While there were a few clever bits, and a few sexy bits, overall this story was very flat for me. Not too many surprises, and very little angst or story tension at all. Others have had a higher opinion, so perhaps I missed something.

At first I didn't much care for Lexa and Sextus. But as they get to know each other, the facades wash away and we get to know them for real.

I don't think we've seen the last of Khour...

I read a lot of urban fantasy/fantasy books but don’t normally read books including aliens, I bought the first ‘Gladiator’ book ‘Zar’ on a whim and was hooked (I read the series). The subtle references to Firefly/Serenity weren’t lost on me, I loved the series/film and this book (and the others) have happily filled the space those left. I applied to get a pre-release copy of this book to review. This is the first book in the ‘Pirate’ series which includes characters introduced in the Gladiator series, this isn’t a problem if you haven’t read the others because there is a summary at the start.

It did take me a chapter or two to warm up to Lexa and Sextus (it means 6), they have defensive fronts because of bad past experiences. Overall I loved them and am hoping they might make appearances in future books, maybe be a central couple holding some of the other main characters together (like Anya and Zar in the Gladiator series).

I enjoyed seeing Lexa and Sextus change and adapt through events forced on them by necessity and Daneur Khour, which took them outside of their comfort zone - there is a lot of entertaining, squirm worthy dialogue and banter arising from misguided decisions, assumptions, danger and past events. I love the humour, both Lexa and Sextus have their funny, tragic and eureka moments.

I like books to leave me with a happy feeling and this, like the others doesn’t disappoint - despite the best efforts of Daneur Khour. This book could easily be cheesy because of the subject content but manages to avoid this completely in my view. I would recommend it, especially if you are looking for a first book of this type. I read it in 2 sittings which speaks for itself.

Said I wouldn't read it but I'm glad I did

After the way Becca treated Tawny in the book Devlose, I said I couldn't read a book where Becca got a hea. I will definitely have to eat my words on that one because this book was really good. And I still didn't like Becca and thought she deserved everything she got. When Sextus showed Becca who she was I honestly didn't expect her reaction but found it refreshing that she was willing to make amends and change. I really didn't think the author was going to be able to pull this off but she did. I am now more invested in this series than the original. Can't wait for the next one!

For being the first book in the series, I felt like a lot of the world-building/set up was missing - we're just thrown into a specific situation and all the extra information is sprinkled in as exposition.

The same with the relationship between Sextus and Lexa - it's almost like it happens behind closed doors without the reader's knowledge (there are just gaps in their evolution). This is the opposite of what I would want from a book, especially a book like this one.

Only Alana Khan can take two seriously unlikable characters and have you cheering for them by the end of the story. Sextus believes he will blackmail Lexa into being his bed mate for the coordinates to Earth but after learning she is a virgin he rejects that idea. However brought together by circumstance he must be her bodyguard and the more time they spend together the more they grow as people and a couple. I honestly was not sure I was going to like this new story mostly because of Lexa but as you learn more about her background raised by a conman and as Alana says hurt people hurt people. However as I said the more pages I read the more I could not put it down. Alana Khan is turning out to be one of my favorite new authors and the books centered in this world some of the ones I cannot wait to get my hands on.

Wow!!! This book I wanted to hate it so bad, because I hated Lexa. And Sextus wasn't much better than her let me tell you. But the author made me see them in a different light and understand them mentally and emotionally. They're still not my favorites, but the depth that she gave them made me understand them. She took me in a mental and emotional journey that I enjoyed. This book and its characters are so well developed, and you can see and feel the love and careful planning that she put into it. It made just sit back at the end and say Wow.!! Brava!! Ms. Khan Brava!!!

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for a review. Sextus was not my favorite of Khan’s books. Perhaps it was due to Lexa being so unlikeable in the beginning? I’m not sure what happened but I had a hard time getting into it. That being said, I have a couple of tips. Read Khan’s Devolose first for some interesting back story and stick with Sextus. Sextus felt different from Khan’s other hero’s and that was refreshing. I really enjoy how Khan continues world building by showing us new planets and various different alien species. As usual the love scenes are steamy and well done. Overall I would recommend Sextus. 3.5 stars!

