When the element of fire burns within your veins, the academy for all things scorching is the best place to learn how to make that flame burn even hotter.
Alice Blaze is my name, and I'm not exactly your typical sixteen-year-old. My mom disappeared after my birth and my dad was an alcoholic maniac, so I was raised by my protective grandparents in the single house up the hill. The one people only come to visit on Halloween.
Because, yeah, apparently, our house is haunted. Naturally.
As an orphan living in a spooky house, it’s no surprise that my life has been…eventful. I’ve been inadvertently causing trouble since I was little and it always ends up with something combusting into flames. You know, lighting up the curtains, exploding vials in lab class. And don't get me started with the accidental school fire. Need I say more?
The flames really hit the fan when I'm accused of shattering all the windows in the entire school. Of course, that doesn't make sense because it has nothing to do with my burning nemesis. But it doesn’t matter. Expulsion is imminent and my grandparents are fed up with my constant transfers.
But then something amazing happens: a letter of invitation lands right onto our doorstep. Or should I say window?
I'm invited to Blazing Academy, the school for all things — and people — that are scorching hot. Shifters, demons, and blazing hot witches...oh, right. I almost left that part out. According to the school, that’s what I am. A blazing hot witch.
Let's hope that's all I am, and that this first semester goes a whole lot smoother than I'm imagining. Otherwise, my whole life might just go up in smoke.
Blazing Academy: Semester One (Academy for All Things Scorching) is Avery Song's newest book in her newest series. Meet Alice. She starts out living with her dad in this book, but her dad has a bit of a problem that pushes him to drink and he's deemed unfit to care for her so she's sent to live with her grandparents. Alice isn't normal, but her grandmother especially pushes her to be just that. The thing is...the clock is ticking for Alice and a seal that has been placed on her is breaking and it's only a matter of time before it does and unleashes the powers locked inside her. Sounds interesting right? Well...dive in! When I first started reading this book I was excited. Then I developed mix feelings about the storyline and Alice and then the author sucked me all the way in and down the rabbit hole. I was honestly disappointed that Alice didn't have a good relationship with her grandmother in the beginning. I was initially like...this is whom you are living with, who has been taking care of you and you act like you really don't appreciate it or her. Now, yes, there is more than meets the eye but that comes later so I just went with my first impressions concerning the situation. I love the different characters and how the author reveals their true identities. It totally hooks me in because it's a unique twist that you really don't expect but I love how unique each of them truly is. Now for those who find bullying upsetting...beware because there is a healthy dose of that in this book. I have to say that Alice had moments of where she really annoyed me. The name-calling bit between herself and another character that she meets...just a bit too childish for me. She's just turned 16 but in that bit, I couldn't help but view her more as an 8-year-old having a snit fit. Granted the other character was just as wrong, but as she is the focal point of the story that is where my attention focused on and got drawn to the most. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. Honestly, the book is well done and once I got past the immaturity of some of the characters the book becomes hard to put down. The author builds and weaves in so many unique elements. I will admit that there are quite a few familiar pieces that will stand out from previous books, but if you enjoy this author's writing and previous books then I'm sure that you will enjoy this book as well. I'm eager to see where things go next from here.
Read up until chapter 7 Blazing Academy For All Things Scorching. Waiting for full length novel, Read up until the first 7 chapters through Midnight academy collaboration. So excited to finish this book! UPDATE: It was going great until after chapter 10 then it just seemed eerily similar to all the other books in this 4/5 girl series. Perfect Scores/Instantly loved by the BFs/Bullied by other students for being different.I have a feeling it'll become like the others. I just want something different this time you know? More in depth about this issue and pattern: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... P.S. if you don't read her books you will not notice this but for someone who has read almost all of them, there is definitely a pattern of same old same old. I guess I'm just sad because I loved the excerpt in the collaboration/loved Alice but due to all the other Avery Song's heroines she isn't really different and this is especially seen after chapters 8/10. I know writers have their styles and there was a time I loved and devoured every Avery Song/Y-Wilson book but now I bored. I think maybe I'm just going to stop reading these....and writing these criticizing reviews. Does anyone else feel this about her books or is it just me? I guess I'm wondering if I'm the one who's growing while the books aren't.
