L'horloge tourne et, sans constatations ni victimes, ce suspect pourrait se retrouver en liberté et continuer sa folie meurtrière.

Qui a lu ce livre ?
J'aimerai en discuter car je reste très dubitative quant à cette fin étrange.

Un thriller qui s'annonçait prometteur mais qui n'aura pas tenu ses promesses.
Le gendarme Monceau revient après une mise à pied de 60 jours à la BN d'Annecy au début d'une enquête qui s'annonce ardue. Un homme s'est présenté un matin en disant avoir tué 4 personnes, mais sans dire qui il est, avec en poche une carte de visite d'une secte locale "Les enfants de Gaia". Mis en garde à vue pour 48h l'équipe de gendarmes se doit de découvrir ce qu'il a fait avant qu'il ne soit relâché. Mais cet homme n'est pas le seul à cacher de sombres secrets, Monceau dont les crises de paranoïa augmente à la vue de la carte de visite, se retrouve en binôme avec Boris un nouveau venu qui a juré sa perte.
Les deux hommes ne se comprennent pas. Les tensions entre eux sont grandissantes jusqu'à l'affrontement final qui précipite la fin de l'enquête sans que l'on comprenne le pourquoi du comment.
La pression que l'auteur a distillé entre Monceau et Boris se termine sur rien et m'a laissé plus que dubitative.
Suis-je passée à côté de quelque chose ?

Je suis un peu perplexe..

L’intrigue a tellement de potentiel, on a des personnages intéressants, mais plusieurs points m’ont dérangé : le personnage principal qui est végétalien (ou vegan) et qui rejette la violence sur les animaux MAIS qui ne contrôle pas sa colère et en vient vite aux mains; un sujet abordé qui, je ne sais pas du tout, est peut-être mal abordé (est-ce qu’il y a eu des sensitive reader?), le dénouement qui est un peu précipité..

Mais, en même temps j’ai aimé certains aspects et notamment le dénouement, même si un peu précipité et lâché un peu comme ça..

Ça se lit plutôt bien, et j’avoue avoir été tenu en haleine. Mais un peu déçue quand même.. bref, mitigée..

first book I have read from this author
not what I expected at all.
was hard to get into at first, a bit slow (I am really really bad at slow parts, even in movies they are hard for me to deal with lol)
then later it gets better and you find out so much about the past history and somethings start to make a bit more sense
Its like the clues that never end and this def keeps you interested and wanting to know more
then the twisted ending wow

Het boek speelt zich af op de grens van Frankrijk en Zwitserland waar de gendarmerie een vreemde moordzaak voorgeschoteld krijgt. Een man komt binnen met een lijst waarop 4 namen staan en spreekt enkel de zin ´Ik heb ze allemaal vermoord´ uit. Verder wil hij niets zeggen. De agenten staan voor een raadsel en de tijd tikt... Zullen ze de lichamen vinden?

Persoonlijk lees ik heel graag thrillers, maar dit boek wist mij jammergenoeg niet helemaal te boeien. Het tempo vond ik iets te traag gaan en ik kreeg ook het gevoel dat er soms van de hak op de tak gesprongen werd. Ik kon het boek niet altijd evengoed volgen, waardoor ik ook niet geneigd was om verder te lezen. Het verhaal en de ontwikkelingen op zich vond ik wel goed bedacht.

Sergeant Michael Monroe is returning to work after extended leave following an unexplained incident. He is a Synergologist, an expert in reading body language where the physical body can betray what the mind won't. The same morning, a man walks into a police station & confesses to several murders, he writes a list of four names & keeps repeating "I killed them all". The man is transferred to Monroe's neck of the woods & his department take on the case which throws Monroe into situations where he has to navigate one of his colleagues being out to get him alongside links to his traumatic past.

