One month, I fell for him. Two, I was a goner. Three, I was a daydreamer. But by the fourth, it was a nightmare. Everything came in beats. Beat one—fantasy. Beat two—admission. Beat three—love. But it’s the fourth beat that completely ruined me. Beat. Beat. Beat. With a shattered heart. He was my nightmare.
USA Today Best Selling Author T.L. Smith loves to write her characters with flaws so beautiful and dark that you can’t turn away from. Her books have been translated into several languages. If you don’t find her in her home town of Queensland, Australia you can usually find her travelling around the world to sitting on a beach in Bali, to exploring Alcatraz in San Francisco or walking the streets of New York.
God I tried to like this one, I really did!! BUT the hero (Gunner) just sent shivers down my spine, I didn't like him one bit and found myself speed reading over his parts 🙈there's alpha males and then there's assholes and sadly to say he just fell under the asshole category.
So now onto Everly she was not love drunk but blind in love, she was a wallflower, blind to everything Gunner. More than once I really wanted to bitch slap her.. Yet again I'm sorry but this one just wasn't for me, though I have LOVED others by this author previously to this. AND many before me loved this one.
This book gives me flashbacks of a couple of years back where almost everyone was writing an erotic novel where dark romance plus bdsm plus female heroines who just plain annoy me was ‘the thing’.
I’ll be honest and say that I’m still not sure about this book. Gunner is just …Nope. I’ve read my fair share of hero who are assholes but they somehow have a redeemable quality but Gunner on the other hand is just plain old mean, cruel and a giant douche. Everly needs a backbone.
The storyline was like a yoyo where one second I’m starting to get invested then the next second I am completely wondering why I’m even bothering to continue. This goes for a while until the book ends on a major cliffhanger that has me utterly intrigued.
Overall, Love Drunk wasn’t my cup of tea. It is so sad because I had such high expectations about this book
Sometimes i read too many well written books in a row and forget that beautifully lyrical writing is actually a gift not every author has. Don't worry this was an effective reminder. Honestly, serves me right for blindly trusting my Instagram 'for you' page.
Words fail me right now because GUNNER! Smith explained this man so explicitly that I felt his presence as I devoured every word of this story! I felt as consumed as Everly! He drank in her heart and soul as if she was his life line and she let him happily take every last drop till it was too late! Everly’s life wasn’t hers to control and she found that out in the worst way! She was a pawn in a game she knew nothing about! Even those she thought had her back left her drowning and before she could figure it all out she was dragged down and my god I need book 2!
Cliffys can be frustrating! I know most don’t like them but you can’t miss this because the web that is Gunner and Everly is worth getting caught in! I don’t want out I just want more! This book deserves all the stars! Definitely one of my favorite TL Smith books!
Hate books where the heroine is so weak willed for the the Hero. Also, really started to hate Gunner. I will be reading the second when it comes out but only because I have to finish up this story no matter how aggravated cliffhangers make me.
I’m hoping with the second book Gunner takes it down a notch. Also, he seriously better not have sex with anyone other than the heroine. Better not even think it. Hopefully there will be some more of his POV too. It got boring just reading her side.
Have you ever been so Drunk In Love that you loose all sense of self? That feeling of drowning in love so much that you’re so captivated by someone that is not necessarily all that good for you? It’s that feeling of euphoria, that feeling that makes you all tingly inside. It’s the goosebumps you feel when you see someone you feel so intently for, someone who was near perfect.....until they weren’t. Only then, you’re so Love Drunk that you fail to listen to your head and fall deeper into your heart.
This is how Love Drunk made me feel.... Im always blown away at how T.L. Smith’s latest words can top the previous ones but this book, this book gave me a multitude of FEELINGS. I’ve never been rooting for a guy so much that I also wanted to punch him in the face. Gunner is an enigma, a dark yet delicious one. I wanted to gain access inside his head to see what he was thinking, what was going through his mind. I’m going to say we are so not finished with his story, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m still in some small ounce of my soul banking on the fact he’s severely misunderstood. As much as I loved him I both hated him as well.
Everly was a soul in pursuit of love, not a perfect love but a consuming one. What she got was so much more consuming than she ever could have expected. When you try to figure out someone that’s not used to being challenged or questioned you may just get more than you bargained for! I’m dying to find out more backstory on these two leads. I know Hate Sober will absolutely be the perfect final piece in this Duet. I’m ready for more.
