A Crown of Iron & Silver

Rate this book
Never promise a life that isn’t yours to give. New York City is decked out for the holidays, and Special Agent Patrick Collins is looking forward to a reunion with his old team when he gets assigned a new case. A human child is missing, and the changeling left in her place causes a prominent witch family to demand justice from the fae. Meanwhile, continued harassment from the New York City god pack forces Jonothon de Vere to formally establish his own with Patrick. Doing so will mean a civil war within the werecreature community—a war they risk losing from the start without alliances. Making bargains with the fae is never wise, but Patrick and Jono have nothing to lose when a fae lord comes asking for their help. The Summer Lady has been kidnapped from the Seelie Court, and if they can find her, Patrick and Jono will cement an alliance with the fae. But the clues to her disappearance are found in Tír na nÓg, and the Otherworld has never been kind to mortals. Venturing past the veil, Patrick and Jono risk losing territory, time, and their very lives while searching for answers. Because the Queen of Air and Darkness knows they are coming—and the ruler of the Unseelie Court has an offer for them they can’t possibly refuse.

This time Patrick and Jono have to take on the Fae, only some of Patrick's ex-unit decide they might be able to lend a hand. Ordinarily I tend to get annoyed at fae/fairyland plots (I quit Dresden about the time he was visiting the fae all the time) but QB excuses a lot that goes on in this series. Plus, when your protagonist is a gay man, it doesn't really matter when the female fae turn on the sex appeal (again, Dresden).
Turner continues to surprise me with her plotting. There was an even when something fairly predictable happened, and although we were left in a bit of suspense, it turned out differently. I knew there was a reason I enjoyed this series.
As usual, the elements of mages, military, NYC, fae, gods, were-animals and vampires make it feel a bit kitchen sink, and as usual, it mostly works. The scenes where the Lost Hunt were riding through NYC were particularly vivid, but I had to wonder why the humans didn't have a better defense system against this sort of thing. Well, it was probably explained, but I skimmed over it.

The new addition to the pack, Wade, had me a little doubtful, but I rather enjoy his influence.

QB gives it a solid 4 stars, but my objective brain would probably say three stars. Maybe three and a half. I'd love to see Turner invest in a solid editor, who could help her writing become a little less 'telling' at times, and to remove some of the repetitive description. If I never read "has your six" again, it'll be too soon.

There was a beat where his heart used to be that grew louder as he met Jono’s gaze.

For the first time in hours, it felt as if Patrick could breathe again now that Jono was here.

By all the gods - holy or not -, can't a mage catch a break nowadays??? Just a tiny break to recover from the last encounter with some obnoxious immortals, antagonistic vampires and inept werevolves? It doesn't even have to be a vac... - umm, no, better not going there or with his kind of luck this word will be cursed until kingdom come and SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins will never visit Maui in his life, except with his finger on a map. No such luck, though, since now he has three missions on his plate. At once. A missing child. A missing fae princess. A missing artifact.

And don't even think, they are all commissioned by one and the same person, which requires quite some juggling. The fact that all three seem to be connected somehow should make things easier, but add in a possible impending war between the Faerie Courts...
Bildergebnis für fae gif

... the betrayal of an old friend and comrade, Patrick's personal nemesis in the form of a certain cult leader with yet another own agenda, secrets being revealed and bargains being made, things just got complicated beyond all measure.

It's a good thing that Jonothon de Vere, Patrick's lover and god pack Alpha werewolf, has nothing to worry about except for helping Patrick, right? Yep, just kidding here. Jono has his own repercussions to deal with after separating his little pack from the ruling New York City god pack, whose leaders are annoying like a thorn in his giant paw and as subtle as a bull in a china shop in their attempts to get rid of him and the threat to their dominance.

One thing Jono and Patrick always can count on is their soulbond, though, which is getting stronger every day and by that I do not only mean the one that has been forced on them, but the one their souls - and hearts - took up on their own...

"If the gods had given us a choice on who they bound me to, I would have chosen you," Patrick said, the honesty in his words like honey that Jono could almost taste.

