Welcome to Paranormal Academy, a boarding school for the world's most elite witches, fairies, vampires, shifters, and other paranormal beings.

At the Academy, there are five rules everyone should follow:
1. Don't go out after curfew.
2. Stay away from the Vixen, the school's secret sorority.
3. Never go into the Enchanted Forest alone.
4. Professors are completely off-limits.
5. Don't get involved with dark magic users.

Well, rules are meant to be broken.

Juliana Montgomery quickly finds herself breaking every rule in the book, but that's the least of her worries.

She never expected to receive an invitation to Paranormal Academy because she's pretty sure there's nothing magical about her. But it turns out she's wrong. No one knows what her paranormal race is, but Juliana comes from a paranormal bloodline so powerful that everyone at the Academy is talking about her.

The Academy is also filled with gorgeous guys. There's Brett Summers, whose girlfriend is convinced Juliana wants him. (And, okay, maybe she's right). Then there's Kaden, the guy who makes Juliana's heart beat faster, even though he's carrying a deep, dark secret that she's dying to find out. And last, but certainly not least, there's her Elemental Magic professor, Avery Tate. Sparks--literally--fly between them.

Then there are the murders that have been taking place on campus, which seem to be more frequent since Juliana's arrival. Is it a coincidence or is she somehow linked to these deaths?

Juliana's anxious to learn the truth about what she is. Someone else already knows. Someone who's planning to use it against her. Someone who's a lot closer than she thinks.

Magic 101 is the first book in a paranormal academy series. Despite multiple love interests, this is NOT a Reverse Harem series.

This is a very amateur effort.
I have previously read a book by Jody which also fell flat.
There is nothing very exciting and almost all the interactions between the characters are forced and lacking any lustre.

Let me review this book against the blurb.
"Welcome to Paranormal Academy, a boarding school for the world's most elite witches, fairies, vampires, shifters, and other paranormal beings.
Review: You dont meet many of them in this book. And they are a sorry bunch who cannot even secure the academy against attacking raven shifters. Also if all the world's elite people are here, you have to wonder who runs their world.

At the Academy, there are five rules everyone should follow:
1. Don't go out after curfew.

This one and the one for enchanted forest is just for some forced excitement. May be Jody got excited by the forbidden forest theme from Harry Potter.
2. Stay away from the Vixen, the school's secret sorority. Which apparently has a single bi-yatchy member who struggles to carry out her 'mean girls' persona against an even bigger b-it-ch i.e. the heroine. You actually start sympathising with Everly once you read about how blatantly Juliana encourages Brett, Everly's shi-tty bf to flirt with her. We don't meet any other members, in spite of being very elitist sorority filled with 'powerful' members.

3. Never go into the Enchanted Forest alone. YAWNNNN...
4. Professors are completely off-limits. Just added to give some excitement to the non-romance between Avery the hot prof and heroine. Jody tries to make their first kissing scene (which happens within 2 days of their meeting) exciting by adding literal sparks. But it is still amazingly boring.
5. Don't get involved with dark magic users. So this academy has a dark magic student group. They are castigated as 'evil' (anything dark is of course Evil).
But they are allowed to be at academy and one of their scions, Kaden is allowed to mingle with everyone, even escort their star student Juliana to the dance. So why this rule?
Also if you know a set of kids are going to turn out bad, why dont you do something about it????

To wrap up this boring spiel, Juliana turns out to be the special cookie - the ONE, the most powerful paranormal ever, who was apparently left ignorant of her situation by her grandma.
I am sure there will be more drama with her mom, her family, her mates situation and all.

But the whole thing is packaged in such a boring interaction-wrap that it is hard to get interested in this already cliched mashup.

Overall - if youre brand new into YA you may like it.

Well, rules are meant to be broken. "

This was definitely an interesting introduction to the series. I was drawn into this world of paranormals immediately. Juliana is a walking contradiction. I am really curious about her skills especially after Everly's reveal. Overall and interesting start and I am curious as to where the author will take this series.

