Nobody said the Apocalypse was supposed to be pretty.
But even in a world poisoned by nuclear war, beauty can bloom. And in Cerena Lightmoon, there is a terrible, relentless beauty. If you can get past the rage in her heart.
Born of conflict, trained since childhood, she is the perfect warrior. Deadly as she is beautiful, her twin swords have carved justice and hope for humans in a world where the paranormal is now normal, and the creatures from our deepest nightmares now roam the daylight.
But now, she's been handed a mission that she's not ready for. Because unbeknownst to her, the gods of myth are just as real as the creatures they've spawned. And she's about to be sent to the front lines. She doesn't know what she's walking into, all she knows is that her two new allies are the sexiest men she's ever met, and sins she's never considered before now sound very, very enticing.
The war is coming. And in this hunt, the Huntress might find herself the prey.
Elizabeth Hartwell is the fantasy pen name for a Wall Street Journal and USA TODAY bestselling contemporary romance author, who lives between fantastical worlds.
Elizabeth started out writing paranormal romance, so it's only fitting for her to make her return to the genre with her new Guardians of The Fae series.
When she's not off battling creatures of the night you can find her writing about her adventures, or arguing with her evil step-mother.
Elizabeth writes about love and all things crazy. Vampires, werewolves, witches, the undead--you name it!
She warmly welcomes you into the worlds she inhabits, but beware, they're not for the faint of heart!
Its all about sex. Cerena is hard headed, volatile and pretty much woe is me regarding her past. It might just be that I’ve been reading too many bully romances but emotion wise I got nothing from her.
The guys Lance, Tym and Brandon are two cases insta-lust and one case insta-lust denial.
The story itself is based after a nuclear war so pretty much feels like futuristic medieval. I did like the story involving gods. The fight scenes are pretty good, with each of the group holding its own.
Safe sex didn’t survive the war, which is probably the main turn off for me on this one. Spears, gaping holes and delicious cream are just a few of the words used
I did like the multiple POVs. Lance was my favourite out of the guys. Unsure if I would read the second one.
I like to think of myself as pretty open-minded, I mean, I do LOVE the RH genre, but I've always had two things that have always been lip curling, hard passes for me: twitching junk and panty sniffing. The first mention of a penis twitch or a panty whiff, and I am totally done. BUT this book--lol, this fucking book--made me realize that I have a third hell-to-the-no, lip curling exploit that I cannot stomach, and that is ORAL FUCKING SEX WITH A DIRTY ASS VAGINA!! Fucking no! Just, no. Fucking gross.
If the MC had not mentioned how funky her vag must be before she decided to grind it into homeboy's face, I probably wouldn't have thought about it, BUT, since she did mention it, I couldn't stop thinking about it, and it completely grossed me out. I mean, she HAD been traveling for days without a bath, and she had been all sweaty and nasty, soooooo...the thought of her then smashing that shit all over someone's face...well...just no.
Now, don't get me wrong. If that's your thing, then good for you. I'm not judging. I'm just here to tell you that it's NOT a thing for me. If I'm going to have to sit here and read about her grinding her dirty and smelly ass vagina onto anything, then I'm going to need it to be a fucking vat of fucking water and a bar of soap.
This book surprised me. At first I wasn't sure what was going on but I was pleasantly surprised.
I had gotten this book a while back and forgotten all about it, when I picked it backup I didn't bother to read the blurb to see what's it about. Starting it was nice, I could already tell I was going to enjoy it. Then came the shock. Imagine you are reading a cook book where the chef is working with her sous chefs and all of a sudden they are having a wild orgy. That how this book went.
A couple of pages in I had already learned that the huntress can't have sex with non 100% pure human because of the purity thing that have going on in Solace. So I wasn't expecting sex of any kind whatsoever. Imagine my shock when she had sex with all three paranormals. I was shook. I liked it but I was still shook. I'm definitely reading the next book.