I thoroughly enjoyed being captivated by these two leads throughout this book. I love a book that keeps me second guessing, a book you cannot put down because you need to know more. If you love Angst then this is the perfect next read for you.
Step into the world of darkness that T.L. Smith has created. This is Gunner’s and Everly’s story.
Are you ready to get drunk on love?
From an encounter at a club, fast forwarded into something so much more. They say it takes 10 days to gain an obsession, it took Everly one month to fall in love.
Gunner isn’t just your ordinary man, he is dark, mysterious and hides behind those dark smouldering eyes. From just one look at him, you know he has a story and a past to tell.
Gunner is the type of man you will have a love/ hate relationship with.
Everly is a beautiful woman who can’t wait to find a husband and fall in love. Turns out she meets a man, falls in love with a man she doesn’t quite know fully. This man isn’t all who he says he is.
But by the time Everly realises it’s too late.
This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions and turns of events. Just when you thought you knew where this book was heading, the author threw a curve ball. I guarantee the moment you start this book, you will be so intrigued in what’s going on, you don’t want to move away from it.
Love Drunk is a perfect read of angst, darkness, and with an edge combined that will leave you reeling. It’s alluring, seductive, and addictive. You won’t get enough of Gunners and Everlys story.
"I love this man. I'm love drunk on him, and I'm afraid I will never get sober."
I didn't know what to expect when diving into this book. However, I've learned better never to expect anything form TL Smith as she will surprise you and succeed your expectations anyway. Love Drunk is a story about lust, attraction, chemistry, sparks and about secrets, lies and all the things that might be able to destroy you.
""You look like heaven. But I want to sin.""
What I loved most about this book is that all the things mentioned above are played so well. You simply can't help yourself being sucked into the story and drawn to the characters. Even though at the end Gunner did some inexcusable things, Love Drunk is not the darkest book by TL Smith.
But don't make the mistake thinking, you could end this book and come up with not being drunk on it.
"My husband is a man you never want to meet. A man like him will destroy you. And the sick part? You'r going to like every single minute of it."
Obsessive Love He’s the wolf and she’s his prey. A dark and dirty love story with a man that dominates and takes possession and woman who is reluctant to embrace her desire for the depraved.
They met in a bar. They couldn’t contain their attraction. Lust turned to love. Love became obsession. Obsession morphed to ownership. Love can turn toxic.
He had secrets. He hid part of himself. He made her promise forever before he showed all of himself.
She’s bound to him with a vow of forever. There is no out in their world. He’ll do anything to keep her. She’s battling between her own need for him and losing herself.
Is love enough?
I definitely was captivated by this story. I questioned their relationship as it developed. Was it good or bad? He was an enigma that drew you in like a moth to a flame. She was an independent woman who became consumed. Their chemistry was INTENSE. But, everyone reaches a limit for what they are willing to sacrifice.
I want more! I have no idea what’s next. I am totally torn with what I want to happen. I loved him. I hated him. I need book two!
Talk about intense. Although I am not surprised at all. This book was riveting, and I cannot wait to see what happens in the second half. The feelings just course through this book and play with you. The characters and world is so real, as in most if not all people have fallen in love with someone they know they shouldn't. Been there done that, got the t-shirt. This was a deep, emotional smoking hot book, and I cannot believe I devoured it in a few hours.
WHAT. THE. F.?!? This book is horrible!!! How in the world are there so many 4 & 5 star ratings?? Did those people only read the first and last chapters before rating?? Or are they just fake reviews? Because if these folks had actually read the whole book, I can't fathom how any sane fan of romance novels could rate this book as 4 stars, let alone 5! We all know 4 means "really liked it" and 5 means "it was amazing," right?? If so, there are some sick and twisted readers out there...
I mean, the insta-love and continuity/consistency issues (which btw, really shouldn't exist given how short the book is--it shouldn't have been that hard to do a couple read-throughs before publishing to make sure everything was accurate) alone make it a tough book to take, but overall it's just a ridiculously offensive story!