The third instalment in the Soulbound series with the focus laid on the Faerie realm this time, was well on its way to become my favorite - and to some extent it still is. But since this series already has a cast that rivals the Holy Bible with even more characters being introduced with each new book, this time the fae not only had one name but at least three and with as many bargains with a different background and between different parties been made, you might get my predicament to follow the story right down to the last detail and I sometimes felt a bit lost. I'm still not sure I caught up on everything... Other readers, especially those who are more familiar with fae mythology, won't have this problem. It was also a bit repetitive at times, but for most of these occurences I was rather grateful.

Those niggles aside, I loved the rest of this book to bits! Well, I could have done without some giant yukky creatures, especially of the eight legged hairy kind, which already make me run for cover in their tiniest form, much less visualizing them in oversize.

"You give the mortals nightmares with these antics," (...)

EXACTLY! But Wade and Patrick's former fellow team member, Keith, evened it out by making me laugh quite often.

I just love how Hailey Turner integrates mythology into our modern world and combines them both so smoothly that it feels like the most natural thing ever. And with Patrick and Jono she created two characters who make me feel their bond each time they are together.
He dragged his other hand over Patrick's throat, pressing his scent into warm skin, wanting everyone to know that Patrick was his , and always would be, in every way that mattered.

Another highly recommended addition to this series!

I'm in LOVE!!!!

Ever since reading Kate Daniels, the Foxhole Court, Captive Prince, or Red Rising I've been clamoring for a new series to fall in love with. Finally, I found another one to fill the hole that Kate Daniels left behind. Lucky me, there will be 7 books in all.

A Crown of Iron & Silver was as fantastic as hoped. It delivered on the key points that I was most interested in, Patrick and Jono's relationship, their growing pack, and an action packed story.

Patrick and Jono are a wonderful couple. They have come to rely on each other in a deep and harmonic way. It helps that they've come to know each other so well and trust each other's capabilities and decision making. Feelings have deepened, and it's very satisfying to see them grow even closer with each book. I'm a bit in love with both of them myself, since they remind me so much of Kate and Curran (in a sense not literally).

Their pack is growing slowly but steadily. And I'm in love with the diversity of their growing group. It's not just wolves that come to Jono. It's Jono's acceptance of all creatures that really brings this pack together.

Patrick, as always, gets dragged into one fascinating case after another. And where Patrick goes Jono goes as well. There is no boring minute in this book. Maybe even a touch too much action, if I'm really critical here. I would have loved more time with Patrick and Jono being a couple, and living together. I was missing the domestic side of their relationship a tiny bit. But boy, that didn't' keep me from reading this book as fast as I could - meaning, in one sitting - lol.

I'm a bit giddy that I found this series. I wasn't aware of how big the hole was that needed to be filled with a new and amazing UF series.

It seems with each book someone and/or something new is introduced, so I have to create more brain space to take it all in. This author's world building is never ending, but that's okay because...damn what a rush!!

I have to say ewwww to the spider creatures 😖. So glad they are fictional!

Lucien's presence was missed. He is definitely the kind of bad boy anti hero I love in my stories. 😍😍 But I loved that there was so much more of Wade! I'm crazy about that kid! 😁

I'm looking forward to the next installment and hopefully more of Gary Furlong. 😍

Best one yet, full review tomorrow when I'm capable of making sense!

Hailey Turner, I swear you get inside my head and pull out all the best things I love about mythology and magic and then work them into a book plot.

A Crown of Iron & Silver had everything which fascinates me about the Fae and how they're intertwined with both Scottish and Irish mythology at such a deep level.

Cú Chulainn, Balor the King of the Fomorians (who never get talked about but who I have an intimate relationship with through playing the most excellent MMO Dark Age of Camelot!), the Gods and Goddesses of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, the Sluagh and the Wild Hunt.

All of these are legends I am familiar with and which I love. I rejoiced at you pulling out Beira, Queen of Winter from Scottish Mythology to embody your Cailleach Bheur as you sent our heroes off to the Cliffs of Moher to visit the Hag's Head.

Everything about this narrative was a joy to read. From the growing sense of love between Patrick and Jono, the God Pack developments (no spoilers here), the jaunt through the Veil to Tír na nÓg and the Otherworld via a drop into Welsh Mythology.

