Lunewulf - In Her Blood By Lorie O'Clare Book 2 in the Lunewulf series Elsa Rousseau will have nothing to do with Pack Law. She will choose her own mate. No one will tell her what to do, or who to do it with. But unfortunately, that means running from her pack, continually hiding and never settling down for too long. That is, until she meets Rick Bolton. Quite possibly he is more stubborn and willful than she is. Sparks fly the moment they lay eyes on each other. Elsa knows she has not only met her match, but the mate she will have no matter who tries to stop her.
Lorie O'Clare is an American author of erotic romance, romantic suspense and paranormal romance novels. The anthology Men of Danger, which featured her story “Love Me 'til Death,” was a New York Times bestseller. Also writes under the pen name Laurie Fitzgerald.
On the run from her pack, Elsa never settles in one place too long until she runs into Rick Bolton who just may be more willful and stubborn than she is in this riveting erotic paranormal romance.
With a fast pace and smooth flowing plot, this romance keeps readers on the edge of anticipation with suspense, excitement and passion. Rick decides he wants Elsa upon first meeting but Elsa is on the run and wants nothing to do with Alpha males who will take her independence away. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the white hot desire and passion that flows from every page of their story with frequent scorching sex scenes and the sparks that fly from these two willful and combustible characters.
There’s not a dull moment to be found in this story as there is more going on than any one pack should have to handle at one time. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and build tension throughout as Rick tries to find out what Elsa is running from, the queen bitch in the pack causing some major drama, cubs being born, another alpha wanting territory and strange wolves in town. Put all that together and there is plenty of excitement to keep the reader on their toes, but the author throws in a few surprises to keep the readers guessing as well.
The fascinating world draws the reader in and ensures that they come back for more and the strong captivating characters invite the reader to visit often. The author has added her own touches to werewolf legend that gives this story its own unique appeal and I was thoroughly entertained from the very beginning and I can’t wait to read the next one.
This is a book with an exciting and well-constructed plot. Period.
I wish the author had shown more of the hero's point of view, we never are exposed to his feelings for the heroine outside of dialogue showing his worry over her well-being. The exposition of the heroine's backstory, and that of the hero, is spotty. The thoughts of the heroine that the author shares show no emotional growth. The "love" scenes don't ring my bell. The entire book is more about actions than about people.
As for setting, let's just say that world-building doesn't appear to be the author's strong point.
If you've already read the first story, as I have, you may fail to be disappointed...or not, as the case may be. It was in Primal Heat, and I liked it. Other than some names, there is no continuity to the series. The main character who is carried over from the previous tale is barely mentioned in the other story, and her feelings about the folks back there are diametrically opposed to that of the heroine in the first story.
It's too bad, really, because I liked some of the secondary characters in this story, and wish there was a stronger author to take over and give me their stories with some semblance of skill.
I've no intention of reading anything else by Lorie O'Clare.
Elsa is running from her pack. Her insane grandmother (who leads the pack) has decreed who she will mate with and Elsa just wants to be free to make her own choices. While on the run, her car breaks down smack in the middle of Rick's pack territory. And now that Rick's seen and smelled her, he has no intention of letting her get away.
A quick, enjoyable, and hot read. I hadn't read any of the other books in the series, but definately enjoyed this one by Lori O'Clare.
Some things well done, others poorly done, made for an okay read. First the problems. -The hero. Rick is presented as this dominant alpha pack leader (cool, right?) but literally nobody listens to him and he does nothing but get grumpy as he is ignored. He can’t control his pack members at all but continues to talk like he can. Meanwhile he is running all over town to do favors for everyone. He is also usually out of the loop because he has a cell phone but the coverage is so shitty no one even bothers trying to call him on it. *Side note, the author just really didn’t seem able to commit to a dominant/submissive relationship. At first the heroine feels a natural urge to submit to him, then that just disappears. It’s weird because it was done really well in the first story. Either make it part of the werewolf dynamic or make it depend on the characters, but don’t pay lip service to it then show it to be completely untrue.* -The big conflict that peters out. The whole ‘oh no my pack will find me and drag me back’ that drives the story for 3/4 of the book is resolved mostly off page and with little to do. -The romance that ghosts half the story. The hero and heroine spend most of their time running around doing their own things and little time together. Also her nickname for him is “wolf man” even though literally everyone she knows is a wolf man or woman. -The wolfiness. This could actually be a strong point of the story because it’s interesting to make werewolf culture a lot like real wolf culture (with a lot of outdated ideas about how wolves are in the wild, but I digress). Unfortunately it comes across as a bit annoying. Every female is a “bitch”, which is a practical and accurate description, a term of endearment, and an insult at varying times. They whelp pups into their den (what they call their houses and their blood relatives). And so on. It should be good world building but feels like it’s trying too hard instead.
