Walk With Me: One Hundred Days of Crazy is a romantic and bitter sweet work of fiction penned by author Ernesto H Lee. Written for mature audiences, but not overly graphic in its romantic content, this tale focuses on love later in life. Our central hero Mark Rennie is a man who once thought he had a perfect life all figured out, but then his life and health fall apart aged forty-one. In a world of difficult choices, Mark chooses to drift the streets of London in search of some kind of answer. When he finds Karen, however, he gets a lot more than he was looking for.

This is an emotional and unusual love story in the realm of tragic romances, but it has so many beautiful and uplifting qualities in spite of the situation that Mark finds himself in. The back drop of London is well drawn to bring out the atmosphere of each moment in Mark and Karen's relationship, and author Ernesto H Lee has a cinematic sense of how to construct scenes and move the plot along without any unnecessary details derailing it. The narration is personal, close to the characters, and sensitive in matters of health, the future and the notion of hope. What results is an emotionally intelligent and realistic romance that will grip its readers from start to finish. Overall, Walk With Me: One Hundred Days of Crazy is a rollercoaster ride with stylish narration, compelling dialogue and a plot you'll cry over again and again.

Walk With Me: One Hundred Days of Crazy by Ernesto H Lee is a novel about love, acceptance, and learning to live in the moment. We are all guilty of it and we all take our present for granted while we push for the future. This is something that happened to Mark Rennie in this novel. He kept looking forward and worked hard, only to have his life slip away from him. His story is heartbreaking as well as encouraging. The author did a great job of creating an atmosphere that is sensitive yet hopeful. There were emotional ups and downs in the story, but the author kept the momentum going and ensured that the reader enjoyed the journey with Mark and Karen. While the topic of cancer is very bleak, the author added as much hope and happiness to the story as possible. To say that I got emotional reading this novel would be an understatement. I was so involved and invested in Mark and Karen that I just didn't want their story to end. Absolutely beautiful!

Very well intentioned, but didn’t do it for me.

Spoilers for Walk With Me, One Hundred Days of Crazy

This is the story of Mark and Karen, both with stage 4 cancer, strangers to each other, deciding to spend the last 100 days of their lives together to accomplish a globetrotting bucket list that brings them love and newfound family.

Late in the story, the couple double date with another couple in their tour group and finally share their story.

“As a storyteller, Karen does a marvelous job of keeping the audience hanging on her every word. From our very first meeting, to the day we arrived in Japan and met them, no small detail is left out. Each scenario and experience are beautifully illustrated to the point that the listeners could almost imagine themselves being there.”

Now, this book is a narrative. People suffer and pass from cancer every day, impacting their own stories and those of their family, but in the form of a narrative, it’s incumbent on Mr. Lee to be as expert of a storyteller as Karen, and for him to show both a physical but character-focused journey. Who are Karen and Mark? Their cancers change them far before the story opens, they effectively bump into each other, and from that moment to their last, how does this journey change them? What is the story of their 100 days?

Effectively, we travel with Karen and Mark. They land. They nap. They have sex. They go out to dinner. They drink a lot. They call each other cute little nicknames. They dare each other to do risky things because time is short. Then they go to bed and wake up the next day.

There are breaks in the narration, of course, but I felt bogged down page after page because I felt like I was following two people around on their honeymoon. It reminds me of a book I read earlier this year where the main character meets with his doctor, and we’re present in the room from the moment he walks in until the moment he leaves, hearing every line of dialogue, including those not necessary for the narration. For stretches of the story, I just felt bored. They get busted stealing a meal and almost get shot by a Chinese soldier, but these are aberrations to the story and don’t represent character growth. I think part of the reason is in most road trip novels there are conversations in the car, events and interactions along the way that are the focus of the narrative. What do most people do on vacation in real life? Go to museums and go out to dinner! This was real life, and I had difficulty holding interest.

Karen was a fun character. She was daring, brave, and accepting her time is almost up, but I don’t feel she changes much from the first day she meets Mark until her last scene.

Karen and Mark are my age. They’re going through something horrific. Karen is a respected pediatrician, although we never really see her as a doctor. That’s backstory only. Mark is in the financial sector, and we see that very briefly, but for much of the story he’s a globetrotter. They both speak with a formalized dialogue, including two people alone in a room together calling each other by their first names, frequently, in a way that doesn’t happen naturally. I had trouble associating with my contemporaries here. One review commented that Mark was middle-aged. He was 41 and Karen was 39. They just felt older to me.