This started out a little odd, bit boy, it picked up steam quickly. Once Alice is at the Academy things just snowballed... and that ending. I need the next book asap 😉
This book was 100% worth the wait not even passed the prologue and I was crying!!!
Alice has faced a hard life with an absent mum, alcoholic father who loves her but can’t control his problem and grandparents who try to keep her away from her dad and make her fit in when all she does is stand out, Alice is the prime target for bullies, especially when strange accidents involving fire keep getting her kicked out of school.
After being kicked out for the last time and finally having her grandparents convinced to home school her, Alice feels life is getting better when she receives an invite to blazing academy!! Where she finds out she’s a Blazing hot Witch, she’ll also meet Angelic owl Gabriel, Hellhound Warlock Kerebrus and Elemental peacock magician Westley!!!!
It’s not all easy at Blazing Academy though, the blazing horsemen seem to have taken a dislike to Alice and her men and things don’t go as planned at the end of semester exams.
Another fantastic book by Avery, so many questions and a cliff hanger that leaves you dying to know more, all I can say is Blazing Academy was worth the wait!!!!

Boring writing. Contradictory writing. Ex: ****My cultural background wasn't a big deal to me. It didn't deny who I was or give me some urge to learn where I came from. All I wanted was to fit in at school. To learn more about myself and my studies. Not deal with the daily drama and teasing over me being far too accident prone.***** Doesn’t matter, then important? All she did was whine the whole book. Geez couldn’t go on.
I wanted to read this book about Alice in Blazing academy ever since i read the first teaser last year. I am so happy i finally did. She is strong, funny and the interaction with the guys had me laughing so lound my dog got annoyed with me and started barking. I cant give this story enough stars, i loved it -blazing Alice was worth the wait.
Usually I enjoy Avery song’s work, but this? The level of crazy and poorly developed plot. This character is so deeply disturbed and bullied that her self esteem will hardly recover. It’s painful and confusing to read. I couldn’t get even through 20% it was just that awful.
Blazing Academy: Semester One is the first book in the Academy For All Things Scorching series by Avery Song.
Honestly, the writing and dialogue is 3🌟’s at most. It’s cliché, rushed, and occasionally trite. However, I’m intrigued by the characters and world building. This literary universe is not surprising or in any way uniquely outstanding. Nonetheless, it has captured and held my interest admirably.
Alice Blaze whines a lot. She’s somewhat repetitive and long-winded. And in all honesty I’m disappointed that she’s marketed as an intelligent 4.0 GPA holding, respectable teenager. (Superspecialsnowflake.) Because she comes across as vapid a staggering amount of the time, while somehow still showcasing her intellect and studious qualities. Maybe I’m being judgy and attempting to box in the assumed qualities of bookish/intellectual heroines. But I just don’t believe she’s been scripted to highlight her shining characteristics.
Gabriel, a.k.a. Angelic Asshole, is cute and brilliant. We’ve yet to unlock his hidden gooey center. Still only catching peeks into his unique inner goodness. Most of the time he’s deceptively defensive. But I think he’ll be so much fun later on when he comes out of his shell.
Keru, or Kereberus a.k.a. Kerby, is the goofy and inclusive one. Kind of shocking given his backstory. But since he grew up with Gabe I think these differences compliment their dynamic well. He still has his own scars and in some ways his outwardly continuously playful persona speaks of defensive behavior.
Westly is my fav thus far. He’s adorably sleepy and protective, while being so brilliant and intuitive. He’s the most contradictory character presented at this point. And he’s obviously Alice’s past lives lover. I adore him almost religiously.
Clara is hopefully going to open up this series later on. We’ve yet to truly experience Alice in a fully platonic relationship, and I have no doubt further depth in this area will help her grow. Cyrus, her familiar in another interesting addition to this tale. I wonder of her secrets and what she may be capable of once Alice truly understands and connects to her own power.
The Horseman in this book are honestly trivial and juvenile. I’m left wondering if they may escalate to ‘big bad’ status in the future. Damon is the only individually interesting character. He seems important in a way the other three seem like insipid small time villains. It hard to decipher his influence in the story as a whole. I just have a feeling he will become a key player at some point.
