Our love wasn’t enough. He had demons. I had hopes. Together we were never meant to be. That didn’t stop us, though. Even when it should have. Even when I saw those demons loud and clear. I should have stayed away. Should have never looked back. But love, it’s a fickle thing. And sometimes… You need to embrace the darkness. Or let it destroy you. I was drunk once. Now, I’m sober.
USA Today Best Selling Author T.L. Smith loves to write her characters with flaws so beautiful and dark that you can’t turn away from. Her books have been translated into several languages. If you don’t find her in her home town of Queensland, Australia you can usually find her travelling around the world to sitting on a beach in Bali, to exploring Alcatraz in San Francisco or walking the streets of New York.
"He was crafted by gods. But he's a fallen angel, perhaps even Lucifer himself."
After I wasn't so sure what to think about Love Drunk and the fact that this book was mostly about lust, attraction and fast falling, I got quite surprised how TL Smith was able to turn the tide. Everly surprised me most of all. After the first book I didn't expect she had it in her, to stand up for herself, to fight for herself and to go through hell and back just to stay true to herself. But she did! And how she did it! This girl is strong, this girl was born with fire and ready to fight. She's a true heroine!
With Gunnar I was a little disappointed. I would have loved to see more of him. Of his dark side and how he is fighting it for his love. I would have love to see deeper into his dark mind and his dark world.
"A love like ours is carved from the depth of hell and made from the purest of angels."
With Hate Sober TL Smith delivers a perfect conclusion to this duet. It's dark - even though it could have been darker - and gritty, thrilling and gripping. It's a book that keeps you up late at night cheering for your heroine.
"I love that she loves me. Even when she shouldn't."
5 LOVE/HATE STARS!! This series is phenomenal!! Gunner....Oh how I love this man. He is dark, sexy, jerky and loving, he keep us readers glued to his every word. Everly is beautiful, strong and so in love with Gunner. You will be on the edge of your seats while reading this page turning duet. T.L. Smith is the Queen of dark and she really grips our hearts with her words and keeps us guessing at every page. You definitely need to read this duet.
We really enjoyed this story from beginning to end what and what an emotional roller coaster did this story take us on.
This story had an amazing set of characters that you could not help but fall in love with.Gunner was a character we where drawn to him the minute we met him.Gunner was one of those tall and dark and dangerous men that makes you uneasy as his dominance and presence is always over the top and that always keeps you on edge as you never no how the man will act next.
"That man scared the sh** out of me but, I also knew if you were his he would protective you with everything he had and even giving his own life to do it."
We always pick a favorite character and this time around its going to be Gunner as we loved seeing all the changes that this man went through and the struggles he had with wanting to become a better man for Everly and the kind of man she needed but also deserved.
Everly- We loved her instantly as we loved that she stood up for herself and demanded respect and equality in her marriage and when she realized that that would never happen she chose to make a life for herself on her own even if she would be leaving her heart behind,
Overall we loved this story from beginning to end and everything in between. This story made you feel and you saw just how messy life really can get and that love alone is not always enough. My heart went out to both of these characters as they were hurting and so in love that being apart was killing each of them and moving on was becoming a problem for both.
"We love the ending to this not so perfect love story !"
What would it be like to not be able not to move on be able to move on by a love like this ?
I don't know why I was so worried * rolls eyes at self. T.L Smith brought it all together perfectly in the second part of this duet.
A duet that had me confused, am I really meant to hate this character? the curiosity won me over and I just had to see how it all came together in the end and I admit, although I didn't like Gunner at all in the first part of this duet, I was doubtful that I would even warm to him, the guy won me over, even made me swoon and I ended up loving this duet, * oh ye of little faith in this authors ability to bowl you over.
Twists and turns, danger, kidnapping, it's all going on in this dark and angsty second book to this duet and I was hooked til the very end.
Told in the first person, I felt I needed more in Gunners pov, certainly more in the first book so I understood him a bit more and I would have liked more to the hea but overall HATE SOBER is an intense and addictive read.
Ok I have to admit that I was torn when I finished read Love Drunk, I was on the fence on how this duet would turn out and I was also on the fence of whether or not I was going to ever give Gunner another chance. Everly has had her life torn to bits with secrets and half truths that she is torn to what is in her heart and her brain, I loved her character immensely but at times I wanted to knock her upside her head..... I am glad to admit that I didn't give up on her. Gunner Reid...….. Sigh... I had a rough time with but as always T.L Smith made my fears go away and made me see the light as much as Gunner did! Queen of the crossover characters, I ABSOLUTELY love when authors do this in their stories, It's a lovely surprise and sometimes quite a shock but I love it nonetheless. Impeccably Written Hate Sober takes you on a rollercoaster ride of every single emotion and then some, It grabs ahold of you and tears your heart to shreds... Then of course it woven perfectly back together as things should be.
