An enjoyable light traditional mystery with a pleasant small-town setting and several very nice action pieces.

In the wake of the Sheriff's murder by train, chief county deputy Johnnie Baker takes over the search for his killer and an overlooked or rather ignored report of a missing girl. Small town politics in the growing Colorado tourist town vies with protecting the privacy of movie stars and famous authors. Despite interference from the locals, Johnnie and her new chief deputy Butt Peabody (formerly the sheriff) search for clues and for reasons for the deaths and missing persons. I gulped this mystery in one long sitting along with the second in the series.

This tense regional mystery will remind readers of Craig Johnson and Tony Hillerman's mysteries. By the way, Arthur Williams is John Bickham best know for his tennis star - international spy mysteries. Unfortunately, he only wrote two Tenoclock mysteries before his death in 1997.