Who doesn’t love a good academy novel? I think I stumbled across these kinds of books after searching for something like Harry Potter but with a female lead, though it’s safe to say these aren’t anything like the HP universe. (The main difference being a lot of them end up as mature books for adult readers for one reason or another.)
This is an RH novel, though at the time I clicked into this book I wasn’t all that aware of the fact, which made for a lovely surprise. The plotline was decent enough, though I did struggle to finish this. I’m not entirely sure why, but I just didn’t have that burning desire nor the curiosity about what was going to unfold. It was… dull in that manner, which was why it was a bit of a slog to finish reading.
There was barely any information about the classes, nor enough description for my tastes – but I suppose I am pedantic about that fact – and I was still waiting for an explanation about how the magic system worked by the time the book ended.
I wasn’t too sure about the other academies mentioned – nor whether there was anything other than fire-lightning-wind based magic. Not to mention I found the description about the past and how blazing witches came to be rather confusing. The story behind it was supposed to be somewhat sad but I was confused, hence no tears from me. Not to mention all the heart-to-hearts which just didn’t fly with me. That was a major problem for me, since it felt like the characters were just reading from scripts.
That’s about it, though there’s one last thing which irked me enough to give this a two star rating and that was all the references. From Frozen to Cardcaptor Sakura, and it slowly started to drive me up the wall. I know of Frozen, yes, and I’ve heard of Cardcaptor Sakura but haven’t watched it. It would have been better to eradicate those references and put in actual description – because it came across as being rather lazy.
Sorry to say I won’t be reading the next book in the series.
Alice Blaze is a walking, talking torch that initially got kicked out of every school her grandmother enrolled her into. She is very smart, and always maintained a 4.0 GPA, it just seems that if there was an accident waiting to happen....Alice was always somewhere close to the accident and the fire department was on auto dial.
But as Alice is approaching her 16th birthday, she is determined that she is going to finally get her grandparents to recognize that she deserves to be homeschooled. But things take a different turn than Alice could have ever predicted and she is propelled into a world than she only found between the pages of one of her favorite books when she was younger! And what a fantastic ride Alice is set to take!
One of my favorite things about our author Avery Song is that once her characters get to the critical moments of discovering that the world in which they are living isn’t the only one out there, she doesn’t leave her FMC to moan and complain about the gifts that she has been blessed with. Instead Alice takes the approach that now her world finally makes sense. She embraces her new world and she finally is given the chance to make friends and start relationships that she never dreamed she would be able to.
Alice takes us on a journey of magic, strength, love and acceptance as she gracefully takes on the challenges that are constantly being thrown her way. She meets a group of men who help her through her new normal and help to support her and her thirst for knowledge with a caring and open acceptance that she has never had before.
If you are looking for a book that will capture your imagination and make you laugh, cry and pout when you get to that last page of the book....then this is the book for you! This is already starting out as an addictive series and I eagerly await the next book in the series.
Inspirational & Emotive Teen Magical Mystery & Drama!🙏😢💘💥 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) Blazing Academy: Semester One (Academy For All Things Scorching #1)
Alice is living with her Grandparents. They'd insisted on taking her in after her Dad became a severe alcoholic. Her Mum, their Daughter, walked out on Alice and her Dad, he never recovered!💔 Her relationship with her Dad is still very close, he's always loved & adored her, he just lost himself in his anger & grief! Her Gran can't stand him though & does everything to stop him seeing her!😡
There's something different about Alice. Fires spontaneously start around her. She's badly bullied & constantly gets excluded from one school to the next!😢 She's been begging her Gran to be home schooled, as she feels so unworthy, unwelcome & out of step with everyone else. Her Gran never takes her concerns seriously though!😢 There's one final incident four days after starting her newest school. It leads her Head Teacher to calling her Dad and Gran in. She tells them straight, Alice won't survive in 'normal' school anymore. She's going to die if she isn't helped asap. Her Gran finally relents, especially once her Dad puts his foot down - hard!!👍 Alice ends up at Blazing Academy where she learns that she has fire magic & she's not alone!🙏 She's partnered with Gabriel, Keru & Westly, three strong magic users & her protectors, appointed by her Dad!!😍
