They stole my power…but I will get it back.

My ascension nearly killed me. If I don’t learn to control my magic now it could hurt everyone around me.
A piece of me is missing, and whether I like it or not, the only person who can help me is Beckett.

And I definitely don’t like it. Beckett is infuriating and overbearing, and no matter where I go he’s always there. He even haunts my dreams, and the more we fight the more intense the dreams become. He wants me to trust him and now I don’t really have a choice. I know he’s keeping secrets from me, but what he doesn’t know is I have some of my own.

I’m surrounded by treacherous enemies, the devious council, and the scary warlock rebellion…and now I have to make the hardest decision of my life: return to my old, safe life as an average human girl or embrace the darkness inside me and become the warlock I was born to be.

But I’m no damsel in distress, I will save myself.

This book continues with Astrid trying to learn to control her powers. She is also trying to get use to being at the school and trying to learn everything she can. She is on the hunt for her ancestors grimoire. Astrid and Beck are still butting heads with each other. She doesn't know about the link they have. Beck will do everything he can for her, but she isn't making it easy.

There is so much going in this book, you will keep reading until you get to the last page. I really enjoyed this book. The author keeps the action, the will or won't they, and so much more. I am not going to give out any spoilers or details. I highly recommend reading this book/ series. It was so good.I am ready for the next one.

I received an arc copy of this book, this is my honest opinion

Great book BUT.....

I would've love to give this book 5 stars because Everything about it is great BUT the lack of editing brought it down horribly! Sometimes you can't even know what the author is talking about. Wrong word usage, horrible punctuation and don't even get me started on the grammar. Hopefully next time the author will think about getting his books proofed by an editor before releasing them. But other than the story is great with great characters and good plot.

Mysterious. Action-packed.

Oh, man. I wasn’t prepared for this. I wasn’t ready for my emotions to go in different directions. I have read most of Megan Montero books now, and I should have expected it, but I didn’t. Megan Montero is one of those authors who hooks you from the start until you find yourself reading all the books. She has become one of my favorite authors, and I am always looking forward to her next book. I loved Wicked Wish more than I loved Wicked Omen . There was more happening in Wicked Wish than there was in the first book; it was more action-packed. From the first page until the last page, there was so much happening, and it was impossible to put the book down. I am glad that I decided to read this book before my spring semester started. While reading this book, one more chapter turned into five hours later, every time. There wasn’t a spot where you could stop because when you assumed that you could put down, there was another twist.

Beckett and Astrid, soulmates. I should see that coming, considering how the two of them acted around each other. Beckett should tell her, and I knew that it wouldn’t end well if Astrid found out that he hid it from her, that he lied to her. When Zinnia found out that Tucker hid from her, she was not happy. Astrid is going to be livid when she finds out the truth. I hope that Beckett stops being stubborn and tells her that I hope she doesn’t find the truth from somebody else. I do wonder why he decided to hide it from her; it’s clear how she feels about him. Their character development in Wicked Wish was astonishing, and I think that the two of them had the most character development. I do like that despite their attraction, they did not fall in love with each other right away; it makes their relationship realistic. I do feel like Beckett was too harsh with her at times, but the way that she acts at times, I can’t blame him. If he doesn’t tell her the truth about his soulmate, their relationship might now survive.

Odin. I know that he is a demon, but I love the demon cat. It’s unique, and I think it’s funny how he keeps stealing food from Cross. I am curious if anyone will find out that he’s not a typical cat. I know that if Beckett finds out, he won’t be happy. I am hoping that nobody finds out because I like him. That ending… I knew that Astrid would find out the truth eventually. I understand that she’s angry that he hid it from her, but I feel as if she’s too angry. I do hope that Astrid doesn’t turn to the dark side. After that ending, I am eager to pick up the next book in the series and see what happens next. I have a feeling that whatever she has planned for Beckett cannot be anything good. I love this book. I love the characters and the storyline. It’s unlike any books that I have read before. I am eager to see what awaits everyone next.

2.75 - 3 ⭐
Book #2 of 5

🆗 Warlocks (also witches, fallen angels, gods, demons,...)
⬇️ Academy: 5 houses
🆗⬇️ Heirs of the houses
🆗⬇️ Unknown heritage/powers
❌ Instinctively super powerful with no training nor struggle
⬇️ Introduction to new world
⬇️ Mission & prove her worth
⬇️❌ Immature characters
❌ Girl drama
❌ Unneeded drama from lack of communication and stubbornness, jealousy
⬇️❌ Unrealistic behaviour
⬇️❌ Mentions a lot of characters from different series: it gets confusing at times
⬇️ Several POVs: mainly Astrid and Beckett

***

By finding her ancestor's hidden heirloom and opening it, Astrid triggered her own ascension.