Does the author realize that marital rape is a thing and that's what she's writing about like it's nothing??? Gunner is NOT a sexy dominant. He's a flatout sadistic rapist with major control issues! Don't dominants usually make sure their subs know they're in a BDSM relationship? Don't they create safewords and ease them into that world, especially when they're new to it, making sure they agree to what's being done to them??? If a BDSM relationship is what the author was trying to portray, she failed miserably. All she created was an incredibly abusive relationship that a naive h was sucked into and now seems to have little hope to get out of, at least not with her family still intact. Having Everly feel guilty about liking the sex when she really hates how violent he is and is constantly battling with herself for still loving him despite how much he's hurting her is all the evidence you need that she's not a willing participant in his twisted sexcapades!! That's like classic battered spouse syndrome, isn't it?!? And all this is happening during the freaking honeymoon? All told, they've only known each other for 3-4 months, which is a fairly short amount of time for Gunner's spastic crazy behavior to fully mature. Poor Everly's knocked for a loop because it's not until her wedding day that she finds out she's now stuck in a confounding marriage because she feels beholden to family/cultural traditions! And seriously? Good lord, if there had a been disclaimer in the synopsis that this book dealt with these topics, I never would have picked it up.
It's bad enough that the writing style is uncomfortable and rudimentary, but the dialogue between characters is awkward and unnatural making the flow difficult and stilted. Plus, both Everly and Gunner are annoying, hypocritical, and inconsistent characters that have few redeeming qualities. The storyline gets confusing at times, and I just don't think there's anything to like about this book.
And this is a complete aside, but are Thorne and Reid really Greek last names? Because that was weird too. There were so many random little things in this book that constantly threw me off (like last names that don't make sense) that it was a struggle to make it to the end. Luckily the book was on the shorter side, otherwise I probably would have DNFed.
I skimmed through some reviews of the 2nd book, and despite it seeming like the 2nd book is supposed to be better and maybe Everly isn't going to stand to be raped by her husband all the time, it's gonna be a hard pass for me. This is one couple that I don't care to see how they resolve issues and develop the kind of relationship that works for both of them. Maybe if the writing was better, I would have considered giving the sequel a shot, but given how it was a miracle I finished this one, thanks, but no thanks. I've already wasted too many hours of my life reading this one that I'll unfortunately never get back.
God there is so much I want to say about this book but nowhere would publish my review because the tirade of swearwords would be far too much. I have nothing nice to say and I really don't want to be like that.
This is the first book by this author that I didn't really gel with. I hated the main characters. Gunner was just a total pig and I found nothing endearing about this man. I mean we love to hate the arsehole in most men but he was on a scale all on his own.
Everly for me was totally weak to the point I wanted to slap some sense into her. She had no fight and just bowed to pressure. She was walked over by Gunner and I hated that about this story.
Now I know, I don't have the full story and I know my views will change when I get the second book, Hate Sober. I know there will be reasons for all the actions I don't understand now. And that's why I will wait to give my full verdict once the duet is complete.
I don't know what else to say about this story or the characters so I won't say anymore. I'll comeback to give my opinion when the next book drops.
5 LOVE DRUNK STARS!! I could not read this book in fast enough, by the time I finished I felt drunk on this story. This author has consumed me with her words again.....I need book #2 now...I am dying inside. Gunner and Everly's story will hit all your emotion buttons and take you on one heck of a ride. You definitely need to read this book, so download it now.
Omg gunner was an omg character. I devoured this story and already want to devour it again. I highly enjoyed this story and can't wait for the second book in this duet.