I'm a big fan of offbeat main characters that struggle with a darker side, I especially like Val McDermid's Dr Tony Hill for that reason, so I was interested in seeing where Michael Monroe led the reader. He's a vegan, kind to stray animals (always a plus), & in one short scene out of nowhere seems to have a penchant for anonymous BDSM. As the book progresses the reader learns more about his upbringing which explains some of his internal conflict. The case itself was interesting although it finished rather abruptly with some unanswered questions for me but, unlike the aforementioned Tony Hill, Monroe is difficult to like. Also I didn't find the romantic relationship very convincing as there was zero chemistry between the two characters. Overall, Monroe strikes me as the kind of character that would perhaps improve on further acquaintance as his story develops in other books (not sure if this is a one off or not). 3 stars

Je n'ai pas été transcendée par ce roman de Florian Dennisson. Je m'attendais à un thriller plus haletant avec davantages de rebondissements liés, comme le laissait penser le synopsis, à ce mystérieux homme qui se rend à la gendarmerie d'Annecy, ne disant rien si ce n'est cette phrase "je les ai tous tué" et n'ayant en poche qu'une carte de visite à l'effigie d'une secte.
Le récit s'articule autour du gendarme Monceau dont le passé semble être en lien avec la secte et de cette enquête, qui est-il et qui sont les 4 personnes dont il s'accuse de meurtre. La gendarmerie nationale sonne le branle-bas de combat pour découvrir l'identité des 4 potentielles victimes et savoir ce que l'homme leur a fait, et sauf que l'emulsion ne prend pas. L'histoire est lente, on s'attarde trop sur les émotions de Monceau (j'ai eu envie de secouer le personnage à plusieurs reprises), l'enquête avance par à coups mais apporter de rythme. Enfin, la fin m'a laissé une sensation d'inachevée, l'enquête est résolue en deux temps trois mouvements et je suis restée sur ma faim.

A man walks into a police station in New York State and confesses to killing by uttering four word “I killed them all”. The police unable to get any other details from him other than a written list of names start a hunt for the missing bodies.

The premise of the book is interesting and I was genuinely drawn into wanting to read more but the book doesn’t quite live up to its premise.
The lead character Michael Munroe, a detective who is just back at work after a sixty day suspension is hard to warm too as are the other police detectives. Although set in New York State there is no real sense of place; other than the mention of the name of the town and a few visits to the US side of Niagara Falls this book could have been set anywhere and I found myself imagining it set in a bleaker Scandinavian setting: the surnames of the characters in the book added to this feeling too.

Despite this the book kept my interest and I wanted to carry on reading. The ending is very sudden and leaves some answered questions; the set up for a series perhaps?

This was really slow for me to start with and I must admit if I wasn't reading this for Bloodhound as an arc I wouldn't have continued, but I am glad that in the end I read it.

I just felt that there were so many unanswered questions but will try another book by this author.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect with the characters, and the story in itself was a bit slower to what I usually read.
The plot was intriguing though, and I enjoyed the last "twist".
I will check for other books from this authors out of curiosity.

Found this difficult to get in to and strange characters with a slow story line but I persevered to the end as I had chosen to read it but it leaves you with unanswered questions. You can't like all you read an if I hadn't been reading for the Bloodhound Arc I would have put it down after the first few chapters

Florian Dennisson is een Fransman en heeft al heel wat boeken op zijn naam staan, maar De lijst is het eerste boek van hem dat vertaald is. Om hem beter te leren kennen ben ik op zoek gegaan naar informatie over Florian. Schrijven is het tweede leven van Florian zoals hij zelf op zijn website schrijft. Zijn eerste leven was muziek; toeren naar de vier uithoeken van de wereld en albums opnemen. In 2015 verruilde hij zijn gitaar voor een toetsenbord en werd fulltime schrijver. Hij richtte een eigen uitgeverij op, gespecialiseerd in misdaadromans. In zijn jeugd las hij veel Agatha Christie, vandaar zijn keuze voor misdaadromans. Op zijn website vind ik ook de volgende quote: ‘Ik beschouw mijn romans als labyrinten waarin ik je wil verliezen’
Hij vertelt dat hij mij als lezer met zijn verhalen wil laten reizen, nadenken, huiveren, verwonderen en op het verkeerde spoor zetten. Ik ben daarom wel heel benieuwd naar De lijst. Zeker ook omdat ik maar weinig uit het Frans vertaalde thrillers ken.

