For as long as Bobbi, Lucci, Diamond, and Kay Kay have been in each other's lives, they have always had one another's back. Whether they were fighting other squads during homeroom or boosting outfits for college frat parties, neither girl has ever questioned the when, what, where, or why of their actions. For them riding for each other was automatic.
When Bobbi presents her girls with a plan that would eliminate their financial burdens and have them set for life, one by one they jump on board. Never in a million years would they have imagined that this perfectly planned heist would be the very thing that put their lifelong friendships to the test.
In the beginning, everything seems to be going smoothly for the self-proclaimed Diamond Mafia but when lies are exposed, disloyalty is discovered, and trust goes out the window these four women are faced with the task of forgiving one another and moving on or allowing one act of betrayal to destroy their cliques bond forever.
I literally read this in a matter of hours. I could not put it down. I like the spin and inspiration from the movie Set It Off but with a lot of twists. Whereas, In the movie they robbed banks-in this one the girls robbed jewelry stores. At first, I was thinking it would be able to tell all the similarities from the movie but I actually forgot that it was because it was completely different—in my opinion. I am glad this author did not write this specifically like the movie! These characters had like 9 lives, though. Lol! If I had to choose, I’d say Lucci was my book bae! She was a boss. Although, Bobbi was with the main male character, I just loved Lucci! 🥰now, I do think that Kay Kay deserved a little more empathy from Bobbi and Lucci if she was honest at the beginning. The night Bobbi called the girls over to see if one of them shot up the firehouse—Kay Kay should have told them!! Ugh. This was a VERY good book; well written, full of drama, and twists! There were quite a few characters but I was able to keep up with each character. The characters were well developed. Also, Nav and Zig—love them!! This is a definite must read! Loved it.
When I first started reading this book, I realized that it was a totally different style that I was used to from Genesis Woods, but baby this book was total 🔥🔥. The suspense of finding out who the snake in the camp was, carried out until the very end. The bond between the four girlfriends were absolutely amazing and it definitely gave you the “Set it Off” vibes. The men that loved them were something else. Nat was a true boss, Stax was a weak snitch, Ant was a snake in the grass and Zig was a true romantic. I was shocked at that ending, but I’m glad that things turned out the way that they did. Congratulations Genesis, this book is the 💣!
First off this remix on a classic was a great idea. You saw where the influences came from in the movie but also it had its own story and flow. I live for a good plot twist in books and this definitely had it. I liked how the characters felt real and could be people you actually know. Makes the book relatable to real life and to the movie. When there's a story about groups of friends, there's bound to be betrayal but never would've imagined some of these situations. Favorite female character was definitely Lucci and Nav was book bae. This was a great read and I expected nothing less.
I simply could not put this book down. I would read until the words blend together. This book deserves five stars and more. Great writing skills that expressed the act of making love to the point I had to stop and read it over and take some notes. Naveen and Zy'aire are men every woman dream about. Love, betrayal, friendships and addiction was all in this book. The things people will do when their back is against the wall will make a person think before acting. Great book!!!
This remix to set it off was good. The ending came a little too soon, it left me wondering about some things. I can't say to much because I don't want to give the story away.
Yes, yes, and more yes! I was skeptical at first since the book has a similar premise to the Set it Off movie and things can get messy or missed with multiple point-of-views. However, this book was bigger and better than I could have thought. So glad I picked it up on a random trip to the library. Not only was this a pleasant reintroduction to urban fiction for me; it was also captivating and twisty with a sprinkle of romance (Zig is my new book boyfriend). Ms. Woods is now officially on my author radar for this one! Off to find more!
This was my first read from this author but definitely not my last. I love the similarities to the movie but also how she made her own with the things she changed. It had me on an emotional rollercoaster. It was so good l reread it right after. I love the surprised ending, I was not disappointed at all!!! Great job 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hated the cliffhanger with no promise of a sequel. This story was riveting friends who were more like family and the trials and tribulations they faced. Everyone found love in the end and were they wanted to be even Diamond 💎 I want to know about the reunion ... Deep Sigh 😕
This was a good read. If Set it off is your favorite movie then this is the book for you. This is a remix to the movie. With four friends trying to make it out the hood. This is definitely a book you want to add to your list of must reads!
A great listen of a friendship between Lucia, Bobbi, KayKay, and Diamond. It was refreshing to see that this one couple made it through this drama filled book! I was laughing tears to hear they made it through!!
I need more! This was easily in my top 3 out of all the 90’s remakes! I need to know who took cowboy and why?Did Marvin find out about Doc? I have questions. This is so unfair 😩. Fantastic book
The Set it off movie was wonderful buy this book here.. hunni, if the movie was anything like this book then it would be Oscar award winning... I would love to see a part 2 to this because I did not like how it and. Kay Lay deserves a second chance. Lucci already beat her behind and she was left for dead. She didn't betray her sisters the monkey on her back did. This author has a wonderful God sent gift and I am the kful I was introduced to her work
Ms. Genesis Woods you did an excellent job telling the story your way. Loved every bit of it. These women were struggling making ends meet, taking care of family and risking their life EVERYDAY SINGLE DAY in them streets. They took an even bigger risk becoming Diamond Mafia. Whew chile, I was on edge throughout the book. Hated they had to go through it all. But was happy when I got to the end.
Oh how I went into this saying “no she is not trying to mess with Set it Off” . Well Genesis is awesome and did her thing once again. I’m a true fan of her writing. She really brings you a long for the ride. Good job girlfriend in my head. Lol
The twist and turns that this book provided was mind blowing. The writer kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing and assuming who the traitor/rat was. Can’t wait to see what’s next