this was so cringy & so incredibly toxic as well not well written at all. it was all over the place, one minute they hate each other and the next they’re fucking and they’re in love. it’s was more of a whirlwind than my last relationship
Not my first read by author, although I haven't read a lot by this author, enough to make me want to stay if that makes sense. I do have one book of her's that's on my TOP 2019 MUST READ list. That said, this is a DARK ROMANCE which I do read and really love, to an extend. This unfortunately went past that extend and sadly it was A LOT of dark for me, went over that line...for me that is. Maybe this is how DARK romance is supposed to work but I got to 84% and just, it stopped for me. I don't know how to word this without it sounding really mean because it's not, I just...it's not my type of Dark-ER Romance taste! I am always hones tin my review's and so this is what you'll always get. Good OR bad! Also that's how this review should be looked at
This is a story revolving mainly around the heroine, it is in her POV only but the end. It's a power, wealth and Mob related dark romance. Everly is a young woman who is pretty happy, she has her life together and might even be able to be fully free of her father and family life. So she thought. When she meets a dark man because her best friends dares her to go talk to him, things really heat up. It's romantic in a alpha dark sense, and I enjoyed it in the beginning. But nothing is as she thinks, her life...she has been living in her own little world unaware of her family's work. This is where I don't know how to continue with reviewing because it does go into rather dark-ER scenes that I didn't even know would be my triggers. I had to stop at 84% take a breath and managed to finish Book #1 but it was really hard to. This is why: the romance for me STOPPED all together, it shifted into more hate, not in the sexy alpha type just hate between the hero and heroine. That's one trigger, the other is Forced Sex (even if the heroine mildly enjoyed it in the first place) it went too far for me, at once points the heroine was not enjoying it. This is not to be confused with Hate Sex or Angry Sex. He does put marks on her, there is blood involved and just too dark for me. Writing about it makes me cringe because it's not my cup of tea. So those are the trigger's for anyone who also has them. I really appreciate my ARC from the author and will continue reading her contemporary lighter books.
The TWIST in the end is what also got me, intense but there is a huge twist for sure! I really wish there was a little bit of a forewarning of triggers in this. Personally, that was really hard for me to read.
Rating: 3 1/2★ Romance: ♡♡♡♡ Steamy: 🔥🔥🔥 Type: Book #1 of Duo ⇨ H A P P Y – R E A D I N G ⇦
How did I miss what a devil he is? I’m waiting to wake up. Someone tell me this is all a dream. “You’re wet. Do you know that?” The look of sheer horror that crosses over my face makes his smile wider. “Don’t be shy, bunny. You like it when I’m rough.” He leans down to kiss me, and I turn my head to the side, so his lips land on my cheek. I feel him at my entrance as he positions himself between them. “Bunny, look at me.” I don’t. I can’t bring myself to. He pulls my face around hard, so I have to. “Look at me, bunny. I want to see your face when I fuck you.”
Wow..... Legit can't put this book into words. It went from dark to TOOO far. What the heck. But at the same time I couldn't STOP reading and I don't want to read book 2 but yet I need to know how it ends. I'm curious how things can be redeemed. It was like an EXTREME Fifty Shades of Grey. This made Christian Grey look PG. 😳 I can't decide how to rate it. I was sucked into the first half but the last quarter almost made me feel a little too ick and that's saying something cause I like dark stuff.
Steaminess level: 10

OMG. This is so good and addictive in a dark twisted way. One word Gunner on my word he is delicious and such a huge presence in this story. From the moment Everly meets him she becomes consumed by everything about him can't say I blame her really. A story of secrets that trap Everly before she realises she is a pawn in a game she knows nothing about.
It doesn't surprise me that this author has written a twisted addictive story with a male character who may divide readers. A seductive thrilling dark story with a cliffy that left me panting for more Gunner.
Once again TL Smith writes a book that completely and utterly shocks and awes me. This woman knows how to draw in her audience. I was hooked on Gunner and Everly from page one. I need more!!!
Love Drunk is just WOW! All consuming for sure. You will despise Gunner at times, and love him to bits at others. I ADORED Everly. This isn't your typical love story and is dark and twisted as only TL can write. I can not wait for Hate Sober I'm dying to see what happens.
This story was the perfect rollercoaster. Everly and Gunner were so hot at times and then it was like a bucket of ice between them at others but she was so caught up in the hamster wheel of emotions he invoked she just didn’t care. This books characters drew me from the beginning and I can’t wait for the next one.
I voluntarily reviewed a advanced readers copy of this book
Well, here I am again 🙂 Hi, so, .W.T.F ❗❗❗ Yes, that's what happens when I read the first book from a duet. OK? I'm not alive. I'm not breathing. I am so confused with myself especially. What did I read right now?! 🤐 Such a crzay story! Oh I'm so in love with him that it's hard for me to express. I really don't have anything to say about this book so hot 😂 that my phone and my kindle almost was on fire in the middle of the night 🔥👊 (With me...) All I know is ... I need the second part of the story, here. RIGHT NOW. At first, when I started reading it I thought I was coming to a normal novel. And I liked it so much But as I keep read it, and I can't stop it and then I got there. To the point I didn't expect. Everything was reversed. The darkness has come into the story here. 😈😁 Story, as I like 🔥🖤
“We don't live in your time anymore, Papa. Women own multimillion-dollar companies now. From a woman's world. "
Everly, 25 age old. Witty. Funny. Flows. She wants what each a normal girl wants. Wedding, love and living with man next to her. 👑 She owns a coffee shoo. It's all what she needs. Her dad, funded it for her. I would call her Alpha. Because she was born in a male environment. Alpha men who dominate the black side, the dark side. And there she grew up.
