…especially when they’re plotting against each other.
A storm is brewing, pitting dragons against mortals, gods against Faie, and in the middle is Finn. Her magic is changing. Traps seem to lurk around every corner. The greatest trap of all, perhaps, is making a deal with a dragon, but she sees no other choice. If she doesn’t stand against the gods, no one will. Even if it means destroying who she is to become something else in the process.
Sea of Flames is the full length continuation of the Forest of Embers story arc. Scheduled release date is arbitrary and will be moved up accordingly.
Sara C. Roethle is a Fantasy author and part-time unicorn. She enjoys writing character driven stories in various fantasy realms with elements of Celtic and Norse myth, humor, and metaphysical ponderings.
Her series include:
Tree of Ages The Thief's Apprentice The Moonstone Chronicles Xoe Meyers Bitter Ashes
Finn is no longer the tree girl, she has been imbued with dragon blood and it is affecting her in many ways, it is changing who she is, as she is turning into a dragon girl. She realises that she can now consume magic and be strengthened by the magic she steals from, the fae. The trees start to fear her but she needs to become strong if she is to save her friends, she needs to become more dragon like to fight a war with the Gods, Arawn and Belenus. As usual a war between the vengeful Gods is drawing mere mortals and mages into their need to best one another, and Finn needs to stop them. She makes a pact with the fearful massive black dragon Ashclaw, he was to offer protection to Garenoch, the burgh where her friends and magic wielders lived in, whilst she set out to look for the Dearg Due to trick them, consume their magic and become strong enough to fight the Gods and deliver Belenus to Ashclaw to devour. However in changing she became dangerous to the magic wielders around her, especially to Kai and even to Iseult who had she been in her right frame of mind she would never hurt. Apart from the Gods she had to try and find Niklas and his Ceardaman as she knew that usually they were behind the troubles besieging all of them. She had ten days in which to change the entire balance of the land, bring all the fae under her rule, capture two Gods, save Kai’s family and others who had been trapped in a secondary realm and if she did not succeed, the protection she had attempted to provide for her friends, would turn into a death sentence for all of them. This is yet another gripping tale about Finn who always makes a martyr of herself to save everyone else but can she tackle all this when the clock is ticking? I love the characters in this series and the challenges they are forced to face which would daunt mere mortals but our heroes are none of them mere mortals and that is what makes them so special.
Just like the other books in the Tree of Ages, I was sucked in. I found myself up late and being a little late to work trying to finish this. Ill admit that I was a little confused with the characters at first and luckily I had that promo for that free month of kindle unlimited, so I was able to backtrack to her last book and get familiar with some of them ( which by the way is in no fault do to writing skills. Its been a while since I read book #6 and I wanted to make sure I understood things the first time around). The ending was like the ending to a good soap opera. You know something is just about to happen (or did happen) and then BAM! Sorry folks, gotta wait til next time. Im not one for spoilers, but if you enjoyed reading the other books in this series (and even if you HAVEN'T read them) you will enjoy this one. Im hoping that book #8 doesnt take too long. Im gonna be dying here. Oh yeah, and I suck at writing reviews. Sorry about that, but this IS a a really good book
This book took so long, and I was so excited to read it as soon as it came out. However, it didn't capture my attention as much as previous ones in the series. I actually read 2 books in between this book. There was a lot more of the story unfolding in this, and of course a lot more questions. I think the fight scenes could have been more climatic and Finn doesn't have to be so brooding all the time. Although I understand the author is trying to portray that she really does have the weight of the world on her shoulders. There were more proofreading errors than I expected in this book from this author, which is always a buzzkill. Nevertheless I am anxious to read the next book when it comes out.
I didn't get very far into this book before putting it down. This series has transformed in a way I don't care for.
Because I LOVE "Tree of Ages" and recommend everyone read those first books, I've given this book a respectful 3, but unfortunately I won't finish this book or be able to travel with Finn anymore. I miss the style from the older stories. It felt less forced and I had a lot more empathy with those characters than I do with these versions of them.
Anyway, I wish this series and its fans the best and I think it's cool if you still like the series, it just no longer appeals to me.
