Supernatural Reform School

Rate this book

I went from one of the most powerful supes in the world...

...to the bottom of my class at Supernatural Reform School.

The academy is for the rejects: shifters who can’t shift, witches who can’t spell, and psychs like me, who are powerless. All I want is to get my powers back online.

Not to make friends.

Definitely not to fall for my dragon shifter instructor.

But I’m beginning to think that losing my powers was no accident. Someone is stealing magic.

As I dig deeper into this conspiracy with my fellow reform-schoolers, we uncover a lot more than we bargained for. And the tentative human/supernatural relationships hang in the balance.

We may find out the truth, how can we do anything to stop it when we don't have our powers?

A Good Start

3.5, rounding up. This book is a good start to this series. Paranormal, YA. Cade is a bit full of herself but I liked her growth and emerging self awareness as the book progressed. I'm liking her more now than I did. There is a fun cast of characters and a developing, thickening plot I am very interested in. I'm glad book two is available now!

This is an amazing start to a new series. Cade has been dubbed the Paranormal Princess by the press because of who her parents are and what she can do with her powers. On her birthday her entire life is turned upside down.... she somehow has her powers taken from her. She now has to enroll in a school that she has always made fun of, the school of rejects and failures. Or so she thinks.
Without giving away too much, Cade grows up more in a few weeks there than she ever had outside of school. She meets some great new friends, a great counselor and let's not forget Bash ❤.
With her new friends and her new outlook on life Cade will discover that things are not what they seem, and maybe they never have been. I can't wait for more to see how this mystery unfolds. This is one series that I am excited to where is goes next

This is the first book I've read by these authors and I loved it. I will definitely be reading more!
Cade had it all, she was one of the most powerful supernatural before graduating high school, prestige and everything she could want.
On her birthday everything, her power was stolen. Everybody saw one person but four more appeared before she passed out.
Her parents are forcing her to go to a school named for her family for paranormal that have lost their powers, rejects sent to learn how to cope and move on.
Cade did want to go but she found her first true friends, a hot moody teacher and betrayal of the worst kind.

This was a really great start to a new series! Cade, the Paranormal Princess, had it all and then lost it in the blink of an eye. Now that she’s lost her powers, she’s among the other supernatural rejects at Blakemore Academy, who she originally deemed as losers and failures. With the help of her new friends, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get her powers back, reveal some secrets, and solve the mystery of many supes losing their powers. Cade’s character grows so much in this book- she started off as an entitled brat, but she starts realizing how she treats others and constantly works on bettering herself through the story. I loved the friendships that she formed with Willow, Levi, and Kurt and how much they’re there for one another and their daily interactions. Sebastian seems distant, harsh, and moody, but he’s definitely guarded and deep down he really does care. There’s plenty of book boyfriends, mystery, twists and turns, and emotions with tons of supernatural beings to keep you wanting more!

When a spoiled and privileged teen loses her powers and position in society, AND her parents ship her off to boarding school, it understandably takes her awhile to cool down.
But when she does she begins to discover that what she’s always looked down at as a reform school for misfits is actually hiding something darker.
I didn’t like the Mc very much at first- the typical spoiled princess type. But she quickly grew on me through how she handled her world crashing down and the romance element- although more yearning than action- was intense and reminded me a little of vampire academy, still one of my favourites for the intensity of emotion without resolution. I can not wait to see what happens next in this series and I’m impatiently waiting for more!
I received an advanced copy of this book and I couldn’t be happier to review it wholeheartedly!

Fantastic story! I was hooked almost from the very beginning. Although Cade's character has annoyed me, it was apart of her character flaw. And the characters are imperfectly perfect!
The storyline is addictive and fun with a great plot!
And the world building is thrilling, mysterious and gritty!
I can't wait for the next book!

This is a great start of a series. Love how you get to read along as “Cade” grows and learns she can be strong even without powers. The characters are so easy to relate to and love the boarding school atmosphere. I can’t wait to see where this story line goes.
I received an ARC of this book and this is an honest review.

Really good story. Great, Likeable characters. I like how the story builds and gets more interesting as it unfolds up to the very end. It ends with the reader wanting to know more rather than a cliff hangar. I want to keep reading and see what happens.
Nice mix of supernatural beings.
Good writing. Can’t wait for book 2.

2 Boring Stars

Bored pretty much the whole book so I ended up just skimming a lot. Heroine acted like a snobby and spoiled 13-15 year old when she's supposed to be 18 (though the cover model looks 13). She cries or walks away when she messes up or gives a crap comeback, and it's honestly so embarrassing. Most of the book she spends time whining about not having her powers, or thinking of Sebastian, who is such a bland hero, or being judgemental towards other people and yet caring so much what they think about her. She acts like a full on mean girl, except the actual mean girls in this were tougher and more interesting. Overall, this read like a book more for a teen, which usually I don't mind reading, but this one just had too boring of a plot and too many immature characters for me to enjoy at all.

