ZR Rifle : The Plot To Kill Kennedy and Castro: Cuba Opens Secret Files

Rate this book
Thirty years after the death of John F. Kennedy, Cuba opened its secret files on the assassination. These Cuban files revealed new evidence that led to those behind the plot to kill Kennedy. Supported by extensive use of Cuban State Security Department materials, Brazilian journalist and film-maker Claudia Furiati shows how and why the CIA, through those responsible for its anti-Cuba operations, along with anti-Castro exiles and the Mafia, planned and orchestrated the Kennedy assassination. ZR Rifle features the first-ever interview with Cuba's chief of counterintelligence, General Fabian Escalante, who was in charge of Cuban units that infiltrated the CIA-controlled anti-Castro groups in the United States.

the zoom-out to include context of America's anti-Cuba operations leading up to November 1963 is very useful in understanding all the moving parts of the JFK assassination and i appreciate the lengths Ms Furiati went to explain them. most of the Dallas Shooting media ive encountered focuses so heavily on the day of the assassination without providing much info on the events surrounding it so i was glad for the shift in focus and the inclusion of Cuba's until-then classified intelligence files for some theoretical triangulation.

the last chapter of the book just tying up loose ends is a bit tricky to follow but i was absolutely gone full psycho this weekend and my personal copy is now heavily annotated and highlighted green. i have become the guy in that one scene in Slacker, google Operation Peter Pan and feel sick to your stomach

YES! Having read hundreds of books on the JFK case I think Claudia Furiati has more relevant names in the hat than so many other research works.
Having read General Fabian Escalante's 'The Cuba Files' (2008) some time back, it has been a revelation to come across 'ZR Rifle:The Plot to Kill Kennedy and Castro' which was published in 1994. The author worked in Cuba and gained access to Cuban Ministry of Interior archives and also interviewed Escalante! The result is this great book that is both revealing and highly plausible.
Not only does 'ZR Rifle' fit pieces of this multi-puzzle together, linking CIA, Mafia and Cuban exile forces from Operation Mongoose, onto Atlee Phillips' inherited ZR/Rifle-JM/Wave operations, but we also see the 'false flag' sheep dipping of the patsy Oswald under Banister in New Orleans and the Mafia participation of 'mechanics' in Dealey Plaza under team leader Jack Ruby via Trafficante/Giancana. Redeeming the much maligned Jim Garrison.
The Cuban archives sweep away much of the plausible deniability of Richard Helms et al. and certainly makes for a highly revealing read. It is also disturbing to note that Furiati's work could not find a publisher in the land of the free, even in the late twentieth century. The blockade was broken thanks to Ocean Press of Australia!