Huntress did not provide anything that was ground breaking material, but it was entertaining. The sex and dialogue surrounding sex was absurd......and because of this it detracted from the story itself. What did make the story was the ferocity of the fighting, the depth of the subplots (which isn't understood until almost the end of the book), and some of the imagery (the scene w/ the statue). Terrific battle sequences!
Huntress is a solid 3 stars read for me (and that is a good rating). I have book two downloaded.....so.....Good reading my friends ♡
An apocalyptic mythology. 3 star rating. The world building & over all story arc kept my interest. The RH lacked chemistry. The characters as a whole felt superficial & entirely forgettable. The book wasn't badly written or edited but it was an average read.
I did not realize when I started this that it was set in a distant future where the world had been FURBAR and after a nuclear winter the survivors struggled to form new societies that incorporated muties, and other non human entities because the Gods were once again active... well, sort of.
Our core group are snarky, arrogant, tough and don’t mind getting down and dirty. There is a douche called Crassus, whom I detested, and a secret mission plus the usual backstabbing, betrayal, lies and godly machinations afoot.
My only real gripe was that I found it a bit confusing as to why some of the current colloquiums were still being bandied around (at least a few hundred years in the future) and yet they had no idea what a bra was. Anyway, it ended on an interesting note. May pick up the next book at some stage.
Cerena is one of the few female characters I've read who doesn't blink twice about having to kill something. She's willing, able, and doesn't split hairs about it. I really liked reading this one and the story was interesting for the most part. The setting is also cool -- futuristic dystopian, but fantasy as well because the gods are involved in the survival of the human race. Although, considering her family and where she came from, I don't understand fully one of the bigger reveals. Unfortunately, I'm not totally sold on the romance here. Everything around the romance happens super abruptly and seemingly out of nowhere.
Humans nearly destroyed the planet. With some restrictions, the younger Gods have been doing what the can to save Earth. Cerena Light moon is the Huntress. She is given a mission and isn't happy to learn she will be part of a team, Cerena doesn't work, or play for that matter, well with others. Lance and Tymont have been hired to escort onf of Solace's top hunters to the city of Bane, a city with a large population of werewolves and vampires. Ceren will learn about the gods who have been roaming the Scorched Earth since it was almost destroyed by humans and that they are responsible for the creation of many of the paranormal species now living among the humans that survived.
Their mission is to save Brandon, just one of many of the demigods that now live among the worlds population. Brandon is wanted by the god Bane. Bane wants to use Brandon to be able to return to earth permanently, and of course, rule the world. While they come from very different backgrounds, these characters will become a team that will take on the gods. Sexy, action packed, a variety of paranormal creatures, murder, betrayal, unexpected twists, and even some humor, make this a fantastic read. I loved this book!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Bad just bad. The protagonist thinks she's badass. Guyz like her bla bla there's not courting if you get me there was a lack of what makes the girl interesting.
I wont like there was potential. We were given an idea of a world but there was a lack of world building so we just try to put 2 and 2 together. Protagonist is bad ass but we don't even see much of the huntress and the action etc.
The guys are OK but not interesting. I literally tried soo hard to like this book because the cover looked good and the summary was good too. Thease 2 aspects reminds me of throne of glass but she is no Aelin. Even if her name is serena ... get it Celena and serena.
Hmm.. what can i say? This series definitely has a lot of potential but the thing is it didn't really hold my attention for too long. Everything seemed so rushed and unreal. You know how when you read a book and feel as if that you are the main character, and you envision yourself doing and feeling whatever it is that main character is doin? This book doesn't do that to me. Again, it does have a lot of potential cause the premise is good, but the character building just wasn't there for me.
Absolutely an amazing read that I finished in one day. I love the characters especially Lance, Tym and Cerena. Brandon I liked but at first he was annoying but he will grow on you. This story was very interesting and I can’t wait too read what will happen next.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This a story of cerena a huntress on a mission with lance a demi God grandson to the loki trickster and tymod a demi God grandson to thor to take brandon is the 7 th son to bane the darkness and death God .from the werewolves. Awesome story
I knew nothing about this series before going into it but man I was pleasantly impressed with it!