The wedding and the final plots were heavily foreshadowed, but narratively, it was frustrating. We had first person narration and yet Mark conveniently didn’t think about what was going to happen, and everyone spoke just vaguely enough to keep the secret from us. That trick costs the author, but given that it was fairly clear and not much of a surprise, it wasn’t worth it.

I also had difficulty with the twist ending. Mark gives Tony the letter, and Kaitlyn makes reference to Tony being in on a secret before Karen slaps her, but Mark notes in real time that he has no idea what Kaitlyn is talking about. He at least should have had a suspicion?

We never see the point, at least I didn’t pick up on it, when Karen figures out the truth, and if there was one that I glossed over please point it out in the comments because I’d like to reread that. Perhaps it happened right away? The twist made me stand up and pay more attention, but it was quickly reversed by the next sentence which confirmed Karen saw it coming. It took something away from the ending.

It’s never a reviewer’s job to tell the author what he should have written. It’s bad form, and I’ll take my lumps for the following statements. This was the story of two dying people. A few years ago I read a book called “They Both Die At The end.” I loved that we’re told from the cover how the book will end. It was about a journey, whereas I didn’t feel a journey here. I wonder how I’d have responded if Mark ran into a woman a few years later that seemed like Karen. In the next life and all that? I wonder how I’d have reacted if they both just went through with it and there was no twist. I wouldn’t have accepted Karen being the one faking Mark out, nor would that have been permissible, but I feel like it it ended on a weird note. Mark fooled Karen, but Karen knew, and Mark knew he was lying, and Karen knew Mark was lying, and Karen told Mark that she knew Mark was lying right after he was done lying. What was the point? At least let Kaitlyn and Tony have kept the secret that Karen was in on it!

All in all, I feel like Mark and Karen didn’t grow from the beginning of their journey to the end, the formalized dialogue didn’t really do it for me, and I felt like I was the third wheel for people at dinner, over and over again. Perhaps if I felt more invested, I would have enjoyed the journey more. It just didn’t click for me, but I truly respect what the author was going for here. I did feel Karen’s loss, and felt those last scenes of them showering and getting ready for their appointment were heartbreaking.

And the final monkey potato was a thing of beauty!

Walk with Me: One Hundred Days of Crazy by Ernesto H. Lee is a powerful and evocative novel about life, love, death, and learning to appreciate life while facing death.

Forty-one-year-old business executive, Mark Rennie, is diagnosed with cancer. He is hit with the news that the cancer has metastasized, and without surgery, he will have six to twelve months. While sorting out the news in his head, he meets Dr. Karen McKenzie, a 38-year-old pediatrician who is in a similar situation. They realize that they have limited options: get the surgery and hope that it takes, live the next few months at home growing weaker and filled with regrets, or make the most of the time that they have left. Mark wants Option A while Karen prefers Option C. After the two become romantically closer, they decide to spend 100 days together, traveling, visiting fantastic places, trying different foods, and going on adventures. Mark will have his surgery, and they will continue from there, however long it takes.

This book is one-half a travelogue and one-half a character study of two people facing their mortality in different ways.

Walk with Me is a complete sensory experience of the different locations that the duo visits. They experience the Bangkok nightlife, take legal drugs in Amsterdam, make love near the Parisian romantic spots, learn how to dance in Havana, gamble in Vegas, swim with sharks in Cancun, walk across the Great Wall of China, visit the Forbidden City, have an authentic meal of Osaka Kushi katsu, and observe the Alaskan aurora borealis. The book presents a wonderful scenic itinerary of experiences and adventures that draw Mark and Karen closer together as a couple.

This trip invigorates their relationship as they go through various humorous and heartwarming situations. A night of overindulgence in Amsterdam leaves Mark caring for an ill and remorseful Karen during the morning after. Karen pulls Mark out of his self-consciousness and awkwardness in dancing in front of people to the point that they perform an effective number in front of a captive audience.

Karen and Mark experience all that the world has to offer because they know that their time may be short. Their struggles with this inevitable fate reveal that people often react to changes very differently. There is no one way that is right or wrong, but it reflects who they are as individuals.

Mark opts for a medical and surgical process. He wants to extend his life as much as possible. His relationship with Karen introduces second chances and ways to spend his life in a new direction. He doesn’t necessarily want this trip to signify an end but lead to other possibilities. Cancer for him is a reminder to pause and reflect on how to move forward.

