Fast moving Bullet Book set in Boston MA. Great insight into the career of comics and a very clever murder mystery. The main character has a well developed background for his needs to solve the crime. Although it is a "Quick Read" by design, it is complicated and clever. The author has had some of the experiences and the truthiness shows. I recommend this book.

Bullet books promise a good story in a short time and they deliver. I raced around Boston with Beau and learned a lot about the gullibility of the public and myself. A few hours well spent.

Exactly what was promised: a speed read, and a thrilling time following a falsely-accused comic working to clear his name.

Killer Set: Drop the Mic (Bullet Books Speed Reads Book 1)

When Boston comedy club owner Lenny tells comics who play his club that he’ll be late paying them – again – he is shot dead. Comic Beau Maxwell is accused of the crime. Beau knows who killed Lenny, but with his prints on the gun, he is arrested, charged, and transported to Suffolk County Jail. Using his considerable wit for more than performing stand-up, he escapes and skirts through Boston searching for evidence to nab the real killers with BPD Detective Bookton hot on his trail. In this fast-paced thriller, Bill Rogers and Manning Wolfe present a smart, sympathetic man-on-the-run. Don’t miss Bullet Book 1, first in this speed read, not-to-miss series.

I usually enjoy short stories or quick read books. I was intrigued by this series and how this book was fit for speed reading. By browsing hoopla for some mystery books I came across Bullet Books.

I usually read slowly as I take in the story, but I tend to speed read when I end up loving a book. Listening to the audio book for speed reads by bullet books was a good kind of different.
Bill Rodgers was a great Narrator for the book too.

When Beau Maxwell who is a standup comedian finds himself in some serious trouble with the police, does he run or does he wait for the lawyer to help him out.
This book is very well written, very suspenseful and has some very exciting twists and turns.

Because I thoroughly enjoy the relatable characters, plot, action and settings in the stories/books, also because the author is a lawyer, there a legal twist involved , this one reminded me of the hunt for the Boston Marathon killers!

The Bullet Books Speed Reads format is new to me. I usually look for the longest books so I can get more for my Audible credit, but I was motivated to check out this author.

A small-time comedian with a boxing hobby is wrongly accused of murder. We follow the story from the suspect’s point of view, instead of the detective’s perspective. Beau (Max) Maxwell turns out to be a pretty clever “criminal”, surrounded by some not-so-bright, but well-meaning friends. Lacking confidence in both the detective and his court-appointed public defender, Max conducts his own investigation and defense while a fugitive.

“Beau Max” is so likable and he’s very comfortable with his surroundings as he navigates Boston’s night life. His honestly and good nature is refreshing. l thought it was very smart and surprising that he decided to go to an Adult novelty store to solve the problem of getting out of his handcuffs. His disguises were simple and obvious until he finally makes it to a homeless shelter where he gets a free hot shower, a meal, some clean clothes, and a place to sleep without too many questions. A homeless person (rather than as a customer without a phone, or wallet) is practically invisible to people who work for tips and who are very sensitive to appearances.

I enjoyed the storyline. Despite the subject matter and setting, I might also recommend this book as appropriate to the YA audience, because of its clean humor and the fast pace. The accused was so badly served by the detective and the lawyer assigned to his case that normally I would have been turned off, because these days I am very sensitive to that, but it seemed to work well for this book :-).