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for a review. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure how the author was going to turn the main heroine Lexa into a likeable character. After learning more about her background and what she went through, I did sympathize with her and understood her better. It was also nice to see that she realized how crappy she acted to others in the prior book. Also, I enjoyed Sextus after he realized Lexa wasn't like what he thought she was. Overall, I really liked this book and it's one of my favorites in this series.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I started reading this boom with my mind made up that there was no way Lexa's character could be made likeable and the book was going to be so so. I am happy to say that I was wrong. Getting to know Lexa's backstory made her a much more likeable and realistic character. This book actually turned out to be one of the best I have read from Alana so far. My favorite scenes where the proposal from Sextus in the beginning of the book and the scene where Sextus uses his knife on Lexa. A must read.

Another winner from Alana Khan. I received this to read early. I'm glad I did! I love books in a series and even though this is the first in the Pirates Alien Abduction it spins off from her Galaxy Gladiator series so it feels like you know the 'world' where they live and the enemy they face. Fun to read.

I loved it. Sextus and Lexa were unlikable in the beginning, (ok Lexa was very unlikable) but by the time I got into the story I understood why they were like they were.
Lexa comes across as a spoiled self-centered little rich know-it-all, but the things that she went through growing up, I was actually glad for her doing what she did on her own.
Sextus is a bad boy but not a bad man. His past haunts him as well.
He's had Lexa in his sights for awhile and thinks she is just like him. When he gets to know something about her, he can't go about things the way he first planned to.
They grow up, (especially Lexa) and into each other. It turns both of them into loving and caring people.
This story had me rooting for both of them by the middle.
And the villain, PERFECT! What a monster.

Best book out of the series

So after reading chapter one and two I was instantly hook and wanted to know how this story was going to turn out. So far I’ve read all the stories for this universe so this one has pretty much the same MO, the chemistry between the hero and heroine are nice. The difference between this book verse her others is you actually see the romance blossom between the hero and heroine and they don’t have sex right at the beginning or even in the middle. Just when you think the story is over BAM! Something happens which makes it even more exciting. I enjoyed this read and looking forward to reading her next novel.

I received a copy of this book in advance for an honest review. This book was great! I have never started a book not liking both main H and h. However, this one I did. Alana highlights a saying that "hurt people hurt people". You learn about their less than ideal back stories (no spoilers) and gradually start really hoping they get their happy ending. The plot was entertaining and well written. For me though, the big draw was her ability to completely change my opinion about the H and h.

Desperate female, sexy dominant pirate, irresistible offer

This is the start of a new spin-off series within the Galaxy Guardians universe. While this could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend that it be read in publication date order in conjunction with the original. There are multiple reoccurring characters, concurrent / consecutive timelines and overarching themes that are built from the foundation laid by the first story (Zar) in the original series. Although they are recapped, there are also a lot of details that occurred previously that would be lost, as they cannot be adequately explained within another story.

** There are multiple scenes, dark themes and references to subjects that will be difficult for sensitive readers. These include abduction, enslavement, forced mating, mental health challenges, and trafficking. A high-level list is included below. **

— Although I try to watch it, if you have not read this (or the previous stories in the series), the following may contain spoilers. —

I loved watching the growth of Lexa. She was ready to receive her doctorate at the age of 23. Lexa did this by putting her head down, forgoing the typical childhood milestones, and being a serious student. Then when she was on the grasp of achieving her dream, she was abducted from Earth. She is one of the three females rescued during Devolose’s story from the planet Paradise. Alana Khan’s personal background comes to play with this story and she finds a way to handle what could be very difficult topics with humor, tears, curiosity, self-reflection, and romance.

Unfortunately with her childhood and studious background, Lexa didn’t develop any personal or social skills. This becomes immediately apparent on the ship, were she is quick to diagnose others, pushy with her opinions, and doesn’t seem to have the ability ‘to read the room’, like at all. She is solely focused on getting back to Earth at all costs.

This is when Sextus makes her an offer. He was able to locate the coordinates to Earth, but Thantose has fragile cargo on board and can’t immediately bring her there. Sextus is willing to spend a small fortune leasing a fast ship that will get her there within a timeframe that she might still be able to explain away her absence, but at a price. Lexa has to be willing to submit to being his in every way … he gives her until midnight to accept.

Lexa doesn’t really feel like she has a choice but to accept. She has done everything required to earn her degrees early so she could get on with her life. This is just something else, so she proceeds to his room. Sextus is waiting for her and it seems he has gotten started without her. It is going to cost him over half a year’s pay, so he would like her to ‘demonstrate’ her willingness to follow his very particular instructions … to bad no one ever explained teeth …

Will her being completely innocent make a difference to Sextus when he finds out? What would Lexa do if she can’t make it back, or it would be too long to explain away?