Karen, however, wants to let nature take its course. If she has to die young, then so be it. She accepted it and wants Mark to as well. This trip presents an end goal and a means to go to the next life with few regrets. Cancer might be the end of the road, but that doesn’t mean that she can’t enjoy the path heading for it and with the man that she loves as well.

Walk with Me: One Hundred Days of Crazy by Ernesto H. Lee reminds readers that death may be the end, but the chapters between that and birth are what make the story. Those chapters are what make the story worth reading, telling, and living.

After reading the blurb I didn't expect such series of shocking events in life of our protagonist Mark Renie who works in a financial sector. He is 40 yrs old and has everything he wants, is engaged to his partner and waiting to get married.
But life changes for him suddenly when he loses his Fiance and later gets diagnosed with Cancer.

Now, while everything is challenging and sad for him he meets Karen who is respected pediatrician and also Cancer patient. Karen becomes a Hope fkr Mark and they decide to spend their last 100 days together. This book is series about these events and a journey of the 100 days. There are also other aspects to their life which I won't reveal much and leave it to the readers to explore.

What I liked-
~ A beautiful cover and well suitable.
~ The narration is very lively and you can imagine the scenarios and feel the emotions.
~ It's very interesting and a different story plot than usual stories.
~ I enjoyed the journey throughout the story.

If you like reading such stories where there's trauma but also a different aspect to Life and Love then I'll surely recommend this book to you.

A crazy journey through a life flipped upside down

Mark has it all until he doesn’t. Mark seemed to have the perfect life filled with money, success, and love. In the blink of an eye life can change and usually it does when you least expect it. When Mark is diagnosed with cancer his world is turned upside down. His charmed life has become a fight for life. Mark meets Karen and life begins again. This story is a great love story that explores the true feelings of our characters and the meaning of love. The journey is romantic and the story an emotional whirlwind. I enjoyed the adventure and believe that anyone who loves romance and intrigue will fall in love with the story of Mark and Karen.

Amazing!

When I saw this title, a new book from Ernesto Lee, I immediately looked at its preview. I love the McMillan series and am always eager for the next installment. So, when I saw that this was a different story, I wasn't sure about reading it; but I do love his writing. My #1 rule is that, after the first chapter, if I don't like the book, I can put it away, unread. I occasionally go back to try again, but almost never like a put-aside book on a second attempt.

There was no way I could put this one down after p. 1! It's good that I started it on my day off, before noon. My errands will have to wait - I read it in one day. And I'm sad that I've finished it.

The premise of the story is new to me, which is a surprise because I read almost every day and have for many years. Decades, in fact. The writing made me feel like the main character was talking to me. The author painted word pictures and made me laugh at some of the ideas. He also added unexpected ideas and twists; and I was never 100% sure about the ending until the last page. I was absorbed enough to resist looking ahead.

I want to go back to this morning and find that the author has written a longer version of the story! It's that good.

Ever imagined having everything at the tip of your finger yet you can't access it?- frustrating right?

Mark, a successful commodities trader had his life planned like a regular male in his early forties. But it all crashes down in an avalanche when an uninvited guest knocks on his door and shuts it with no intention of leaving.

However, Karen unlocks it but having no way out either they decide to share their locked up life with the unwanted guest.

Their crazy one hundred days made me crave fore more & more & I just didn't wanted those days to get over🤧. It's a love story which not only comes with roses & lavender but with cactus & agacia too🍂

To summarise in a nutshell, this story teaches you- When life gives you lemons, accept it, it's truly your call to enjoy it as lemonade & smile or use it with vodka & throw your gut out the next day🤞

Mark Rennie, a forty year old successful commodities trader with one of the leading London trading houses. He lives a life which most can only dream of. He owns a flashy car, a penthouse apartment etc and have a beautiful fiancee. But everything went upside down when we he was diagnosed with cancer. It affected his life and engagement also. During his first diagnosis, doctor guaranteed ninety-one percentage survival rate. But within eighteen months his cancer came at stage four. But still there are chances of survival with surgery and hormone therapy and chemotherapy. While coming out of the clinic he saw a stunningly beautiful woman sitting in the waiting area. He preferred to walk to get some fresh air and end up at a bar in The Green Man. Fortunately or unfortunately he meets same woman there, Karen. Everything changes within that night.

Who is Karen? What is her story? How would she influence him? What will happen next?

