Seven deaths…and now the hunted is becoming the hunter and detective Carly Sanderson is his target.
Everything seems pretty normal, for a serial killer thriller, but I have a feeling something is coming. A twist that will make the mystery more difficult to solve.
And then….Dan Alatorre threw the fly in the ointment that I had been waiting for.
I do find Tyree, an ex cop turned private eye, especially likeable. He is inquisitive and his cop instincts come in handy at every turn. He has become my favorite character. He’s a bit like Rockford with a little Magnum PI thrown in.
Something about the writing keeps this from being a 5 star read. It seems a bit choppy, but has great pacing. Needs a little something to create more tension,more suspense, though I can’t say exactly what.
Once I found who the villain was, the suspense increased as the anticipation of his exposure mounted.
We do have plenty of twists and turns and a bight red herring that I kept stumbling over. All in all, a great mystery, with plenty of chills and I’d love to hang with the characters again.

Have you ever wondered what drives a killer to murder? What goes on inside their minds at the moment when they take the life of another human being? How do they justify their actions? Step by step we accompany the killer on his voyage of murderous discovery as he undertakes his very first premeditated murder and finds that one is not enough. No, the first one has merely wet his appetite and now he has a limited ability to control his blood lust. Even if you are convinced that you are mentally and physically superior to everyone around you, it is not that easy being a killer, especially a serial killer. Your life is beset with anxiety that somehow you will give yourself away and they'll discover that its you. The need to kill also grows and grows and you find that you cannot stop yourself, even when the risk of discovery is unreasonably high. To late you find that there is no reason left.
There is a serial killer on the loose and Detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin have drawn the short straws. This is their case and the clues and evidence are thin on the ground. The killer has been careful to clean up after himself making him untraceable and this, together with his horrifying actions, has thrown the whole city into turmoil. The citizens of Seminole Heights are to scared to go out at night and tourists are giving the city a wide berth. The killer must be found and it needs to happen quickly.
In true Dan Alatorre style, however, nothing is as it seems in this novel and false clues and red herrings abound for the reader as you work your way through this clever labyrinth of a story.
The character of Carly Sanderson was particularly appealing to me. I enjoyed reading about a female in the position of lead detective and was delighted she proved to be a woman of stamina, intelligence and fortitude. Carly is certainly no shrinking violet and holds her own in a number of extremely testing and frightening circumstances.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers who enjoy fast action and a clever story line. The murder scenes are fairly graphic so readers who are sensitive to violence may find some descriptions disturbing.

this was a fun, action-packed, gory serial killer thriller. a quick warning that if you are uncomfortable with detailed descriptions of violence and murder, this is not the book for you. i enjoyed the complexity of the plot, the various twists, and the two stories that slowly came together for one tumultuous ending. i appreciated the often dry humor through the dialogue. i wish we had a little more insight into the background of the killer. double blind read and was paced like like a wild, totally-bingeable episode of a good ole crime tv show.

I loved this book, kept me on my toes, from start to finish. I read the entire book in just over a day. It follows 2 police detectives and a private investigator trying to catch a serial killer and put the puzzle pieces together. Come to find out their was actually 2 killers on the lose and 1 was a cop. One killed for the thrill and one killed for the greed and wanting the family business all to themselves. Twists and turns I didn’t see coming and some I did. James Patterson was always my favorite thriller author, Dan Altorre may just be taking that spot, with having only read 1 of his books so far, I’m hooked. With multiple POVs he wrote it in a way that was easily followed without getting lost in the timeline!

This was an enjoyable, quick read for me! It was action packed and I had a great time trying to figure out who the killer was! Some of the characters were pretty funny too. Dan Alatorre does a great job of writing from the mind of a serial killer…should we be concerned? 😂

At first, the killings seem random, just the actions of a deranged mind.
I found the descriptive powers of the author, combined with the smell of blood stomach churning as I searched for clues. I knew it would be a bit gruesome going in, but wasn’t quite prepared for the intensity of the murder scenes. The author has a very powerful imagination!
I loved the easy relationship between the two main characters, detectives Carly and Sergio. A most unusual pair, but real people, warts and all!
The casual dropping into the story half way through of a major clue as to the killer's identity almost ruined the story for me, but it was cleverly done and hard to spot.
If I have one criticism about this book, it has to be about the killer. I can normally empathise or sometimes even admire most killers. I mean, they are usually damaged in some way, driving them to murder. Try as I might, I could find no redeeming feature in this man.
Here’s hoping the sequel finds Carly and Sergio with a far more interesting antagonist...