I wasn't sure where the plot would take me but I was so happy to be along for the ride. I hurt for Patrick as he dealt with more secrets, cheered for Jono as he started to consolidate his pack, laughed at Wade's teenage antics and sighed with happiness at the ending.

Where this series will go next, I haven't the foggiest idea, but I'm packed for the journey and eager to find out more.

Another epic adventure from Ms Turner. From the cold streets of New York to the freezing Cliffs of Ireland, Fae and humans fight for their lives. Celtic Gods wage war for power, Dominion Sect allies with the dark forces for bid for immortality, and Patrick and Jono fight for freedom and a life of an innocent caught in between.

There is never a dull moment in Patrick's life since he met Jono. From bizarre cases to pack challenges, he will see it through with Jono by his side. Their god pack maybe only four strong but it's founded on honor and care. The alphas of New York god pack harass those under their purview, and many come to Jono for support and advice. He is ready for the challenge, but it's not enough. He needs the support of the powers that be. So when a baby from a prominent witch family is discovered to be missing, and a changeling is left in her stead, Patrick and Jono try to save the innocent child who is hunted by both Seelie and Unseelie court Wild Hunts. Who wishes her harm?

Patrick knows they need help. He knows making deals with Gods will bring more harm than good. So when the deal is struck between them and the Fae, there is no going back. The soulbond between them is strong, but will it survive behind the veil? When the secrets come to light, many feel betrayed. Patrick feels like he never knew his friends at all? The race to keep the bargain with Celtic Gods brings them close to death and back. When all is set and done, only the Gods can mend what they broke, only the Gods can stop the bloodshed.

I love Jono and Patrick. They are so in tune with each other, and not only because of their soulbond. They get closer in time of danger, and in their quiet moments they are so sweet and tender. Jono was born to lead, and with the support of the Fae, he is ready to take on the mantle of the alpha of the god pack. They might be only four strong but they are family. And that is what this is all about.

This was thrilling, engaging and thoroughly satisfying roller coaster. The humor and tears, the anguish and love, the danger and incredible magic are wonderfully entwined with legendary warriors and powerful Gods that are brought to life by Ms Turner's wonderful writing and incredible imagination. I loved every page. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for Jono and Patrick, but I am sure it will be fantastic. I highly recommend it! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review

I think that when the last book of this series comes out, I am going to binge read the whole thing. It's just that good! I love it when an author mixes mythology with paranormal, especially when their take feels fresh and the world they've built is so vivid. Bonus points for using my favorite Celtic deities, too! Haley Turner is rocking my world with her Soulbound series.

A Crown of Iron & Silver picks right up where All Souls Near & Nigh left off. Patrick, Jono, and their pack (small as it is) are still looking for Ethan and the Staff of Morrigan. Nothing good will come of Ethan finding that staff. A greedy, power hungry mage, hell bent on stealing a godhead for his own gains, Ethan is not someone you'd want to encounter on a crowded well lit street, much less a dark alley. The stakes have been raised in A Crown of Iron & Silver when Gerard, an old teammate comes for Patrick's help because his fiance has been kidnapped by, you guessed it, Ethan.

Secrets come out. Some expected, and some not, and feelings of betrayal and deceit run high. However, when push comes to shove, the good guys work together to fight the bad guys and find the Summer Lady.

Patrick and Jono continue to wow me with their commitment to one another, beyond their soulbond and watching their pack grow and become stronger gives me hope that good will prevail over evil and they will get their happy ever after. We don't have all the pieces, yet, but there is plenty of unrest, and a whole lot of shifters who are tired of being taken advantage of and lied to, along with a bunch of meddling gods in the midst of a family quarrel. And through all of that, we are reminded of what family really is. Blood? Nope, not necessary. Family watches out for each other.

Also points for scene-stealing Wade! I have a soft spot for teenage dragons, apparently, and every time he had page time, I could not help but smile. And that boy is always eating or complaining he doesn't have food. Oh to be able to eat a dozen cinnamon rolls and not only not get fat, but still can keep right on eating. That's fantasy, right there!