Op een dag meldt een man zich bij de politie, compleet in de war, met de zin ‘Ik heb ze allemaal vermoord!’
Rechercheur Maxime Monceau gaat vandaag weer aan het werk na drieënzestig dagen en twee uur afwezig te zijn geweest. De officiele versie is een burn-out maar een paar mensen uit het team weten dat het een schorsing was. Hij krijgt de zaak, van deze bijzondere moordenaar die zichzelf aangeeft, toegewezen. De man is niet bekend bij de politie en er is niemand vermist die aan zijn omschrijving voldoet. De enige aanwijzing die Maxime Monceau kan volgen is een lijst met namen.

Het is een heel bijzonder verhaal met een verrassend einde. Ik moest wel wennen aan de persoon van Maxime Monceau. Inmiddels zijn de aan alcoholverslaafde rechercheurs, die het altijd aan de stok hebben met hun baas en, na schorsing, op eigen houtje doorgaan met de zaak, wel bekend. Ook kennen we denk ik allemaal Saga Norén uit The Bridge; eigenwijs en met autistische trekjes. Maxime Monceau komt wel in de buurt, maar is met afstand de meest bijzondere rechercheur die ik heb meegemaakt. Hij is synergoloog, een expert in de kunst van het ontcijferen van non-verbale taal.

“Ze had hem altijd geplaagd met zijn obsessie voor synergologie en de kunst van het ontcijferen van non-verbale taal. Voor haar, zoals voor de meesten bij de gendarmerie, bestond er geen vervanging voor een bekentenis of ouderwets onweerlegbaar bewijs. Ze zwoer bij DNA-sporen en informatie op mobiele telefoons. Maxime kon de komst van deze technologieën alleen maar toejuichen, maar wat hem betrof was de mens nog steeds een complex dier dat de expertise van soortgenoten nodig had. Geen enkele computer kon de ziel zo goed doorgronden als een mens die de juiste technieken had geleerd. Synergologie en de studie van non-verbale communicatie waren voor hem net zo’n krachtig wapen als een heel forensisch onderzoeksteam.

Of de kunst van Maxime tot de oplossing van de zaak kan leiden of tot”een nieuwe schorsing, dat moet je zelf ezen.

De schrijfstijl is heel beeldend op een manier die ik nog niet zo ken uit andere thrillers.
“Hij keek op en observeerde het werkblad van de jonge vrouw: onafgemaakte dossiers, een notitieblok met woordspelletjes, een foto van haar tweelingbroer, een pot overvol met pennen en kapot gekauwde doppen en haar computerscherm waarvan het blauwachtige licht haar rode haar highlights gaf. Maar één detail viel hem op. Het viel haar ook op. ‘Waar staar je naar?’ De pupillen van haar voormalige partner waren verwijd en er parelden als koude zweetdruppels op zijn rug. De adrenaline die met de snelheid van zijn hartslag door zijn lichaam gierde, maakte hem duizelig. Hij worstelde om niet flauw te vallen en weg te zinken in een draaikolk van verachtelijke herinneringen die diep in hemzelf begraven lagen. Na een lange minuut vond hij eindelijk de kracht om een paar woorden tegen Emma te zeggen.”

Het geeft goed de synergologie weer en dat vind ik heel knap gedaan. Toch vind je veel van dit soort stukjes in het verhaal en dat haalt de vaart wel een beetje uit het verhaal.
Het wordt in het verhaal niet echt duidelijk wat er precies gebeurd is met Maxime waardoor hij geschorst werd. Maar als je leest hoe Maxime een plaats delict ‘bekijkt’, kan ik me voorstellen dat in een wereld van harde bewijzen deze wat meer softe aanpak leidt tot conflicten.