When her friend May challenges her to approach a man. Just for the fun. She walks in. And she doesn't know where she's going. For Love Drunk. 🍾💥
"I know I'm not ugly, but I'm also not a supermodel. I have an ass, my hips are bigger than most, and my tits are smaller than a handful. But having him look the way he is right now , makes me feel like I'm the only woman he wants to see. "
I liked her character very much. very very. She was at first so soft as butter and slowly with the story I find out about her sides I did not discover. In the course of the story, she discovers things. For herself, for the life in which she grew up, for her way, for the dark side she has. It is undergoing change. A life journey of its own.
When she turns to the man, his name is Gunner. And W.T.F. what an alpha man! 🖤🔥 Give me her drink 😂 right now!!!!! He pulls her towards him. He calls her to come home to him. And after such a scene, I just pass out and die. Everly, she thinks she'll forget it. One time. That all the she needed. Disposable, but she is addicted. Addicted to something she doesn't know.
Gunner's character has lots of sides. I fell in love with him from the beginning. Simple male figure. Smart one. Alpha Man. In the bed makes us all warm up and go up in flames 🔥😂 But, it is mysterious. I didn't get much from him in this book. And hope to have in the next book. ⁉️ When he watches Everly, he sees something in her that he didn't feel. 🙊 Sex was fun for him. Escape. Self satisfaction.
“Not everyone wants that, Everly. Not everyone wants to be written in storybook collections. Some of us like it dark and dangerous. Can you accept that? "
Two of them introduce themselves to a whirlwind story. And me as a reader, too. Inside. Deep down inside a mysterious and full of secrets. About the families, and story of the characters. I liked the characters that were different. Different thoughts on the future. Other intentions. Quite the opposite. Like the colors, Black and White.
And here I am, reading and reading, deeply in love with them. In their own way. In their conduct. (From their scenes ... 🔥😝) And then, BOOM 💥, the tweets came in the plot 🤐 Simply put, I pulled hair! The story literally flipped over to me 360! And I'm not kidding, I freaked out, and with the scum. I fell in love even more!
From this story I came out with lots and lots of questions. ⁉️ how? Why? And when? I really hope I get my answers in the second book in the duet. I'm curious about the sequel, Gunner's story. About his life. How he as a person got to where he is today. And for Everly, for the self-journey she goes through with herself. With the secrets she lived inside.
“I would find you if you did leave, Everly. And you like the outcome. Do you understand? You can never leave me. You are mine. Forever. ”
In summary, this is not a book of pure love. He starts like this. But, getting a totally cool twist that I just fell in love with. We each have dark sides. 💥🖤 Internal sides. 👥 Or external sides. 📤 And the choice is, whether or not to reveal them? I chose this time, yes, I do. 🤐😈
What did I just read?! I am shocked, speechless, go smacked and every other possible adjective you can use to describe how a book has destroyed you.
‘Love Drunk’ by TL Smith is book one is a duet that has the power to destroy your souls from the get-go.
I seriously have no idea what to think of this book, just like the characters in it, I have a very strong love-hate relationship with this story and it couldn’t fit more perfectly.
I have laughed and loved alongside these characters, scoffed at my kindle, screamed in shock, hated the feeling I had towards these characters and most importantly questioned my sanity!
This amazing and crazy story will destroy your mind and soul, leaving you a panting and confused mess with one of the strongest cravings for book two.
Everly is our beautiful heroine, she is shy and yet confident, she is a strong businesswoman who has worked hard to get where she is now and will work even harder to keep it that way. She is funny and beautiful, inside and out, she is smart and fierce, she is a believer of women who can achieve anything and a lover ready to sacrifice to make keep her loved ones happy. Her future has been planned for her since before she was born, but she will not accept it nor agree with it. No, she is a fighter and fight is what she will do, even though sometimes it might be a little harder than others.