“You start to sober up. You are the man I thought you were. ”
Well, wow Recently, I was at a moment that I can't read anything. For a long! I was waiting for a book that would really save me. That a book will come and blow my mind. 💥 And this book came to me just in time. This review is relatively short, as there will be no spoilers for the first book. For my review of the first book:
1. I was eagerly awaiting the second part. ✔ 2. I was looking for a book to get me out of the checkpoint. 3. Crazy about the author. ✔ 4. Need more than that? 🤔 ✔ 5. I got my answers from the previous book. ✔
The second book in the duet continues at exactly the same point where the first ended. Gunner and Everley's story goes on. If in the previous book, I went up in flames There was a fire here already. And sexual tension. 😱 ♥ ️ That being said, all the cards are scrambled. 🃏
"What would have happened if we were just two normal people who fell in love?"
Everly, continues to discover things. About her life, herself. About the realationship she was dating. For the drunk love she put in herself. She loves, and loves 💔 She believes in destiny. That they fit together. But is their love really. It is pure love, or rather, it is a Hate Sober.
Gunner, on the first book. I came out with lots of questions about him. And I'm most glad I get my answers. And the answers are, what I thought, and I wanted to I did well overall
He is full of demons. He is all mixed up with himself. His love for Everly is hard. This is not a book of 'marital relations'. really. But really not!
“I only loved one woman in my life, and here right now. I could never love anyone as much as I love you, Everly. Of that fact I am sure. ”
Everly and Gunner are different from each other. She sees white, and he sees black. Mixing the colors together will get gray. But, love is something that drives us crazy. And Everly, she was already there. And it's not for her. But, Gunner doesn't give up 💥💥 he's a man of control. The power is in his hands.
I liked and I must point out that in the second book, there were almost no sex scenes. Because, it wasn't necessary. Here was a restoration. An extraordinary love story. Reach from one point to another.
"Who knew you could miss someone you wanted out of your life? How is that even possible?"
I read until, to the end. It took me a week to finish this book, because I didn't want it to end. I felt the characters. I connected with them. And the second I finish a book, and say WOW OH NO! For me, this is a book worth a lot. But, there were other things that just made me forget where I was, or what time it was. I focused on the story that just flew 🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️
In conclusion, if you are looking for a book that will put you into a dark cave, and after that you come out with a smile on your face and face 😁 and hair in the air 🥳🥳 And a lots of areas full (there were scenes ... 🤩 Oh gosh, BDSM STYLE) in sweat. This is your duet
Well I must eat my words, exactly as I knew I would. Why I ever doubted that I would love this, is totally beyond me. Now in the first book, I totally hated Gunner with a passion, he was a total arsehole and I felt that Everly was so weak. But this book changed my mind so much.
Everly is one strong, determined and brave woman and I totally get how I was mistaken in my views and I feel that if book one wasn't as it was then she never would have evolved into the woman she became.
Now with Gunner I hated him with a passion, I hate him more than any other character I've read before and still at the start of this book I felt the same but once you see how his life was, the circumstances involving his family. It all makes some sense but as he fought his way through his problems and realises what is important.
I totally loved this book and I couldn't recommend this duet enough. Just remember you need to give it a chance, that things and opinions will change
What a second half. Wow, this book was slow burn city, and I loved every moment of it. T.L. Smith is a master at toying with a readers emotions, and I don't think ever more apparent than with this book. What the characters go through is pure torture. At times I wanted to throw my kindle and curse the author's name. I knew if I stuck with it, it would be worth it. I cannot imagine being in their shoes, and for once I didn't want to be part of a story. I wanted to read about it from afar. Gripping, enthralling, mesmerizing, are all words to describe this book. So make sure you pick up a copy.
Hate Sober, is the conclusion book to the Love Me Duet.
Prepare for the unexpected and more importantly prepare to be thrown off guard. If this is what this author intended. T.L. Smith certainly didn’t disappoint.
This book was just like the first one, it was manipulating, compelling, and this duet is no exemption. A devastating beautiful read about embracing the darkness that consumes you and setting those demons free. A must read for those of you who love Twisted, cold and calculating reads.
Everly has to be my most favourite heroine, she is one strong, determined and brave woman. Even though she had to learn through the hard way of falling in love so fast and realising that the love they shared wasn’t enough that she would be faced with the demons that possess the other person. Sometimes when you brace the darkness, you need to prepare for it to destroy you.
