Awhile ago, I sent out a note, and I hope it reached you just as this letter does. Argos, that mysterious little town that I spoke of last time, carried a secret I never would have expected, but that secret saved my life.
Well, if I’m being honest, it was the men. You know, those oh so sexy men that I had said were around every corner? They saved my life, and have become more important to me than I’m willing to admit out loud. They make me feel like I could really start over here. Be someone. But there’s something wrong with me. The past still haunts me, and the present feels like it’s slipping away.
The guys...they were what grounded me, carried me when I could hardly stand, held me when the tears overflowed. They did their best to save my soul, but was there anything left to save? I feel like they’re trying to find the real me, but the real me is...lost.
I often wondered to myself if being lost would be frightening...or liberating? -Signed, The Girl With No Name.
Tied To The Sea is a slow burn, ‘why choose’ romance with some M/M, M/F/M, M/M/F themes.
Warning. This book contains adult language, sexual content, graphic violence, and deals with sensitive issues such as suicide, depression, anxiety disorder, and PTSD. Reader discretion is advised.
3.5 stars/5. This book was better than the first only in that we don't keep dancing around the obvious - yes Atty their Mer. The guys were nice and attentive, and we got some of their backstory- Hip, Jason, and even at the end the truth about Theseus' identity- though not his accident. We even get the big reveal on Atalanta's PTSD and the truth of that- why she holds that last part of who she is from them is beyond me- you told everything else. (Eye-roll). While I liked the action and progress, I was somewhat irritated with the added drama of Calder and the council. It was an obvious choice that I wish we could get away from in bad guys. It made the book somewhat predictable and boring after the 1st 50-60%. Atty doesn't seem to ask the right questions either: How to solidify the bond? Will only Jason have a bond with her and not the others?
I guess uh.. shit. I really want the next book like right fucking now but uh.. I'm not normally someone that enjoys mermaid shit. Like normally I think it's stupid and makes no sense or is all girly and snippy and doesn't appeal to me. HOWEVER, this was most certainly nothing of the sort.
I was drawn to it from the first moment and haven't put it down since I started it. The story line was spectacular and left very little to be desired. I was happy with the relationships building and how I can see that they will continue to build.
The Boys- Ajax- God.. I can't even fucking begin to feel for him. I mean we know about Aria, and we know that she's dead because of something that apparently happened where he couldn't save her. But god, living with the fact of that and having to deal with everyone elses emotions must be overwhelming as fuck no wonder he hardly spoke.
Theseus- Alright, his character was beautifully written. Many authors I've seen cannot write deaf people for shit. They embarrass themselves more often than not. However, this was incredible. It didn't hinder him in a major way but you got to see a bit of the struggle that came with it. ALSO HES A FUCKING PRINCE??? I'm very intrigued in his story and am sorely disappointed that I wasn't given more of it before I had to wait.
Percival- Screw you man. I fucking love you. You big moody bastard. Also I love that he was a different 'breed' than the others. I mean a deep sea mer is fucking great. I have so many depictions of what he looks like in my head it's insane. But I loved him a ton. Also he's a cunt for making Jason wait so long just saying.
Jason- sigh.. I liked him. I thought he was cute in like a lost puppy sort of way. His crush on Percy was cute, and I'm glad it was reciprocated but honestly Jason was probably my least favorite. I get that he and Atty basically were mated but he was already bitchy and clingy before that shit and then it got worse when that happened. It just kind of pissed me off.
Hip- BRO I love you. that shit he pulled at lunch with the food, mmm we love a man that pays attention. Sigh, I wish I knew what was going on with him. We got glimpses that something was up but nothing concrete like what obviously happened to Theseus. I wish it was more.
Anyways, between all five of them, I am now in a raging faggot mode and desperately want to screwed my mermen so.. Avery Thorn, I salute you. Excellent writing.
Some unclaire spoilera. 3 1/2 stars just cause I loved the first 50 % or so
Oh loved the start of this book. Ate it up. But it became mixed and drama , convos that should have been had. Felt that about 80% in the men lost that hot strong j/p thing. A little turn off. Then just drama on drama . Then just fluff poof. Just felt blah at the end. Not the feeling u want at the end of a book. Just this book made me not be interested in reading anything about ths mer world, like if a book contacted to this mer world i would not buy it. Just felt cold about that. Hoping that the next will make me feel like they have a strong base and just something. So want the mer to be redeemed to me.
Although I did not enjoy this as much as the first, I still couldnt put it down.