Walk With Me: One Thousand Days of Crazy is a beautiful story of two people who are walking through the same path. This book will teach the reader to face all the difficulties with a smile and enjoy their life. Language is very simple and lucid. Cover and title is very much apt. I really like the book.

Life Can be Unpredictable and you never know what is coming your way next.

Have you ever imagined, a moment you have everything in your life you can rejoice over and the very next moment everything just vanishes?

Here in this Novel, Mark is an ordinary, simple man in his forties. He is a successful business and is happily engaged to the love of his life. Everything is going as it was supposed to, but then all of a sudden his happiness seems to vanish as he is diagnosed with the most fatal form of Cancer with 9-12 months to live with. The Fiance leaves him in his pathetic situation. But Destiny had something else in the store for Mark.

He meets Karen, another Cancer patient who has quit Chemotherapy. Their meeting turns into an awkward one night stand which turns into the a relationship they were longing for.

The story seems to be a bit predictable, though the narration and language is flowy enough to read it in a go.

Not bad

A good quick read. Somewhat emotional, but not overwhelming. I will be looking into his dream series, as it was interesting to have the story from a male perspective, as I haven’t had that much. The part I didn’t like about the story is it read like a cancer patient fairy tale. What terminally ill person wouldn’t want to have this story if able? So it’s hard to feel sorry for them, although the main idea should be appreciated.

Ernesto H. Lee weaves a tale of love, life, hope, and acceptance around his two main characters Mark and Karen, co-incidentally both cancer patients.

Mark Rennie, a successful commodities trader in his 40's has all the materialistic things that a man can aspire for, except his health. He is diagnosed with prostate cancer which is rapidly progressing, leaving him with a few months in hand.
As the Love Gods would have it, a chance encounter with Dr. Karen McKenzie at his oncologist's office and then again at a pub sets the pace for the incredible journey that the two would undertake.

Coming to Karen, her Ovarian cancer (notice how both have cancer in their reproductive organs) has long been in the terminal stages, and she has accepted her fate. She has nothing left to lose. Her philosophy is to live out the remainder of her days to the fullest.

This chance encounter between the two, brings them close because of their shared medical condition and life in general. After a lot of sensual encounters, they decide to live out their remaining days according to a bucket list that they made one night in a drunk stupor. They name it one hundred days of crazy!

It is the last item on the list that creates a bit of suspense. Pick this book up if you want a good romantic, easy-breezy read; if you can handle the prospect that one or both of them might die or they might have a happy ending.
Read to find out what life has in store for them; if they will be able to tick off all the adventures they have planned, given their health.

The following section is a mini rant and may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At one point of time, when they are in Bangkok, they have fun at the expense of the person driving their tuk-tuk.
The driver is described as a "lunatic with no fear of death". They take their turns to choose among drivers and select one that looks "less possessed" than the others. This driver has a single working eye and that is supposed to be advantageous, because guess what? It meant he's more likely to concentrate.
Now as a resident of a third world country, and having recently read Jamaica Kincaid's a Small Place, this rubbed me off the wrong way.
This is how traffic works in third world countries ( People who have read a Small Place, I hope you can relate.) White people coming and guffawing at the state of the roads and drivers in general reeks of privilege to me.

In another instance, their hundred days of crazy involves changing the in-flight meal of an overweight man to a plate of raw vegetables which results in a scene where both the man and the attendant serving him has to suffer. Both face humiliation. Irrespective of the fact that you are a terminally-ill patient, it does not give you the leeway to have fun at the expense of others.

That's all folks!

Author - Ernesto H Lee. @ernestohlee Rating - 4/5 Can you imagine having it all, right from luxury, status, to a beautiful fiancé and suddenly everything's being snatched away from you within a blink of an eye? Walk with me : One hundred Days of Crazy is the purest & the most splendid yet tragic love story of two well achieved people, Mark & Karen. Karen is a practicing doctor and Mark is in Finance. Both rolling in abundance of money when something terrible happens & their world is turned upside down! Both of them are left with limited time on earth. This is when they decide to go on a world trip - a trip of life, experiences & love. Travels reveal the worldly truths to people, they prove to be the most enlightening experiences. Karen and Mark discover innate happiness, unadulterated beauty of life & most importantly - love. You would definitely want to read the book to know more about what happened to them. It's a well organised and beautifully written story. All the chapters begin with dates, which while reading seems more realistic. This transports you into the heart of the story letting you feel as if you are truly living with the characters of the book. Mark, Tony, Karen, are all the normal people with normal aspirations with those lucky and unlucky days, just like you and me. I personally liked the book more from 27th September when their travel began. Travel stories can be boring if the reader fails to visualise the places that characters are visiting. But Enernesto H Lee has done his job impeccably. He literally transmits us to the city & country. It's exhilarating to read about Mark's & Karen's travels and equally daunting when they beautifully bring us back to their tragic reality. And therefore, it is something truly extraordinary on the part of the author to build such strong characters which stay with us even after the story gets over. All these aspects make "Walk with me" a beautiful and compelling page turner. I absolutely loved it.

