Set during the early days of The Team (hence 'The Early Missions', I suppose), these tie-in issues to the ongoing Young Justice cartoon attempt to fill in some gaps and enhance some of the stories that the show didn't have time to fit in.

It's easy to write most of these stories off as unnecessary; the show does a good job of bringing The Team together and working on their character dynamics during the first season, but more of a good thing can never be bad. The highlights of the volume as a result are the two-part camping trip story, and the two issue Artemis introduction.

It's actually the issues that are more straight forward superheroic stuff like the three part Clayface story at the end or even the opening Joker story that are a bit more off-putting since they don't really have the time to do the character work because the superheroics get in the way which seems to defeat the object of the series.

The artwork begins with Mike Norton before he passes the baton to Christopher Jones midway through; both do a great job of evoking the visual feel of the show, and there's not too much difference between them. Guest artist Luciano Vecchio also manages to fit in easily although there are glimpses of his more distinctive style as well.

With Greg Weisman's guiding hand on the rudder, these Young Justice comics are a solid inclusion to the canon, even if it does sometimes forget its own reason for existing.

Fantastic series! This is a tie-in comic series that really ties into the show it’s based on. I was rewatching the first season of the show and I tried reading this alongside the show, and it got a little confusing/overwhelming for me so I had to put this aside. Either way, this was a fun read, and if you’re not too familiar with the show, this series does explain the backstories of the core members of the team. One thing that really took me by surprise was how the last few issues took on this mature tone, like for a moment I felt like I was reading a regular comic instead of a kids comic, so I appreciated seeing that. The artwork was fine for a comic like this, and I think it captured the look of the show adequately.

Overall, if you liked watching Young Justice, you’ll love reading it!

A great addition to the TV-series Young Justice, perfectly filling gaps and fleshing out characters even more than the show already does. As someone who's watched the series multiple times through already, I found myself in awe of how well these story-lines perfectly tie into published episodes and now I'm wondering why I took so long to pick these up for a read.

A great and easy read, definitely rec to anyone who loves DC Comics.

I first saw clips on the young justice cartoon on TikTok. That led to me binge watching all 4 seasons. I loved the show so much I wanted to check out the tie in comics. The comics are just as great and give more background in between the first season episodes.

Thoroughly enjoyable. The art managed to capture the style of the television show, while the writing was just as excellent. These issues really fill in a bunch of gaps from season 1 of Young Justice. 1st time read. 4/5.

Fun! I think the comics definitely recaptured the charm of the show - loved how the comics filled in the blanks a little bit too. Also - do I ship Bruce and Talia now?

Idk what I expected from this book, but it was actually pretty entertaining. Season 1 of Young Justice is just legendary and one of the best things DC has ever put out in my opinion, so if you ever watched that and just wanted more of it, this book has it! Its so nice to see the early missions of the original team, and see just parts of the story expanded. Like stuff mentioned in the show was actually put in the book and it was really fun to read. My favorite stories were the campfire, the Captain Atom one, Artemis’ intro, and Clayface’s origin. Except the Captain Atoms one left on a cliffhanger which I don’t appreciate and it wont be explained. What I found interesting was the amount of deaths and fails this team goes thru. Seeing them fail in their first missions was kind of crazy, especially that mission where the person they are trying to save gets lost and yes 😵. i love the show and the book didnt do it wrong.

A fantastic tie-in to the Young Justice TV show. This comic is in exact continuity with the events in the show's first season and helps fill in some of the gaps between episodes. If you are unfamiliar with the show, the stories won't have the same impact, and some may even feel unfinished. But for fans of the TV series, this is a strong recommend.
