Charles Monroe Schulz was an American cartoonist, whose comic strip Peanuts proved one of the most popular and influential in the history of the medium, and is still widely reprinted on a daily basis.
Schulz's first regular cartoons, Li'l Folks, were published from 1947 to 1950 by the St. Paul Pioneer Press; he first used the name Charlie Brown for a character there, although he applied the name in four gags to three different boys and one buried in sand. The series also had a dog that looked much like Snoopy. In 1948, Schulz sold a cartoon to The Saturday Evening Post; the first of 17 single-panel cartoons by Schulz that would be published there. In 1948, Schulz tried to have Li'l Folks syndicated through the Newspaper Enterprise Association. Schulz would have been an independent contractor for the syndicate, unheard of in the 1940s, but the deal fell through. Li'l Folks was dropped from the Pioneer Press in January, 1950.
Later that year, Schulz approached the United Feature Syndicate with his best strips from Li'l Folks, and Peanuts made its first appearance on October 2, 1950. The strip became one of the most popular comic strips of all time. He also had a short-lived sports-oriented comic strip called It's Only a Game (1957–1959), but he abandoned it due to the demands of the successful Peanuts. From 1956 to 1965 he contributed a single-panel strip ("Young Pillars") featuring teenagers to Youth, a publication associated with the Church of God.
Peanuts ran for nearly 50 years, almost without interruption; during the life of the strip, Schulz took only one vacation, a five-week break in late 1997. At its peak, Peanuts appeared in more than 2,600 newspapers in 75 countries. Schulz stated that his routine every morning consisted of eating a jelly donut and sitting down to write the day's strip. After coming up with an idea (which he said could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours), he began drawing it, which took about an hour for dailies and three hours for Sunday strips. He stubbornly refused to hire an inker or letterer, saying that "it would be equivalent to a golfer hiring a man to make his putts for him." In November 1999 Schulz suffered a stroke, and later it was discovered that he had colon cancer that had metastasized. Because of the chemotherapy and the fact he could not read or see clearly, he announced his retirement on December 14, 1999.
Schulz often touched on religious themes in his work, including the classic television cartoon, A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), which features the character Linus van Pelt quoting the King James Version of the Bible Luke 2:8-14 to explain "what Christmas is all about." In personal interviews Schulz mentioned that Linus represented his spiritual side. Schulz, reared in the Lutheran faith, had been active in the Church of God as a young adult and then later taught Sunday school at a United Methodist Church. In the 1960s, Robert L. Short interpreted certain themes and conversations in Peanuts as being consistent with parts of Christian theology, and used them as illustrations during his lectures about the gospel, as he explained in his bestselling paperback book, The Gospel According to Peanuts, the first of several books he wrote on religion and Peanuts, and other popular culture items. From the late 1980s, however, Schulz described himself in interviews as a "secular humanist": “I do not go to church anymore... I guess you might say I've come around to secular humanism, an obligation I believe all humans have to others and the world we live in.”

I think we’ve established by now that whenever I find a new Peanuts collection I’m going to be compelled to tell you all about it. I grew up with these characters, both on screen and in books, and no matter what other comics find their way into my heart there will always be a special peanut shaped space reserved for Charlie Brown and his friends.

Eudora, one of my favourite minor characters, returns and this time she’s a student in Sally’s class rather than her summer camp friend. Sally introduces her to Charlie Brown.
description
The other characters are doing what they usually do. Lucy’s presence is a constant irritation to Schroeder, who just wants to be left in peace with his music. Peppermint Patty and Marcie are in class, while Linus is home in bed. Lucy suspects he’s faking his illness.
description
Snoopy antagonises the cat next door and plays hockey with Woodstock. Charlie Brown faces off against the kite eating tree. Lucy sulks and Peppermint Patty acknowledges defeat.
description
I always love comics that focus on Peppermint Patty and in this collection she falls in love!
description
She even gives what may be her best answer in class.
description
For some reason, while I love all of the other characters, I rarely find Snoopy funny. There were a lot of comics of him taking Woodstock and the rest of the troop on hikes and trying to figure out what type of bird Woodstock is. I’d much rather spend more time with the kids.

Overall it was still a lot of fun. I’m ready for the next collection now!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this collection.

