Mayah, Grax, and Margaret, better known as The Royal Death Claws, have just entered the prize dungeon they won in the paladin’s tournament. Now they just have to survive in the bowels of a sprawling, massive underground world filled with dangers around every corner, and under every leaf. It’s a gamers paradise, but there’s one small problem. Our tiny heroine, Pretty Princess Cuddle Fluff, is still stuck in the expansive VR game world of Majesta. It isn’t half bad until Grax and Margaret log out and she gets reminded that her life is on the line. With her logout button inoperable and a malicious AI searching for her in-game, she’s struggling to get as strong as possible to survive the inevitable clash for her survival. Because in the dungeon her chances of dying have just risen significantly. This novel contains big hammers, cats, enchanting, snark, grenades, necromancy, leveling, fetch quests, beeps and boops, misunderstandings of the deadliest kind, olfactory and gustatory offenses, grandmothers, Evil sentient computer viruses, truces, crafting, duels, getting gear, friendship, Happiness and sweet, sweet XP. Safe for the kids. Great for the adults. This book Is: GameLit / LitRPG and contains very visible RPG, video game mechanics, and fights that are integral to the story. No blood or cursing, though. Style: serial slice of life.
The author made a bad choice, bringing the brother’s tale into this novel. It creates three separate story lines. In my opinion, there should have been only two.
MC1 and her Nemesis can support separate narratives because they have already established the in-game connection. Having them travel separately while progressing through levels makes sense. MC2 (brother to MC1), however, never meets either MC1 or Nemesis. Even thought the familial relationship exists, without an actual moment together his story feels detached. They didn’t even exchange messages.
Without knowing what happens in the next novel, I feel strongly that MC2’s entire story should have been placed there.
Otherwise, a lot of crafting and some good dungeoning. I will continue with the series.
The main character and her team go through a long dungeon slog that seems to be mostly a holding pattern, while he brother gets a lot more air time as he develops and grows with his team.
Intertwining story threads from the main character and her brother, plus some other threads, means that you have to pause at good places (or just power through :-).
Some minor editing gaffs that seems to be a hallmark of self-published work.
The Majesta series is a shining example of what LitRPG can be when you take a step past the lowest common denominator of juvenile male fantasy and step up to more life affirming stories of how Games can build friendship and make us better people... Oh yeah and it's full of thrilling fight, big laughs, and horrible puns too.
This sequel delivers two fabulous stories. One involving cupcake shenanigans in a dungeon (fans of taming, crafting, and dungeon crawling: here there be fun!) and one involving deadly chickens and the best good-hearted murderous bunch that’ll train your peepers and plates! Looking forward to the next installment!
I like the plot, and the mechanics were well done, but the improper capitalization, missing commas, and missed quotation marks were frustrating. Fix these and it would be a major improvement.
Great Series! Looking forward to Vol. 3 Great writing. Litrpg. Loving the storyline and characters. Spoiler . . . Wish there was a little more detail on the temple, but if it’s covered in shadows, probably not gonna see much at all. Lol
Love your humour and writing style, Taj, but spelling, typos and grammatical errors littering the text is annoying and distracting. You want more stars? Earn them - engage with a decent editing team and clean up your story.
This book has a really good story, but it still needs a lot of editing. The random capitalization and punctuation made it really hard to flow with the story.
Taj McCoy El takes us back to the adventures of our pint sized heroine in Ruins of Majesta: Volume 2.1 Creatures and Cupcakes. Great series and one of the best for the younger readers.
Great follow up to first book. I'm so interested in other characters who may have to stay in game. Love how kids become aware of issues and resolve them.
What punctuation, etcetera, problems? Nothing that disrupted my reading experience. I enjoyed the continuation of Mayah's story. 😸
A request for reviewers: Please don't include technical, editing, grammar, etcetera in your ratings assignment. Reasons? Indie authors generally have small to non-existent editorial budgets. New authors haven't set up beta readers. Those lowered ratings really hurt, as in do a LOT of damage. You can still comment about problems. Or, better yet, contact the author outside of the review. The biggest reason is because authors fix the problems when they become aware of them, so those 'techniques critical' reviews are no longer relevant, but the ratings remain unrevised.
I'm not sure if it's because I tend to skim read or it's been awhile since I've read the first book but I struggled following some of Mayah's crafting antics in this book. I probably would have left this review at 3 stars had it not been for the Authors words at the end. This book was about Mo and the knockers with a splash of Mayah and real world included. Mo's arc was much more story immersive and less mechanically heavy than our resident genius and her sassy cat. I'm still excited to continue thr adventures of Fluff and hope to see her spread some happiness. One way or another.
Very nice sequel. I love how the story is progressing and becoming more complex. The leveling and crafting is upgrading in creative and awesome ways. My only complaint it the parts with the virus just because it didnt go anywhere but I'm sure it will. Felt a little more like a 1.5 book but well see were it goes from here. I'm sure it will be cuptastic.
I was so excited to see this book pop up on Amazon! The characters are very relatable and fleshed out. The dialogue was enjoyable and the storytelling top-notch. Now I cannot wait for part two of the sequel!