I include the following for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. There are a few grammatical issues with punctuation, so nothing difficult to interpret. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.

⛔️ SERIES contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including, but not limited to: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, etc.; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, consensual / non-consensual acts, etc.; violence throughout typical of the alien abduction genre such as kidnapping / abduction, murder / death, torture, assault, rape, fighting, human (species) trafficking, enslavement, pain/kill collar, mental, physical and sexual abuse of adults and children, prostitution, coercion, etc.

4&1\2terrific 🌟's for book 1 of the Galaxy pirates💖

I came across this book in my kindle unlimited when I was looking for something new to read in one of my favorite genres Sci-Fi romance. I'm glad I took the chance on " Sextus" it was a good choice. Lexa was an abducted human woman who was stolen from her bed and her life a few short weeks ago. She's only 23 and was just about to achieve her doctorate in psychology. The problem was she was a genius who has no idea of what it means to have any kind of relationship. Her mother left when she was a child and her father was a con man who used and abused his daughter when he realizes how smart she was in his cons. When he died she took care of herself and put herself through school. Unfortunately that left no time for people. No family, no friendships and no romantic relationships. All she had was her book learning that can only take a person so far. Lexa's personality is so abrasive that she unintentionally hurts those around her. She just wants to go home to Earth and she's willing to do just about anything to get there. Sextus, is a gorgeous blue space pirate with anger issues that helped save the human women from slavery. He's been attracted to Lexa from the beginning and feels they are like minded with little thought of others. He couldn't have been more wrong. He promises to help Lexa get home but somehow the plans fails. Now she has to find away to make a life for her self here out in space. Sextus wanted to help her but also wanted a quick sexual relationship with her. What he found was and innocent untouched female that didn't know the first thing about men or interaction between people. These two set off on an adventure to make enough credits to keep Lexa safe and buy her a home. On this adventure two people who have deep seeded issues of their own learn to trust one another and find hope and salvation in the life they come to share between.them. It really was a great story both characters grow and learns some about themselves and each other that you can help Bigfoot for them to succeed. I'm definitely going to return to this series and this author in the future. 💖💖💖💖💖

I wasn’t sure how to rate this. Some things I liked, some things I didn’t. I liked Lexa, she was actually smart (most of the time, at least), and I could believe she was a con artist. Her being mean to people wasn’t shown, so I wasn’t keen on believing that part. It would have had a bigger impact and better character development if we had seen the awful person she was at first. Then again, this is a spinoff from a series I haven’t read (and most likely won’t read), so maybe those interactions were shown there? In that case, this can’t be considered a standalone. It’s bad enough that the secondary characters are introduced as if we already know their story.
Sextus was mostly bland. Again, we’re told a lot of things I didn't see when it came to him. And the hiper focus he had on her “untouched status” was quite creepy. As was his name and the insistence that she called him Sex.
The whole crap with the boob-exposing attire she's forced to wear in this desert planet and how fMC thinks about it felt very racist. And it was uncomfortable to read. And they kept bringing it up all the way to the end of the book.
Also, aside from that very uncomfortable setting and the rare mention of skin color here and there, this could have been set in Vegas, with a fully human cast.
The plot was Ok, it was entertaining for the most part, aside from the creepy details here and there.
2.5 stars rounded down.

Even though this is Book 1 of this series, it really is a spin off of a previously established series I have never heard of, and I don't think I have ever read this authors work before. This book was recommended by another author's newsletter, so I decided to try it out. The peripheral characters were introduced like you knew their history when I didn't. I don't like jumping into a series mid way, if a book looks interesting and it isn't the first one, I will read the previous ones to be up to speed with the book of interest.
I actually almost stopped reading this book before the end of Chapter 2. I am not a big BDSM, or torture fan, so when those chapters arose, I again hesitated. I am glad I finished this book, it was interesting and fairly well written. I didn't like how it ended with the primary villain. I guess this is for future books to have an established nemesis, but I won't be reading any future books in this series. I really didn't like the level of evil Khour depicted, and that of his minions. Too creepy and crass.
Glad Lexa and Sextus found their HEA.
I normally end my reviews with "Well worth your time and $$", but I read this via Kindle Unlimited and don't want to under value this authors work in any way.

