Somehow, everything I liked about the first volume just disappears here as the story gets bogged down into long boring sequences about setting up a cosmetic company, gets mired in court intrigue, and sinks into an out-of-nowhere plot about a real estate deal that involves a previously sympathetic character trafficking slaves (whaaaat?). Poor transitions and loopy or opaque dialogue frequently left me lost and adrift in what was supposed to be happening.
Very disappointing. I'm not sure I'll bother with the next volume if my library gets it.
If I could, I would give this GLOWING 10 out of 10 stars!
I feel this is peak fiction for the villainess isekai/otome game genre and just absolutely blown away at how original this story is! Truly, this second volume swept me off my feet in how unpredictable and fun it was!
I loved the "lackeys" at the beginning and absolutely love Isaac! He is a fun character and would have no qualms against him and Aileen ever being a thing, but that's also part of his charm because him and Aileen make an excellent team!
THOSE TURN OF EVENTS WITH THAT ONE CHARACTER!!!! I CAN'T EVEN!!!! I NEVER expected that and I MUST find a friend who has read this series and talk spoilers because that was something I never expected! The gears are broken and everything is up in the air! (I had to literally take a break right before that final chapter to let my brain process everything!)
The "romance" between our main leads is SO good! Slow burn and just hoping that this manga WILL end on a happy note because I really don't know what is going to happen, but I NEED this ship to sail! (King Claude is just so soft!! <3)
I LOVE everything about this series and just head over heels about it! One I'm definitely going to have recommend to a lot more people because it is a must read!
I do enjoy this series. How Aileen has everyone dancing to her tune is nothing short of amazing. Yes, she knows how the game goes, but she still has to strategize and make things work the way she wants to. I wish I could do that…at least at work! 😅
The cliffhanger ending was AAAAHHH!!! But I have the third volume and I read the light novel already, so it wasn’t too bad for me.
4, onto the next, stars!

Oh Keith, what have you done. Aileen showing them whose boss and Cedric wanting her just because. Too little too late. The heroine showing her true colours and things looking to take a dark turn. I love the little shadow corridor and how cute all the little demons are. The weather being tied to Claude's emotions was hilarious.

