Shuichi Shigeno (Japanese author profile: しげの秀一) is a manga artist, best known for the manga series Initial D. Shigeno has also created Bari Bari Densetsu, Dopkan, and Tunnel Nuketara Sky Blue ("First Love in Summer") all prior to the manga that would make him famous in 1995. In 1985, he received the Kodansha Manga Award in shōnen for Bari Bari Densetsu.

I used to love Initial D., the cars, and the racing this is indeed a true shonen manga.

However, I reached a point where I could live without it and I've always found the translation iffy. So this is going to the Culling.

I'm not sure if its the app or my phone but its a pain in the ass at the moment to mark the book as read and then bring up the ratings screen to mark as read. It's a shame the desktop doesn't sync well at all. Binge read up to 11. Still slow and repetitive yet I kept going.

Poor quality editing

The story is great, but this particular volume has really, really lazy typesetting and editing. Filler text can be found every couple of pages, sometimes in the middle of the frame. Notes to the nonexistent editor can also be found, describing what was and wasn't translated.

Pretty much given it two stars for the same reasons the other reviews have. Its a great story but the editing is sub-par. Missing translations and filler text throughout the volume makes this the poorest one yet

I am reviewing the 4th book in the Initial D series. This book series is about a high schooler named Tak who's dad was a legendary car drifter. He was also a tofu delivery man. Tak eventually got his license and took over his dads spot as a tofu deliverer. After Tak realized he had a natural talent drifting cars, he started to race many people. It made it easy to race people because he used his dads car, and people didn't know it was him and not his dad. This book was about him racing a very good driver named Shingo Shoji. Shingo has a car that is much faster than Tak's, it is a Honda Civic with a b16a engine. But they didn't just race, they raced with one hand duct taped to the wheel, so that they couldn't turn their wheel's all the way. My favorite part of the book by far was when Tak got mad after he hit his dad's car on purpose, and started speeding and not thinking but still managed to drive amazing. I am very into cars, and I recommend this book to anyone who is into cars. I can relate this book series to the movie Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. I love this series. -Damon

Some text missing

In about 6 pages you may find some captions reading "some text missing". However good translation and enjoyed the story.

Easily the worst volume of the series so far. From the bad editing, grammar mistakes, then we have the material like how the race ends almost immediately and then we get things like fat shaming, the generic virgin boy stereotype and we even get introduced to some female drivers but as soon as we see them they’re cat called and written badly upon debuting. Also like I said before they need to get off the Mountain, it’s a boring track since it’s been the only one. Who will win the next race? This one is a bit up in the air compared to every race we’ve had so far but are we really gonna think the MC is losing? Also what happened to the plot about the love interest being in a relationship already? I don’t think we saw her dump the guy she was with let alone find out who that guy was…

Definitivamente se nos viene LA batalla. No puedo esperar ver a Ryosuke y Takumi se enfrenten, porque sé que por fin serán dos rivales parejos y me tiene realmente emocionada (siento que esta vez Ryo va a ganar, llevando a Takumi por primera vez a sentir que debe seguir mejorando sus habilidades debido a la derrota). Por otra parte, que lindo como va evolucionando con Natsuki Mogi, pero ella no me produce confianza, siento que oculta algo y no quiero descubrirlo (a la vez sí).

This was actually funny, but all the characters were all so shallow. All of them. I don't even have a favorite character because I was annoyed with everyone. The saving grace of this was the racing stuff itself since it's interesting. It's super technical at times, but I get the drift; pun intended.🏁

It was good to get a glimpse of Ry outside of the racing scene, in the tv show this was not shown. Also Tak being a racing monster as per usual.

One thing I’m upset about is that there were missed translations which doesn’t make any sense, how can you translate a book and not translate some parts? It just says “missed translations” like what?

There's a bunch of sections with missing text. I didn't notice this in the first three books, but it seems like the translations are a bit sloppy on this one.
