Approved by the CIA Publication Review Board. "An explosive assassination thriller that is timely, believable and hugely entertaining. A must-read." – Best Thrillers Law enforcement agencies have chosen to ignore rather than investigate dozens of political figures and defectors who have died under mysterious circumstances. When a Democratic National Committee staff member is murdered before the presidential election, Washington, D.C. police is also uninterested in investigating the crime. The President is well behind in the polls. Some powerful people want assurances that the President will never take the oath of office if he unexpectedly wins. On Election Day, the Central Intelligence Agency Director uncovers treachery at the highest levels of his organization. A rogue group of senior intelligence officers may have exposed themselves for who they really are before disappearing with a secret experimental weapon. Mounting evidence suggests the President may be in peril but the Secret Service isn’t interested in conspiracy theories or implausible weapons with impossible capabilities. Will CIA pilot Duncan Hunter save the President from a group of assassins?
Duncan Hunter, 60 year old adventurer and owner of a superplane, and his co-horts go up against the communist dominated DNC and their corrupt candidate.
It is very unusual for me not finish a novel that I have started. This is one of those rare instances. When I read the blurb telling me what the novel is about it seems to be the Type of novel that greatly interests me. Unfortunately that did not prove true.
I got bogged down in the first 100 pages which jumped from an early section set in the days of Stalinist Russia and involving Soviet spies in Washington D.C to the present. As I tried to figure out what was going on in US politics as described in this novel (not to be confused with the bizarre reality we currently face), I got lost. I looked ahead at another 600 pages and decided Life's Too Short (LTS).
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC for review.
Suspicious Deaths In An Election Year This book is the fifth in a series that would be best enjoyed if read in order. In this episode, our main characters are busy trying to stay alive and keep others from being assassinated. While the country is busy with crazy campaign stuff during a Presidential election year, our favorite CIA troupe is trying to keep everyone safe, including their loved ones. The story stays very busy. Like heading cats, just when one thing is controlled and dealt with, something else jumps up that needs immediate attention. This is a fast-moving book that is filled with political dirty tricks. There is no foul language, but more bedroom activities than are necessary. There is some violence, but no gore. I am loving the series and will be starting the next book this evening.
It is book 5 in the series, but I thought I would just jump in. I am only at about the first quarter, but it is apparent that I have missed a whole lot by skipping the first four books. Readers should be prepared to read the entire series and in order to keep to the timeline.
It is an interesting take on American politics. It is very heavily alt-right. I usually prefer something a bit more middle of the road. I am going to consider getting book 1 and starting the series correctly. But I have read a few reviews and get the impression that the series is very alt-right and quite lengthy. I will have to consider how much time and effort I will spend on this series.
I am putting it aside for now, but who knows when I will restart. Have a GoodReads.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway thank you both Goodreads and the author. This is not a book I would typically read, although I read a huge variety of genres. For me this book was just to long it dragged on and on and seemed without a end. Overall I would said it was well written and action packed, though it has so much going on it felt like it could have been shortened and made into several books and maybe that would have been able to hold my attention. Having said that just because it wasnt one of my favorite reads, I believe everyone should read and make their own decision concerning whether they like it or not.
These books are fun. They are interesting... They are smart. You wonder what is real and what isn't. They engage you... Until all hours of the night until you've finished the book.... and then you wait for the next one. This man has been prescient in his thinking evidenced by the recent election. The characters are so well described... You can see them and hear them. It is a good book if it elicits thought AND emotion. These books do both. What else does Hewitt/Duncan think about DC, America, our enemies and the world? I can't wait for Book 6 to find out.
WOW....this was a really, really long book. Probably could have been made into several books with all the subplots going on throughout the book. Beginning started slowly for me but then once you got into the book it was hard to put down. Lots and lots of little technical details that were a bit much for me so I skipped over them. Definitely worth the time it takes to read and with the ending as it was, I'm guessing there is more to come???
First I would like to state that I have received this book through goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity and honor in being able to read this book. When I received this book I began reading it at once. This book was a very interesting read. It pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. I would recommend this book to others. It is a very good read
Mark Hewitt has a writing style that leads the reader through a world so real and characters so believable that you cannot put the book down. When you get to the end, your hope is there will be another yo read. Thrown in are truths about liberal Demo rats and how they are destroying America. Anyone who believes Biden won fairly should be looking for unicorns. Thanks again Mr.Hewitt.
Well, i'm not sure what to write.... I think that mr. Hewitt should find a better editor, who is a little more "hard" on him. The first 200+ pages dont have the mail character pressent at all. When you read the "bad" reviews here, you'll find people who gave up before the story started. If you get past the first 200 pages, you'll get a good written, high paced Duncan Hunter book. Once again you are not in doubt, that he hates the democrats :)
Awesome author With amazing adventures for every single book in the series
I would rate all 5 books so far as a 5 star and would start with the 1st 1 although not critical to do so. Also I think Anybody who likes to read fiction will enjoy every single 1 of these, Mark is at the top of my favorite authors after 70 years.
Good story if you want to see a tale of the present days political situation and remember most of the scarcely disguised people we have read about over the last few decades. I almost got lost in the translation of innuendo to facts that the author was trying so hard to define.
There was so much hatred of Hillary and the democrats that I felt it detracted from the thriller. I can understand wanting to get your point accrossed, but put it out there and then get on with the story.
Really enjoyed the book. Lots of action, book is long enough to tell a long involved story will all the details that makes it believable. Good characters with good back stories. Well worth the time to read this one.
I believe I got the first book for free from the daily deal and enjoyed so much I bought the test of the series. If any more Duncan Hunter books come out you can bet I will be reading them.
All joking aside what a great story. Plenty of action suspense and drama. Well thought out, a perfect reflection of what's happening today in politics.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Mark Hewitt is a truly outstanding author of action thrillers. Some small parts are a little risque , but can easily be skipped. Otherwise I really enjoyed this book. Could be of today's world. Can't wait to get his next book!
I can't get enough of Hewitt's writing with the Duncan Hunter's series. This is the 1st writer that I've read that constantly keeps you going. This 5th book, I loved the 1st chapter, blew my mind away. You want constant excitement, here it is!
With Duncan you have to keep your head on a 360 degree swivel! The election results are days away. Duncan and Kelley are flying Wraith missions together. Dark secrets are coming into the light.
Outstanding book. I almost believe that if the names had been changed, it would have been non fiction. All true American patriots need to read this book!
