Audrey Hepburn - a luminously drail will-o'-the-wisp who has enchanted and beguiled with hen wide-eyed high spirits in a whole series of delightful films - in Breakfast at Tiffany's, in The Nun's Story, Oscar- winning in Roman Holiday and changing from chrysalis to butterfly in My Fair Lady. But behind the elfin grace is the iron discipline of her training as a dancer, behind the Givenchy-gowned elegance is the hunger and danger of a childhood in Nazi-occupied Belgium and behind the insouciant on-screen radiance is a woman whose private life has been tense with anxiety and misfortune. Here is the true Audrey Hepburn - an actress who has brought a sunshine lift into millions of hearts.
Charles Higham was an author and poet. Higham was a recipient of the Prix des Créateurs of the Académie Française and the Poetry Society of London Prize.
It was about time I read a book about one of my most favorite people. I only knew bits and pieces of her story. The full portrait, as told by Charles Higham, was stunning. Audrey Hepburn was a remarkable lady.
This was rich in detail and it felt like the author knew alot about the icons of the time. From Audrey's childhood in WWII to her first marriage. Only 3 stars because I read more than half and had to return to the library, but I like the way it was written.
