TUNDRA is history's most successful self-syndicated newspaper comic strip and is seen in over 600 newspapers around the world. This hilarious 233 page full-color book contains over 400 of cartoonist, Chad Carpenter's latest, all-new comic creations. Consisting of anything animal, vegetable or mineral, but with a decidedly outdoorsy slant, this award-winning comic strip takes an offbeat view of the woodsy side of life. Find out for yourself why TUNDRA is one of the fastest-growing comic strips on the planet!
Chad Carpenter is an American cartoonist, best known for his comic panel Tundra. Carpenter launched the strip in the Anchorage Daily News in his home state of Alaska in 1991. Since then, he has self-syndicated it to over 330 newspapers, an unusually high amount for strips in self-syndication. -Wikipedia
I have no idea how I'm only the 4th person to review this comic, a lot of what's in here is pure gold!
The mix of nature and red-neck humor is spot on and genuinely has the feel that it should be read sipping hot cocoa by the fire at night. The comic is not very wordy, but lets its pictures speak for themselves. My personal favorite are the bird comic strips.
Here's an example: There's a momma bird feeding her baby birds in a typical momma bird fashion - by regurgitating the food into their mouths. Then the neighboring bird has the line: "Oh, Helen. You MUST give me the recipe."
Trust me, it's MUCH funnier in person, but you have to experience it for yourself. If anyone wants to try a taste of some Chad Carpenter, please let me know - I'm happy to lend them out!
In conclusion, read smart books but also read books that make you laugh and smile.
Though the author credits his inspiration to two different authors [Dik Brown & ?] he seems to me to be a cross between Sergio Argones & Gary Larson. I enjoy off-beat humour and this guy has it. Not quite to the level consistently of Larson but very funny... some LOL for me for sure.