Boy didn’t it destroy, it’s a fickle thing sometimes. The darkness within.
I’m a sucker for guys like Gunner when I read my books, where people grew to dislike him at the end of book one and the start of book two. I was stuck loving him throughout.
The heartache you watch Gunner go through, the pain, will absolutely break your heart. The thing about growing up the way Gunner did, is you believe that what you’ve been taught is the way you should become. In the eyes of many, a monster.
Throughout the see the journey of Gunner realising what is important and him working on himself to fight his way through those problems he has been faced with.
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. You should definitely check out this duet.
Ok, ok I’m going to start by saying that after I finished Love Drunk I didn’t think Gunner could or would redeem himself. I also didn’t really like him as a hero either. The way he treated Everly made me so mad! I honestly thought he was the biggest pos hero ever. But then I read Hate Sober and I went from despising him to loving him! Yes that’s right Gunner won me over! He. Won. Me. Over! I’m not going to say too much but he was not who I though he was. He’s a very, very complicated character who is incredibly flawed. But he does love Everly. It becomes so much more clearer in this book just how much she gets under his skin. Now let’s talk about Everly, this girl really comes into her own. She’s so strong for walking away, and this made me love her so much more. She’s very much in love with Gunner. But she can’t and won’t let him treat her the way he did at the end of book 1. I love the way her character develops. The way she puts herself back together. Also can I just say that I was totally slow on the uptake and it wasn’t until this book that I realised Gunner was the same Gunner in Playette! How I missed that I’ll never know! I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Amount of sex - 2 / 5 How explicit - 3 / 5 Romance - 4.5 / 5 Overall: - 4.5 / 5
I absolutely love this duet!
Hate Sober is the second book in the Love Me Duet written by author TL Smith. The first book, Love Drunk, literally blew me away, and I couldn’t wait to read the conclusion. As soon as I saw it on my Kindle, I literally stopped everything and jumped right in! Oh, in case you aren’t aware, this duet has a continuous storyline. Therefore, you need to read them in order.
Hate Sober begins where we were left off. Everly is confused by her love for Gunner after what happened in the first book. Even though Everly and Gunner’s love is strong and intense, she is not sure it can fix all of their problems. Gunner then becomes determined to change her mind.
Hate Sober has a different feel than the first book. The first was a bit darker and this was more of a slow-building romance. I really enjoyed seeing Gunner’s character development. Also, it was great seeing Jasper and Isadora from the author’s book Playette.
This was a journey. They fell hard and fast, but then it all fell apart. Love was sweeter the second time around. Gunner won my heart!
Gunner chased her off when he took away her ability to choose what she wanted. He stripped her of her home, her business and her own body. And when she had enough she left.
Everly let Gunner run all over her, but not anymore. She’s not willing to compromise who she is or what she wants anymore. Gunner may have her heart, but sometimes love isn’t enough. Everly needs to find her own way.
I felt the ANGST! I loved watching Everly finally figure out who she was and what she wanted. She became a strong, resilient woman who was not willing to settle. I felt her pain, but respected her strength in choosing to do things different the second time around.
I was never quite sure where the author was going to take the characters. I was happy with the path they took. I enjoyed the evolution of Everly and Gunner. Their love changed them both...for the better. Their chemistry and attraction never faded. They were just meant to be.
Working for what you want, makes it that much sweeter when you finally get it.
‘Hate Sober’ by TL Smith is a one book number two in the ‘Love Me’ duet and if I have to be completely honest, this is a one of a kind and very refreshing book that takes a different turn to the usual book we read.
If you follow me, then you already know how much I loved the first book in this duet, how much I love sweet Everly and psycho Gunner, and with this second book, those feelings just grew and grew. I got to know the characters better, you get to see part of them you didn’t see before, you get to understand them better and learn with them. If ‘Love Drunk’ was a book full of action and passion, then I’d say ‘Hate Sober’ is emotional and insightful.
The characters, between these two books, have to learn from their mistakes, change and undergo substantial growth that will take time, but in the end, it will take them where they need to be.
Everly is still strong and beautiful, a businesswoman full of life who will not accept a fate that was chosen for her, a woman who will fight with everything she has to get away from things she knows are bad for her, no matter how much they hurt. She is not naive anymore and through everything she has been through and will have to go through, she learns how to be resilient, how to put herself and her well being before others and how to be unapologetically her.