Wow this was a great read and start to this series.
This book has a little of it all; we have magic, creatures, great world building, those with no magic, bit of mystery and romance along with academy life.
I love the plot and story line and can't wait to see where it goes next.
Great characters that have been fleshed out well and looking forward to reading more about them.
Can't wait to read the next one!!!
Recommend reading.

What happens when Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Patricia Briggs? This book! Cade used to be cool...until she lost her powers and got sent to Supernatural Reform School. Mad at the world and licking her wounds, she doesn’t expect to find true friendship with her roommate, Willow, or a couple of vampires, and definitely not the super hot, slightly broken, and definitely grumpy dragon shifter. Life would be pretty good indeed if it weren’t for the mages that might be more dangerous than anyone thought.

This is the first in a series written by two authors jointly. Their writing is smooth and seamless. The pacing and tension was perfect and kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. I really enjoyed the entire cast of characters. Cade’s character arc was also well-drawn and her the chemistry between her and Bast was PERFECT!

Are you down for sarcasm, shifters, witches, and vampires? Then this is a book for you.

I am definitely hooked on this story! I really like Cade’s character! Despite everything that has happened to her she doesn’t give up! Losing her powers has not made her weak. If anything I think it’s made her stronger. And her ending up going to the school has changed her life to become better in my opinion. She makes real friends and have people who truly care about her and not to mention the sexy Sebastian aka Bash!!! I am so shipping those two! I also really like her new friends: Willow and Levi & Kurt! I love how there are Evil mages with stealing magic and vampires and hot dragon shifter and other super naturals in this story. I look forward to seeing more! There’s definitely a lot of secrets that need to come to light and I can’t wait to find out exactly what actually is going on without spoiling anything. This story Is so good!

Good start to a new series. The main character goes from having it all to losing her magic and has to learn that she still has strength despite having no magic. The characters are very different from each other and well written and the storyline has enough twists and turns to keep you interested until the end.

It has beena while since I've read any School setting type of books, so I was a little skeptical about it. But it did not disappoint. I loved Cade's journey and being able to see her feelings and character development. I was hooked from the start, and now I am anxious to read the next book and see where the characters journey goes!

Surprisingly wonderful

So, this is very far from my usual style of book—HOWEVER—I loved it.
I found myself strangely drawn in by both the writing style and the familiar ease with which the authors present this world they’ve created. Before this, I would have told you I wasn’t a huge fan of slow burn, but Bash & Cade have this way about them that’s completely addicting. This book has something for everyone, and while the story line isn’t close to wrapping up in this book, it does have a satisfying “end.” We get a pretty big bombshell, which does a good job of making me want to find out what’s going to happen. It has the normal academy trappings but with some really neat twists that made it feel fresh and fun to read. (Seriously hoping Kurt gets his own story!) All in all, I’m really pleased I gave it a chance, and I urge others to do the same.

Since the Unveiling, when supernaturals revealed themselves to humans, both sides have enjoyed a tentative coexistence in relative peace. Eighteen year old Arcadiana Blakemore is a powerful Psyche, who works for a task force known as The Enforcers, that take down rogue supes. Infamously dubbed by the press as the ‘Paranormal Princess’ due to her status as an elite supe as well as the position of her parents on the Supernatural Senate, Cade is at the peak of her game with boyfriend Toby Keeler and best friend Eliza to boot.

All that changes when her powers are stolen by five mages during an assignment. In one night she’s lost her powers, as well as her boyfriend; and her best friend is ignoring her calls. Under protest she finds herself shipped off to Blakemore Paranormal Academy, a supernatural reform school founded by her parents, for rejects who have either lost their powers or have failed to activate them.

Struggling to cope with the absence of her powers, Cade is initially resentful of her surroundings and reluctant to make friends, even clashing with her self defence instructor, a dragon shifter who she feels an overwhelming attraction toward. With the help of her eccentric altruistic roommate Willow and two chivalrous vampires, however, Cade finally starts to feel like she belongs. During her research into what happened to her, Cade discovers that eighty percent of the students at the Academy have lost their powers as opposed to ten percent who haven’t activated them yet, the rest being vampires. As she digs deeper, she finds herself in increasing danger and uncovers a devastating betrayal.

Supernatural Reform School is the first instalment of the Blakemore Paranormal Academy series by authors Sullivan Gray and E.C Farrell. From the offset, I found myself totally immersed in the premise of the story. A world in which the coexistence between humans and supernaturals is marred by prejudice and suspicion and a nefarious conspiracy that seems intent on eradicating supernaturals.

The strength of the book rests in the loveable three dimensional characters created by both authors. Cade is a strong, sassy, albeit flawed protagonist who goes from being a spoilt and self entitled teen who initially looks down on supes with no powers, to someone who is humbled by her new found life at Blakemore. As a results of the friendships she forges, the chinks in her armour dissipate and she feels a sense of belonging, even despising the person she was before. Willow, Levi and Kurt were solid well rounded and appealing secondary characters and I loved the group dynamic between them.

Having had the privilege of reading Sebastian’s back story in Dragon Heir, I was privy to the reasons behind his aloofness as well as his inability to shift. The chemistry between both Sebastian and Cade was palpable and at times I wished that we were given insight from his point of view as opposed to only Cade’s. Imagine my surprise when I came to read the epilogue. It was as though the author had read my mind!