More is revealed about Atalanta's past, the Mer people (am I saying that correctly?) and there is M/M.
Just felt really slow. The guys kept being secretive, and I found myself having more questions than answers. Also, when Atalanta went all badass warrior in the hospital, WTF were the guys doing other than spectating and getting stabbed? I thought there would be more of a fight.
Atalanta's relationship progresses with Jason and Percy, her and Hip share a sweet kiss.
Looking forward to continuing this story, and finding out more about the characters, what happened to Cal, Atalanta's memory and Percy and Jason's relationship.
(Still kinda mad at Jason for how he treated Atalanta at the end of the last book, I dont care that she forgave him...... BUT he does seem to suffer lots in this, so maybe I forgive him a little)
I loved the first book but in this one I was kind of annoyed by a lot of things. There was a lot of poetic writing. Every little thing needed a big explanation with examples. It was all so flowery. Plus there were moments where she was given big hints by the bad guy and she didn't make that link. You have gaps in your memories and the bad guy starts talking about the Nolan movie Momento. A movie about someone with memory problems and you don't make that link. And they (the guys) don't communicate at all. They are attacked but the others don't know because they basically forgot to tell the others. But the story is still so good that I want to read the next one.
This picks up right where book 1 ends, with the handler at the door and far too many unanswered questions - between ALL of them. The narrative progresses smoothly, offering space for the characters to get to know each other, while still making it clear that they really don’t, not yet. There’s a connection, surely, but it’s in the front of their minds that it’s only been a little bit of time... and trust is a hard road to forge. I liked it.
This poor woman has gone through so much it just makes me want to cry. So much happens in this book I couldn't even begin to describe it. Just buckle in and prepair. We learn more backstory and uncover some startling truths. Relationship wise we move foward and I think it's just the right speed for the story but its definitely slow burn. Come for the story stay for the romance. Definately a fantasy book 1 action book 2 romance book 3
I really enjoyed book one, and upon reading the afterword, I scrapped my original review for book 2. I didn't want to be too harsh so I'll just say that this second book wasn't as good as it could have been but it was a good story. The editing let it down, unfortunately. I'll read more from this series when it releases because the story is good, I hope to see improvement as the author & her team grow.
Better than the first book 😉 can really relate to the mfc even though were nothing alike. Atty is amazing with her struggles but continues on. ☺️ Love that this is more even between pov not just mainly atty. Wish her sister would make miraculous appearance. Can't wait to read more. JL
Beautiful sequel. I NEED MORE!!!!! Started strong ended strong. Only somewhere at about 60-70% was rythm was lost but regained and had a beautiful completion. This is like an epic story where I expect this to be mutiple books...I seriously can't wait for this adventure to continue. CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE!! GIVE ME MORE!!
So I feel as if the story hasn't really progressed despite this entire book. Everyone still had their secrets and we still don't even know her real name. Not a single story line progressed. Don't get me wrong the characters are solid, but they just aren't moving forward. And no third book? Just to be continued.. that was disappointing.
Book two is even better than the first! The storytelling is awesome! The characters are so well crafted....seriously talented author! Can’t wait for book three! Now I need to sleep off the book hangover.
I was so excited to see the second book released! It was just as wonderful as the first and I can’t wait for the third. I really hope Atlanta gets to keep her men, and I hope Hip learns where he comes from. Oh and Jason’s uncle can go jump off a cliff.
I loved this book so much. There’s a lot to unpack in this book, and you find out what happened in Atalanta’s past. The different characters were interesting and the little jabs at the antagonist were awesome.
Really enjoyed this book! Flow was great, continued story line and hints of past were well written. I just wished the men had a little more of a back bone. Just a smidge. Overall can, I can’t wait for the next book.
Quick question. Is there going to be a third book? I am enjoying the series, but seeing as it was released almost 4 yrs ago and there have been no notes about a 3rd book I am wondering if Ms Thorn will not be finishing the series.
I am really enjoying this series, I am really enjoying the relationship dynamics that are developing between Atalanta and her men and seeing how the men are all maturing and becoming a more cohesive unit. Looking forward to the next one.
A page turning book for sure! I love seeing how the characters grow with each event and how it would lead to more clues about their past. Highly recommend
Fantastic continuation of a great start. Now Atalanta is a turned mermaid by Jason. Her family handler comes to play in this story. Will she trust the guys to help her? And how will she cope with the circumstances. Very tough situations. Add in the town council that tell the guys turned mermaids need to be reported... love this story and can't wait for more by this author.