I loved the camaraderie of this group. The growing bonds & relationships are wonderful for Alice's wounded heart. The bullying continues but having the back up friends & understanding her differences helps her greatly!!🙏 There is a much larger arc going on that hasn't really been explored yet, it revolves around her Mum!!😲💥 I'm looking forward to reading book #2 on its release at the end of July.🎉
Wowee!!! My head is STILL spinning after that brilliant introduction to another new series by the great Avery Song!!!! In true form, at the center of the tale is a brilliant female learning her true strength; full of compassion, love, justice and clarity. Alice Blaze just needs the insight to believe all these internal traits. Raised by an alcoholic father adores her ate her mother abandoned her, at some point her grandparents took over raising her. Determined not to repeat the same mistakes they made with her mother, instead they became truly blinded to the daily pain and ridicule she endured each day at school. Alice was constantly blamed for everything that happened, or for any reason causing her to change schools again. Poor Alice felt isolated and lonely. It was hard enough running hot all the time, and feeling out of place. Until the day everything changed. One more bully decides to go after Alice for no reason, yet *this* time HE would be surprised.....and so would Alice once she learned what took place. That was the day Alice started yet another new school at BLAZING ACADEMY and met her new "family" which consisted of a few very hot guys who truly understood her. Follow Alice and her guys as she begins to learn the truth behind both her history and what's going on at this fiery school. Always tons of adventure and suspense, magical events, and definitely some secrets and intrigue. This book doesn't have a boring bit in it anywhere!.I can't wait to see what happens next, especially after that shocker of an ending!!!
So after reading SSS academy Series while waiting for the seventh book to come out in November I knew I had to read another series by this author. I chose the series and was pleasantly surprised, although at the same time a little disappointing to say the least. I only say disappointed because of the certain aspects of the book that almost are parallel to the prior series that I had finished, while at the same time I say intrigued and pleasantly surprised due to the fact that I almost believe the two series are meant to be or will be connected at some point. This book is a little less romance but a little more fantasy it’s more made for young adults versus adults looking for a RH series. I am now in book 3 of the series and there has had to be any “steamy “sexually explicit scenes, We’re in the SSS series there was many throughout the entire six books that I read it so it’s less of a reverse harem Buck and more a young adult in my opinion. However, the entire series that’s far has been very well written and intriguing especially for a female character heroin with multiple male companions. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone series that they finish especially if you want something fresh and new, however I would suggest that you read the SSS Academy series 1st before reading this.
Alice Blaze is not your typical teenager, with her red hair, red eyes, height and oh yah, her propensity to unwittingly start fires. It was the affinity for combustion that saw her switching schools time and time again. To make matters worse her mother left shortly after her birth, her father is an alcoholic and she has been raised by her grandparent. The day of her sixteenth birthday, all the windows in her school exploded inward, getting her expelled once again. It is then that hope comes, in the form of an invitation to attention Blazing Academy.
This is the first book in the Blazing Academy series, an Academy for all things scorching. The book is from the point of view of Alice and the narrative slows access to her thoughts and feels as well as giving great descriptions of the setting in which the story is taking place. The characters are well crafted, interesting, complete with strengths and flaws. I read the Midnight Academy box set so I only had the first seven chapters. As a result I can’t comment on the complete book. I enjoyed what I have read so far and look forward to reading more in this series.
Blazing Academy was one heck of a wild ride. We meet Alice, cute girl, quirky personality, randomly sets things on fire. You know, the best friend everyone wants! Too bad her jerk normal schools can't see that!
After being relentlessly tormented, Alice finally gets the chance she's been dreaming of, acceptance into an Academy that it perfect for her. She's sent 3 gorgeously different men to learn with and protect her. And man, do the sparks fly!!
After overcoming every obstacle, tolerating horrible bullying, kicking academic butt, and starting the beginnings of an epic romance, Alice gets thrown further through the ringer with crazy challenge after crazy challenge. Can she get her power together to find her happy ending? I sure hope so because I adored everything about this sweet sixteen year old. She has a lot of growing to do, but she's got a dynamic set of people around her, and an incredibly imaginative writer telling her story. All in all, it was a very fun way to escape from the world for a bit. I loved it!
