Winning isn't everything in the game of basketball, but who wants to come in second? It takes dedication and discipline to be the best, and the Shohoku High hoops team wants to be just that. They have one year left to make their captain's dream of reaching the finals come true—will they do it? Takehiko Inoue's legendary basketball manga is finally here, and the tale of a lifetime is in your hands!

He may be a pain in the butt, but Hanamichi's athletic prowess and monstrous strength have not gone unnoticed by the captain of Shohoku's judo team. Hoping to take his troupe to a national title, the judo captain is willing to go to great lengths to lure Hanamichi away from the court and get him on the sparring mat. Will out-and-out bribery convince Hanamichi that judo's the way to go, or will he stay a basketball man to the very end?

Lol, this was so good. The new power generation. Rukawa is a genius basketball player that Sakuragi began to feel threatened and insecure by his skills. The poor redhead wouldn't pass the ball to Rukawa! And the judo team tried to recruit Sakuragi because of his monstrous build and energy. It was such a hilarious volume. But finally, Akagi sees Sakuragi's determination to play basketball. We are going big!

Sakuragi has made it onto the basketball team, but is disappointed when he is assigned to do basic drills while other recruits get to play practice games. He rage quits and then is pressured to join the judo club. Will he join? Read and find out! The art is a lot of fun and the artist is really skilled at portraying serious and goofy moods even on the same page. That contrast makes this series an interesting read.

Although this volume was pretty good and quite enjoyable, I didn't feel like it was on par with the first volume of the series. But what it does, it does superbly, and that is showing the skills and determination of the major characters.

What Inoue perfectly does is characterization. Volume 2 further explores the persona of Sakuragi, validating the readers why he is the charming protagonist of the series. This volume is funny as hell and serious whenever it is supossed to.

What I also find interesting is how tbe author manages to capture facial expressions with an impressive detail. The reactions are on point and perfectly placed, giving each scene that cinematic appeal.

I am so glad to have bought this manga.

this was a pick me up I needed and DESERVED after marathoning Banana Fish from where I left it off (in September) after Shorter’s death and to the finale in the span of 24 hours. I don’t remember ever feeling so much pain after consuming a media piece before (ok maybe A Little Life).

ANYWAY! With the exception of a few mildly problematic details this was amazing. Thanks for dragging me out of the hottest part of hell and the deepest depth of depression.

This was another great volume and it gets so good with this one too and I love the comedy here, seriously some of the best ever written and then seeing the match of seniors vs juniors when one of their teachers show up and seeing Rukawa vs Akago was fun and how Sakuragi comes into it in the end lol and then the persistence of the Judo senior to get Sakuragi to join the judo team and their vs match and talking about Haruko is so fun lmao and you see the insane strength, conviction and commitment of Sakuragi and it's so fun haha! Loved the whole thing and that line in the end "I am a basketball player" will send chills down your spine and it's a testament to how good this manga is, from the art to dialogue to comedic timing and cool character moments.. perfect mixture of everything!

"Rukawa... Rukawa... eres el mejor" jajaja

I am enjoyable to read this manga. Hanamichi decided to join basketball, but the content of practice is too simple. The reason why his practice is too simple is he did not have ant knowledge of basketball and how to play it. There is a gap between ideal and reality, so he escaped from his club. However he returned to there because he did not want to give up. He met a coach whose name is Anzai, he looks like an ordinary fat man, but he is a really excellent coach. The practice game was decided, the opponent was the strong high school, Ryounan. Akagi, the captain of Shouhoku was so happy to match with it. I really wonder the result of this match.

I like how Sakuragi is really being introduced to basketball fairly slowly. Two volumes in, and he still doesn't know much of the rules and is largely confined the learning the basics. Socially, he still has plenty of work left on the fundamentals as well, but I imagine his growth will progress in all fields as the story moves on. While the tale is not especially complex so far, it is enjoyable to see how the groundwork is set with a methodically paced coming-of-age narrative.

It's not as hilarious as the first volume, still rlly enjoyable (especially sakiragi & rukawa's dynamic), which reminds me so much of naruto and sasuke in classic haha)! love the set-up of the main characters. hope the manager girl gets more "screentime" & the friendgroup omg!! interested enough to wanna see how each of the characters develops. my only 2 issues: the judo guy being a creepy stalker with several pictures of haruko (when she was younger) and saying, "she matured" meaning her body WTH and hanamichi's attitude towards chubby ppl (his friend and the coach) hmm. other than that, he is pretty likeable, biggest simp and cutest simpleton (absolutely LOVE his iconic redhair, but i always had a thing for redheads jdjdjd)

gas ‼️ — enjoyed the first one a little more but i fw the fact there was finally a game in this. the set up look’s like there’s gonna be a sick payoff next vol with a real round against a rival basketball team. first time i ever seen judo in a manga and that was fire ash 🙏

shifting between this and initial d has been so good to me mayun 😩 (no better time to be a basketball man)

Builds on the great humour of the first volume. The revolving art style changing whether the situation is serious or humorous completes the atmosphere of this wonderful series!

Fine continuation of the series. Nothing phenomenal but it added a layer to the plot, and the characters continue to grow. The main character is just so hard to root for. Ultimately, he’s a creep.

It has great here’s journey. For example, Begging to play the basketball is call to adventure. Any parts are fun. Favorite one is to meet Anzai that part is mentor or revelation. One of the mentor is Anzai. He is a man of great importance. This is the one of the shounen manga. But the people who like seinen, shoujo and josei manga will be fun and like it. Theme is friendship and effort. There are some spread and some speed line that were truly amazing. Recommend it!!

Still funny, but not as chaotic as the first volume. I kinda like Rukawa's and Sakuragi's rivalry/interactions. I'm excited for their game against Ryonan since I'll finally get to see Akira Sendoh <3