With her power growing beyond her ability, the Queens are called in to help.

Having a part of her power taken away so she can be able to manage and learn how to control her powers, it is imperative Astrid improves her skills.

Specially if the heirs want to have a chance against the council.

When a mistake leads to Astrid's extra power being taken from her, she needs to prove herself to get it back.

But the relationship between Beckett and Astrid is strained.

"Just friends?
(...)
Right, because friends know the way you taste."

He is keeping secrets.

And Astrid is getting sick of it.

***

Notes:

Side characters:

I do love Ophelia, with her not-very-thought-through crazy homicidal lines and Cross, the brute who loves his sunshine crazy, and Maze, the loner who is a different type of loopy and the food pit.

Immature characters & Unrealistic behaviour (especially the MCs):

🔸 Immature, stubborn and lack of communication

I don't know if it is to create unneeded drama or if the author does think these behaviours belong to leaders who are teenagers.

But, in my opinion, it just seems immature.

These are people who are incapable of communicating, being honest with each other and hearing others' opinions.

They prefer to stew on it, make stupid decisions just to do the opposite of what they are told, throw tantrums, be stubborn and convict of their own rightness than trying to understand the other's point of view and compromising.

They do not think about their actions.
How can they believe they can act in the best interests of a whole species, be their leader?

It is just sad... and laughable.

Example:
The apartment scene.
Taking Astrid's power like she is a kid.
Tilly's appeared.

🔸Warlocks & Academy

Each time there are less and less scenes of Astrid going to classes.

But she still does everything instinctively, with no effort.

🔸Lack of foundations and proper explanations

- difference between species and their powers

- limits of their powers: it does seem like they can do the same things sometimes

- what is an ascension? Just more power? What triggers it? Is it the same as when Astrid gained her power (which was supposed to be a huge thing but it wasn't)?

- inconsistent behaviour: sometimes they can do some things other times they can't, sometimes they are the one more powerful but then they are not.

- everyone keeps saying Astrid has to learn and train but they constantly keep her from going to class and never teach/help her

- the mission with the gods: confusing and messy plot. Weren't the Greeks rivals of the fallen? So why help?

- lot of characters, some from different series: gets confusing

Overall, a bunch of immature reactions to things and a lot of lack of communication.
Some things are not properly explained which leads to confusion and a messy story.
But, an entertaining read. I am hoping it gets better and we get answers.

As always my complete respect for the author and their work.

I love these books. Very reminiscent og Chandelle Lavaun's The Coven series. But i love these books nonetheless.
But i do think i'm one of the few disliking Tilly, i know she's her best friend and yada yada yada. And Astrid is way too immature, impulsive and so on to be given this massive amount of power. I dislike Tilly because she doesn't give a fuck or think of the possible consequences that she, as a human, her presence could have on the people around her, being in Warwick.
This whole, i'm not leaving, you don't want me here, bla bla bla. You're 16, you should know Better than turning a blind eye. And don't get me started on Astrid.. Tilly says let's do it, and Astrid just goes.... Okay! Eventhough she knows it's a bad idea, eventhough she knows she has issues controlling her magic, eventhough she doesn't know all the rules, but she knows that people are gunning for her. That wasn't immaturity, or impulsiveness, that was stupidity and ignorance. And i dislike that those parts in the book.
But i am looking forward to book 3, wicked lies, because Beck messed up. And with Astrid's newfound confidence and control, hopefully we'll see a more responsible size of her, and maybe a little payback on beck for lying.

Also.... The blurp?

"They stole ny power, they don't know who they're messing with".

That's so misleading, and not in the good way.
Her powers were confiscated for a reason, and she doesn't steal them back.. so the whole "they don't know who they're messing with" is so out of place, simply because she's not some kickass heroine yet. So far she has been impulsive, a spoiled brat, stupid, ignorant, rash, childish. Just to name a few. Hopefully she gets her kickass big girl panties moment in the next book. Somewhat redeem herself.

Wicked Wish: The Royals: Warlock Court Book 2 ~~ This book ripped my heart out and then slowly stitched it back together with magic, vengeance, and passion—and I LOVED every minute of it. Megan Montero does not let up in this sequel. We dive right back into the chaos with Briar reeling from the truth about her bloodline and betrayal, and Asher… oh, Asher. The icy warlock prince is unraveling in the best way possible, torn between duty and his growing love for the girl he was never supposed to care for.

