A creative new take on an old favorite—including delightful patterns for special occasions and gifts.
The humble granny square gets a fresh new look in this collection of 3D granny square crochet patterns. Choose your favorite from one hundred different designs including flowers, animals, food and drink, and motifs, whether it’s a fragrant rose, a cherry pie, or a jellyfish. Each motif features a 3D element that is integral to the granny square design.
There are also ten bright and beautiful projects showing you how to use the squares to make special gifts for friends and family including an animal themed baby blanket, a fruity cushion, and a decorative garland, and patterns designed for Christmas, birthdays, and other occasions.
There are written patterns which weren't my favorite for the reason below, and graphs which to me makes this book invaluable. I went with a 4 because of the yarn color description/instructions. The book lists all the colors used in the Paintbox color chart at the start of the book and assigns numbers to each color. I have no idea if that correlates to their product numbers, which could change. Anyway, then in the pattern will say switch to color 5 or 14. It would be way better to say the color or like for the strawberries pattern say switch to the color for berries and then switch to the main color. Otherwise I love this collection of patterns.
Fabulous designs! So cute & many are very useful, especially since there are a couple project ideas sprinkled in (so you’re not left wondering, “What do I do with all of these granny squares now?”). The pattern instructions are clear and accompanied by diagrams if your prefer to crochet that way. Enjoy!
This is a great pattern book if you love granny squares. From foods to kitchen items to animals fish and holidays. There's a square for just about anything that a kid might like.
There are some cute granny squares in here. Several are flowers. For a lot of the 3D elements, you have to crochet separate pieces and attach them to the square. Some of the others that don't do this have some wonky shapes or don't feel very 3D (and are just basically a circle in the middle with a little something added to it). But overall, I liked the variety in the designs included. Both charted and written instructions are provided, so it all seems pretty clear. It's nice to see some various ideas for granny squares that aren't just the normal, boring ones.
This book is a lot of fun to just flip through but if you love pictorial crochet you will LOVE it! Each square is well photographed and is accompanied by a stitch diagram plus written instructions. The book is well designed and each page follows the same format. There are some projects included that use the squares but there should have been more! The only real criticism is that the text is pretty teeny! There's lots of fun stuff in here! Not my bag, but I'm sure lots of crocheters will love these squares.
Really cute concepts but the charts are so faint you can't see them. I'm a chart reader. It's easier for me than the written pattern. This book is basically useless to me except for looking at the picture and trying to figure out the stitches myself. Which involves a great deal of frogging to redo and is greatly frustrating.
I received this as a birthday present last year, and have made so many beautiful squares. This also helped me learn how to read diagram patterns, as each Square includes the pattern, as well as written instructions. I found the illustrations instructions to be well done and easy to follow. An excellent crochet book.
Great book of 3D pop up granny squares. If you are experienced at crochet which I am the instructions are very easy to follow. But there are very detailed instructions on all the different stitches at the end.
I'm not a huge fan of granny square projects, generally speaking. BUT I do love the creative crochet applique the authors of this book have designed. I'll be frankenstein-ing together some of the applique designs onto projects from other books.
Good ideas in here, some are harder to make then others. Im working my way through might take a while. Good for blankets, table cloths, scarves, purses and other flat projects.
While the designs are clever, I won’t know how they turn out as the font used is so small and printing in a light grey with yellow background doesn’t make it easy for readers.
This is a very good book for an adventurous advanced beginner or an intermediate crocheter. I haven't made anything from it though. The patterns seem well-written and there are diagrams to help.
Creative, innovative designs. I've used four so far to use up scrap yarn for granny square contributions to my crochet club's donated blanket. I have designs on using the baked good squares to yarn bomb a local bakery.
