A brand Western adventure from the author of "Clint Clay - The Texan Avenger!"
Jake Timber is a tortured man, repaying his debt to society for avenging the brutal murders of his wife and daughter. In his work as a special agent, tasked with ridding the territory of criminals, he takes no prisoners, and gives no mercy. His job is to hunt down wanted men, asking no questions before delivering his own brand of justice through the barrel of a gun. While traveling through the territory, Timber finds himself in the middle of a turf war in the town of Heaven Brook, where he helps bring an end to the tyranny of two powerful men.
Recently I have been reading some long and complex books. I was looking for a short, simple book to read. This book fit the bill. I enjoy a good western, but new authors to the genre are hard to find. I had read several of Robert Hanlon’s books. So I decided to try book one of a new series about Jake Timber, a United States Marshall.
This was a more or less average western except I felt the author attempted to make the protagonist, Jake Timber, a super hero. In a fast draw he shoots four men lined up against him and Timber takes a bad beating then is up and after the bad men the next day. I wish the author would be realistic and not try to overdo the action. Otherwise, the good guys were good and the bad guys were bad as in all western stories. I am willing to try more books in the series. The book makes a perfect action get-away story.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is two hours and 40 minutes. Ken O’Brien does a good job narrating the book. O’Brien has a good voice for narrating a western story. I believe this is my first experience listening to him read.
I'm not new to Timber, but decided to finally read the book that started it all. Its basically Timber in Yojimbo (A Fistful of Dollars, Last Man Standing, etc.), pretty much follows that formula beat by beat. Not necessarily a bad thing, its a fast moving tale and Timber is a fun lead. Timber pits two rival gangs against each other to save a town from their influence.
Recommended not a bad start to the long running series.
I like Timber, as he is a man of few words and very good when he decides to take action. This novel starts strong and only gets better with each new episode. There is never a dull moment throughout the entire story and there is a little secret conspiracy that you will also enjoy.
Action? Most definitely. This is a dynamite entertainment story, as you just never know what Timber has in store at any time and the ongoing activity never ceases to amaze me. Five stars worthy and the characters never wavered from one bitter conflict to the next. Just prepare to read the entire book without any hesitation, as you will be as hooked as I was.
The storylines were descriptively descriptively perfect. I was practically mesmerized from beginning to end. Believe me, I have read many books in my lifetime and this one ranks very high on my top ten list. I was overwhelmed at time as to the author's exceptional abilities in presenting each and every detailed episode throughout the entire process. Mr. Hanlon is definitely one of my favorite western adventure writers, as he apparently has his readers interest at heart!
Most definitely recommend this book to you avid readers of our real old western folklore as you will get your full intent f exciting gunplay, bad guys VS bad guys, and the good guys VS the bad guys. Do not miss this very entertaining and especially heartwarming travel through what I believe represents the true western adventures in action!
Justice to all and for all. Greedy men who steal from the poor, these men never work or take a bath either, but they know how to bully, rape, murder without blinking and eye. Timber is the Town Cleaner for the entire territory appointed by the Territorial Judge and backed by the Governor of the Territory. This is how Timber's is completing his probation until the Judge and Governor feel that he's fulfilled his probation requirements..such is life.
A Western About A Court Appointed U.S. Marshal With A Kill Order
RH has penned a western novel, number (1) , if the Timber series. A man pardoned by the Governor to stop the violence in West Texas. He has a "Dead or Alive" warrant. He proceeded to a small town where two wealthy miners are at War with each other. The fight continues until the town becomes the owners of both mines. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Holy gunfights! I loved Louis L'Amour and his ability to take a hero into insurmountable odds, but WOW. Not sure where the second book is going, since the author killed off half the state of Montana. All the gunfighter in the history of gunfighters came into the small town to take over then face Timber...
The story flowed well and presented some interesting strategies. When powerful men get out of hand, someone needs to take them down a notch or two. Timber is that man.
This was an excellent western with tons of action, shootouts, bad guys and suspense. I enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. I would heartily recommend it.
Timber, A man with horrible nightmares and life that was change more than once overnight was someone I want to read more about. I believe there will be more arrest shoot outs cleanup in this series. Throughly. Enjoyed the book.
It was interesting I could never get fully involved with the characters it seem to be a little bit out of this world With at least I had no foul language which is a real plus we will be trying another 1Maybe they'll get better as they go thank you
I REALLY enjoyed this. I read a lot of westerns and like that this was short, lots of action, and no love interest. Best one I’ve read in quite a while.
If you like gun fights, this is a good choice. Timber shoots first most times, starts a war between two very greedy men, and is almost killed. What a story!
