In 2010 Helen was exposed against her will as an escort following one night with former England captain, Wayne Rooney. Overnight she became known across the globe and was exploited by friends, PR's and the media who never told the full story. Helen went on to win Big Brother and write a successful online column. Now she has decided it is time for her to get the full story across in her own words. A Man's World explains why she made the decisions she did and how it has changed her life.
I actually really enjoyed this book. I had heard of Helen before with all the stuff online but you never get the truth with things said online so I wanted to read her life story. It was a really good book. She was really open and honest which you don’t seem to get with people nowadays. It was so well written and was very enjoyable. I definitely recommend this book.
What a bloody amazing book! Couldn’t put it down! A lot of respect for this woman who I don’t even know! Really enjoyed listening to her story and can relate a lot with my own family! Wish her all the best seriously don’t! Xxx
jess4legs@yahoo.com just finished the book and have enjoyed your honesty and humour throughout, good on for making the successful life you have by keep getting back up and fighting on ! If anyone can make it change to a woman's world it's you!!
This book was terrible and Helen herself even admitted to not writing most of the content and having very little say in what was published via her equally as awful podcast.
I’ve always liked Helen Wood...always thought she was a misunderstood gal. Since the book landed in my porch...I’ve not put it down. This book is honest, from the heart and raw. Although sometimes an uncomfortable read I love how open she is in the book. 5/5 for this book. What a fantastic read. Read it all within a few days..so sad I’ve finished it! I will definitely be recommending it to family and friends..please go out and buy this book you will not be disappointed I promise you!
Just finishing reading a mans world and it was such a good read! I read it in a day as I couldn’t put it down! I’ve always admired helen woods no bs attitude! So thank you for sharing your experiences with the world!
I’ve followed Helen’s story since her original appearance on Big Brother, where I was very much in the ‘I hate Helen camp’. However, even after leaving the house she still continued to fascinate me which is unlike me as I normally don’t give a damn about people I don’t like. It was only on her second appearance in the house that I felt like, hang on a minute, what this girl is saying is true it’s just her deliverance that’s harsh... what is it that has made her this way? Having been through an abusive relationship since then I felt like I could understand more that there had to be reasons behind it.
I started to follow her on social media and found her honesty quite refreshing and felt I agreed with her more than I thought. It made me want to know her story and when I heard she was writing a book I knew I had to read it.
Wow... I could not have made her story up! Chapter one was rough and hard to read. You really want to just scream at someone to take care of this child. She really went through it. Horrific relationships with men who took advantage of her caring and generosity, friends who did the same. I’ve been there, I understand it but fortunately have never had to have the unpleasantness of having my dirty laundry aired to the entire world.
Every woman should read this.
It’s not all bad however and she is extremely funny and blunt. Felt just like listening to a friend rather than reading a book. Found myself laughing out loud at some of her descriptions!
Honest, so honest the pain of the author was palpable at times. A young woman, who fought her way up, a path not many of us would have the courage to take in all fairness. She makes no apology for that route, simply trying to make a living in a world that repeatedly kicked her when she did everything in her power to keep her work life private. Betrayed by a so called friend, wolves at the door and no clue who to trust it was a miracle she survived at all. Sheer determination and a streak of stubbornness and probably a wall of defence has seen her through. Not to mention fiercely protecting her son she's righted the wrongs of her own childhood with a sense of dignity I hope she's proud of. Yet underneath it all is a woman who's been wronged and still manages to have compassion for others. Incredible.
Helen Wood is a woman who I’m sure the majority of us will have a preconceived image of. All due to her past and what has been written or manipulated in media.
I was one of those people however having read this book. I now see Helen Wood as a woman, whose been through a lot. She’s first and foremost a friend, a mother and a businesswoman. She’s been through some things no female or in fact male should go through and come out the other side with a super strong resilience and likes to take an approach of “I’m me like it or lump it!” Something to be admired.
My opinion has completely changed and I hope that others read this book and come to the same conclusion that I did and that is she is definitely a woman I would want in my corner regardless of the situation.
Iv always liked Helen what u see is what u get no tish just brutal truth n I think the world needs more of that ...I read this book in one night some parts are hilarious and some of her early life n single mum alone I could relate too and its not easy... u end up having more respect for her and wat shes overcome I do think she gets a rough ride off the media takes 2 t tango well 3 in that case lol ...honest well written funny book
I couldnt wait to read this book.i read it in 2 days.helen is very honest about things and tells her story in a way you can envision it.like Helen my mum was not the best, but I looked after her for her last few yrs,as at the end of the day, they are our mums, and no ones perfect..I have recommended this book to anyone that will listen.well done helen, keep doing you.
Wow what a read. Took only a day to finish, considering I have a 9 month old and not much spare time, it shows how much of gripping read it is. It’s brutally honest and raw, nothing is left out. It makes you feel like your mates telling you a story, it’s so easy to read.
Very short. I'd say loads omitted for legal reasons.
Very short and badly written. Loads of mistakes on the Kindle edition. Never really captured my attention. All seemed really rushed and over simplistic.
A great read! Read in 2 sittings! I have followed Helen only since seeing her on big brother and this is an eye opening insight into the rest of Helens life