Sextus #1 10;12/2025

Lexa was rescued by pirates but she really want to go back to earth, you see she was abducted and taken into space to be sold as a slave. But the pirates save her and two other earth women. The others know they can’t go back they have been gone to long and what do you tell people about where you were. But lexa think she can get away with it. Sextus is a private and he is trying to con lexa by telling her he can get her home for sexual favors. But it’s not really true and it back fires now she need to make this her life. After playing cards with the captain they come up with a way for her to make a lot of money by playing cards. And that an strange experience. But then they cross path with one of the most evil people in the galaxy. Now they have to get out of trouble. So enjoy this very good read and see their HEA!!

Great kickoff for new Galaxy Pirates series...
There were a few plot holes that made me think, "that wouldn't happen in real life!" Then I remind myself, seriously? This is interstellar space travel with alien abduction of humans. A trope that you have to suspend reality anyway. So this book took a bit for me to warm up as to the premise/plot holes and characters that I initially didn't like much.

However, the author sure has a way of making less than likable characters evolve throughout the course of the story to a character that I can at least understand, all the way to characters that I absolutely love. This was one of those stories that it took me time to warm up to the characters and by the end I was rooting for them.

Cerulean pirate

This is the first of a series in a sci-fi world with a cast of pirates who take up with rescued abducted females. Sexton, a blue powerhouse, is a crewmember where 3 women are brought aboard. Lexa, a young Earther, is a tough, independent doctoral candidate yanked just before finishing her psychology degree. Sextus' revenge objective takes them to a casino world where Lexa's skills are rewarded and his objective is sighted.
Khan writes a humorous fantasy, quite sexy despite the stigma of being untouched. The ultimate mating is roaring hot. Khan has enough support characters to write several more episodes in the series, as the universal population seems to include numerous shades of humanoids as well as other species.

The only reason that this review is not a 5 is nothing to do with the writing, which is amazing, or the characters which are so well written you feel you would recognise them in the street. In truth it is all down to my dislike of Lexa and how she treated some people. Don't get me wrong she does change and you do get the reasons behind it all I just couldn't quite forgive I guess.
This is a wonderful series of books and you don't really need to read the others to enjoy this one nor the series which spawned it Galaxy Gladiators but it is a wonderful excuse to get them and read them as well. You would not regret it.

The "We hate Lexa" club shall not be silenced

Spoilers (sorta)
It's amazing when an author can write a character so well that the audience can't help but hate him or her. Sorry author lady. You did too good of a job making Lexa so loathsome. While this book was entertaining, it wasn't really sufficient to make one understand nor "forgive" her earlier behavior (in Develose). There was insufficient evidence to make a jury of her readers like her.
Kudos for having "a man named Jayne" as the hero. I understand that the hero has to be likable enough to be a convincing love interest in this sort of book, but that was some serious character growth for him.

I love Alana Khan's characters and the story lines in her books. Having said that, I need to warn you that this book has graphic adult situations and you need to be a mature reader. This is the story of Lexa who is a con artist and a real dislikable character in the beginning. She will grow on you. It is also about an alien pirate named Sextus, or Sex to his friends. Things get a rocky start between the two of them. They have a dangerous adventure together and raise a great deal of funds for the pirate ship. They work out a relationship neither were looking for along the way. This has an HEA. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

Another great book by Alana Kahn. Lexa is a human that was kidnapped from earth to be sold as a slave. She is rescued by space pirates and has been on the ship with them for a while. None of the other women want to go back to earth, but she is desperate to return. Sextus only goal in life is to find the man who killed his sister and get revenge. If he has to use Lexa to do that he doesn't care. Follow these two on their journey where they learn to trust each other and also the closely examine what they really want from life. A great story!

Book one in the Galaxy Pirates Alien Abduction Romance Series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Sextus and Lexa's story there is suspense, drama, danger, a villain, a cocky male who finds love and a woman who desperately wants to get back to Earth, and the two of them coming to find love. I want to read the next book. I read this copy through K.U.

The two main characters don’t sound like a good mix and don’t get off to a good start. It doesn’t take too long for that to change. But with that comes the revelation of pain, deep hatred and the overwhelming need for revenge. And even worse, Lexa realizes how others must see her. The scene where she acknowledged her treatment of the others brought tears to my eyes.