Gunner arrogant and stubborn as always, he is persistent and tenacious, powerful and scary both in his life and in his line of work. He is someone not to be crossed or challenged (unless you’re Everly), someone that doesn’t think twice before making you pay and someone who’ll take out his revenge for the ones he loves in full. Losing Everly didn’t go down well with that grumpy heart of his, and even if at the beginning, all hope seems lost, Gunner will learn from his mistakes, learn how to change and how to make it right.
This couple has been through so much, it’s hard to even see a future for them where they end up together, and there isn’t. For them to have the HEA we all want them to have, they will have to shed their skin, put their pride aside and change into a better version of themselves. They will need to love themselves as much as they love and hate each other, they will have to drastically make some better life choices in order to be able to keep what they love. And when they do, when they do it will be unforgettable, magical and it will feel new like the very first time they touched.
This book contains strong scenes that could become triggers for some readers, so be mindful.
If you are a fan of a good written, angst-filled romance that will keep you wondering what’s going to happen next throughout your reading, then this is the duet for you.
The angst and passion in this book are otherworldly, the heart-wrenching scenes that will leave you sobbing are unique, the inexplicable love you’ll feel for these characters is addictive and the charming yet thought-provoking story-telling of this book is just something you’ll never forget.
If you got drunk on these characters with the first book, then you’ll become addicted to them with ‘Hate Sober’.
Damn...this is one intense duet! At the start of Hate Sober I will fully admit I might have disliked Gunner, A LOT! But as time went on, the more Everly made him work to get his second chance, the more I could kinda see why she just couldn't fall out of love with him. I loved how much he grew, how much he developed, and how much he truly loved Everly.
And speaking of Everly...she's amazing - she's so strong and really didn't give an inch to Gunner until she felt like he deserved her, until he worked his ass off to get her back.
I have loved this duet and am really sorry to see it end.
ARC via Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review.
I went into this book a bit dubious. I didn't really enjoy book 1, and didn't feel as if it was a TL Smith book and I really disliked the characters. I had hope book 3 would be different, and tbh for the firdt half I still wasn't 100% sure. Gunner was still a complete and utter arse hole, thinking he knew everything and was very arrogant about it. Treating Everyky like a peice of shit. But the second half of the book is what made this a 4 star for me. We finally seen Everley as a strong woman and keeping to her guns. And we finally seen some real emotion from Gunner. We seen him fight for what he wanted, and seen the person behind the arrogant self-centered arse.
In the end, I actually enjoyed reading it. Was it my favourite TL book? No. Definitely not, but it wont stopped me from reading her in the future. She is one of my favourite authors.
After the way the first part of the duet Love Drunk finished I was nervous and excited for this one to see what would happen next. If you haven't read Love Drunk then don't read this one as it will spoil your enjoyment of this clever and brilliant Duet.
I will be honest I did start out hating Gunner. After his actions in the first book I would have been insane to actually like him but in this one he did win me over with the way he changed, he was suddenly putting someone else first, and after all I am a huge fan of a good redemption story and this was a great one.
This instalment had so much going on anger, hate, redemption, kidnapping but above all love and passion. After all there is a fine line between love and hate. The only thing I would like to see more of was the story told from Gunner's POV more as I would have loved to get more insight into what was going on in his head, what had finally kicked in for him to make this change.
Well done TL Smith, what an amazing duet you have delivered as always <3

Hate Sober( Love Me Duet 2) but T.L. Smith. This book picks up where Love Drunk left off. Running with Alexis is something Everly can't continue to do. She loves her husband despite the fact he was her arranged marriage and the fact his rough sex has left her black and blue. She is hurt and confused about the fact Alexis isn't her uncle and is madly in love with her. This story is her struggle to reconcile the facts in her life and come up with something so she can live her life. Everly definitely goes through many emotional ups and downs trying to come up with the right decision. Her only problem is she still loves her husband but how could he do the things he has done to her. Everly took me through the ringer with how she handled everything and at one point I wanted to ring her neck. However Gunner was Gunner but as time goes on I got to see a side of him that made him even more delicious. 4 stars for me.
Love Drunk got me hooked and Hate Sober made me swoon. Gunner...I know, I know...initially he was a hard man to love, but oh my gosh his evolution was amazing and for lack of a better word...swoon worthy. I loved seeing Everly stand up for herself. TL, girl, you completely took me on a fantastic, angsty journey with this duet. Must read!
Up until this point Everly has just accepted everything that Gunnar has done to her but no more. She has endured so much and is about to reclaim the woman that she is meant to be even if it means that the love she feels for Gunner becomes collateral damage.
I didn’t believe that Gunnar could be redeemed but he is about to realize that Everly brings light to the darkest part of his soul. We finally get to see another side to this man and watching it come to life was a miracle in the making.
