Cape Hope Mysteries #3

Cadaver at the Con: Cozy Mystery

Conferences can be murder...

Emma's boss has sent her to a conference. All expenses paid. How great is that? It was great until her mother's best friends show up as attendees to make sure she doesn't get herself into any trouble. What? It's not like that's their only mission. The conference is at a casino and they love their slots. Not to mention they love the keynote speaker. It was great until a mysterious shady man shows up, harassing the keynote speaker and another author. That shouldn't really involve Emma. And it doesn't. Until a trip to the swimming pool turns up a dead body.

Of course, wouldn't you know it, the detective in charge is Detective McHottie. And he's got his eye on a suspect. Luckily, this time, it's not Emma. Unfortunately, it's a new author that Emma's become quite a fan of. Not to mention, Emma's convinced this debuting author did not kill the dead guy in the pool.

Emma's got her hands full, what with her mom's best friends always on her heels, a killer on the loose, and of course, trying to keep out of Detective McHottie's way. And thoroughly failing.

Obvious storyline

Okay well written etc but the storyline was was really just too obvious. I must admit that although I normally love reading the books, that I skipped most of it to confirm my guess. I was right! The characters too seemed just a shade too pat and the best thing was Lola. But her part was too small.
Take a writer's conference, a famous author, a shady character and a death. Add in egos, book deals and one extremely nosy food writer. Result - a showdown. Will she catch the killer?

Emma attends a conference for writers. Seems safe enough, right? But this is Emma and the conference happens to be held at a casino in Detective Joe Sullivan's jurisdiction. Emma witnesses a confrontation, befriends the main suspect, finds the corpse, rushes to Joe's side in the hospital, lands up in the hospital herself, and of yea helps solve the crime! It was a great little read. Four out five since it did not keep me guessing til the end. Actually figured it out early on. Enjoyed the character development of her Aunties Nell and Trixie who also attended the conference. Loved the foreshadowing of what's to come with Emma's suitors. Looking forward to the next in the series.