Het is een boek waarvan ik echt dacht waar gaat dit heen?, maar het einde vind ik geniaal gevonden. Die plottwist had ik niet zien aankomen. Agatha Christie zie ik niet terug in dit boek, wel snap ik nu dat hij me een labyrint in heeft gestuurd. Mezelf verliezen is niet gelukt, wel ben ik regelmatig in verwarring gebracht. Ik vind het een goed debuut dat 4 sterren verdiend. Ik zag dat er in totaal al 3 boeken met Maxime in de hoofdrol zijn verschenen. Ik hoop dat ze snel vertaald worden.

J'ai lu ce roman en français, mais ma langue maternelle est anglais. Je ne l'aurais pas choisi si la mise en scène était les E-U, comme la version anglaise. L'histoire a lieu aux Alpes, près de la frontière suisse - très joli! Après avoir lu quelques chapitres assez lentement, le déroulement a accéléré si bien que j'ai fini la moitié en une soirée. Ayant dit cela, la fin m'a laissée avec des questions, et je n'aime pas ça. En tout cas, j'ai dû deviner beaucoup au sujet de la personnalité/vie/histoire de fond de Maxime. Il y avait trop de détails à régler, à mon avis, par exemple: la folle rage de Monceau, sa vie privée, l'affaire avec la cheffe, et, le plus grand détail c'est Boris! Est-ce que cette histoire continue dans le deuxième roman? Sinon, qu'est-ce que c'est cette histoire avec lui? Pourquoi l'écrire comme ça, surtout quand il disparait de l'histoire avant la fin? Les trois étoiles sont généreuses, car je n'ai pas détesté l'intrigue, et je crois que je lirais la prochaine aventure de Monceau, même si c'était juste pour découvrir si Boris revient. Pas plus que trois car l'histoire semble incomplète. Je ne dirai rien au sujet du langage car ça c'est à moi si je dois faire des recherches.

I read this book in French, although English is my first language. In French, it is set in the French Alps on the Swiss border - a very pleasant setting. I chugged through the first few chapters until it finally picked up about half way through, then i finished the last half in one sitting. For me, there were just too many loose ends at the end that were never explained. I know from French films that the endings are not always neat little packages like in American movies, but this ending was too vague. All of the detail trying to build the characters was forgotten along the way in the last half, and at the end, I found myself asking "But what about...?" over and over. A good writer shouldn't drop shocking details at one point and then never circle back. Otherwise, what was the point of putting it in? Was it a red herring? There were a few of these. That was disappointing. All of that being said, I really liked the story idea and the plot ending. It was believable. The characters were not well developed, and it would have helped having a bit more backstory to Maxime Monceau. I don't think reading it in English would have cleared up any of the mysteries. Three stars because I didn't hate it, and I would probably read the second book if it was given to me. No more than three because it seems incomplete.

Première lecture en ce qui me concerne de cet auteur, La Liste est un roman policier bien ficelé et qui se lit de manière très agréable.

Maxime Monceau, gendarme à la Brigade de Recherche d’Annecy, reprend du service après deux mois d’arrêt. Pour l’accueillir, une nouvelle lieutenante, Assia Larcher, qu’il connaît déjà de façon particulière, et l’adjudant-chef Boris Pawlovski, qui a plus ou moins pris sa place notamment auprès de sa binôme et amie, Emma Leroy. Un homme très perturbé se présente de lui-même à la gendarmerie pour s’accuser de quatre assassinats. Au milieu de propos incohérents, il fournit la liste de ses prétendues victimes, sans les localiser ni fournir de raison à ses actes. Course contre la montre avant que le suspect ne retrouve la liberté, la liste est la seule piste pour tenter de retrouver les insaisissables victimes.