A Crown of Iron & Silver does not stand on its own, so be sure to start this series at the beginning, and know going into A Crown of Iron & Silver that there is still more to come. It's not too cliffy, though, so don't worry about wanting to scream at the end of the available words. Just enjoy and know there are more goodies to come.

Recommended.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Not As Good As The Others*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Book one occurred in June, book two in August, and book three starts in December. While I like this book less than the first two, it was still an alright read. I like that you get to see Jono and Patrick getting closer to each other, and the pack getting bigger, but something huge is missing from me, and I believe it's the depth. I need more from it. Less fighting/action, and more depth. I just don't feel the book in a way, if that makes sense. That being said, it was still interesting, but I feel like they haven't really gone any further in the plot. Overall, I liked the characters, the pack and the action (though there was a bit too much action). I did miss Lucien, and I wish we'd get more of those two together, where they actually care for each other. Is that too much to ask for?

Characters & Information/Spoilers:
The list is LONG so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Urban Romance (M/M).
Series: - Series, Book Three.

Cheating? -

Favorite character? - Jonothon ‘Jono’ de Vere.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Unsure.

*3,75 stars*

For me, this was a difficult read. Cause my brain had real trouble keeping up with all the new characters, gods, deals, powers - which ultimately is on me, but then again...

So I’ll try to sum it up neatly …

YES …

.) Jono slowly becoming the alpha he will be, taking on new responsibilities.
.) Jono being Jono – he is the most caring, protective and loving guy *melting into gooey puddles*
.) Jono naming his feelings.
.) Patrick realizing his own feelings for Jono, even if he can’t label them outright.
.) Patrick being Patrick: self-sacrificing, a bit crazy and hugely likeable.
.) Patrick changing to a happier person because of Jono.
.) Patrick and Jono together – hell YES!
.) Wade being Wade - he always makes me smile!
.) There are Gods in this universe who like Patrick. LOL.

Darn …

.) Sorry, but all the new gods, creatures and millions of complicated new names simply did me in. Brain officially blown. I like fantasy, but it was simply too overwhelming. There is no doubt that Hailey Turner is a master at writing action and that she has done her research in the minutest detail, but this was very heavy as a read.

.) There is an estimated 85% of fighting, running for your life, fighting, action, fighting, trying to survive, fighting, worrying whether friends will survive, fighting, etc etc etc in this book, when I wanted more on page relationship development.
There is some (see above) and I LOVED it, but with so much action it was very sparsely spread. My heart wept.

.) Fenrir is not exactly a god I’d like to have in my soul… not sure how I felt when Jono let him in (or out?), even for the short moment he did.

.) why the heck don’t any spells create enough heat to combat magical cold???? Unless you’re a dragon …

So, what did I take away from the third instalment in this series …

.) Patrick and Jono have fallen a bit more for each other with Jono being more open about it.

.) Patrick is making allies in the god world. Allies he’ll no doubt need eventually when he faces off with Ethan.

.) Jono is becoming more who he clearly is supposed to be – the god pack alpha of New York.

.) I googled pantheons. Have you any idea how many of them there are? (something like 20 odd …)
It made me wonder if the preternatural beings in this series need to take a course about their stories and myths to be able to recognize them?

With my mind and my heart torn, it was a real tough book to rate.
In short for me there was:
too much action, too many complex gods and creatures and too little Jono and Patrick.
So not quite the full 4 stars.

Heh. Binging on this series is probably not doing it any favor: I'm starting to suffer from severe fatigue here.

Because I'm now over a thousand pages into the Soulbound series and I'm still extremely confused about why and how the soul bound that links the two MCs together (and that gives the series its name, mind you) is relevant to their lives and to the general plotline, besides being a handy excuse to further the romantic sub-plot: what does it do? How does it work? What does being soul bound entails, aside from being a convenient power-up for Patrick? It's also not clear why an author should go out of her way to come up with a police procedural narrative only to have it matter not at all within the text - nobody cares about the missing child, and we're told from the beginning she won't be found anyway, so... uhm... why should we care if the characters don't? What exactly are those first hundred or so pages about?