Charles M. Schulz’s Charlie Brown: All Tied Up is a wonderful, funny, and nostalgic full-colour collection filled with the adventures of our favorite Peanuts gang.

I had so much fun reading this cute collection! I love Charlie Brown and Snoopy so this book is right up my alley. These funny little comic strips are easy to read, relatable, and filled with great little puns and some lovely moments of insight. I particularly like the sweet little nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout. We follow the gang throughout the year as they have misadventures with class assignments, go on field trips, and try to win their baseball games. Charlie Brown struggles with the kite eating tree, Peppermint Patty has an unexpected romance with Pig-Pen, Lucy keeps trying her best to win Schroeder's heart, and Sally struggles with her homework. However, everyone’s favorite beagle Snoopy has the most adventures: from leading Woodstock and his troupe through some memorable hikes to flying Schroeder to music camp.

This is a fun, classic, and quick read. It is a great collection for those of us who are faithful readers of Peanuts. It is also perfect for new readers, especially the younger ones. I definitely recommend this to everyone who is looking for a light and cute but meaningful read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for this book in exchange for an honest review.

A compilation of comic strips featuring Charlie Brown and the gang shows that the strips and humor are just as relevant now as they were when they were first published. Charlie Brown continues to hope for a win as he plays baseball and tries to fly a kite, Lucy keeps hoping that true love is waiting for her on the piano keys, and Peppermint Patty finds something special in Pigpen as they dance the night away at a Valentine's bash. Some of my favorite strips feature Sally, Charlie Brown's little sister, as she tackles homework and gives reports in school. Her posture as she talks to her teacher, who isn't visible, is simply perfect. I loved being able to revisit characters who were such an important part of my own childhood and read these through a different, older lens.

MY THOUGHTS:

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I've been reading the Peanuts for forever, it seems. Charlie Brown has been a staple for people of my generation and for all those that followed. Everyone should know who Charlie Brown is. For that matter, they should know: Pigpen, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, Linus, Woodstock, and let's not forget Snoopy!

There's all kinds of fun in all the pages and a pull-out poster inside too. At the back you'll find a page on how to make a kite, an edible Woodstock nest, and some fun facts about the Peanuts...
The pages are in full color, and I am so happy I got this book to add to my collection. For those who never read a Charlie Brown comic/book, this would be an excellent one to start with. You get to delve into some of the main characters woes and hilarious ways of solving problems, like Charlie Brown's battle with the kite eating tree, and what happens to him when he plays baseball; or, with Lucy and Schroeder's love at the piano fest; and then, there's Peppermint Patty and Marcie (who calls P. Patty, sir) interactions that always makes me laugh, Lucy is still annoying and often confused, and Sally, is still sweet and innocent. We all knew a Pigpen in school, and that kid that always got into trouble with her teacher about homework, and baseball with friends... Totally relatable fun!

Charlie Brown and friends have been in my life since before I can remember, and it's always fun to revisit the neighborhood. There's a definite feeling of comfort in seeing the every day lives of the gang, and there were some new surprises for me- Peppermint Patty goes on a blind date to the Valentine's Day Dance! I won't say with who, that'd spoil the surprise! A great collection.

I absolutely love Peanuts! My favorite has always been Snoopy, but it’s not peanuts without Linus, Lucy and all the gang!! If you never read the strips, movies or songs look it up I promise you won’t regret it!

Charlie brown: All Tied Up is what you would expect from a Peanuts collection from Charles Schulz.

It has been a long time since I have revisited Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang but it immediately felt like home when I started reading them. The perspective we bring to such a long running strip at different points in our lives is part of what makes rereading these strips so much fun. When I was young, I certainly enjoyed them but I probably saw the characters strictly as children, which of course is what they are. Now, many decades later, I appreciate the humor as it relates to being school age but I also see more of the adult themes that kept these strips so vibrant for all ages for so long.

This is a wonderful gift for someone too young to have had the pleasure of newspapers and the daily/weekly strips. This is also great for those of us who enjoy the periodic trip down memory lane. One thing I was particularly happy about with this collection is that, unlike seasonally themed collections this one covers all seasons and holidays. I liked not getting into a long group of strips about a specific season or holiday but rather a few then moved on.