The emotional tension in this book is next level. Asher tries to push Briar away, but their connection is impossible to break. Every stolen moment between them is filled with longing and heartbreak. The scene with the enchanted cuffs? IYKYK. 🔥

We also get more insight into the dark secrets of the Warlock Court, new betrayals from unexpected places, and a few steamy surprises that had me gasping. There’s a major twist involving Briar’s powers that completely changes the game and had me screaming internally (and maybe a little out loud 😅).

That ending?? Cruel. Beautiful. Perfect. I am emotionally wrecked and already counting down the seconds for Book 3. I absolutely loved this book ~ Megan Montero knows how to rip your soul out and make you beg for more!! 🖤🔥💔

Beckett was always my favorite. He could get along with everyone and not much flustered him..Until Astrid appeared. She is your typical spoiled rich kid and it shows. Doesn't listen to anyone about anything that is not her idea. OMG, the trouble she gets not only herself into but the whole house! Then the mess she makes in NYC because of her bad attitude brings the wrath of the Fallen and Queen Zinnia (just when they were starting to get along). So much drama that she could have avoided if she tried. Tilly gets her in as much trouble as she gets herself into. I love Odin, her demon cat. He and Maze were getting pretty tight until Odin started stealing his snacks. This is such a good book and you are missing out if you don't give it a try! I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Book 2 Did Not Disappoint

"Right, because friends know the way you taste." Still the my second favorite line of any book. (The first being "Always." -Serverus Snape)

And we're back with the Astrid and Becks tension filled love story. Astrid has to go through so much to control her powers and learn what a warlock is. Her journey has been interesting so far.

She has so many obstacles to overcome. Having to deal with the scary, nasty Warlock Council shouldn't be one of the. Plus Kitty is still a pain.

Astrid is still a badass. Becks is still controlling and bossy as heck. Though his soft side for Astrid is sweet when he allows it to show up. Odin trying to be a cat is hilarious. I still like the twist on Medusa. We get a little more from Maze with sprinkles of Logan. And Cross is still an ass, helpful but an ass.

We get to see a little more of the Witches Royal court and those wiley Greeks pop up again. Where there are Greeks, there is trouble.

The ending, once again, has me on the edge of my seat.

Patiently awaiting the new twists and turns of book 3!

I loved this book so much!! There were so many emotions. Wicked Wish had me laughing one minute, then tied in knots the next. Astrid has been thrown into the world of magic and enrolled at the Warwick Academy. She has already faced challenges and those that challenge her. As tension rises and her magic increases those against them are becoming more forceful. Astrid and Beckett have been sent on a mission that doesn't go as planned. They will have to learn how to work together in order to survive.

We get to see old friends again and even some new ones. Poison Roycey made my heart so happy!!!! I can't wait to see what happens next!!

This quote makes me think of Astrid. "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

It was ok

I think I'm kind of over it.
I started going days without picking this book back up, and that's a sign the author has lost me.
Some things in this book just didn't make sense (adding the Greek gods) and felt unnecessary, rushed, and messy.
Also the writing is a little juvenile. Everyone is always "sucking in a deep breath" - or whenever a new character is introduced, they literally walk in the room and say "hi" like what?? How awkward! interaction all throughout the book was not realistic actually.
This book had amazing potential, but the story didn't develops in the way I hoped it would, and neither have the characters.

Omg some needs to just kill Tilly. Tilly is obviously a bad influence on Astrid, quite reflected in what they do and their maturity level. I don’t know about you, but I sure in the hell would not want immature Astrid with all this power to to rely on….maybe give her about 10-20 years to get over her daddy issues first. Also Hypocritically much Kitty was say wait until my father gets here….Tilly is like she is one of those. Hell Tilly and Astrid are one of those the life of privilege 16 year olds in clubs where alcohol is served personal limo to drive them every where, designer labels..

I enjoyed this book and how it tied in characters from the witch series. However, you would really want to read these books in order based on the authors suggestion on her website. Overall, I was a bit surprised about Astrid’s impulsivity in this book. I felt that one event that occurred was incredibly out of context for her and how the other characters responded weren’t really expected. I had to read it twice to really know that it actually happened lol just because it was so out of context/character.

Epic adventures

This series keeps getting better. The teenage angst between Astrid and Beckett is annoying at times as they need to communicate, and life would be so much easier. Odin, the demon cat is awesome, and e ery warlock should have one. The epic quest is intense, a blend between what is known about the underworld and the author has added a twist or two. Astrid certainly does things the hard way but is loyal to those she cares about. It's a fun way to spend a few hours reading about the world of witches and warlocks and other magical beings.