Just one more to go! The story/plot of the book just seems so haphazard. First couple of books, the important quest was completed, then another starts, then it goes on and on with alliances changing all the time and no one seems to know what's really going on (including me) New characters show up along with these new story lines, now there are gods and dragons and all new battle lines drawn. Former defeated/dead characters return as well. Why? Good question. anyway, determined to read the final book and hope that something is wrapped up to my satisfaction.
Things are not looking good for Finn, the lead in Sara C. Roethle’s Dawn of Magic: Sea of Flames (Tree of Ages Book 7). Chaos is on the way with dragons against mortals, and the gods against Faie. How she handles this, as well as her own skin transformation thanks yi though, is the stuff of fine story-making. Action, intrigue, thrills, excitement. This is great fun to read and highly recommended.
I am going to do a review on the series instead of doing each book individually. I enjoyed the first 3 books very much. unlike some "fantasy" series, this one has no sex in it so it is ok for teens. the last 2 "novellas" could've easily been one book and the last one left things hanging! I would've rated the last 2 novellas as a 3. I liked the variety of characters and they were well rounded for the most part.
Finn and her friends continue to build up the birth of Garenoch and prepare for the battles against Oighear and Belenus. Finn continues to eat faie and her power grows while he decides to destroy Belenneus. The dragon ashclaw protects the burgh while Finn goes to face her destiny. Belenus is defeated and things return to normal but Radley is building the an faich again. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Not sure if there’s anyone who has not read this series of books but what a treat they are. Still one book left to go but my finger is on the button to read the final. There is humor, not so humorous and sad parts that blend’s very together. I have never read where there’s so much cut throat, back stabbing, front stabbing, you name it from characters as there is in this series as well as love. This is really a great series.
This is book 7 of the Tree of Ages Series. I have to say, this series is so me of my favorites. I absolutely LOVE all the Characters in this book. Fin and her merry band of misfits. You literally fall in love with each person.
This book has magic, Fae, adventure, love, friendship, dragons. It’s truly a wonderful read. I can’t wait until the next one!
Why oh why do I always start to read unfinished series? I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series, I had no idea that I would enjoy it so much the twists and turns and the adventures that are had are enough to keep up the interest. My only bugbear is that I hate having to wait for the next book. Grrrrrrrr.
The Saga of Finn and the characters, both friend and foe , continues. The treachery is palpable throughout. Relationships among the characters are complicated and appear to be so as the series will continue.
This book was stretched out much further than necessary. This book wasn’t as good as the one before it. In fact the first one was the best and it’s been down hill from there.
A solid follow up in the series but more disappointed than previous books. Finn's ongoing challenges take her further removed from those she loves. Hey self sacrifice is becoming painfully dark as she challenges the gods and her own dragon nature.
I'm not 100% convinced of the storyline of Finn sharing her immortality again and slowly turning into a dragon. I thought it would be good to read about what they faced after breaking the barrier etc but not sure I like where the story is going hence the 3 stars.
Again a great read by Sara C. Roethle. I am not much a reader of fantasy, occasionally I venture into this genre. Sara C. Roethle’s books are well worth it. I enjoy her writing very much! Also it’s a great way to escape from reality 😉
Finn and her friends are still here fighting for the life they know they deserve, against gods and other enemies alike. Finn is now part dragon after saving her dragon Naoki, this comes with its own set of problems.
I love this series and can't wait to see where the tale goes in the next book.
Read books up to # 7 and they kept me wanting more. The names were a little hard to pronounce but kept on reading. Loved the storys. Can't wate to read more.
As always I love this series and all the characters but this wasn’t as good as the previous 6 books. Still fab though - just not sure I’m a fan of Finn being what she is now.
I love Morgan Rice! Her books tell stories that entrance you with characters that seem real. I love this one as much as I have all the others in this series!
Though I mostly enjoyed revisiting these characters, this novel felt transitional and unsatisfying. Branwen is so horrid now and she had too much page time. Finn is changing again, and not for the better. :/ I think this book just needed more than one happy character (there is one!), as she doesn't get enough page time to brighten the book by herself.
Great series! Sara writes such a beautiful series with characters that will stay alive in your mind all through it. Love her style! Highly recommended.
