so SO good!! highlights all over the place & pages covered in annotations, def. recommend this one for sure! rev. donna barrett created a practical & personal guide to prayer, it was an easy read because it didn’t feel theologically over my head or impersonal. i found ways i can improve my prayer life & create a better relationship with God. (donna barrett also came and spoke at my church during AG prayer week—what an incredible person!!)
Donna Barrett does a wonderful job of encouraging believers and Christian leaders to get back to prayer. Prayer is communicating with Almighty God. Praying publicly can be intimidating. Leading out in prayer can induce fear. This books demonstrates how you can help others to join you in prayer. Leveling the Praying Field is just that—putting us all in a position to pray to God and then see Him answer. Donna has filled this book with great illustrations from her own experience in helping others to pray. Her style of writing is engaging. This is a great book for spiritual leaders, parents, and anyone who might be in a position of influence.
This book is for you if you're new to the act of praying and talking to God OR if you're mentoring someone new to the act of prayer and talking to God.
It could be a great intro to prayer for teens as well. It reads (in my opinion) like it was written for youth but the topics are more adult-like (prayer in context of various work settings, outreach, community projects and support, etc.).
Lots of practical takeaways. Not a ton of Scripture but enough to introduce readers to the basics of what the Bible says about prayer.
It wasn't jaw dropping incredible, but it was practical and I definitely see how it could meet the needs and curiosity of those new to ministry or new to Christianity.
Donna came to speak at our district council and this book was provided. I enjoyed many aspects of the book, and it felt like a conversation she would have with someone if they were sitting across from her. It’s not a long or deep book, feeling more like a primer on prayer. Throughout the book, there were a lots of sections directly to pastors, where Donna shared her experiences in bringing prayer into the church and city where she served. It seems her goal is to de-mystify prayer for those who feel like prayer is too lofty for the average person to be “good at”. As others have reviewed, it is a simple book, but it is a good book.
If you are just starting or want to learn the basics of prayer this book is for you. This book would be great for Christians just starting their prayer journey because its very basic. That's the only reason why I have it 2 stars. For me personally it was to basic when I am looking for something deeper.
I did not like this book and couldn't finish reading it. I thought the advice here was superficial and unnecessary. To me it seemed to make prayer something you could get better at with practice.