Besides, this is the third installment in a series, and there's been more than enough time to fix at least some of the recurring structural issues we've been dragging along since the first entry: yet the worldbuilding is getting shoddier and the secondary cast is still barely sketched out - it might work when it comes to the vampires, you can always play the dark & mysterious angle there, but we've spent hundreds of pages in the company of the protagonists' friends and all we really know about them is that they're wealthy and that the teen dragon is ravenous. That... uhm, how shall I put it - that's not character building.

Preexisting faults aside (if you edit out the repeated info we're given throughout the book I think we'd be easily a hundred pages lighter: seriously, how many times do I need to be told that vampires don't feed on the dead? Is it even a notion worth mentioning, let alone readdressing it several times over the span of a single book?) I think what A Crown of Iron & Silver suffers from the most is the loss of Patrick as the main focus of the narrative - which is quite literally all over the place, since so much page-time is devoted to the characters jumping from one location to the next - and the fact that the author continues to relentlessly add to a worldbuilding that simply isn't solid enough to hold on it shoulders the weight of all these many plotlines running at the same time. While I like the idea of a narrative that spans the length of the whole series (the war against the Dominion Sept and Patrick's nemesis, Ethan) adding a secondary main sub-plot to the overarching story evidently proved too much for the author to handle and the threat represented by the ruling werewolf pack of New York is one of the most inane and implausible thing I've read in a while (and, may I remind you, I'm presently engaged on a KU binge, so please believe me when I say I've read some truly atrocious stuff recently).

Turner is at her strongest when it comes to building the various sets the characters move in: her New York covered by heavy snow and haunted by the Wild Hunt and the Slaugh is incredibly sinister and eerily beautiful, and I enjoyed following the gang during their travels in Underhill. But a book needs a plot, and a third installment in a series needs some development, and A Crown of Iron & Silver lacks both.

Taking a break from the series.

I’m finding these books to just be so delightfully bingeable. They really are just the right balance of urban fantasy/ adventure/ romantic sub plot that I need at the moment and I can tell that I’ll have a big Jono and Patrick shaped hole left when I finally finish these books. Thankfully that’s a future me problem cause I have a bunch to go.

Did this world need to expand into another facet of lore with the fae world? lol probably not. Did I have a great time with it regardless? Absolutely.

I must admit that this installment I kept thinking about how Jono is my favourite kind of a werewolf, which is basically just a GIANT PUPPY. Every time the book mentioned Patrick grabbing Jono’s fur I would just think about how I would never stop patting giant murderous werewolf puppies.

I have to laugh that considering Jono and Patrick were super hot for each other from literally the first meeting and then almost immediately moved in together, the development of the emotional core of their relationship (given they are both people who grew up lonely and isolated) has actually been super sweet and like shockingly healthy and supportive. The found family vibe is doing its thing.

For what it’s worth, I know a lot of people talk about having trouble keeping up with the number of characters that are in this world. I agree it was a lot in book 1 but I feel like by this point I’m pretty familiar with everyone and I’ve been finding myself managing to follow it all fine, so I definitely think it’s a bit ‘your mileage my vary’, or maybe I’ve just read a lot of larger scale fantasy stories over the years so I’m used to it lol?

First things first...I love these guys. Patrick and Jonothan. Along with the world that’s been created here. The ongoing issue with Estelle and Youssef. Jono’s pack and especially Wade. Wade just steals every scene he’s in. I love that boy but I’m glad I don’t have to cover the cost of his food.

But....

I hate it when there’s a but.

Now part of this is me I’m just not a huge fan of the fae. I’m not really sure why I never have been.

I’m struggling to write this review because it’s going to sound more negative than intended. There’s a lot here I liked but it seemed repetitive and over long in places. Before I’d even realised it I was skimming. I kept trying to pull myself back into the story but then I’d be skimming again. That in part I feel was due to the non stop action. I can only take so much. I just wanted to catch my breath at times. I wanted Patrick, Jono and Wade to have some time to themselves.

On top of the action is a whole host of new characters and gods.

Also I’m not a huge fan of having the same villain run through so many books. Personally I’m so done with Ethan. I was done with Ethan in the last book. While I hope this series is a long one I’ll admit I’m hoping for a change of baddie.

