The Heirs #3

Temptation

Rate this book
Jared ‘Red’ Kang doesn’t believe in marriage. Everything he’s seen tells him that that institution is a one-way ticket to Misery Island, and he’s doing everything he can to avoid getting trapped into it. But that doesn’t mean that he’s immune to temptation.

And that’s just what Trinity is – Temptation!

The second Red meets her, sparks fly and their chemistry is off the charts. Every time she smiles at him, it takes his breath away. He’s a hot-blooded man and she’s the fire that makes him melt. But playing with fire can cause serious burns. Before he knows it, something that was supposed to be just a no-strings attached one-night stand turns into a three-month stand.

Then suddenly, with no warning, she breaks it off.

Red should let her disappear, but he can’t. He’s already addicted to her brand of temptation. He wants her again and he’s ready to tear the city apart to find her. But getting what you wish for isn’t always a good thing because when he finds Trinity, he realizes that everything she’s ever told him about herself was a lie. Worse, she has a little surprise for him.

Books. Books. Books.

I love looking at them, smelling them, reading them, carrying them, writing them.

I have an addiction. Someone help me.

I'll read anything from historical romance to fast action thrillers, gritty urban to fantasy.

When it comes to writing, I'm more of a romance gal. Expect admirable heroines, swoony gentlemen and some r-rated fun.

The hero has said some stupid stuff at the heat of the moment. He tried his best to push for abortion. Signed away his rights. But at the end of the day, he grew on me.

He worked things out by himself. And I don’t think it was because the h gave up on him. I think the outcome would have been exactly the same if h demanded money and marriage. Yes, that’d have given him some excuse to be a jerk to her for a while, but he’d have gotten over it.

He was just dysfunctioned. His family was horrible. He never learned the meaning of family or responsibilities. Yes, he takes care of his mum and dad, loves them even, but all he ever had were crazy bitchy pshychotic mother, quite possibly an adulterer, and adulterous father who openly hates and disrespect the mother and doesn’t think twice to show off his mistress, and dysfunctional siblings. Who always asks for things from him, affection, support or just a venting outlet never giving anything in return. So yes, it took him a while to understand everything. But when he did, he was humbled. Yes, he did show up over and over at the h’s place and forced his way in.but never with arrogance. He was not above begging. He went to h with the uncertainty of a small boy. Reluctant to accept her hand in relationship, but unable to hide the genuine eagerness. This reminded me of scenarios where kids first go to their adopted/foster parents. They are reluctant to trust, but unable to look away from the offer of support. He went back over and over KNOWING he has no right anymore and the h has every right to deny any part of her or baby’s life. But he went back anyway.

No, I did not like the h’s mum. Even though it’d appear that she had all their best interests in heart, I still couldn’t warm up to her. She should’ve kicked the H’s ass. Though I understand why she didn’t. She as a mother recognised the lost little boy in H, who’s refusing to accept the offer of friendship, but secretly pinning for it as he never had that before. She understood the H better than the h did. She recognised the H’s need for encouragement to be the part of baby’s and h’s life.

I was glad that the h didn’t “punish” the H. He signed away his right yet kept coming back to take care of h without any expectation was reward enough for h and punishment enough for H.

I think she handled everything correctly. She didn’t play hard to get if you ask me, she just waited for the H to figure out what HE wants by himself without adding the burden of her affection.

I hated H,s family, specially his mother, with a passion.

Triggers: H was massive manwhore before meeting h, he went without for couple of moths during their separation and that’s apparently the longest he went without sex. H’s mum slut-shamed the h (though h had inner monologues about how the H was a way bigger slur in her mind, so may be we can get past that),
Not my personal trigger, but for others: unprotected sex, H made h take morning after pill, surprise/seekerit baby, thoughts and discussions of abortion, addiction (h’s sister), disability (h’s father), infidelity (H’s parents).

Pretty good story! I liked that it was an interracial romance between an Asian man and a Black woman, and that it explored the culture differences between them. They meet and agree to have no-strings hookups due to each of their own issues, and it kind of evolves from there.

Slight spoilers

I love surprise baby stories where the couple have to work backward to fall in love in a way, especially when the hero doesn't know what to do with himself so he just keeps coming back, trying to work it out. I also kind of appreciated the point that was made between the heroines first reaction to finding out she was pregnant and judging the hero for having the same first reaction, that they both had negative first reactions and why was she the only one allowed to do it? It was an interesting take that doesn't normally get written. I typically like heroines to have the moral high ground, but in this case it was a good point. All in all I really enjoyed the book, it had humor and more depth than I expected. I loved the heroines mom!