Spécialiste du langage non verbal, Maxime va mettre à profit son talent pour décrypter la gestuelle d’un suspect pour le moins original. Le thème de la synergologie est suffisamment rare dans le milieu du roman policier pour être remarqué : j’ai appris à ce sujet des éléments vraiment intéressants, qui m’ont donné envie d’approfondir mes connaissances dans ce domaine. Maxime, le personnage central du roman, est un être réservé, plus enclin à s’occuper de chats errants que des personnes qui l’entourent. Il possède des secrets qui le rendent assez taciturne; j’ai éprouvé pour lui beaucoup d’empathie: il est hypersensible, ses réactions semblent parfois inappropriées mais démontrent chez lui une profonde angoisse. C’est un personnage que j’ai trouvé très attachant: ses relations aux autres sont compliquées mais il est profondément humain, et grâce à lui cette étrange enquête va aboutir.

Je n’aurais jamais pu imaginer le surprenant dénouement auquel nous convie l’auteur : l’intrigue est inattendue du début à la fin mais tout se tient et est parfaitement expliqué ! Le lecteur est comblé ! Je remercie NetGalley et les Editions Chambre Noire pour cette lecture divertissante.

La liste de Florian Dennisson est une liste de beaucoup de promesses : celle d'un bon moment de divertissement, celle de découvrir un auteur indépendant, celle de rencontrer un nouveau (anti-)héros, celle d'une histoire intrigante... Tous les engagements sont pris et tenus : Maxime Monceau, de retour au bercail de sa gendarmerie, prend en charge un homme taciturne, voire mutique, qui dit seulement avoir tué quatre personnes, dont les noms figurent sur une liste que l'inconnu fournit à l'équipe d'investigations. Grâce à sa spécialité de synergologie, le personnage principal se met en quête de la vérité et va se trouver confronté à de nouveaux collègues, à d'anciennes connaissances, mais surtout à ses propres démons et secrets du passé. En effet, ce roman policier esquisse le portrait d'un gendarme d'un genre insolite, entre une enfance difficile, des traumatismes conséquents et sa carrière atypique. L'intrigue est d'ailleurs reléguée au second plan pour camper la personnalité de Maxime Monceau, mais peut-être était-ce nécessaire pour (in)augurer une série de qualité... Le déroulement de l'enquête mène d'illusions à des révélations, au détour de rebondissements, et le dévoilement final s'avère original et inattendu, même s'il est présenté de façon un peu abrupte. Cette lecture distrayante m'a donné envie de poursuivre l’œuvre de cet écrivain français, assez prolifique et plébiscitée : un grand merci par conséquent à NetGalley d'avoir permis l'accueil de cet auteur et de sa maison d'édition, Chambre noire, sur sa plateforme.

Maxime Monceau gaat weer aan het werk na een korte pauze. Hij is onderofficier bij de gendarmerie van Annecy. Hij is afgestudeerd synergoloog. Ze onderzoeken een zaak met een onbekende man die vier moorden bekent. Hij is overduidelijk heel bang voor iemand die hij De Kapitein noemt. Maxime’s onderzoekskills zijn wat vreemd. Bijzonder. Out-of-the-box. Maar hij weet wel vooruitgang te boeken op die manier.

“Ze gingen van de hoofdweg af die langs het meer liep en reden door een soort groene tunnel van bomen, die naar beneden leken te buigen om de auto te begroeten als die hen passeerde.”

Dan blijkt de man een kaartje bij zich te hebben van een sekte. Eentje die Maxime maar al te goed kent…

“Haar bijna engelachtige gezicht zag er zo lief uit als dat van een tiener, hoewel haar kleren haar een decennium ouder maakten.”

Het verhaal neemt meerdere keren een verrassende wending. Alles loopt uit de hand als Maxime zwaar gefrustreerd raakt. Gelukkig is daar altijd nog zijn oude chef die hem te hulp schiet.

“Van oudsher zijn er altijd mensen geweest die de waarheid weten en mensen die blind blijven, deze twee categorieën mensen zouden nooit in harmonie kunnen leven - daar was hij van overtuigd. Zijn littekens bewezen dat.”

Het eerste deel van een serie zag ik op Goodreads. Een spannende verhaal, wellicht niet echt een thriller. Ik ben wel benieuwd hoe het verder gaat met Maxime! De start van het boek was flitsend, het middenstuk moest ik even door heen bijten, maar het einde las weer vlot.