I know I’m going to sounds like a real pain. But the constant recaps of things from previous books bothered me as well. This is book 3 in a series if new readers want to know what happen previously then they should read the earlier books.
I think it was worse because I re-read the previous two books again before starting this. I won’t make that mistake next time.

This review sounds far more negative than I wanted. But in the interests of honesty I had to mention all the things that bothered me.

I’ve yet to read any other reviews but I suspect most will love this.

"A Crown of Iron & Silver" just confirms it: I'm obsessed with this series.

At this point I really can't say which one of these is my favourite because they all have different vibes. This third book was slightly less heart-wrenching than the previous one: less trauma and violence, less vampires and criminals, and more otherworldly magic and all-powerful fae, enchanted and terrifying kingdoms and tricky bargains.

I've always loved stories that revolve around the fae and Hailey Turner is a genious storyteller: she manages to flawlessly weave fae mythology into her established world-building and it is GLORIOUS. I could actually feel like I was there with them all in Tír na nÓg: the atmosphere was so realistic and vivid and rich.
Patrick is, once again, my favourite. He seems to be finally healing after all that went down in the second book and I was so glad to see it. This time around he ends up being less of a self-sacrificing idiot but I'm sure Jono's relief will be short-lived. Speaking of which... he's such a protective badass and those final chapters made me sigh and cry and ugh, I'm so proud of him right now.
I enjoyed having Gerard and Keith and Nadine around so much: I know they probably can't stay around too much but how I wish they could *sighs*. It was so lovely to see a bit of Patrick's past through their presence and I'd probably promise my firstborn to the fae for a chance to get to read of past his adventures with the Hellraisers.
Anyway, I'm forcing myself to take a break from this series because I KNOW I won't be able to survive not having more of them to read.
I might just go and buy all the paperbacks in the meantime.

I love how this series just keeps getting better. After how seamlessly the last book integrated Aztec mythology and ended with a thrilling chase for the Morrigan’s staff, it set up an exciting new mission.

In this book, the story takes us to Ireland and the land under the hill, diving into the world of the Fae and the Celtic pantheon.

I can’t wait to see where this journey goes next! And of course, a special mention to babies Patrick and Jono, who just keep getting cuter and cuter ❤️

Now it's official: Soulbound is one of my favorite paranormal series. Took me a while to get to that statement. While #1 was promising but still left me with my usual rambling about gods in urban fantasy, I didn't had that issue anymore -at least not much- with #2 where it was more Patrick's inability to appreciate Jono and acknowledge what that is between them.

Now at #3 there are still gods, Patrick is still not able to say those 3 words but all that doesn't matter anymore. Finally I'm at home in the world Hailey Turner created and now that the coast is clear between Patrick and Jono I can focus on their adventure as well as their growing together as well as the development of their pack. I'm missing a bit the darker elements Soulbound #2 was showing but it's still anything else than light and easy and with adding the Otherworld with its celtic myth there is no lack of danger and fights.

5+++ fantastic stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am still absolutely loving this series, and all of the characters.

I listened to it on audiobook, as I did book 1 & 2, and loved the narration.

5 Stars!

I have never read about mythology so I don't know much about it. So it has really been a surprise that I have loved this series so much. Hailey's writing and world building around these myths and supernatural characters has been so much fun. I fly through these books and can't wait to grab the next one. It is one of those series you hope never ends.

I feel like this one wasn't as action packed as the previous two. What this one does have is a lot of secrets that are slowly coming to the front. While some just feel hurt others feel betrayed and are having a pretty hard time with it.

Patrick picks up a case of a missing child who had been replaced with a changeling. He is also still in the middle of looking for the Staff of Morrigan when his team comes into town with a mission of their own they need Patrick for. Patrick has a lot going on that includes the above plus him and Jono officially establishing their own god pack. More werecreatures are coming to them for help and some even offering up their allegiance to them. You can only imagine how that is going over with the NY god pack. Especially when Jono and Patrick are gaining some strong alliances.