🥰 “ With you by my side, we were unstoppable, and I was the happiest and proudest woman in the world.”🥰

Life is not all about the richness or the ladder you have climb, it's about the moment you lived with your loved ones and strive to be better to make them smile and proud.

Mark Rennie was a successful commodities trader with one of the leading London trading houses. At 40 years, his life is turned upside down when a devastating catastrophe drops in his life in the form of cancer. His fiancee is gone and he is left with choices of life and death. Unable to comprehend the situation he walks into an unfamiliar ally for a drink to numb and gets lost for a moment. Karen is the last ray of hope who holds his hands and drags him back in the shitty smell of medicines to get better and treated.

It isn't full of roses but a bed hook with pipes, tubes and n number of visits to the hospital. Karen being herself a cancer patient somewhere draws optimism, positivity and hope in the life of Mark. They are the anchor of each other life, where they battle hard to fight the demon.

The agony and frustration of hospitals, treatment is depicted we'll and in simple language, the readers can feel the life of Mark and Karen. Characters of Mark was built with good research portraying the journey, thoughts and pain of an ill man. The author was able to beautifully pen down the character from start to end, decisions taken and why, how they were approached and its consequences. Karen was a bit of left out character or more of made to sail into the sea for Mark. Few of the choices might not be pleasing or rather requires more thoughts to ponder on. In a whole its a sweet bittersweet romantic tale.

Mark and his crazy girl, Karen, who steal Mark's heart and adds fun, and uncertainty to his otherwise certain life are on two adventures. First, super unplanned adventure that life threw them in and second, the very planned "One Hundred Days of Crazy". It is the first one, you should read the book for.

Writing and Plot:
The story follows Mark and Karen through their battle against. It is an emotional and simple plot but their world trip adds spark to the reading experience.

The writing is simple, some instances seem a little ameteur but goes well with the story so you can't complaint.

With such a heart-warming, plain narrative it is authour's description, observation and writing that makes the reader go chapter after chapter.

Positives:
Character's are nicely built. Detailing about decisions, happenings and reactions are very well taken care of.

A smart and strong female-lead was refreshing, especially when her end is so devastating.

Side characters did justice to the little role they had to play.

The book throughout prepared you for this kind of an ending. It was beautifully heart-breaking.

Negatives:
The middle part of the book was a little boring (this can vary with reader's person preferances).

The ending was predictable in a way. But, when it ended it seemed rushed, wanted to read more of Mark and Karen's eternal love after Karen's demise. A little bit about how mark remembered her for his entire life would have been great.

Will the ending make you cry? YES.

Worth it?
Yes. Although the at the middle of the book I wanted to skip to the end, it still was a nice read. There was substance, romance, emotions, love and a lot of meaning!

Walk with me, one hundred days of crazy is a romantic and heartwarming fiction written by Ernesto H. Lee. The main protagonist of the book are Mark Rennie and Dr. Karen. Mark is a type of person who has everything in his life, until one fine day he gets diagnosed with cancer. His life starts to fall and then unexpectedly he met Dr. Karen who is dealing with the same disease. She made him realise how every day is important and how the 100 days of life can change everything. You have to read the book to know all about it.

The title of the book is beautiful and has a deep meaning within it. The cover page of the book is simple and suitable for it. The plot of the book is great, it is not different but it has some kind of "livin' life" vibes.

There is so much positivity in the book, that you'll start to feel happy about them. The portrayal of every character is done well. Dr. Karen is a fun personality and she is living her life with utmost happiness and care.

All other characters in the book are portrayed equally well which is nice. The spirit of Karen is unbreakable, whereas helping and motivating Mark is what you call a positive being.

I love the chemistry between them. The language used in the book is simple but the I didn't love the ending much. The starting of the story was beautiful but it should have grown with time.

I'll appreciate the efforts done by the author. But still it is a good read with great narration. Overall, I like the book and I'll recommend it to all the romantic fiction lovers.