A must read

Wicked Wish is a must read. Megan Montero out does herself in the latest installment of The Royals series.
This story picks up without missing a beat from book one of this action packed series. Once you pick up this book, prepare to not be able to stop reading it until the very end. There's so much going on that you will not be able to stop. I don't want to give away any spoilers, because you need to read this yourself, because damn you really need to.
Each and everytime I pick up one of these stories, I loose myself and don't want to stop until I get to the last page and then I want the next book immediately.
Do yourself a favor and read this book

Its damn good

I'd say this one is better than the witch court because zinnia is so different from Astrid and it's really amazing , I really like the part where Astrid thinks that everyone including Beckett hate her but he is always there to comfort her and they both are alike whether they realise it or not ,temper, fierce ,and will do whatever they want ,it's pretty awesome in total like I read it kinda 6 times now ,really hoping the next book is out soon 😃😃

I love Astrid, she is such a little firecracker. Also as a huge fan of The Coven books so I screamed so loud when I found out Leo in this book was the same Leo that Royce took on a date in the coven books!!!! I can definitely tell those authors are bffs in real life just by their writing styles. I love being in both of their worlds! Can’t wait to find out how long Astrid is gonna be mad at Beckett for 🤣

Another home run!

I loved it! Astrid ascends and her power is so strong they have to call all the witch queens, plus Beckett to contain it. Astrid is way to impulsive in this book & gets herself into big trouble. She's selfish, & she is torturing poor Beckett with her dream walking, without even knowing it. The Warnock council is looking for any reason to expel her. I love that Medusa is in this book as well. Astrid does her a favor. So Medusa decides to do Astrid one as well, however it could get Astrid expelled. Strap yourself in because this book is a bumpy emotional ride, especially for Beckett!

Loved so freaking much

Astrid and Beckett are back in the second book of their story. It is seriously even better than the first as it gets even way more interesting with everything going on. I seriously love these two so much and am so freaking excited and anxious for the next book. Just really need more of them!

I love these stories, but..

The story rates 5 stars but the lack of editing brought it down. Wrong word usage (to/too etc), bad grammar and ridiculous punctuation errors are just unacceptable in an age with spellcheck and grammar check. Hopefully future updates will be proofed by someone who knows how to spell and punctuate because those errors detract from the story experience.

So much fun.

The first book was okay, but this book kicked it up a notch with lies, miscommunication, and temper driven snits that lead to serious consequences (yeah, I’m looking at you Astrid).

So much emotional turmoil for Astrid ends in an rather unpleasant discovery of the lie she’s been told, and I’m itching to get the next (and as of now unpublished) book.

1.5 rounded up. I must have a read a different book then every body else as there are so many 4 and 5 star ratings. The drama and angst between Astrid and Beckett is just too much to find enjoyable. For smart people, they both do and say a lot of dumb things. Ended up skimming the last 3rd of the book. There are also moments when the book just doesn’t flow the greatest either

Total control

What happened when you make a warlock angry, you get unpredictable outbursts of magic. Astrid ahas so much power, she can’t keep it all contained, until she’s forced too. Things are just heating up! I can’t wait for book 3!

This book picks up where the last one left off.

Astrid has ascended and now has her full power. She is actually fearful of it though because she doesn't have full control yet. She is also bad at following Beck's requests.

First she moves Medusa's home. Luckily no one saw this happening, but Beck was furious with her over it. Then her best friend shows up. Yep, a human in the Warlock world. Maze declares she can't leave though. He's psychic and has seen that she's important to their cause. And finally, with the help of her Tilly's nudging, she destroys her father's home in New York and exposes magic to humans. She gets in deep trouble for this one, not only from Beck, but also from the fallen angels as well, and Queen Zinnia.

Matteus sends them on a team building mission. This mission takes place in the Underworld. It's supposed to be a mission to teach both of them different lessons, but the greeks that are angry with the fallen decide to have some fun. They end up separating Beck and Astrid and causing them to veer off course of their original mission. They both end up in a house with Aphrodite and Dario (Cross's father) is there. Dario is a definite bad guy. He tries to kill both Beck and Astrid, but ends up failing. Beck is seriously injured though.

While sitting at his bedside worrying over him Astrid happens to notice that they have the same marks as each other on their arms. She figures out she his soulmate and he has been lying to her about it. Beck has a good reason for it, but Astrid doesn't know this.