What I enjoy the most about this book was how much Patrick and Jono's relationship grows. They felt so much more stable and in tune with each other in this book. They are unshakable in their commitment to one another. As much as I love how fierce they are in their protection of each other in a fight, it is their intimate moments I love the most. Jono is very touchy feely and I LOVE it. Especially when we know Patrick hasn't had a caring loving hand placed on him since he was a very young child. Patrick's walls have been completely crushed under the weight of Jono's care for him. Jono seems to have more confidence in himself with Patrick by his side. He now believes he can have a pack, a family, and friends. He knows he can lead and succeed as long as he has Patrick. And that ending... SWOON!

I loved that we got more of Wade. The kid, I'm sorry, I can literally hear Wade yelling, "I'm not a kid!", lol. Wade definitely stills the show with his antics and brings comic relief to some, sometimes, intense scenes. I really do love him.

There is a lot happening but it was easily enough to follow along. I honestly fly through these books because the story is so enthralling and characters so intriguing.

Onto the next!

Happy reading dolls! xx

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by A Novel Take PR.

More Jono and Patrick...

Another good one in this series. All I'm really waiting for is the big show down with the God packs. I'm ready for Jono to take over. In the meantime, this book takes us through the dealing of Fae Gods. Secrets are revealed, deals are made and of course Jono and Patrick are at the forefront of it all.
As always I look forward to the next.

I'm starting to warm up to Jono, which is a plus. Before, I didn't see him as a strong leader. But I'm starting to think that was on purpose. He was just a dude, bartending, until Patrick. And now he is slowly accepting his role, and gaining confidence. Maybe his character is more complex than I thought at first. We'll see what happens next. I'm hoping we're at least get to meet his British relatives. I would love me some more Brit. :P

As far as the story goes, I liked it. I love the Wild Hunt. I don't claim to be an expert, since I only read a handful of books. I missed the Irish dialect though. And a few times I got bored. I love the author's writing, she can describe the surroundings and characters in a way I can easily imagine, however the description of  the fae world got a little too long and my eyelids were drooping.

Overall I enjoyed it.

There are so few series that keep the level with the next books that each one deserves special attention. And here we have the third book which is as good as the first one in this series.

This book is above all a great story. And although we have here an already known motive of the fight against the Dominion Sect, in each book there is a new aspect of it. Not for a moment did I think I already knew this story. This time we have a little less gods here, and much more of the fae’s world. Rapid action does not stop for a moment. Patrick and Jono have arrangements with different parties having their own interests. While maneuvering between all these expectations and promises, they try not to die and save the world at the same time. The whole story is constructed so skillfully that it really keeps you in suspense. You can't stop reading.

This plotline is so interesting that there is no need to resort to excessive drama. And this is something that I especially appreciate in this series and in books in general. The relationship of Patrick and Jono develops slowly but without major quarrels or dramatic breakups. This is what I want to see. This and them always trying to get out of trouble together. In too many books, when we have an established couple, we follow only one of the characters and the other we see only from time to time. Here, Patrick and Jono work side by side and we can watch them support each other and work great together in different situations. And there is no annoying drama in their relationship like in so many other books. They have their problems to solve but they are mature. I really, really appreciate this.

We meet again a group of well-known characters from previous books. This time Wade has a more important role to play. We also meet former members of Patrick's team and his captain. Although this thread in my opinion has not been fully expended, except of course for this captain's thing. I hope that they will also appear in the next books and we will get to know them better.

I really like where Jono and Patrick's relationship is going and how it is developing. Slowly but without major dramas. They support each other. Patrick is more and more involved in his role in the pack. There is something in this couple that makes the whole book become a comfort read to me. I hope it will continue because Patrick and Jono are one of my favorite couples now.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.

This new installment in the urban fantasy saga finds Patrick and Jono healing from the traumas of the last one, while keeping an eye on Wade, their fledgling packmate, trying to keep peace with the other god pack, and caught up in a major powerplay by different factions of the fae.

This series is for people who like a wide canvas, a lot of players, fairly non-stop action, and magic of a somewhat open-ended power level and functionality. With gods of various kinds and temperaments, fae lords and heavy hitters, and artifacts, and Patrick's own powers, there's a kind of arbitrariness to the resolution of battles and all the players who come to join them. This adds tension and unpredictability, but sometimes a bit of a feel of deus ex machina.