All in all, this was a well executed, fast paced and compelling introduction to what looks to be an exciting series. There were several shocking revelations towards the end which have ensured that this reader will be anticipating the follow up instalment.

Not much really happened. It starts off with a lonely kind of unlikable girl on her 18th birthday, spending time with even more unlikable people. Her boyfriend cheats on her, then she goes on a mission where Mages attack her. She wakes up days later with no powers. Her parents force her to go to the new school. Eventually she makes three friends there, who were really the best characters in the book, and meets the "hero", the self defense instructor. She is instantly drawn to him, a lot, all we here is how much she responds to him. He is rude, she is rude back, he slams her down twice, busting her nose. He is rude in pretty much ever scene, can't stand her because of who her parents are, and she gets mad. Then the next thing we know she is saying that he is right, that he is a great person, blah blah blah. I get tired of hero's being so mean or rude to someone who you know they are going to be romantically interested in, and then when they apologize the heroine says, no you were right to make me bleed, insult me, yell at me, ignore me, humiliate me, make me jealous, etc...
Her parents are big wigs in politics, she used to be a ultra powerful supe, and the media wont leave her alone. This makes others either not like her or be wary. Now she is part of the community she made fun of, the ones who lost or never got powers. She learns that more are losing them now and wants to find out who the mages are.

SPOILERS:

The hero tells her that her parents are involved in who ever is taking powers. She goes home, over hears them talking to her ex's dad and finds out he is right. She goes back and her and the hero finally kiss/make out. The epilogue is in the hero's pov. He was the Dragon prince, but when his dragon didn't come by 18 he lost his throne. His dad was going to kill him, but his mother got him out and got him this job. He had to leave behind everything, including his girlfriend/the one he was always supposed to marry. He is drawn to the h, his dragon is itching and coming to the surface for the first time in a year. He says that now he knows that he was never in love with his ex, she was his best friend. I think they're mates. He doesn't want to stop touching her. He will be fired if he is with her romantically, he says he doesn't need the job, but he will push her away, knowing it will hurt her, and hope she will forgive him later. UGH

Drew me in and kept me riveted

While I'm not generally drawn to the paranormal genre, it still pulled me in & I couldn't put it down.

I did find the constant description of Cade's attraction to Sebastian and how hot he was, etc, etc, got old fast. There was a hint of a supernatural attraction that he seemed to have, & I would have preferred for that aspect to have been better explained & more emphasized. Cade trying to discern how much of her attraction was the dragon effect on her vs that of Sebastian himself would have been an interesting angle.

Watching Cade come to terms with her brokenness & seeing the real friendships she develops was really touching. I loved her friends - especially, & unexpectedly, Kurt

Fair Warning: The ending is not a cliffhanger, per se, but it is a "To be continued". Book 2 is out, but book 3 won't be out until October 23rd, according to Amazon

*Clean romance level: passionate kisses, more sweet than clean - some talk of sex & virginity, hints of intimacy, but there is nothing graphic

Supernatural Reform School (Blakemore Paranormal Academy Book 1)

Fantastic start of a new Academy series!!!❤️‍🔥❤️❤️‍🔥🥰
Great world building and story line... Cade was working with the enforcers, with a touch of her finger she could take down an 800lb ogre, what at life, then the night of her 18th Birthday, she losses her powers to 5 mages, who everyone thinks she is confused and her world is turned upside down 😟... Now enrolled in a School for supes without powers, she feels so broken, lost and alone😳🥺🥺... Soon she will find real friends in Willow, Levi and Kurt; she has a major crush on Bash, their self defense instructor and definitely a new way of looking at her life... But, can she survive all the dark secrets unraveling before her that her friends have uncovered in helping her??? 🤔 I wonder 💭!!!!!

You will need to read this exciting book 📖 !!!
Definitely recommend this book 📕❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

what a good book. I am starting to see the whole picture but I can not wait for the next book in the series. It is actually a very good mystery/paranormal/love story all in one. I see where Sebastian ends up and I can not wait to see how Cade handles being torn from her magic and her family, along with how betrayed she has been. I like this series and suggest it to anyone who likes Vampires, Fae, Dragons, and Witches. It is really fun.

I just finished this and it didn’t take me long to get hooked on this series! It’s a very original idea with amazing world building. There were moments I really felt for Cade. Sebastian is just to die for, Willow is the best (but I may be biased because She’s Ginger) and I adored Levi. Also Kurt has amazing tastes in music 😂😂. As soon as I finish the Dragon Heir it’s off to the Second Book!

One day she has magic, the next day she's hexed and can't access her magic anymore. Good thing there's a school for that, complete with a hot teacher her age. This was a very enjoyable read for all fantasy and academy fans. I gobbled it up and finished in one day. I can't wait to read the next book.

More solid on the actual academy content than a lot of other academy-type books I've read (or started to read) and some interesting worldbuilding.

(Guessing at the date read because I just realised I never added it and it was at least a month ago.)