Now the good. -The sex. The sex scenes are well written and plentiful, maybe a bit vanilla, but hot. The hero at least manages to sound dominant in the sack. -The heroine. The heroine has an interesting story and her head isn’t a bad place to spend a story. She is a bit annoying at times with making rash decisions because damn it she’s a strong independent woman! However, I have read worse in that way and at least she is consistent. So maybe this is not so much a point in favor of good as not bad. -The early storyline. The idea that Elsa fled her pack to escape being forced into a breeding situation that she did not agree with is an interesting angle. Finding refuge with a new pack makes for a good story and a good setup for a relationship. The storyline gets scattered and a bit dumb later, but it’s solid for the first half.
2.5 stars that I was going to round up until I wrote this out and realized that most of the good points aren’t actually that good.
This book was fine. The use of the "bitch" in the technical way it is used (a female dog) was odd because later on in the book they use it in the curse word context. There was also one part of the book that was from Elsa's point of view where she was mentioning how good Rick looked and the passage read "he looked so good in his straight legged boot cut jeans." The use of so many adjectives made me laugh I won't lie. However, this is a fantasy book in a made up place and the main man is named RICK!!
She's on the run from her pack, who are trying to force her to mate with three lunewolves. He wants to protect and keep her when he runs into her as she hunts down a deer. I liked this couple, the story sometimes felt disjointed, the transitions were jumpy and I kept backtracking trying to figure out what I'd missed. Warning there is some sexual violence.

While running from her grandmother, leader of the pure breed Lunewulf pack, Elsa Rousseau has unknowingly stumbled across the werewolf of her dreams. Yet, while Elsa may not know she has met her mate, Rick Bolton, the unknown werewolf, has no doubts that he has met his. With stealth and determination, Rick sets out to captivate Elsa and secure the future of his pack by making her his Queen Bitch. Though Elsa is drawn to Rick and falls in love with the members of his pack, she is unsure whether she is strong enough to risk her love and maybe her life to secure her and Rick’s future.
In Her Blood is the second story in the Lunewulf series by Ms. O’Clare and the first full-fledged novel. It is a terrific sequel that shows the amazing growth of Ms. O’Clare as a writer. While reading I felt the true conflict Elsa was having within herself, to stay with the mate she wants or flee from her controlling pack, and Rick’s determination to conquer his mate came through loud and clear. LOL!!! . The erotica scenes are numerous and very passionate. The story is fast paced and will capture your attention from the beginning, making it hard to put down. With werewolf and shape shifting books becoming extremely popular in the romance and erotica genre, In Her Blood stands out as being a terrific book.
A great quick read. Elsa didn’t agree with the pack law (from book one) to take on three male mates, so she left and when out on her own in the wild she was free, until one day while tying to have a nice dinner a werewolf came across her path and things would never be the same. I really liked this book it has the action that goes with werewolf’s, plus just the right amount of hot sex and storyline so neither gets dull.
Rick and Elsa are great together it took him a while to win her trust, but when he did she took on the queen for Rick and the whole pack. You’ll find there romance builds as they go.
The plot of this book was good, as was the pacing. Like the first book in this series, it needed a really good edit though. I know this story was written before cell phones were everywhere, so that is understandable, but the fact that 90% of the conflict revolved around people not leaving notes was unacceptable. The biggest annoyance for me is the author and editor don't know the difference between ensure and insure, and this mistake was repeated more than once.
A very good quick read with a great plot. I enjoyed this book more than Lunewulf Law, in fact I have not finished reading it and jumped to this one as this story was soo much better than book 1. Elsa was a good heroine, I really did enjoy her and Rick was just soooo yummy. Only thing missing for me to give it a 5 star, we should have known more as to how Elsa escaped and how she survived to end up in Rick's little town. Also what happened with Ethan Masterson?