What a book!!! Alice Blaze lives a normal life. If by normal you mean being raised by your grandparents because your dad is an alcoholic due to your mom leaving just after giving birth of you. Then there is the school thing. She never makes it at a school more than six months, most time no more than six day. Weird things happen which is why she is known as Blazing Alice instead of her real name Alice Blaze. After an incident at her latest school where after being bullied by a boy named Rick and attacked by him, all the windows just happens to blow out of the whole school and he flies away from her and breaks some bones. Alice then transfers to a school called Blazing Academy and learns she possesses 4 kinds of magical fire. Her dad has 3 boys close to her age protecting her. Did I mention she's only 16 and this is a college? She's super smart. Definitely making its way to one of my favorite series!!
I really liked this book! Good story, funny and hot guys;)
We start off with the cliffhanger from the first book! Now Alice and her guys need to figure out who and what is behind this. The people who have raided her are not who she thought they were. A lot of things come to light, awful things she would never have thought about the people who raised her. She has to fight to be able to move forward with her destiny.
Now that they are the new Blazing Horsemen at school, they get some nice perks at school including two assistants Clara and Damon. I really liked that we got to know more about Alice, her parents, grandparents and how much she has in common with Brianne. Alice now knows that there’s an evil organization after her, they want her to join them or they’ll kill her.
I really like how these books (Tracker Hive, SSS and Witchling Academy) are connected! I can’t wait to find out more about this new girl Alicia and to continue Alices adventure as well!

I am still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor after that cliffhanger!
*Slight spoilers*
The story really is quite something. Different and filled with so much intrigue and mysteries. The characters really make this all the better. Though, I am still questioning so much. Like this Damon guy and his intentions. He was the mysterious one in all this and still unsure where that leaves him. I know the story in the story mentions a goddess and her practically creating the four horsemen--focus on the FOUR part. Yet Alice only has 3 guys and the mention of being the 'four horsemen' include her? But would that Damon guy be considered in this? Then again my little Westley said he was not ok with any other guys joining their little group. I am probably giving so much away here, but these are some serious question I want answers to. Either way, I enjoyed this and can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
The lore that was established was breath-takingly beautiful, the depth of character in each of the main four was admirable, too. Even the secondary characters, tbh.
However, I feel like too much was told and not shown. The skipping timeline starting towards the end was weird and unpleasant because the rest of the timeline was consecutive which to me feels off-putting. I'm trying to write a lot off because it's book one in a series, so it sets the pace and establishes a lot of the information... but a lot was dragging and then too fast. She suddenly could wield a vast amount of magic after not really doing it purposely in the entire book? Why?? And then Westley said they were all reborn.... after not a single time anything like that even being hinted at? I feel like these were meant to be curveballs... but it just came off odd and not well executed. Also... I hate the nicknames. Stop using blazing in every other sentence. Seriously.

Avery Song has really developed a unique and intriguing world with this new series. Alice is an interesting character and at times I find it hard to believe that she is 16, then at times she opens her mouth and I remember she is still young. But she has a lot of spirit and I think it is going to be really entertaining to witness her growing older, and to witness get relationships with those around her develop further!
What was engrossing about this book was the characters that surround Alice...her dad, her grandmother, the guys and those at the school. These diverse characters really bring out the best and the worst in Alice and in those around her!
But come on...cliffhanger 😳 how do I wait for book two when I just wanted to keep reading and reading. Avery Song initially released this up to chapter 7 and has since developed the story further and she did an outstanding job of really captivating me and making me completely invested in the characters and fully engrossed in the drama that unfolds in front of your eyes! This is a book that is full of twists and turns, drama, sadness, laughs and compelling characters. Bring on book two!
There is only one thing I can say about this book "It's Hot, Hot, Hot!". Blazing is definitely a great word to describe this book and continues Avery's streak of amazing books released.
While this book is actually an extended version of a book that she released as a novella, it is actually way better. Our introduction to Alice and her men is unique and exciting. This blazing world is different then some of the other worlds we've had and still intertwines with those others as well. I truly enjoyed getting to know the beginnings of these characters and diving in to their mysteries.
I truly admit that the cliffhanger in this book threw me. I wasn't sure what to expect and I definitely didn't expect that. I definitely can't wait until the next book comes out. I'm super excited for this series and the intertwining series' with it.