So, Dan has made quite the name for himself on booktok lately, and everyone I know well has been reading his books. As a result I decided I should give him a chance with how up in arms everyone has been. To preface this, I DO NOT, and HAVE NOT ever read a thriller/mystery style book in my life. However, not one to shy away from new experiences I got my hands on a copy of Double Blind.
From the first NINE pages I was hooked. The story follows a couple of different perspectives, the killer, the two main detectives working the case, and a freshly recruited ex-military and law enforcement private investigator.
You start the book following the killer and what they are doing and WOW. Dan writes psychotic so well. This person has a very troubled mind and view on the world. You learn things across the book about his motivation and more than that you WANT to know they're motivation.
The detectives. From my understanding this dynamic duo spans the entirety of the series but are introduced for the first time in this book. Carly and Sergio become so loveable right from the very start. Their comradery and banter are both sweet and hilarious. You get a real feeling that they care about each other in the way they carry on between working diligently to catch the killer.
We also follow Tyree who is just starting out as a private investigator with his pseudo uncle/caregiver who is flighty but brilliant. Tyree is an old friend of a family who is the victim of the killer. He's softhearted but stands firm and you fall in love with him as a character so quickly. Following his arc in the story is but lovely and heart breaking for multiple reasons.
Overall the book shifts perspective over various chapters between this main band of characters. What is both incredible and intriguing, it also serves to keep you completely on your toes as you don't know what shift the story will take next. By the end you are left gobsmacked by what happened but it is also wrapped up nice and neat, and if you are paying close attention, the clues to the conclusion were there the whole time.
I read this book in one sitting during the day because I COULD NOT put it down. The story is engrossing and investing, the characters wiggle their way into your heart, and by the time you're half way through the book you'll be dying to know what's next. While I was not a thriller/mystery reader before, I am now, if only to read more of this saga and Dan's books on the whole. If you're looking for a complete roller coaster where you're constantly asking yourself what you really know about what's going on and evaluating and analyzing right along with the detectives, you cannot miss this book. I will suggest this to anyone at this point. It's an amazing ride, and while I wish I could read it again for the first time, there are five more books with another book being released soon. I look forward to seeing Carly and Sergio once again on their next adventure.

I read this via audiobook
I thoroughly enjoyed Double Blind. I read six sisters first so it’s nice to see the characters develop and learn their story. I did enjoy the book.
There are multiple murders going on at once and although I was able to predict where I thought it was going to go I was unsure and was waiting for the twist where I was like oh I was wrong!
Guess, what I was wrong!!!!!
If you want fast paced, development of a serial killer, while another killer is on the loose and everyone is intertwined this is for you!
I was engaged the entire time!
Loving this series on to the next!

Action packed, fast paced crime thriller.
A psychotic serial killer is on a ruthless bloody rampage and it’s up to the detectives to solve the crime. Enter a PI hired by one of the victim’s families and a whole side plot unravels.
I got a wee bit lost at one point with timelines of incidents happening and I did guess a major player.
Overall I really enjoyed the concept and the overarching concept.

A mystery thriller that had plenty of twists to keep you turning the pages.
Attention grabbing action right from the beginning. Loved the different POV's from the lead detectives, the Private Eye and the serial killer. It let me piece together all the little clues as the story unfolded.
Great audio narration also.

Definitely recommend!!! Great murder mystery and whodunit book. Just when you think you know, you don't. Kept me guessing. Carly and Sergio, the 2 main detectives are great with thier back and forth banter. The murderer is creepy and kept me turning pages.

I have this one a 3 ⭐️. I felt it was predictable, but I did enjoy the plot.
I saw the ending coming, and the other main killer was very obvious. But I did enjoy the audiobook nonetheless. I did feel I got confused by it only being one narrator and so many pov’s

Rollercoaster 🎢
This is a fast paced, mystery thriller. There were many shocking twists and turns. Just when you think it's all figured out, there is another twist. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Wow! This book is fantastic! Kept me on the edge of my seat from page one. Sergio and Carly are great, and so is Tyree. Just an amazing start to a series! I'm looking forward to more!

I kept seeing this authors books on my FYP on TikTok as well as strange videos that the author puts up soliciting praise. So I decided to read one of them to see what the reality was.

I put it in as you had to get through all the marketing blurbs to actually see what it was about. If I see “unputdownable” one more time on a book description I feel like I may scream. It’s the most over used adjective right now on thrillers and usually it’s false as in the case here.
It would have been really easy to put it down, why? Because despite what “L. Martin” said in their review of KEEPS YOU GUESSING UNTIL THE END” “Lots of twist and turns, most of which you don't see coming. And even when you do see them coming, they don't lead where you think.”, I thought it was highly predictable in many areas from the culprit to rhe “twists” etc..
It felt like one of those writing exercises where the teacher gives you an outline of all the points you want to meet in your work and you just tick them off as you write.
Formulaic! That’s the word! But on the other hand there was a lot of confusing storylines. Sometimes less is more and this book could have benefited from a good editor.
Overall it was ok. I didn’t DNF it and I did want to know what happened or rather see if I was right. I do not see what all the fuss is about on social media though. I had downloaded one other book further into the series on KU and I am not sure if I’ll read it or not but part of me wants to see if the writing gets better since this book is several years old at this point . (Which I was surprised at with the way it is advertised on TT right now).

