About the author

Erich Fromm, Ph.D. (Sociology, University of Heidelberg, 1922) was a German-American social psychologist, psychoanalyst, sociologist, humanistic philosopher, and democratic socialist. He was a German Jew who fled the Nazi regime and settled in the United States. He was one of the founders of The William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology in New York City and was associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory.

Fromm explored the interaction between psychology and society, and held various professorships in psychology in the U.S. and Mexico in the mid-20th century.

Fromm's theory is a rather unique blend of Freud and Marx. Freud, of course, emphasized the unconscious, biological drives, repression, and so on. In other words, Freud postulated that our characters were determined by biology. Marx, on the other hand, saw people as determined by their society, and most especially by their economic systems.

sposób w jaki fromm pisze o miłości jest po prostu piękny, nie jestem w stanie tego nazwać inaczej. warto też zwrócić uwagę na jego teorię na temat różności między płciami, która, choć nie zgadzam się z nią w 100%, jest moim zdaniem bardzo wartościowa. również świetna analiza biblijnej opowieści o stworzeniu świata jako manifestu kultury patriarchalnej. nie wszystkie rozdziały są tak samo zajmujące, ale i tak jest to pozycja godna polecenia.

I especially liked the final part about love and how important is to love oneself.

I really enjoyed how precise are Fromm insights, at the same time being free of any unnecessary judgement.

The parts about matriarchal structures and sex were also very interesting. They allowed me to realize some unhealthy social mechanisms within myself. I am extremely grateful for that :)

Erich Fromm has some incredible insights in to love and relationships. His theories are much easier to comprehend on a theoretical abstract level than to apply them to real life situations where human emotions are heightened. But interesting, nonetheless.

Si vamos a hablar de psicólogos, no caben dudas que uno de los mejores es Erich Fromm. No usa los conceptos retorcidos de Freud, ni de Lacan. Otro excelente es Carl Jung, pionero en descubrir enfermedades como la histeria y su cura, a veces con métodos no tan normales (si, usaba la electricidad - ver "Un Método Peligroso").

Zastanawia mnie dobór artykułów składających się na jej całość. Osobno są świetne, ale połączone wywołują lekką irytację. Podział na części nie pomaga, a nawet uwydatnia niedopasowanie.