I have been looking for a good magic school series. This clearly is not it. Juliana, the first person narrator, receives an invitation to magic school even though she thought she did not have any magic.
Once she arrive at Paranormal Academy she learns she comes from a family of powerful witches but the Academy cannot figure out what type of paranormal she is since her grandfather was a powerful werewolf.

The focus on "hot guys" is almost embarrassing even for a book aimed at a YA audience. There's an element of mystery as the previous occupant of her dorm had been murdered. And there is something strange going on with the headmaster. Unfortunately, very little gets resolved and the book ends with a setup for the next book.

Book 1

This book was the most boring RH book I've ever read. Juliana was meh and the cast of supporting characters as well. Brett is irritating on many levels. Avery is gross. Kaden is not fully developed. Everly is the one character I have any feel for and it's not wnough. 1 star, not continuing.

this girl is a mess

Seriously, the story line is interesting but this whole whining about the guys thing is terrible. She can’t make a decision on her own. She listens to gossip to make decisions and lets her imagination rule her.

I guess she is technically a teenager but really, teens are rebellious and she’s just ignorant. She can’t like Kayden because of what he is? She still pants after Brett even though he’s wishywashy. This thing about blood freaks her out more than anything else going on? She gossips about everything. The whole school is shady as he11.

I dunno, I guess this book is written for teens. Like 14 year olds. Maybe they can relate better. I won’t be continuing the series.

ok. my breaking point was her only talking to Kaden 3-4 times, regular conversation, and no big build up emotionally, and she thinks: "who is the guy ive fallen so hard for?"

like... really? like if thats the direction your going, for insta love/lust and mates etc, you need more mental yearning. you need the whole 'I could feel him watching... like an invisible thread between us... blah blah blah" to then talk about falling for them that quickly.

it was straight up: ooh Kaden. is he a bad guy? who cares. nice to meet you. we have a class together! he saves me from a freak attack and I ponder about my love for him.

yup DNF

Eh. Don't waste your money

It feels like a first draft. Incomplete characters, lovestory missing parts to get good. Random things happening out of the blue that makes no sense. Since the whole storyline is missing good chunks of pages to be good. I stuck to the book hoping it got better, it
didn't. This whole book got potential. If rewritten that is.

terrible

The premise is poorly thought through and the writing is terrible and choppy. The storyline doesn’t flow at all. I had to force myself to finish this book because it was so poorly written. I will not be reading the rest of this series.

Enter the world of the Paranormal Academy, where all the students live and learn in separate houses based on their paranormal race. The House of Crimson is designated for Vampires, the House of Water accommodates aquatic beings, shifters reside in the House of Were, good magic users are placed in the House of Mage, and practitioners of dark magic belong to the House of Darkness.

Juliana Montgomery thought she didn't have any powers. So, she was surprised when she was invited to the boarding school. Her placement in the House of Mage was determined by Headmaster Crane, who remains uncertain which house she truly belongs to due to her mixed bloodlines. By the end of the story, they are still trying to figure out and do more tests.

the Vixen: will they end up being friends or foes? Where does the pink glow portal lead to? What about the mission outside the academy that the Headmaster Crane is about to send her to? What's the purpose? I can't wait to figure it out.

I love the story so far, and what I enjoy most about this book is Juliana's slowly learning about her heritage and the powers that come with it. But when it comes to the mental blocking, I'm slightly confused when she suddenly was able to block Brett 🤔. When did she learn?

Wow, this was a painful read.

I wanted to give it one star, but the book is technically readable. But, boy oh boy it felt like a one star. The plot is so random, some things make no sense, the pacing is off, the dialogue is awful, the main character is just insufferable, the love interests suck, and the world building is even worse.