I was not prepared for this book!
Immediately, right from the beginning, you are immersed into the world of a cold-blooded killer watching his prey. Half of the story is told in 1st person, from his point of view, so you hear his thoughts and details of each plan learning up to each murder and chase. The initial scene is violent, graphic, and like a horror movie you can't look away from. All I could think was how cold and calculating this man had to be in order to have this be the first time he killed another person.
By chapter 11 I was thinking to myself, "What is going on?" Four people were dead and this serial killer really meant business. It felt like a wild ride that I didn't know where it was doing, but I also didn't want to get off.
Later, as I started to unravel the story, and as the pieces were put into place, I was impressed with the storytelling. Some of the plot was predictable, but there were twists and turns I never saw coming. The way in which Dan Alatorre was able to craft the story was enjoyable to read, especially the chapters from the serial killer's perspective.

This was an interesting plot line for this author to take. For the first 90% of the story line, the author did a fairly decent job of creating his characters and filling in their character traits. Of the antagonist, he did a less thorough job of it, leaving more of a character hole than mystery, which I think distracted from the possibilities with this bad guy. I thought the author missed an opportunity at the end of his novel, as he seemed a bit rushed, or was unsure how to bring his book to a conclusion without dragging the story along for another 90 pages or so. The second ending to this plot line, he did better, but still it was a bit rushed. I'm not certain how many novels this author has written, but he seems fairly new at it. I'll read the next book in the series to get a more complete view of this author's writing style. I'm hoping the author improves on his next story development and depth of story and character. In television parlance, I see this story akin to a TV pilot. Things are set up for the next story. I'm hoping it is a good one.

I was hooked instantly, as the the author Dan Alatorre, started by showing the serial killers thoughts in a graphic telling of the thrill of killing others, the blood rush! As we travel with the killer seeing through his/her eyes you are drawn into the lead detectives lives!
But as you are thinking, who is the killer...another detective, private this time, arrives and is picked up by his family friends. While having a nice meal with half of his friends’ family are murdered. The private detectives starts sharing information with the police after his friends hire him to find the dad and daughter who had been murdered.
The plot thickens! The boyfriend is murdered....who is going to catch the criminal(s)? Who is the serial killer, who is the good guys and the not so good guys. Why was the wealthy entrepreneur killed, his daughter, her boyfriend and how is a drug dealer involved?

This was a solid four star thriller. There were a couple twists and a nice red herring or two thrown in. I figured out half of it but not all of it. It kept me engaged and listening eagerly to see whodunnit.
I liked most of the characters in this book. They were pretty much believable and I could understand their actions and reactions. I found one or two characters to be annoying and really enjoyed q couple of the side characters.
One of my favorite characters was the murderer. Not in the “I like this person and want him to get away with his crimes” type of way. I just really enjoyed the point of view of the killer. It made the scenes more intense and impactful. I found myself interested in what was motivating the character and also eager to see how this person would finally get caught.
I feel that anyone that enjoys murder mysteries and police procedural series will enjoy this book. I look forward to the next one in the series!

another input down able book
If you love a good cat and mouse detective serial killer book, that also has amazing character development and relationships with banter that keeps bantering. Look no further than Dan Alatorre’s Double Blind.
This book has a ton of action, it has suspense, it has you not trusting anyone. This book had me rooting for some characters and despising others. This book was so hard to put down that when I couldn’t physically read it I had the audio playing.
This is another five star for me from Dan. I absolutely love and devour his books. This is my second series by him and I was not disappointed. Run don’t walk to pick up this book immediately.
The banter between the two lead detectives is hysterical and so cute. The banter between Tyree and Big Brass had me cracking up so much. I couldn’t wait to flip the pages to figure out what they were doing next.

Double Blind
This book surprised me! I didn't think I would like it. In fact, I almost quit reading it! That is something I almost NEVER do! I'll just say that it began way too descriptive for my preferences! I don't care for graphic sex &/or violence, or profanity. The first murders were much too much for me. Thankfully, that lessened quite a bit, but I don't see the necessity in the first place.
That said, the storyline was OK, but I think it could have been done better. I figured things out way before the reveals, but that's not too unusual for me. If I haven't solved the mystery before the last few chapters, I consider a book VERY well written! Unless you don't mind a bit of predictability, or the graphic descriptions, I think you'll enjoy this book. I don't think I'll be checking out the next in the series, though. I believe this one was enough for me.