I don't feel super strongly about this series, the story seemed like a neat idea at first but now I realize I'm not really thrilled by it. The guy is charming enough, not completely my type but I'm glad he's actually nice and clearly has feelings for the protagonist, it's cute. It just kind of sucks that the female lead isn't what I want from a protagonist in a romance story. I'm happy for her as a character that's taking a strong prerogative in the narrative, but it seems like she's going to need time to discover and explore her real feelings, after the core "marriage of convenience" story progresses far too long. Which makes it hard for her to be a satisfying reader stand-in for me, because she's not going to actually get with the cute guy that likes her until the end of the series or something. (Also this isn't BL, and everything romance is better when it's BL!)
Irene and Lilia the holy madien is not holding back. Lilia is also from the other world and doesn’t seem to be anything holy. She is sneaky and pretty crazy in her thoughts of being the heroine. She has an entity lied air about her until Irene knock her down a few pegs. Cedric is an idiot who needs to be taken down a peg as well. And he is! Irene holds nothing back. The Demon King Claude and Irene have swoon worthy moments.
The obligatory "the heroine isn't what she appears!" trope - I do enjoy when both the heroine and the Villainess are reincarnated. To be an otome heroine you really do need to be REALLY self-centered you know? Meanwhile Aileen continues to be the most clever person to be so oblivious.
The first volume was packed full of tropes and had a hard time escaping or subverting them, and the execution of the tropes themselves was mediocre. Since the characters themselves were tropes (which is integral to trope-subverting stories like these otome isekais), they ended up feeling one-dimensional. There was a lot of promise, but not much payoff. The pacing was well done and the art was good, and the story had enough potential that I picked up the second volume. I'm glad I did.
In the second volume, the story came into its own. The tropes that had been established in the first volume were neatly subverted or wielded for the story's own ends; the characters developed and grew more dimensional; several extremely likable minor characters got a lot more screen time (and their presence gave more context and nuance to the main characters); the antagonist revealed an actual motive (rather than just being excessively and pointlessly evil, as is often the case); and the plot was taut and page-turning.
The third volume was even better, with some twists I didn't anticipate (and given my knowledge of story structure as a writer and editor, in addition to my vast reading experience with manga and its tropes, I don't get caught off guard very often). The final conflict, rather than being gaudily violent in an attempt to be epic, fit the tone and motivations of the characters and concluded in a very satisfying way. The plot threads came together, and I don't think it's truly spoilers to say that we got a happy ending. The extra chapters at the end were pure fluffy goodness and added a pleasant resolution.
All in all, this series is a worthy contribution to the otome isekai genre.
Volume 1: 2.5 stars rounded up Volume 2: 3.5 stars rounded up Volume 3: 4 stars
Excelente pregunta, aún no sé.
In the past volume Aileen makes a deal with the Demon Lord to have him escort her to her ex's, prince Cedric's engagement party where she will be forced to sign the papers officially ending her engagement to him. She knows he's going to take the opportunity to try and drag her through the mud, so she takes steps to circumvent the false accusations of her writing threatening letters to his new 'love' as well as trying to make enough money to pay her father back for all the financial losses he 'suffered' when her engagement falls apart.
Some interesting info is fully revealed about the heroine, who tries to use her powers to enchant Lord Claude while Prince Cedric is blaming Aileen for her disappearance.
And that is the interesting part of this volume. The rest of it is less interesting with a chunk of it being eaten up with Aileen setting up her own cosmetics company using all the people prince Cedric fired and briefly talking over the remodeling on the Demon Lord's castle. Oh and let's not forget the side story of the acquisition of the neighboring chunk of land done by Lord Claude's human assistant, by nefarious means and how they go about 'fixing' that. I think this was more clear in the anime then the manga.
Still a solid series! Glad it’s short though and that they didn’t drag the story out into so many volumes. The next volume is the last and I’m quite excited. I’ll try to read this one asap. Though the main flaw with this volume is it’s the middle volume, it’s setting things up. Also I didn’t really like the cosmetic business subplot, I hateeee when manga does stuff like this. Like okay time for a boring b plot to make things serious >:(( business and shit. But once the story got to the soirée… WOW. Amazing. The drama and everything, holy shit. I was eating it up. Also there’s finally some development on the romance! I will say I needed a bit more, but I do buy them as a couple. Maybe more because demon king x noble woman is a fun pair. Anyways when Claude says he wants to spoil Aileen… LIKE HOLY SHIT WOAH ALRIGHT MAN CALM DOWN. That caught me off guard they went from like level 2 to level 10 real quick. Anyways id say it’s a solid volume but too much set up and infodumping about plans and such. Bonus points for Almond the bird making me laugh everytime he was on the page, I love him.
ahh - this second volume was sooooo good! the heroine, lilia, is revealed to be from the 'real' world as well and is aware of the game/the various paths. it starts to get really interesting as she begins subterfuge to incriminate aileen, and even goes so far as to try and seduce the demon king. I love how he spurns her - so dramatic, and romantic!! he and aileen have multiple swoon-worthy romantic moments here as well, which is made even better by this fantastic art. prince cedric turns out to be quite the asshole...aileen's confrontation with him at the ball is oh-so-satisfying. her relationship with the various demons continues to develop, and her friendship with sir isaac is honestly goals - their high-five on page 80 is hilarious.
i'm really liking where this is going!!

I also love how the "villains" are good guys and the "protagonists" suck and are thoroughly despicable.
Also if you like this and are into the meta subverting tropes thing, then I highly recommend this kdrama called Extraordinary You which is about a high school girl with a congenital heart disease and a fiancé who hates her who finds out that she's a character in a book, and not even the main character, and so is determined to make her story her own instead of what the author wants it to be.
I suspected Kieth when Aileen said he betrays Claude, but I’m so glad his betrayal was a lie because he had lost trust in humans and thought Claude was better off as a demon. It is devastating that originally Claude was told Keith betrayed him without context and had to kill Keith himself. I am so glad Aileen is sorting things out!
Also, DAMN. Claude is so very hot. And Aileen is so very beautiful. The suit each other so much! Just get married already!!!
On to volume 3.

(Rating is 3.5!) The series plot slowed down a bit with this volume. It's a bit bogged down because there is so much dialogue, but it's all needed in order to fully explain the plot. The plot deepens and we even get some interesting backstories on some of the characters. The only downside is that it feels way slower-paced than the first volume because of it. Hopefully, all of this dialogue, planning, and scheming will pay off in the next volume!