J’ai trouvé cette série un peu par hasard et les résumés m’ont tout de suite accrochée. Me voilà donc lancée dans des enquêtes fascinantes en compagnie du gendarme Maxime Monceau !

Je ne connaissais pas la plume de Florian Dennisson et je suis conquise. Il ne lui faut pas grand chose pour planter le décor et instaurer une ambiance qui met les sens en alerte. J’ai dévoré les pages à une vitesse vertigineuse ( les 3 tomes en moins d’une semaine, c’est dire…). Les enquêtes sont intrigantes, avec un fil rouge que j’ai aimé retrouver dans les trois volumes. Le plus, c’est le réalisme insufflé au récit avec une connaissance approfondie du système judiciaire français et des procédures, ça prolonge l’immersion dans l’univers ! L’auteur a su m’emmener là où je ne m’y attendais pas, surtout dans « La Liste « .

Le gros point fort de cette série réside clairement en son personnage : Maxime Monceau. Le jeune gendarme est difficile à cerner, mais il est d’une loyauté sans faille. On le découvre sous différentes facettes au fil des tomes et j’aime beaucoup ce genre de personnage atypique. Est-ce que j’ai fait des recherches sur la synergologie ? Et comment !

Une très belle découverte que je conseille aux amateurs de romans policiers.

Wow, that was unexpected!
When I read the synopsis for this book I was immediately intrigued – a strange man turns up at a police station repeatedly saying nothing but “I killed them all!” and handing over a list of four names. But as yet, there are no reported suspicious deaths…(Don’t worry, this review is spoiler-free!)

The main character, Michael, is a police officer on the case who’s just returned to duty. He asks to be put on the case because he notices the logo of the shadowy cult that he grew up on the suspect’s person. And Michael asserts that he would be the only officer who could get any headway on the case.

Addresses are found for all the names on the list, but all 4 residences seem to be no longer occupied, and an x-ray on the suspect reveals that he has swallowed a large key. Michael uses rather unorthodox methods to assess the crime scenes, much to the dismay of his partner.

With every lead that presents itself is the promise that the mystery can be solved. But very little is revealed about this shadowy cult, or about Michael’s past. And although Michael at first appears to be a very kind, caring, and sensitive individual, as the book progresses, you start to really wonder what his deal is, and in the last 20% of the book his behaviour becomes not just unexpected but shocking.

When the officers learn that their suspect had previously been institutionalised due to both mental illness and violent tendencies, this is one lead that’s explored. But due to issues surrounding jurisdiction issues, the officers get fobbed off.

But despite the slow progress of the case, the writing and the side stories will keep you wanting to read more. Michael’s partner does some independent digging around Michael’s ties with the cult, and later an outright bizarre psychiatric therapy comes to light that the suspect had undergone.

Due to a lack of evidence, the police are forced to release the suspect, and that’s when the action really kicks off! And it turns out that Michael is perhaps not the nice guy he was earlier made out to be…

I really enjoyed this book, and I wish it was part of a series, because there’s so much left uncovered. All in all, highly recommended!

Als er op een dag een man het politiebureau binnenkomt en blijft herhalen dat "hij ze alle vier heeft vermoord", wil Maxime graag aan deze zaak werken.

Verder zegt de onbekende man niks, hij schrijft alleen nog een lijst op van vier namen, de namen van de personen die zijn slachtoffers zouden zijn.

Aan Maxime en zijn collega's de taak om erachter te komen wie deze man is en wie zijn slachtoffers zijn.

Als je eenmaal in het verhaal zit, wil je verder blijven lezen. Je wil weten wat er precies aan de hand is. De schrijfstijl is prettig en het verhaal leest makkelijk weg, ondanks dat er vrij veel Franse namen in voorkomen wat het voor mij soms wat verwarrend maakte.

Tegen het eind van het boek zijn er een aantal plottwists en gebeurt er een heleboel, dit zorgde ervoor dat je tot het eind van het boek geboeid bleef. 

