Women & Men in the Word - Old Testament

Rate this book
For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.
—Romans 15:4

As followers of Christ, we are to be women and men of the Word, people who open our Bibles to meet with God and learn more about Him and His great love for us. And when we read, we find men and women who are, in many ways, a lot like us. Some walked in faith, some stumbled in darkness. Some were used powerfully by God over long seasons, and others had lesser known parts to play in the story of redemption. But every one is important because God saw fit to include them in His Word.

She Reads Truth

She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.

If you are loving for a good devotional I highly recommend this one.
Not Only are we following the men and women in the Bible at least a few of them that stood out in the old testament. We also have the devotional formatted similarly to the typical she reads truth devotionals where we have a weekly truth and a great stay which are just shorter key verses to go through throughout the week. But something that the other books have not have at least that I’ve read by them is recipes each week there was a new recipe to try and I’ve marked a few of them that I want to try in the future that sounds really good and I thought that was really interesting and unique because I’ve never seen that done and devotional before

This Bible study is different from other She Reads Truths devotionals. Each day is dedicated to a book or books of the OT. The reading from the day incorporates main scripture from each passage as well as complementary passages from the Old and New Testament. The “devotional” section of each day is background information and how the chapter reflects His story. Each day ends with throughly provoking questions to reflect on. I would recommend using this guide with a reading through the Bible in a year plan- reading the corresponding “days” after you read the whole real book. So after reading Genesis read day one.

I love to have these study books, rather a luxury because of the shipping costs, but now achievable with family in America.

The Old Testament can often seem dry and judgemental, when compared to the New, but the stories of the people within this study bring colour to the era and all point to the coming of the Messiah.

The She Reads Truth studies are always worth a read.

I really enjoyed this style of devotional! 5 days of reading, a day of prayer, and a memory verse day were things that kept me engaged in the Word. I also learned and retained a lot more about the Old Testament folks than previously studying them.

The God of the OT is the same God that has revealed himself in Jesus, who knows me intimately and in whom I trust
