This book reminded me somewhat of the super hero comics that used to be around when I was young--maybe they still are? At any rate Tyler has a super power which he tries to ignore--until he can't. Of course there is a girl with super powers she is also trying to hide. When Tyler stumbles upon his history high school teacher talking to some not very nice guys--he unwittingly gets involved. There is a LOT of action in this one. Can our hero save the world from the ancient Gods?
This book will hold your attention and I think your teens and maybe preteens will enjoy it as well. As I always say--before you hand a book over to your child--read it first!!

A YA Fantasy full of action and thrill.
Rain is a captivating and thrilling debut in fantasy genre. The characters of Christopher are developed and well crafted. The writing skill of the author is honed, striking words on paper with flow
Christopher takes a thread and knits a complete intricate world.The fast paced story with fun, mystery and adventure holds its charm till the very end.
Christopher depicts a magical world, and keeps it compelling through his near to life characters and setting.
The author presents a perfect blend of myth, fantasy and vivid imagination to the readers. The book is fascinating as it is exciting and does not contain unecessary mundane scenes and details.
I would give this book 5 stars and recommend it to the readers of fantasy especially YA fantasy. Cannot wait for the next installment in the series.

Kept back at school for not finishing his schoolwork, Tyler finds himself in the middle of a fight between his teacher and an unknown person. After being shot in the back, he wakes up to discover he suddenly has strange glowing eyes and magical powers.
This was a good story and I always like reading anything with mythology in it, though it was a bit of a confusing mix of Ancient Egypt and Greek Gods.
I love the narrator's voice, but the style of reading is really tiring. Every sentence ends on an exclamation and there are tons of random pauses which makes it quite hard to listen to.

The story keeps up a rapid pace of action once it gets going. The lore of the story could have been blended more gracefully because it seemed to come in exposition dumps. This is less than ideal, but the world being created was still interesting even with that. Tyler is a complex character that has to deal with his own loss at the same time as gaining superpowers.
The narration in this book is solid. There are a variety of voices and it adds to the personality of our MC. There are some odd pauses, especially when certain characters were speaking, that at first I thought was the narrator taking the commas and periods too seriously, but after looking carefully that doesn’t appear to be the case. This does make some of the dialogue feel choppy. If this might bother you then I’d suggest you just nab a kindle copy instead.
Occasionally the kindle edition of the book had formatting issues (i.e. line suddenly breaks and the sentence continues a line down for no reason). There were few grammar issues and one word choice/mistake “...mumbled bagging into the wall behind us to lean on it.” (pg. 222). I’m fairly certain the word should be backing not bagging.
The book has a unique take on the lore of superheroes and gods which was fun. There were some issues with both the audiobook and the kindle book that may put readers/listeners off. But if those issues don’t bother you then you might want to give it a shot.

When I first read the synopsis of Rain, I immediately got excited. It quickly reminded me of The Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken, but fewer kids with superpowers.
Right from the start, Tyler's story is fast-paced and engaging. The fast pacing took over the majority of the book, leaving me little time to breathe before the characters got caught up in another action scene. I had a love/ hate relationship with the pacing because the action kept me glued to the page, but I would have loved to have more quiet and descriptive moments so I could live in the story a little bit longer.
The story takes off immediately and does a great job of explaining the background of Tyler's new power and why it is so important. I also like how his new power challenges his insecurities and the events in his backstory. I won't go into too much detail to avoid spoilers, but I think events in the plot heavily impacted his character development in a positive way.
I never had an issue with the sentence structure, and I was never confused while reading the story. Unfortunately, grammar errors litter almost every page. The most prominent issue is the incorrect use of commas within quotations and improper use of capital letters. Usually, I let one or two go, because even with Grammarly, I commit mistakes all the time. But with this one, there was a mistake on every other page.
Usually, I am very picky about my sci-fi books, but I loved this one. The story, characters, and science fiction elements really stood out to me, and I look forward to seeing what happens next in the series. If you enjoyed The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, I think you would enjoy this one too.
