Staff Sergeant Kyle “Reaver” Jacobs is a career Recon Marine - the best of the best. Operations behind enemy lines, search and rescue in the vacuum of space or the bombed-out ruins of urban war zones, forward reconnaissance of hostile territories - all part of their mission profile. Silent planets and treason are not, but that's what Reaver and his Marines are faced with now.
If Reaver and Dragon Two-Zero are to survive this new phase of war they are going to have to rely on one another and get their newest team member up to speed or they could all end up simply more tags on the wall.
"Some of the most well-rounded characters, regardless of sex, that I've read in years. I look forward to reading more from him!" - Laurell K. Hamilton, NY Times best selling author of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.
"William McCaskey brings his own experiences as a veteran to the pages of this thrilling mil-sci fi debut!" - John G. Hartness, author of the Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter series.
I'm a longtime fan of Laurell, and jumped at the chance to read something different that she recommended, and I am so glad I did. I look forward to jumping into the short stories collection "Fantasic Hope" that have stories from both them and more from McCaskey. I couldn't put it down and hope to read more tales from Dragon Two Zeros team
I love this book. The combat, while futuristic strikes a cord with me, the emotions, the thought processes, ect of the leaders making decisions in this book.
I can not wait for number two. For real, the treason advertised in the description was out of left field. I didn't see it coming. Well done Drinkin Bro!
Read this quickly over two days, then when I get to read the blurb at the back find out is a first book. Well written sometimes too much background info but still dragged me in. Will look for more from this author.
All ground-based sci-fi military action! Don't expect a lot of in-depth background story for the characters, or the enemy for that matter. This is strictly a shoot-um-up. Not saying that's a bad thing, though. It all depends on what you're looking for. The tech and arsenal the characters use were created with a lot of detail in mind and were pretty cool and rooted in believability. I enjoyed the action, and though the characters didn't have a lot of background, and wasn't needed for this type of story, I would buy the next book if there is one. If you're a fan of military sci-fi action and want to get straight to the firefights, pick this up.
I wasn't sure if this book was going to get me involved with the story. But it was interesting enough that it did. A little too much detail but great characters offset that. Anticipating the next book in the series.
If you want to read a novel that does military sci-fi right, you can look no further than Dragon Two-Zero. The man behind the book himself is as you would expect, an absolute sci-fi nerd, and also a Veteran so you know it has to be good.
If you spent any time in the Marine Corps, this book will grab you from the first chapter. Lots of battles both on the battlefield and in the ranks. Hopefully book 2 will be released.
Details, details, details. I'm all for world building and battle details but I really, really don't need to know which finger is on the button 'where' in his uniform. Useless details that slows down the story, which is actually quite good. Oh and so far there is no book 2.