So much drama, so much heat and so much emotion as Everly and Gunnar find out what truly makes them happy and that is each other.
“How long was I love drunk on him and now I thought I had sobered up. What a fool I am. Will I ever be sober? The answer is probably no. A love like ours is carved from the depths of hell and made from the purest of angels. It was bound to go wrong.”
A pawn, an agreement and an addiction she wasn’t ready to break Everly upon learning the whole truth ended up going cold turkey to break the habit. Painfully aware that her drug of choice was no good for her, he keeps tempting her to just one more hit. Stronger than anyone could conceive she surprises everyone with her determination. Forging her own path she is derailed when the past and a wicked plan is hatched. A victim of another’s dark desires once more can Everly find her way back to love without losing her sobriety and falling down that rabbit hole again?
Twists and turns abound in this concluding part to their story. Everly is freed from the restraints of her family and the expectations placed in her and is evolving into her own person. Having experienced carnal pleasures she was not prepared for she has hardened her resolve and refuses to give into temptation. Gunner too is fighting his addiction and doing all he can to evoke a reaction. Figuring out what he truly wants takes a little time and a truly heinous act makes him realise where his heart truly belongs. Trying to male reparations for the past forges their future and I loved hate sober!
A five star addiction is an itch that can never be fully scratched read.

During Love Drunk (Book in the Love Me Duet.) I was intrigued by Gunner and his backstory. I knew that we most certainly needed to get to the bottom of his tortured soul and find out who Gunner really is.
What I got was so so much more. I love how Everly’s character evolved. I’m usually quite astonished as to the direction T.L Smith takes her characters and Hate Sober was no exception. I enjoyed the continuation of Gunner & Everly’s story.
Hate Sober captivated me, because I was invested in these two leads from Love Drunk.it just goes to show Love is messy, and downright gut wrenching, but love is also breathtaking and worth the risk if your prepared to fight for it.
One of my favourite reads this year, you definitely need to one click this.
Hate Sober is book two in the Love Me Duet. It can not be read as a standalone, you must read Love Drunk first. Everly and Gunner story continues in this one and it picks up where Love Drunk left off. Gunner and Everly's story is intense at times. I loved the growth in the characters. And again in this one there are twists I didn't see coming. If you read the first one you are definitely going to want to pick this one up and if you haven't read the first one yet, this duet is worth picking up.
Gunner and Everly really had a difficult story. I wasn't sure how things would turn out in the conclusion but all the drama and angst had purpose. A story that will keep you captivated til the end. All the feels in this story.
This was a book I have been waiting on ever since I finished book one and it loved up to my expectations. Gunner is what I would call politely a complicted man, to be honest he is a jerk but a sexy one. I was so conflicted whilst reading this duet I really didn't want to like the characters as much as I did however the author made that hard to do. The writing continually pulled me and compelled me to keep reading to see what would happen next. Everly really comes into her own in this one her character growth was immense and I was proud of the decisions she made. This was another good story from one of my favourite dark authors.
This duet is definitely not what I was expecting. I didn’t like the first book that much but only because I needed more answers and to know more about their story and Hate Sober delivered more than I wanted. The same love that will get over the angst and suspense and twists and turns that will keep you on the edge till the last chapter.
What a way to keep one on their toes. Hate Sober by T.L. Smith was an exceptional conclusion to this duet. With the perfect amount of suspense, lust and tension it made for a thrilling read.
After walking away, or so she thought, Everly becomes more aware of her surroundings. With everything on the line is she able to forget Gunner once and for all, or will their love be enough for him to slip his way back into her life?
I always love reading T.L. Smith, her books always seem flawless and so compelling. Aside from riding the coattails of my last review, I’m just going to say I EFFING LOVED THIS DUET!! I highly recommend this.
This book must be read after Love Drunk. Once I started I could not put this book down it had me with my heart just about beating out of my chest and my anxiety levels were at an all time high. This book had me mesmerised by every word. When Everly is left feeling like her whole world is shattered she decides that she needs to be sober and the only way she can do that is she needs to leave Gunner. He however is not willing to let go of her without a fight. Will this pair ever be able to move on or will they be Love Drunk forever. This duet I feel is TL Smith’s best work so far, an absolutely captivating story that will have you enamoured just as I was.
Again Hate Sober will have you hooked with all the twists and turns, mystery and secrets as Love Drunk did! T.L. Smith will take you on a journey with Gunner & Evely! I'm not going say whether this story has a HEA or not you need to read this must duet to find out!