Als je van psychologische thrillers houdt dan is dit boek een aanrader, er wordt diep op het karakter van de hoofdpersoon ingegaan en ook het karakter van de onbekende man blijft niet onbesproken.

Tout commence avec quatre noms sur une liste, quatre personnes introuvables. Comment réussir à les trouver?

On y retrouve Maxime Monceau adjudant spécialiste du langage non verbal, lui et son équipe vont enquêter sur une drôle d'affaire qui va les mettre dans une impasse. Un homme s'est présenté à la brigade en s'accusant de meurtres. Il répète en boucle une seule phrase et ils ne savent pas qui est cet homme. Sauf que sans preuves cet homme pourrait être relâché et recommencer à tuer.

Un livre lu d'une traite tellement j'ai de suite accroché à l'histoire si prenante, addictive, captivante, remplie d'intrigues, de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants. J'adore la plume de l'auteur si addictive.

This book is coming out May 11, 2022. This story is by Author Florian Dennisson. The start off with a young male comes into the police precinct. The details are great in the beginning of the mystery book. The guy with a pungent smell, and a sickly homeless look said," I Killed them all". You know it will to be good story. This novel is wonderful you will meet other characters in the plot. A Detective Michael Monroe, Detective Emma Ann King, Captain Henry Saget, Lieutenant Boris Pavlowski, Sergeant Alsayed, Captain Assia Jenkins, and others that made the book flow so well. Detective Michael Monroe is skilled at Synergologist. Synergology is the discipline that enables us to decode gestures and decipher the workings of the human mind based on person's body language or non-verbal communication. Michael Monroe is so entertaining also a vegan. He loves animals. The man said he killed several people and give four names of the victims or people murder. And I love the relationship that hidden, nobody knowns about with Detective Michael Monroe. This has good twist and turns. It makes you follow with the storyline. I enjoyed this book. I can wait for another book by this author.

Un "twist" final bien pratique, mais peu inspiré ou convaincant. Comme cette histoire, selon moi. Je trouve les personnages super ennuyeux, particulièrement Maxime, alors que l'auteur semble avoir tout fait pour qu'il ne le soit surtout pas. C'est évidemment une question de goût, mais pour ma part, je l'ai trouvé ch**nt à mourir. Quant au récit, j'ai l'impression que tout était au second plan, voire carrément dans un coin au fond. Pas vraiment d'enquête, d'affaire, de sens, plutôt des prétextes pour s'attarder sur Maxime et ses problèmes. Mais vu que je le trouve aussi passionnant qu'une notice Ikea... La synergologie, bien que pas réellement exploitée, n'a pas du tout fonctionné pour moi, chaque passage ayant le même effet que s'il s'était mis à parler de petits lutins ou de tarot. 

Sans surprise donc, je n'ai pas du tout aimé. Ce n'est pas un livre pour moi.

Une liste énigmatique, un dénouement foudroyant.

Ce thriller est une réussite sobre et efficace. L'histoire est bien construite, avec une intrigue solide qui tient en haleine jusqu'à la fin. J'ai particulièrement apprécié le personnage principal : ses doutes profonds, sa détermination à comprendre et à résoudre l'enquête le rendent attachant et crédible.
Le dénouement m'a surprise par son originalité et son inventivité . une fin inattendue qui renouvelle le genre sans artifice excessif.
Les descriptions précises des lieux et des atmosphères nous plongent immédiatement dans l'action. Ce roman est taillé pour l'audio ; il aurait même gagné en lecture immersive (avec effet sonore).
Un ouvrage à lire absolument pour les amateurs de suspense. Bravo à l'auteur pour cette énigme bien ficelée. Un moment de lecture agréable. Maud AUDIO de PoDiau, voix des livres.