A few examples of what I mean:
- They use a questionnaire, and not even a good one, like one you would find on Buzzfeed, as part of the process of finding out a student’s paranormal race.
- They have no concrete way to tell what someone’s paranormal race is???? Like magic is supposed to be crazy powerful, but they don’t have any spells that can give you an answer
- The phrase “paranormal race” was used at least 100 times
- Everything was described as “paranormal” even stuff that was basically just normal stuff, i.e. “oh are there stores around here?” “Yeah, we’ve got paranormal stores” “Oh hey, there’s a dance coming up, right?” “Yeah, a paranormal dance.” I’m not even kidding, this is how they talk.
- Students are just sometimes abducted by giant flying monsters that feed on them for their magic flesh and nobody cares??? Like, even the faculty shrugs and says, “what can we do?” Even the supposedly most powerful magic users and shifters.
- The book makes a huge deal about vampires and how hot they are, and then we never have a single vampire character
- All werewolves are telepathic??? And this plot point is picked up only when it’s inconvenient to the MC, otherwise it’s totally ignored, and like in this “paranormal world” nobody has come up with a good way to shield their thoughts.
- There’s like some sort of fucked up racism towards “dark” Magic users, otherwise known as Warlocks. Students aren’t even allowed to date or hangout with the Warlocks, even though they are also students, but they are segregated to the Warlock tower or whatever. But the only real discernible difference between Witches and Warlocks seems to be that Warlocks have “dark” magic but they never really explain what that means and why that makes them apparently an entirely separate species to Witches, especially considering they mention that it’s the intention behind the magic that matters, not the magic itself. So, like an entire race/species(?) of pretty much humans with slightly different magic are discriminated against and told not to be associated with.

Honestly I could go all day with my complaints, but I don’t want to waste any more of my time on this awful book. Save yourself the trouble and skip this series. Unless you are 14, in which case you will love this.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. Welcome to Paranormal Academy, a boarding school for the world’s most elite witches, fairies, vampires, shifters, and other paranormal beings. At the Academy, there are five rules everyone should follow, don’t go out after curfew, stay away from the Vixen, the school’s secret sorority, never go into the Enchanted Forest alone, professors are completely off-limits, and don’t get involved with dark magic users. Juliana Montgomery quickly finds herself breaking every rule in the book, but that’s the least of her worries. She’s anxious to learn the truth about what she is, someone else already knows, who’s planning to use it against her and who’s a lot closer than she thinks. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.

Paranormal Academy Book 1: Magic 101

Paranormal Academy Book 1: Magic 101 kicks off the Paranormal Academy series with an exciting new twist on the supernatural school genre. This time, readers are introduced to a world where witches, shifters, vampires, and other paranormals train side by side at a secretive, elite academy. The story follows a young witch who, after an unexpected event, is admitted into this hidden school and quickly finds herself caught between mystery, magic, and complicated relationships.

The tone of this book is fun, mysterious, and layered with that classic academy-style drama that fans of Jayme and Jody Morse have come to expect. There’s a strong focus on self-discovery, friendships, navigating rivalries, and uncovering secrets—all while learning how to control powers in a new, often dangerous, environment.

While there are hints of romance and attraction, Magic 101 keeps the spotlight on the main character’s journey and the bigger forces at play. The pacing is fast and easy to get into, with just enough world-building to keep you curious for more. Definitely recommend this book
If you enjoy magical school settings, multiple supernatural factions, and characters finding their place in a new world, Magic 101 is a solid and entertaining start. It’s perfect for fans of The Vampire Diaries, Legacies, or Hex Hall—with a strong female lead and plenty of supernatural intrigue.

Not sure how to rate this

The plot is a five star rating without a doubt. But the story itself is lacking. It felt incredibly rushed. Not very detailed. I had to go back a couple times and reread. One of the charters name got changed to his last name mid story which really confused me. His name was Corbin Connor and halfway through he was just Connor. His brother referred to him as Connor which I found odd. There are a few phrases that are used excessively. There are a few aspects that I find bizarre, such as the raven shifters that just swoop down and take students to their death and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people who really care about it including teachers. They all just stand around and kind of watch it happen and don’t react. The main character is irritating with the guys she likes. She doesn’t know who she likes. But the next paragraph she’s head over heels for them. It’s all a bit confusing but the plot is good enough that I’ll go to read the second one and hope for a better and more detailed explanation.

only made it 75%

I tried to finish I really did. The idea behind the book was interesting. Obviously many people liked it per reviews. I can’t give a one star review unless it’s unreadable which this is not. But I felt like it was clunky and didn’t flow. Conversations were awkward and unrealistic. People don’t just abruptly say things and then no one react to them. One other thing is the random language - not only do I not like it, it was dropped in random spots and not needed at all. It didn’t even really fit. Although, that being said. I read the last 10% of the last book to see who she’s ended up with. I didn’t like the insta live with 3 guys either- makes everything less in my opinion. But still wanted to know which one- I have closure issues. Even only reading 10% i understood the comments of a frustrating ending. But I did find my answer. For those that like this writing style I truly hope you enjoy, I know these ladies worked hard on it, but it just wasn’t for me.