This story was surprisingly low angst. The heroine and Keru are both the sort of characters you want to hug. I suspect the other characters will have sob stories too, we just haven't heard them yet. I really enjoyed the story, except I don't like harem romances, and this turned into a very low-key one (no sex yet).
Conflict: there is a bully, but he doesn't seem like much of a challenge. School doesn't seem like much of a challenge, either. The dramatic events at the end come out of nowhere. The reader is mostly drawn along by the romance(s) and mysteries, none of which are revealed in this first book.
There are some minor spelling and grammar problems, which made the book occasionally difficult to read.
I mostly enjoyed the story, but won't be reading the next one, mostly because harems bug me, but also because the heroine is too overpowered for me.
Very annoying world building, dialogue and inner dialogue. I might have enjoyed this when I was younger (teens). The writing is odd. A lot of descriptions and inner monologue become tedious. The dialogue doesnt flow as well as it could. The world building is somewhat 2D, maybe even childlike. I would classify this book as a young YA (like preteens) or YA for those who are new to supernatural books.
This one read like the author had a visual idea of the world building, but was unable to describe if subtly and accurately enough.
Lastly, way too many real-world references. Not only does it date the book, but it completely kicks you out of the story and it becomes difficult to get back into it.
DNF at 36% - unfortunately a 1-star read for me. What am I reading in this book?! I was intrigued by the buildup at first, getting insight into the FMC an what‘s going on around her, but from the moment the more supernatural aspects started being incorporated, I felt like I was reading a crack fic written by a teen on fanfic.net. I would have loved to explore the plotline more, but the more than juvenile wording anf writing style, the weird constant real-world references and spells seemingly directly taken from any magical kids show just made it impossible to sit through. I am a bit suprised, I have read other books by this author before (loved the Supernatural Captivity series) and actually liked the writing in those.
Sixteen year old Alice Blaze is relentlessly bullied at every school she attends because of her habit to accidentally cause fires. With no one who truly understands her Alice starts to loose hope, until she receives an invitation to Blazing Academy. Filled with fiery people just like her, and being protected by 3 gorgeous guys, she has finally found her place in the world. Over her first semester she studies hard, gets a boyfriend or 3, and by the end of the semester life as she knows it will never be the same. Left with a huge cliff hanger I can honestly say that I cannot wait until semester 2 comes out!
I fell in love with Alice when I read the short version of this in the anthology but the whole story is so so much better!!! Alice has transferred schools way too many times after some sort of incident with fire happens every time. She gets totally fed up with this after a new incident getting her grandparents to agree to home school. That is I til an early acceptance letter to Blazing Academy arrives changing her life as she knows it. In a very good way too. A fascinating first semester that has me totally hooked and ready for book two. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
I LOVE Alice! I love how she describes Westley, Gabriel, & Kerv to Clara, Rick, & Eliza. It really shows how the bond is growing over the time that we don't see them. I love watching them come together and protect Alice. I love the innocence that Alice has as well as the down to earth, I don't give a fudge and don't mess with me vibe that she gives off. Watching her blossom into this headstrong woman whom knows what she wants in life and is willing to do anything to achieve the goal, is just touching. Cannot wait for book two to come out.
Alice Blaze hasn't had the easiest start to life. By 16, her mother had abandoned her, her father was constantly drunk, she lives with her grandparents and doesn't seem to fit in. But everything changes on her 16th birthday. She finds out she's anything but ordinary. Leaving the regular world behind she sets off to discover more about her newly discovered powers at her new school, Blazing Academy. There to help her along the way are her three knights in shinning armor. But because she's at a new school doesn't mean old rivals stayed away. Alice's first semester has many twists and turns! Also hold on to your seats because that ending is going to have you scrambling for the next book!
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting and well developed. I cannot wait to see the details of Alice’s mother and this 1st goddess or blazing witch. I love that the other characters are very helpful and supportive of the main character. The relationship dynamics make sense and flow to create a good basis for the story. The words and plot development hook you in at the right time to keep your interest as you ready. At no time was I ready to put this book down. I highly recommend that you read this book.
DNF - quit at 15% This book just didn't pull me in, or make me care about the characters. The first 15% moved so slowly, & was so depressing, I couldn't keep reading, & ended up surfing the internet all day to avoid reading. That's when I knew it was time to quit. This is my opinion, others might like the book.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
