of book 3.
This book/series succumbs to the usual problem with romantic suspense - a lack of balance between the 2. Book 1 felt like it was doing a good job of giving you a romance along with a suspense/dystopian plot. Book 2 however was heavy on the latter and in book 3 the romance was almost non-existent.
Would I recommend this series? Yes. The writing and story are that good. But if you're looking for romance I would direct you elsewhere.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m giving this series as a whole a solid five stars for our enjoyment.
I read the first three books in one 24 hour period so it definitely grabs you.
Now that the main story has been basically resolved I can look at the three books as a whole story and really get a feel for it.
Honestly, this series reads like a binge worthy TV show...action, adventure, romance, wild plot lines and twists...it’s awesome.
What sticks out like a sore thumb is the polyamorous threesome relationship between Hannah and Cole and Liam....it’s weird and awkward. I kept hoping it would get better but it never did. It got kind of worse, in a way.
I wish the guys had admitted that they loved each other and wanted to see each other happy just as much as they wanted Hannah. Something to cement them together other than “we both want her and we won’t make her choose so we will just accept it oh well we are a threesome now”
It felt forced and made me cringe a few times here and there.
BUT thankfully the romance aspect was not the crux of this story...it had a kickass plot and lots of action and great side characters.
The only other thing I could say was that the constant secrets being kept by everyone even though it kept putting people’s lives in danger got a little stressful to read after a while...but, hey, that’s not the worst trope I’ve read lately and it was well done so it’s all good.
I plan to read the next installment after I digest this story a little more...
OK. I finished it. I'm still annoyed I had to READ books #2 & #3 to get to the END of this part of the story, but once IN the story, it was, pretty good, overall. There were issues, I felt, with the end ~ I thought it was rushed and "too easy". Yes, the author had placed the breadcrumbs, so it wasn't a SHOCK, but it seemed too neat ~ too tidy ~ too quick.
Having said that, I did think the idea of *what we remember* ultimately then frames who we are at the moment to be something to think about ~ as a daughter & sister, Hannah was a mild, follow-orders kind of young woman. All on her own, she was a bad-ass survivor. As an undercover operative, she was purpose-driven. Her time in the wall/with and after Andy/in the compound/underground ~ all showed different 'sides' of her. That was well done. I also liked her struggle with 'can I love two men at the same time?' ~ a solid existential concept, not to mention defying societal norms.
Will I choose to read the remaining three books? As they delve into new relationships ~ and as I'm still irritated at being baited ~ probably not. Do I care about these new people? No. Do I care about what happens within the Wall? A little bit ~ but only insofar as to know what happened to the OTHER Walled Enclosures. Did the code wipe them out, too? Who has taken charge of them? Can Uri extend his power? Those would be what I'd be reading for, and I'm suspecting it's going to just morph into 'will Cass remember?' ~ so, no. Not now, at any rate. I will also go back and amend my book #1 review ~
Surviving The Wall (Outlasting Series Book 4) by LK Magill is truly a fast-paced, compelling read that held me completely in it’s thrall. There wasn’t anything about this book/series that I did not like and found the characters especially captivating. Throughout there is an sense of what if as each of the main characters reflect on heartbreak, trauma and loss. The plot of this part of the series provides the reader with a great deal of information and challenging revelations. Hannah is not only reunited with her long-lost brother, but also finally with Cole and Liam. With continuous action, there’s never a dull moment. And in addition to the action there’s plenty of emotional drama too that kept me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath or biting my nails. There are many moments of utter sadness, hopelessness, helplessness, ups and downs and on the flip side, relief, a bit of happiness and hope for a positive outcome for all. Overall, a very well written book that finally provides some answers, revelations and some resolution for Hannah, Cole and Liam, but now on pins and needles for Book 4!
This is the last book in this trilogy, however there will be one more staring some characters from this book.
After having found that his compound friends and brothers are dead and the girls are missing Cole unravels. Liam has left him and without his support, Cookie has to step up and try and reason with him. He is ready to go alone on a suicide quest to get her back immediately.
Hannah and Lena find themselves in the far south, but anchorage is a man that Hannah never though she would see again. Her brother Uriah.
Both find themselves in a guided box for their safety, however it is not long before a blast from their past arrives and new challenges come. Especially when Cole and Cookie eventually turn up.
With injury, fights both within themselves and outside, Hannah hatches a plan to help with the war, but being ignored she insists help to get herself back to the Wall. But helping comes at a price when she cannot remember anyone.