It takes place in a post apocalyptic era with human hunters that lived in fallout shelters for the first hundred years by the most genetically determined humans to help repopulate Earth.
Unfortunately when they came top side they quickly realized the ones that survived after the nuclear war were not just mutant humans but things out of fantasy (werewolves, vampires, zombies, fairies and others)
What the hunters were lead to believe about where these creatures came from turns out to be a lie. What they use to know as Greek Gods from mythology are actually real and the puppeteers behind almost everything especially the new species on earth.
Our female protagonist is 19 a little young but it seems the hunters grow up fast especially after her parents were both killed when she was little by a pack of werewolves. One of the “elders” takes her under his care but he’s only around for 4 years at a time well the elders take turns running things in their off time they are put in a cryogenic sleep.
She’s also been told she needs to marry one of her parents friends a man who’s 45 years old, yuck and he was her “first” and that was a few years ago I can only imagine how young she was at the time 🤢 but we find out more about this creep at the end of this book.
She was sent out on a mission with two Demi gods (she thought they were joking but they were telling her the truth) they goes on some adventures and there’s some great spice. They find out their mission was to rescue another guy who has a gods blood in him and they return him to her home only to have her world flip upside down.
The four of them make a great team & I can wait to see what they do next!
The cover made me want to read it, it looks so awesome. The reviews on the other hand.... made me somewhat hesitant about trying it, but in the end, I thought oh well, let's try it out anyway.
And I'm mighty glad I did since this was a really cool book, and I liked the characters. Cerena is one badass female and the fact that Loki and Thor's grandsons are featured made it so much more awesome.
Brandon is somewhat of a wildcard in the fact that I'm not so sure what to think about him, at first he was an obnoxious a**hole but at the end, I liked him better although I did not really see that much change/growth in his character.
This book starts with a somewhat jarring sexual start that I didn't expect and uses some strange words in the sex scenes throughout the story which makes the sex scenes a little on the cringeworthy side, coupled with some meh meh phrasing of dirty talk.
This distracted somewhat from the scenes themselves and in one case made me have to put the book down and giggle laugh for a couple of seconds but it's nowhere near as terrible as some other's I've read.
The plot itself is pretty cool and I thought it was an interesting take on post-apocalyptic life while still heavily leaning towards the fantasy side, which usually doesn't really get thrown together that often so that part was refreshing.
Book 1 in this new series . It’s a reverse harem , book 1 has lots of action , deceit and takes place in the future after the world is destroyed. The author Elizabeth wrote a story full of action . She combined Greek Mythology and Viking mythology. The heroine is Cerena , the huntress . Cerena was lied to all her life . About how the world ended , and how humans survived. She was also lied about the gods and how the creatures of the night was born .
Heather Costa and Tor Thom performance was fantastic. They both brought the characters to life
This book had great promise (kick ass heroine, gods/demigods, superhumans, a dangerous mission and a developing reverse harem). But, it was all ruined by mediocre writing, a vague storyline, lack of character development/ chemistry and sex scenes so over-the-top cheesy all that's missing are the pornstaches, pool boys and bowchikawowow musical score.
There are a few inconsistencies in this dystopia that annoyed me to the point of thinking about it when not reading it... But at least I was thinking of the book. It's been hard lately to keep my interest.
Definitely a xxx adult book. I find this book interesting. I like the characters. There was the twist I enjoyed and now I’m more curious about the rest of the storyline.
The book isn't bad it's an alright read. Personally I don't care for the rest of the series but I think if this is your genre you could defo get into it.
I readily enjoyed this new start to this series!! I have been waiting for it to be complete till I started and! And it was worth the wait off to read book 2
Pros are that it was okay enough to power through. Cons are that it felt like an amateur male author wrote the smut, had horrible dialog and the fighting scenes couldn't carry the story either.
2.5 ⭐ I enjoyed the writing and Celena's character along with her interactions with the three guys but everything related to the RH and "action" between them was awful and felt totally out of place.