Wow, What an Exciting Ride !!!

I have read a lot of Paranormal Academy Series and this one is one of the BEST. It has its scary moments, Very Romantic moments and the other what the HECK was that moments. Something evil is lurking around the campus and it's up to a scared freshman to help figure out what is going on before the you know what hits the fan so to speak... Who can she trust to help her save the future of the Academy and the lives of her friends and fellow students ? She has been alone for all of her life with no one to be on her side. The Time is fast approaching to put all of her faith and trust into mostly strangers, Some who could be her enemies out to put an end to her future. I can hardly wait to start reading the next book in this wonderful journey into the unknown. Do yourself a favour and click above to join in on the fun and excitement that's sure to be waiting for us in the next book...

Gimme more.

This was a fun, fast paced read. I liked the characters quite a bit. They were relatable and not bullies (thank God), so it was a nice change of pace from my recent Academy book choices.

There was an interesting element of mystery in regards to Juli’s paranormal designation. Her seemingly powerful magic has the campus in a gossip tizzy, and although she is well liked, by most, you know there will be the obligatory mean girl, and that’s Everly. She’s not as mean as 90% of the girls I’ve seen in other books, but she has the potential to get there considering her obsessive attachment to Brett.

Anyhoo, I had a lot of fun reading this, and I’m definitely interested in picking up the next book.

3.75 stars ⭐️ (cause Spike and Max are adorable)

A cute and charming book with solid pacing

This book has a lot of charm to it. It has recognizable magical elements, which have some unique twists. None of the world building is extraordinarily complex or detailed, but it is a world that makes sense, moves the plot forward and has elements from different magical worlds and ideas that are mixed into a charming world.

The plot was also not novel, but the pacing was solid, the mystery was intriguing and the main characters were likeable, the villains unlikeable. I will be continuing the series to see where it goes.

Got sucked in from the start!

Super easy read. It hooked me from the beginning and there is so many questions left unanswered. I love that this is not a reverse harem yet there are multiple love interests. I have an idea of who she'll end up with but we shall see. I would like to see her come into her powers a little more and it's so nice to read a paranormal romance that's clean and not riddled with grammar mistakes! On with book 2!

I might be in my ya fantasy era I've never once had lol
I wasn't into paranormal books or fantasy books when I was in middle school (I didn't read twilight don't be mad at me) and I think this just got me hooked on the whole genre
This is NOT a well-written, 'good' book by ANY means. The worldbuilding is very amateur, and it is a lil sterotypical at times. But it really does something to my inner child. currently reading the second instalment.

Great series

Really enjoyed this series. I did get a little confused when Juliana was blocked from using her magic or unable to break through a spell someone was using against her since she was supposed to be the most powerful paranormal alive. Loved the way Everly evolved throughout the series. The girls were such good friends. It was fun to watch their friendship grow. I highly recommend this series.

Fabulous start!!

This was a fabulous start to a series I will be reading. I loved how it was a school for everything paranormal and there was this mystery as to what Juliana’s race is. My guess is she has a little bit of everything in her. I also feel she will have a harem at the end of all this. I mean three guys and three different races and she wants them all. I am hooked and ready to get on to book two.

This book started off fast , it doesn’t take long for action to take place . I didn’t need to wait for a shocking discovery or a wonderful twist . They were around every corner.
I didn’t put this book down once and I am slowly falling in love with every book written by these wonderful women .

Good book with a running mystery that we get little clues about sprinkled throughout the book. Several possible love interests; thank goodness she doesn't jump into bed with them willy nilly. Looking forward to reading the next book.
