General Cherry Lindstrom is responsible for the defense of the colony world, Concordia. This last outpost of human civilization lives under constant threat of attack from hostile aliens who claim the planet as their own.
But decades have passed since the last assault, and the colonists have grown complacent. Thanks to the effects of time dilation, only Cherry and a handful of others remember the devastation wreaked on Concordia previously.
The Concordians don’t understand the danger the colony is in. Cherry must find a way to convince them and to build effective fighting force—before it’s too late.
Two galactic civilizations. One planet. Who will win?
Humanity’s Fight is book two in the second part of the space colonization epic, Space Colony One.
J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.
Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Picking up several years after their return from the interstellar mission this volume concentrates on Cherry, Wilder and Kes. Concordia has changed immensely during their extended absence and measures to meet the threat posed by the threatened return of the Scythians continue. A delegation from the Galactic Assembly brings information that casts light on just why the Scythians are interested in the planet - but the delegation breaks off discussion and leaves when a Scythian fleet is sighted.
While the main characters are familiar from the previous books time has moved on - courtesy of the time-dilation effect - and the climax is the next stage of the fight to retain a human presence on the planet - and in the universe. As in earlier volumes the pace is relentless - these are real page-turners. Well worth following from the beginning!
J.J. Green is a pro at writing space operas. I thoroughly enjoyed her original Space Colony One series and am now getting totally engrossed in its sequel series, Space Colony One, Part Two. This is addictive stuff as evidenced by my non-stop binge read of this new series three books, Interstellar Mission, Humanity's Fight and Final Onslaught. This is both an epic space colonization adventure (the colony here, Concordia, is the last gasp for humanity) and an intense look at what drives people. It’s cast, especially star Cherry Lindstrom, are all complex and well designed, and it’s nemesis, the alien Scythians, scarily well done. Strong plots and story arc all blend into one thrilling and fun read. I’m happy to strongly recommend these books.
As the Humans prepare to fight the Scythians for the right to remain on Concordia they are helped by the Fila.
The Parvus have visited and spoken of their intention to help but to them the intention is more important than the action of helping. Will they come to the aid of the Humans?
All of the strong characters from the previous books are there although time has taken its toll on some of them.
Once again the humans are involved in a battle for survival with the Scythians. What will the outcome be? I can’t wait to read the next book to find out.
In this book, our heroes must adjust to life in a new era. 50 Earth years have passed while they were off planet due to time dilation and most people they knew are gone. The focus shifts to character drama for much of this book, and there are a lot of interpersonal conflicts that will challenge our characters to their limits. But among all this there are new revelations about the aliens that are threatening to destruction of all human life. And it seems this planet still has some secrets to be uncovered, which is always welcome. This all culminates in a thrilling action climax as should be expected for the series. Another thrilling installment.
The fight for humanitys survival continues, though the original actual battle is now only remembered by a scant few. Life is busy as the colony seems to flourish, though far superior tech is monitering their advances, waiting for the right moment to strike. I just love how this series makes me feel as I follow the colonys dreams, hopes and fears. All in all its an excellent continuation of this exciting series. The travails of humanity continue as they have joined the alliance but of it enough for their survival when the Scythians return for tribute. Is humanity’s memory of alien attack fading too much in the decades gone by? Will Cherry survive with only one arm? The tales told are likely an finely aged cheese.
Over the decades, Concordia has made enormous sacrifices to prepare for the hostile aliens return - will it be enough - can they save their world? This tale gets us close to the answer and sets up the next book well. Enjoyable!
The travellers are out-of-their-time. The people that they knew are now dead - or at least a lot older. The colony has been thriving in their absence and the threat of the Scythians is being forgotten.
For some reason this book was too confusing for me continue reading. I had to stop after only three chapters. I was surprised as I usually like J.J. Green's books.