Highly recommended for old fans and new fans-to-be.

I remember reading my mom’s old Peanuts books from when she was growing up. I would stay up way too late with a flashlight making sure my parents didn’t catch me still awake. I flew against the Red Baron with Snoopy, played piano with Shroeder, and commiserated with Charlie Brown over his love of the Little Red Haired Girl. I loved to live in the world of Peanuts (and still go back and read them again and again). This new collection brings me back into that world. I loved coming back and can’t wait for more. The only complaint I had was that occasionally it felt like it was too updated to today. The nostalgia of the original was diminished just a bit, though not so much that I disliked it at all. There was just a small sense that it was not the same. Of course then something else would happen on the next page and I would be right back in it. I highly recommended this for those who have loved Peanuts through the years and those just discovering it now.

'Charlie Brown: All Tied Up' by Charles M. Schulz is the 13th book in the Peanuts AMP series.

You can't ever go wrong with a Charlie Brown collection of comic strips. This time around Peppermint Patty finds herself charmed by Pig-Pen, Lucy can't seem to pay attention to the game in the outfield, and Schroeder finds himself on a really cut rate airline run by Marcie and Snoopy. There are plenty of other fun strips to go along with these too.

Reading a collection like this always takes me back to my childhood. Reading it on a dreary, rainy October day just sealed it. But these are gags that work for any age. Introduce a youngster in your life to this great series.

Everyone love Charlie Brown! You know exactly what you're getting into when you pick up this collection. I smiled as soon as I saw the cover. All your favorites are back and they're just as wonderful as the first time you picked up a Charlie Brown comic (probably in the paper). I loved how even though it's individual comics it still tells a story. You have overlap between seasons with running story lines such as the leaky school roof that pops up from time to time. If you've seen the TV specials you probably even read the comics imagining the different character voices. So many memories come back reading this and it's also great to share it with my own children and make new memories too.

I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Charlie Brown, Pig Pen, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Schroeder, Snoopy and their friends are back for more wry slice-of-life chuckles. Charlie Brown weathers the test of time incredibly well. The humor and pathos of being picked last for teams, unrequited Valentine’s Day love, pointless field trips and sibling annoyances are crystallized in mostly four panel cartoons in bright primary colors. The humor is Seinfeild-esque, centered on Charlie and his elementary school crowd, and of course the beloved beagle. As with other titles in the Collection, there are several craft activities at the end, facts about Peanuts, and a pull-out poster. A reassuring classic offering.

Although there are non binary characters, there is no racial diversity.

It’s been a while since I have ventured into the Peanuts world, and I must admit that I have missed it. Charles M. Schulz was a master of finding the humor in the smallest of things in life. This collection brought a smile to my face from the very beginning and brought back so many memories of childhood and reading previous strips. Charlie Brown, Lucy, Sally, and the others are like long lost relatives that you have not seen in a while, and it was great to have the opportunity to ‘catch up’ with them. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book and to take a stroll down memory lane.

The Peanuts gang is all here with a character I am not familiar with. Fans will enjoy Lucy whether she is mooning over Linus playing his piano or bring her usual crabby self,, Sally with her school struggles, Snoopy, Woodstock and the rest of the gang. There is also a kite making activity included so you can see if you can avoid your own kite eating trees!
Good for Charles Schulz. Fans of any age. Thanks to #netgslley and the publisher for the free ebook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Charles M. Schulz had a unique gift for finding both the humor and sweetness in every day life. This book is another great collection featuring the Peanuts gang. There are strips about school, fitness, wanting acceptance and more, all illustrated with gentle humor. This is a great book to dip into. It will make you smile for sure.

Another great collection of Peanuts comics. We have Charlie in a fight with the kite eating tree, Sally trying to write a report that is factual, and Lucy still working on getting Schroeder to notice her. Of course, we get some glimpses into various baseball games and more than a few Beagle Scout trips (addition of Harriet and her Angel Food Cake with Seven-Minute Icing.)
An excellent addition to the Peanuts canon.

Reading Charlie Brown and Friends brings me back to when I was little and sneaking the comics section from the Sunday newspapers without letting my father see.

It's suitable for the young and the young at heart.