When an anonymous, disheveled, and obviously disturbed young man enters a police station repeatedly stating “I killed them all,” detectives rush to determine the truth. With careful questioning, the man writes down four names, and he doesn’t deviate from his statement – “I killed them all.”
Sergeant Michael Monroe is returning after an enforced absence from his police department, to find new members of the team and a new captain. While already dealing with acute anxiety, when this new case makes mention of his hidden past, Michael knows that he has to find the truth, but he also knows that it could ruin his future.
This book catches your attention from the first page and as we learn more about Michael and his past, while searching for the victims of a murderer, you feel swept away. This is definitely an interesting idea for a story, which has been written well, ensuring that they reader has no clue as to what has happened, until the end. I did feel that the ending seemed a little rushed and lacked the substance the rest of the book had shown, but this was an enjoyable read.

À la fois homme et enfant, impulsif et marqué par un stress post-traumatique, il se démarque de ses collègues grâce à sa formation de synergologue.
La Liste étant le premier tome d’une trilogie, j’imagine que l’on découvre toutes ses facettes au fil des romans.

⚡ Un thriller bien mené, au rythme soutenu, à l’intrigue parfaitement ficelée et au dénouement surprenant.
Je ne m’y attendais pas du tout !

Je le recommande aux amateurs du genre.

I enjoyed this suspensful story. This is a new author for me which i enjoyed from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. This is a well written story where the author used details to bring the story to life. This is a story about murderer who kills four people but he is not saying anything more about the killings. What happens next you don't want to miss. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters. They are connectable and made the story for me. The twists and turns had me turning pages fast just waiting to see what would happen next. I highly recommend this book.

Second roman de cet auteur que je lis et je suis déjà en train d'en commencer un troisième…
Ça peut laisser un indice sur si j'ai été conquise ou pas je pense !
Bon je ne dirai pas grand-chose, la révélation m'a fait penser à un film que j'ai adoré, dont je tairai le nom sinon ça vous gâcherait la surprise mais vous pouvez foncer si vous hésitez entre deux livres c'est forcément celui-ci qu'il vous faut.
Facile à comprendre, rapide à lire et distrayant, j'espère avoir le même sentiment avec le prochain !

A new author for me and a good read. This is a police procedural with the main character, Sergeant Michael Monroe, being a synergologist (yes I had to google it as well) but he is also damaged from his early life living in a cult with his parents. He isn’t a likeable character but he gets the job done. His methods are extreme at times and he makes little effort to interact with his colleagues.

Briefly, a man walks into a police station and confesses to 4 murders but all he will say is “I killed them“ and he writes a list of four names. Monroe has return to work after 60 days extended leave but he isn’t part of the investigation team. That is until he sees a card the man was carrying that came from the cult. But all the investigations lead to a dead end, four rooms all empty, some traces of blood, but no bodies and no clues where the three men and one woman are. Can the team track them down before it’s too late?

I thought this was a clever plot line which, after a slow start, moved at a cracking pace. I didn’t guess the shock ending, and I was led astray by more than one red herring. I do think the ending could probably have been tightened up a bit but all in all I enjoyed the book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A man voluntarily confesses to four murders, but then refuses to say anything else. Michael is back to the police force following a leave of absence. He is quick to insert himself into the investigation despite being told to leave it alone. He is highly skilled at nonverbals, and also has a mysterious link to the confessor.

I really wanted to like this story. The premise was very interesting, but the characters fell flat for me. The relationships seemed unrealistic and I just couldn’t make myself become invested in them. It’s possible that some of the “magic” of the story was lost in the translation? There were a lot of unanswered questions at the end; if it was set up for a sequel, they’ll probably remain unanswered for me. I really enjoyed some of the authors other works, so I won’t be giving up on him just yet.

The List was definitely a very different read for me with a storyline that kept changing right to the very end. The main protagonist, Michael Malone, a detective just back after being on leave is thrown right into a very bizarre case which appears to have connections with his past or so it seems. The story does appear to move slowly with many twists and turns around every corner. Interesting setting this novel in upstate New York because the location itself gives the impression that not much really happens there until you start digging and discover no area is without its secrets. A very unusual read that left me shaking my head at the very end.