Safety Info:
Neither are virgins
No OW/OM drama
He was a manwhore in his past, but once he meets heroine its only her even in some separations

Not sure how I feel about this book

I don’t know but this book rubbed me the wrong way. It’s almost like the author went out of her way to make the heroine independent and stubborn to the point of stupidity. Trinity’s attitude towards raising a child on her own when the father is literally rich is too similar to society’s way of making black women assume they have to care for their child on their own while child support is just a given for everyone else. Her mother seemed like the only smart one in the book. Jared was an idiot who really thought just because a few people in his life had unhappy marriages he would be doomed to repeat. Add to the fact that Trinity just laid down and accepted everything she was dealt frustrated me. Maybe it was me but they irked me to the point that I wasn’t even buying their supposed romance. As a black woman who previously was a single mother I saw too much of the ignorance that makes being a single mother so hard play out in Trinity’s head and it wasn’t refreshing or romantic.
Besides that I really like this author so I’m not turned off but this book just wasn’t for me.

Another Hit!!!

I'm very glad to see the different spin on this book. It was a welcome reverse of what you usually see men doing , the heroine did in this book. Looking forward to Logan's story

Lovers to enemies to lovers again. 3.5 stars.

Red was flawed in his concept of love and relationships. He had some self-evaluation to do.

Trinity was a pain. Yes, Red was an ass after receiving shocking news, but she kept punishing him when it was obvious that he was trying to make amends. I was annoyed and believe that her behavior was unrealistic.

First off; I need say this book kinda blew my expectation. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the story because Red didn’t seem that interesting in the previous book. It was also the first time I read a book with an Asian man and black woman, so I wasn’t sure how it influence the plot. And I really loved it. Red is the typical male characters I love; the type that are afraid to love until they meet the right one. I thought both trinity and red journey individually and as a couple was great. I love longing and the angst they had for each other. Their reunion felt right. It was just great. It put me through a rollercoaster.

Temptation to Love

I enjoyed the characters. Trinity's feisty independent spirit and the storyline made this book a good read. I like how the story navigated Red's attitude on relationships. Red and Trinity are likable with their differences and similarities. Read this book to delve into this entertaining story.

Red Trinity for the win!

This is my favourite installment in the series thus far. These two characters' love story was like Pretty Woman meets Fools Rush In. I laughed, I sympathized, and I cried, "No she didn't!" Must read for those who believe love don't cost a thing, changes everything and moves mountains. #second chances 😍

I LOVE LINDA VERJI. You know how sometimes you find an author that just does it for you? Pacing, story lines that do what you think story lines should do, characters you can love and hate and enjoy, writing that doesn't irritate you or pull you out of the story... You get the drift. That's Linda Verji for me. I loved this book I read it till 4am, I couldn't put it down!

Loved loved loved

Both characters were loveable. Loved Trinity's family. Not so much Red's family, though I find their family dynamic strange. Bianca thought irresponsible and spoilt was a wonderful friend. All in all the author did an excellent job with a great cast of characters.

❤️❤️❤️

I enjoyed the story even though her friend nearly lost her a good man through lying. I think the story is enough as it is, once the includes the mother in law in the next proposed book, that will ruin the essence of their romance

Fun read

I liked how the story progressed naturally without any artificial drama. Red initial reaction was clear cut but as Brenda pointed out, no so different to her. Because of the lies she said he was naturally suspicious and as a rich person just dealt with situations differently (with a contract and an NDA). He redeemed himself along the way, almost against his will and it was fun to read. Trinity was smart, kind and loyal which are great qualities and although she didn’t turn him away, she protected herself. A completely natural reaction even if at times I wanted to say come on can’t you see he is genuine. It was hilarious how she kept saying “you’re joking right?”. I liked how they didn’t rush into anything and took the time to work it out and build a solid relationship. Trinity ‘s mother Brenda was great. She really helped this relationship along without being manipulative. She probably saved them a lot of unnecessary aggravation. Red’s family was hilarious if somewhat messy. It was nice to see the guys appear again even though I wished their interactions weren’t so fleeting.

Not your typical

From start to finish, this was not your typical romance novel. Outside of the heroine's stubbornness in seeing the hero's change of heart, this was realistic from beginning to end. Even the author's way of the family's reaction to the heroine was plausible. I definitely hope for a follow-up.

Loved It

I am in live with this series. With each book, I love each friend even more. I can say that this is probably my favorite of the series so far because of Red and how hopelessly in love that he fell. If Linda Verji was to write a continuation of Red and Trinity, I would definitely read it.

Another one bites the dust!!

I am loving this series. The Heirs are a bunch that I'd like to know more about. I really liked Jared and Trinity's dynamic, the slow coming together. Loved both Mother's and I hope Linda will dive into the relationship between Jared's mom and Trinity especially the melding of cultures. Sooo looking forward to Logan's and Stormie!!

I love 💘 it!

Linda you have outdone yourself. A one-night stand can lead to something else where individuals can catch feelings. Two people who didn't want a relationship in the end don't want to part from each other. I enjoyed their growth as a couple 💑. The epilogue was icing on the cake 🎂.

Very emotional. You feel positive when the characters do, and negative when the characters do. Love storylines like these.