My favorite character outside of Patrick and Jono is Wade, the abused teen dragon-shifter, who maintains his surly attitude and his hidden affection for his new packmates, and is a lot of fun on the page. He did get to shine in this installment. My own preference is for a bit more interpersonal and psychological time with the main characters, and a smaller cast of major players, because at times I forgot who a returned character was or what power another could wield (and this book introduces several new characters to the already-wide cast.)

I am eager to get back to the smaller issue of Jono and the other god pack, with the secondary characters I care about emotionally, and hope the next book spends time there, but this was a very exciting ride of a book.

ok....
First: Gary Furlong is a GENIUS!

Second: I LOVE Jono. LOVE HIM! He is so caring and lovely and layered and he just loves Patrick and dotes on him and it Is so swoony I DIE.

Third: I finally warmed up to Patrick. Its been a gradual thing from book 1, especially with his OTT martyrdom and stupid decisions, but here, there is some vulnerability that shone through that made him more lovable to me.

Fourth: JONO... Oh I already said that, but I love him so.

Fifth: MORE STEAM YES!

Sixth: WADE! Omg wade is a right spot in every single scene he is in. His emo teenage angst is so on point and so adorable and so funny. I adore him.

Seventh: Jono finally getting the recognition he deserves!

What I didn't love
The Repetition: DUDE?! There are somethings that have been hammered home so many times. We get it! It kind of took me out of the story a bit, and only Gary's performance helped put me back in.
also, all the new characters being introduced was kind of overwhelming. too may characters in 1 book. I get that they were all detrimental to the plot, nevertheless, it was too much.

WOW 🤩!!!

This was quite the book!
Thank goodness I can quickly look up gods on my Kindle app, since a new one came on very chapter! Here come the Irish immortals!

The 3rd book in the magnificent series was a search for a missing child, a missing goddess, and a missing weapon. All involve deals with immortals—which Patrick simply adores.

Not all searches are successful....BUT:
Secrets are revealed!
Both our MC’s come out alive.
They get their feels on.
It’s a Merry Christmas for the ever-growing god pack.

Writing-wise, this book was a bit stilted at times with choppy sentences in places where they were not needed for any sort of emphasis. I know this novel was a tough one for Haley Turner to write due to real life, so maybe that’s what is poking through the text.

The narration by Gary Furlong was superb!!

My rec? It’s part of a series and should not be read out of order.

I keep thinking this book in the series will be not as good as previous one but no...!! Love this series and the story has ways to go...
Why one star less? It reminds me about the comment in the 'the big bang theory' where work of Indian Jones is proven to be not necessary. Well, in the end there is no progress in the war against Ethan!!
Looking forward for Jono's Pack growing in number and strength. Will be waiting the next book!

Absolutely amazing!! Really outstanding -exceeded my expectations! Mix magic, passion, action, love, danger and incredible world-building and you have a few of the components that made this an awesome story. The imagination of the writer is fantastic and her writing is beautiful. i loved the story.

Patrick and Jono made my heart sing as they learn to trust and take care of each other. i love how their relationship is growing. Wade, Sage and the other characters really are developing. Wade had some real cameo scenes in this one.

This is book three of the Soulbound series and it should not be read as a stand-alone. There is so much history, character development that occurs in the previous books that make this book amazing. You will want to treat yourself to the first books.

2.5 I love the characters and I think the premise is awesome, but something still isn't clicking for me.
The core world building is the fantastic kind I've come to expect from HT, but the mix of pantheons of deities pushes things a little too far for me. I keep feeling like I don't know what the edges of the magic in this universe are, and that the rules could change at any moment - as a result, the stakes never feel high enough.

4-ish stars

I deviated from the pattern and I think I didn't enjoy it as much as I should/would have; for these Soulbound books I've been reading first and then listening...but not with this one. Gonna put it on the re-read shelf for later because it WAS good - I just needed the written words to absorb the story better, I think, especially given that once again we have a pantheon I'm not as familiar with.
