They called the sixties and seventies – ‘The Permissive Society’. When you are not quite the same as everyone else, society can be anything but permissive. It can be hateful, prejudicial, discriminatory and downright nasty. Young Leslie Collins was the only and unplanned child of a single mother who had a problem – she liked men far too much – all men – any men and very often. Having trained as a professional dancer, she slipped down the career tree to work as an exotic dancer, or put another way – a stripper. Join the pair of them as they travel from Britain to the Continent and back, from poverty to relative wealth, but facing all manner of problems that follow a ranging nymphomaniac who is ‘discovered’ by the pornographic movie business and her gender confused child. While the mother leaps from bed to bed, Leslie has to face problems of a very different kind, and mostly alone. This is a coming-of-age tale with a difference The author returns to the familiar style of story that she originally posted many years ago to launch her career in writing. As her editor observed – not a spaceman or miracle in sight! Oh, a happy ending is probably guaranteed.
Tanya Allan is a prolific writer of various works, including novels, short stories and poetry. Some of her work, relating to transgender issues, may be familiar to those who feel that perhaps life would have been easier had they been born with a body and mind of the same gender. She is in the process of publishing all other work under the same name.
Tanya is now settled in the southern half of the United Kingdom (sometimes known as England). Born and educated in Scotland, and having experienced well over a half-century of life, in a myriad of guises, mostly involved keeping the realm safe and secure from enemies, both domestic and foreign, Tanya has a more sedate life now, concentrating on grandchildren, dogs, travel and writing.
The title says a lot about this story. A poor girl trapped as a bit with a living but erratic parent. This story grabs you from the start and has many interesting characters including the hero/heroine of the tale and her mother. Great read
