I reallllly enjoyed these stories! Blum’s writing is so precise, and he elegantly captures deeply human experiences. I highly recommend for a summer reading list - as you could enjoy a full story between hops in the pool.

This is a pretty entertaining collection of stories. This book features a range of styles- from vignette-style narratives characterized by poetic prose and brevity to novella-length short stories to scrabble league newsletter to post first-date email. I really liked the range of ways Blum approached storytelling. A Certain Light on Los Angeles was by far my favorite story of the collection.
Pretty much all the stories are about a Jewish person (mostly men) all in different cities in the US navigating interpersonal relationships and mental health. Like many authors, I think Blum strengthens his narratives by keeping close to his own experience. Overall, I liked it.

A weirdly wonderful amalgamation of funny, offbeat, disturbing, and thought provoking tales. Blum's
writing possesses an unique voice for each of these disparate yet similar individual persons.

An interesting and insightful exploration of male secular Jewish-American identity, as a once despised minority group has risen to economic privilege in the US. Haunting in its depictions of mental illness and relationship challenges that should be familiar to most adults.