Gunner, that motherf*cker who is so attractive and elusive you can’t help but gravitate towards him. He is hot and cold, calculating in everything he does and says, he is confusing and infuriating to the highest level. But he can also be kind and caring, in his own way, he can take care of what’s important and show a softer side to the cold facade he always has on. He is the devil incarnate but still manages to steal your heart and body, rendering you a useless mess and imposing an even messier fate for your body.
This book is intriguing and interesting. It had drama and action intertwined with a lot of passion and steam, it will seriously mess with you. This is a dark book that has scenes that could trigger some readers, scenes that could make readers uncomfortable in both the best and worst way possible, scenes that will make you second guess yourself and some that will make you go so crazy you will have to ask yourself is you are sane or not. Your boundaries will be pushed to the limit and maybe even over it, so you need to be ready to lose yourself in this book and be okay with it
This book is a crazy and dark masterpiece that will own you, scare you, turn you on, shock you and maybe even terrify you with what’s to come.
Because this is a duet, there is a cliffhanger at the end of book one, but trust me when I say it truly is worth it. You will love and hate this story, a story you can’t put down even if you try and you won’t stop thinking about it even after you’ve finished.
A very dark psychological romance with claws so sharp and long they will sink into your heart turning it the darkest form of black right from the very first chapter.
“Rough hands touch me. If he wants to claim me again, I will let him. I love this man. I’m love-drunk on him, and I’m afraid I will never get sober. The problem is, I want to be sober. No. I need to be sober.”
Coming from wealth and carrying the weight of expectation she is the only heir to the family legacy. Living independently and running her own business has given her a sense of freedom and the perception that maybe she can marry for love not for family but is it all an illusion? Meeting a deliciously decadent stranger in the club she fears for her heart as she falls down the rabbit hole, deeper and deeper under his spell. Who is the mysterious Gunner and why is he so addictive?
Not everything is as it seems in this first part of a duo; the rush of emotion, the wave of need and the first hit of him is beautifully described as not only an emotional response but a deeper visceral one. She is trapped in a web of want and need, desperately aware she needs to fight her addiction but unable to break the cycle. Those of you who have been “love drunk” will totally empathise with her and scream for her to trust her gut, her survival instincts are screaming to run run run little Bunny. Unfortunately it’s rare we listen...
We see many facets to Gunner as he is an aloof mystery man with a hidden agenda that soon takes off his mask once he has her deep within his control. I love him but I hate him and right now I’m not sure there can be a happily ever after for the naive princess who wasn’t aware that her crown was soaked in blood. Anxiously awaiting my next fix of this scintillating and intriguing story. Cliffhangers... I’ll have no nails left!
A five star “Not everyone wants that, Everly. Not everyone wants what’s written in storybook collections. Some of us like it dark and dangerous. Can you accept that?” read.

Jess ~ I expected to be taken for a ride and this book was certainly a wild one.
Everly is love-drunk for Gunner. She can't see past these intense feelings and she finds herself in some pretty precarious situations. Even when the outside world is screaming at her, she is left mute by her feelings for this dangerously beautiful stranger. You spend most of the book in her head, which is a mess. She is hot and cold. She tries to be strong but is weakened her family and this man.
Gunner is a hard person to like. He is moody and secretive and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about him. There are very few redeeming qualities but I am thoroughly intrigued about where the story is going. This was dark and bit crazy and leaves you in place that the directions for where this could go are endless.
We have all had that love drunk feeling where you are completely enthralled with someone, that you love them so much even though they aren't that good for you? The highs and lows you feel throughout the relationship really have you spinning and TL has done an amazing job captivating that in this book.
I am completely torn as to whether I am rooting for Gunner or not. At the moment I want to junk punch him so much but I have a feeling in the next part of the duet that feeling may change. He may be deliciously dark and appealing but his stand off demeanour and how he treats Everly is quite the turn off.
TL has done a brilliant job with these characters. She drew me in from the very beginning, which after the week I have had at work, was quite a feat as my concentration was shot but TL managed it. I never knew which way this book was going to go and the last half of the book had a lot of jaw dropping moments.
I am super excited for book 2 Hate Sober as I really want to see what happens next