A brilliant ending wrapping up all of the loose ends and leaving us with a happy ever after.
LK had me captivated from the start with these books. This one however seemed to continue on in a way that it didn’t keep me quite as involved. It is almost as if there’s too many things happening compared to the first two books. In those there was one main goal and that’s all that was covered. In this it’s almost as if it could’ve been split into two separate books. I was excited when the first main goal was achieved, but confused when I was only halfway through the book. I wish the romance aspect was a little more rounded out in this book as it felt as though it was put on the back burner for the majority of the book, with some little tidbits thrown in here and there. I would still recommend these books to others despite these views. I was pretty excited about the ending and lack of cliff hangers in this one though ;)
This series continues but I don’t think I will. Book 3 concludes the story for the main couple. However, it managed to throw in too much of the things I don’t like. A little too much miscommunication and the story went more heavily into the military aspect of the remaining world and less about survival. I also was kinda underwhelmed by the big plot reveal. The FMC lost all her backbone and the men were less protective and more patronizing. The romance was there but again our main players weren’t even around each other for much of the story. I just wasn’t that invested in anything enough to care beyond the romance and I felt the ending was not nearly enough payoff for the angst I had to experience to get there. This wasn’t bad. I just didn't like it.
Heartbreak, danger, suspense, and finally a happy ending
This story is a wonderful continuation of books 1 and 2. The world-building and character development is beautiful, so detailed I was living the story as I read. The slow revelations of what caused the war and our heroes' (Uriah, Hannah, Cole, Liam, Jameson, Cookie) attempts to fix the resulting problems are difficult and dangerous. The heartbreak endured by Liam, Cole, and Hannah is so real that I felt for them. The plot makes perfect sense and brings important surprises. The happy ending brings closure and happiness to the reader.
Yes! I am so glad that I didn't drop this series. This book is worth reading. At last answers are finally given and some sort of understanding is possible.
When she saw the little dark-haired pixie again, she’d be able to hand them all over. After all, like Lena had said, someone had to record their story. Someone had to list the names of the people that mattered, the people that sacrificed so that they could be free. Someone had to write down the truth of what it was like surviving the Wall. Because they had survived. And now… well, now it was time for them to really live.
Another great continuation of the series. Again, there were plenty of story to go along with the book, so it's not as romance-heavy. I enjoyed seeing the fruition of all the suspense that happened in the previous 2 books. This book marks the happy ending of Hannah, Cole, and Liam's relationship. I will say that out of the 3 books, this was my least favorite (which is usually the case for series for me). There is 4th book about a different couple so I'm hoping to read more about what the end of the Wall looks like.
*Except, huge execpt, dropping by at least 2 full stars, for the . I fucking hate this trope, which always makes me feel like the whole series ended up being a meaningless waste of time. My 2 star rating is honestly generous and only because I do think it was otherwise very good.
Surviving the Wall: A Strike Team Three Novel is the third and final book in the Outlasting Series. This is a great ending for this trilogy. It is well written and neatly wraps up all of the unanswered questions from the previous two books. Exciting and original, this was a real page-turner.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book brought it all together! It was EVERYTHING! I LOVED IT SO HARD! Liam, Cole and Hannah Mae finally found their way back to each other snd it was so bittersweet. I didn’t want it to end. I read book 1 months ago. Then just recently I decided to continue the series and it was worth it. I highly recommend this series.
Surviving The Wall surpassed my expectations in every way. The plot was increasingly complex, relations developed, battles begun and even the snow was darn cold. It was wonderful to walk with those wonderful characters. To cheer and cry as events unfolded. And the sure do unfold!
Wonderful, outstanding and rich! These are only a Few word for the series so far. I loved these three books I couldn't put them down. The characters quickly became friends and you had to feel for them. Well worth the money.
Not very often I immediately buy the next in a series, but the Outlasting Series is definitely one to do so. You get right into the lives of the characters and just can't wait to find out what happens next. A definite must read series
I didn't expect to like these books. However I can't put them down! I'm such a Liam fan! Omg Cole is ok, but I want her to Choose Liam. Good work! I hate when the book ends, so I immediately go into the next. Its like chain smoking! Im soooo addicted
I had to skip from 8% to 92% just to know how it ends. I read the first two books. The 1st one was good. But the author decided to drag this into three books. Obviously, it was a bad idea. I wanted to DNF so hard but I stayed to read the end.