‘Humanity’s Fight’ picks up six years after ‘Interstellar Mission’. We see how those who left the colony are (or are not) slotting into life on Concordia. We are also given an excellent tour of the planet with its cities, its industry, and particularly its hidden defences, as the colonists prepare for the return of the Sythians, although this is an event that many may have ceased to believe in.
As always with Green’s tales, there’s plenty of meaty character development and the introduction of a species that doesn’t quite follow the ‘rules’ of human interaction. I love the continued assertion that other sentient lifeforms need not comply with human values or thought processes.
It’s fascinating to see how the colony, and the colonists, have developed. There are some lovely stories involving the characters we’ve grown to love. But the big ticket here is, of course, the return of the Sythians who we learn are very attached to the planet. There are some, presumably intentional, similarities between the Sythians past and the environmental crisis that is now reality for us on Earth today. Very topical!
Intriguingly, there’s a mystery that begins on page 1 and remains unresolved by the end of the book. I have my thoughts but I’ll probably be proved wrong in the next instalment!
‘Humanity’s Fight’ is another triumph of the space opera genre. It’s an easy, engaging read that really delivers both as a very human story and as a military engagement. To be honest, if you’ve read the previous books in the series, you already know you need to buy this one. And if you’re considering starting your adventure with ‘Space Colony One’, all I can say is that the series doesn’t disappoint and the quality doesn’t wane as we reach book 5. Really enjoyable.
This is a gripping continuation of the Space Colony One saga. J.J. Green's "The Space Colony One" series began with a colony ship carrying the last of humanity landing on a new world, previously identified as a good bet for settlement. They have fought battles between colonist factions, and an invasion from space -- survived and thrived
Over the years, the Colony has grown and prospered, life is good, but some haven't forgotten the threat of the Scythians. Cherry is trying to keep the fear alive and train the colonists for the return of the Scythians. The problem is that it has been a long time since they last attacked and most don't believe they will ever return. But soon they just might have an unwelcome visitor. Can they be appeased wth a tribute, or will this be the end of humanity.
There is a great blend of action and insight into human behavior in this 5-star series.

The last attack came decades ago and the colonists are starting to forget the threat. Can our heroine remind them the threat still exists before it is too late?
This is the second book in the series. While the story itself is fairly self contained, a lot of the backstory is missing. I would recommend starting with the first book in the series.
This is a space opera series about colonizing a new planet and the trials thereof, not the least of which is hostile aliens. The story is very well written with a detailed plot with lots of interesting twists and turns. The characters are also well developed with their own quirks, both good and bad. The story is getting more intense as we go along and the plot is still engaging and kept me interested right up to the end. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Highly recommended.

I enjoyed the characters and the story. Although as a stand alone offering it picks up the plot and characters in progress, it did have the feel of a complete story with some nice hooks into the next book in the series. J.J. Green has created a wonderful world, and my only complaint would be that we didn't get to learn and see more of it. I enjoyed the interplay between the characters, particularly the main characters interacting with the minor characters their situations. It's nice to see the different personalities come out. Overall an enjoyable read. Four of five stars. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Continuing the saga of our little colony in peril, the colonists who went on the journey to gather alien support have readjusted to being back home yet, have they really? This story revolves around them to a great degree. The ending, although a cliffhanger, is explosive and you won't believe what is happening to the Fila.

Epic science fiction - part of a series but can be read as stand-alone. Characters I care about, including members of an interesting aquatic alien race, trying to defend their home (a human colony) from an aggressive alien race that seems determined to destroy all life on the planet. Recommended!

Utopia; comforts just like old earth – but General Candy doesn't buy it. A gripping continuation of the Space Colony One saga. The author has built a story of interpersonal relationships; exciting new discoveries; and anticipation of future events within and outside of the community. Followers of this story will enjoy this update. New readers are advised to seek out the beginning books in the series for a heart-pounding and thrilling ride. Another page-turner. We follow Cherry, Kes and Wilder mostly in this volume. Several years have passed since they returned from their mission to find a greatly changed Concordia. A delegation from the Galactic Assembly arrives but departs in haste as the Scythian return appears imminent - just as an important find on the other continent is made...
It was truly wonderful to visit Concordia again. To see familiar characters like Cherry, Ethan and Aubriol. To watch as they learn and find ways to live in safety. Almost. J.J. Green has developed a most interesting storyline, enhanced by comprehensive world building and multidimensional characters. And there’s action. And tears. It’s a book you won’t want to put down!
A continuation of humanities struggle to survive in a universe that seems to be focused on their destruction. I love the characters and how they struggle to work through their issues.

This series is so very good. I have enjoyed the journey with the last of humanity and have faith that we will persevere. The struggles and friendships come to a huge climax and the fate of the colony is uncertain. I can't wait for the next one !.....
