Margot walked away from Birch County and put that entire life behind her. Life, love, and everything she knew was put aside, just like her nickname. What she never expected was to be summoned back by a friend in need.
Jake Findlay knew from the moment he laid eyes on Margot, when she was six years old, that she was going to be the bane of his existence. He was right. And there wasn't a thing he could ever do about it. Especially when she comes back into town after tearing his heart out of his chest and stomping on it with her perfect little foot.
Margot doesn't have time to adjust to her new life before chaos breaks out. Fire, murder, and destruction come to Birch County, and she's the only thing they all have in common. When Margot's life is on the line, the only people she can turn to are the same ones that she walked away from. Nothing is going to remain the same when this inferno is finished blazing.
USA Today Bestselling author by day and superhero by night... Seriously, though. I write Contemporary Romance that will tear my readers apart and put them back together again. As long I have coffee, I legit think I can conquer the world.
April Canavan created another fantastic world that will draw you in and make you fall in love with her characters.
Margot returns to her home town upon an urgent request from her best friend. Upon her return she encounters an ex lover, old friends, sexy cops, hot firefighters, and her world is suddenly flipped upside down. Who doesn't like a man in a uniform? Well, when you work with emergency services, they're literally surrounding you. Jake is stunned by the sudden appearance of his ex and he's in for a shock. There's a difference in growing into a love you've known and learning to fall in love with a grown version of your childhood love. When your love is in danger, all holds are barred and nothing will stand in your way to ensure that that love will endure.
A story of second chances, psycho arsonists, and a love that would never die.
Margot has loved Jake since she was a little girl in one sense or another. Her life has taken a few twists and turns and after a tragic accident in her late teens, early twenties, she decides that she needs to leave Birch, Maine to grow up, attend college, and find out who she is. With this in mind, she leaves the only man who has held her heart in his hands since she was five years old. He doesn’t want to let her go, but he also knows that she he can’t keep her in Maine. He is eight years older and knows what he wants in life and where he wants his life to go, but he has to let Margot, his Lily-girl, find her way in life and hopefully find her way back to him.
When Margot gets a text from her best-friend, Maya, in Birch, that she needs her to come home, Margot leaves immediately, no questions asked. Maya has a tragic past and if she is in trouble, there is no way Margot will ignore her text. She is not prepared for the memories that rush back when she gets near town though and the first person she sees, is the one person she wanted to avoid, Jake.
This story is full of action, great characters and some very Alpha men in blue. They are protective of their loved ones and when they find the woman that holds their heart, they will do anything to protect them. Although, they do it within the limits of the law, even if they fight themselves to do it. I give this story a 4.5-star review and immediately purchased Maelstrom and Kismet to read when I can. I could not get enough of these characters, and I am looking forward to Balls to the Wall, Remy’s story. If you enjoy reading stories with sexy police and firefighters and strong, sassy women, then you will enjoy the Birch County Blue series.
Inferno by April Canavan is an amazing story that I have read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have loved reading and can not wait to see what this amazing author will write about next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about romantic suspense and contemporary romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The second book in the Birch County Blue series a well written story that kept me turning pages. I want to read the first book in this series. Jake Findlay and Margot's story of suspense, drama, danger, murder, fire, destruction, twists, turns, and romance. Well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Inferno: A Second Chance Romantic Suspense Police Romance is the third book in the Birch County Blue series and the first book I have read in this series.
I loved the story about Jake and Margot and their neverending love for each other, even when apart, or too painful to be together. The storyline is well written and full of suspense, drama, intrigue, danger, and a second chance for romance.
I cannot wait to read more books in this series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
She wanted to be the same girl that Jake had taken care of her whole life. She wanted to forget that anything bad had ever happened to her. The only place she had ever felt safe was in his arms." - Margot
Margot had walked away from her hometown of Birch and the love of her life, five years ago. Five, long years; years filled with new experiences and relationships. But the years and the distance couldn't quench the fire that blazed between Margot and Jake.
"He knew he loved her. He had known all his life. From the moment he had carried her through the woods as a child, she had taken a part of his soul and never given it back." - Jake
Jake knew, as soon as he saw Margot again, that it was all over between Laura and him. It was Margot, his Lilly-girl, always Margot. Jake swore to himself that this time, he wouldn't let Margot slip through his fingers...
However, Margot wasn't to rush into anything with Jake. Her heart had withstood enough pain; perhaps it was time to find someone else to love, maybe a firefighter? Ray seems like a sweet guy, even if he's a bit... possessive...
Arson fire after arson fire is sweeping through Birch County. It's a race against time for Margot and Jake as they battle the flames of destruction... And desire. Who will withstand the inferno...?
This is the third book in the Birch County Blue series but can be read as a standalone. I received the ARC in exchange for this honest review. This is the first book I have read by this author and the only book I had read in the series. Although I might want to read the other books, I felt this author did a good job of giving enough background about the secondary characters that I did not feel like I was missing something by not reading the other books. The book opens with Margot returning to her hometown because her best friend, Maya, has said there is an emergency, but it appears to be a ploy to get her home for good. Her friends have not only conspired to get her back in Maine, but a home and dream job as an Emergency Services Manager. Her new job has her working with many of her old friends in the Sheriff’s department, fire services and 911 dispatch. The other part of the plan is to reunite her with her first love, Jake. He is a Sheriff’s deputy and becomes her liaison with the department. As she starts her new job, there seems to be an arsonist that is causing problems in their town. These scenes continue to put her friends and colleagues in danger along with the general public. At the same time, Margot and Jake are working on their relationship. Although they have known each other since childhood, their past has some issues they need to work through and get to know the new adults they have become. Overall, a good story with enough suspense and intrigue to keep me reading even though I had figured some of it out!
This one deserves more that 5 stars -- absolutely a must read if you love romantic suspense and second chance romances. Full of everything you will want to keep you totally turning those pages till you finished. So well written with well developed characters. Loved the way they all supported and cared about each other.
This is the perfect read if you like romantic suspense and second chance romance. I couldn’t put it down. I loved all the love between the characters and all the potential storylines. This was my first read but it surely won’t be my last from this author.
Even though this is book 3, This is the first book by this author that I have read. You don't have to read the others first to enjoy this book. Full of emotions and action. I could not put it down and I definitely want to read the others.
Another slam dunk from April with Inferno!! This is Margot and Jake's story, and it's quite the journey. Margot has basically known Jake her whole life, and it feels like she's loved him just as long. When they finally find their way to each other, it's not long before something devastating happens, and Margot decides she needs to leave. Fast forward 5 years, and Margot is on her way back to the town she thought she left behind until one of her best friends calls under the guise of an emergency to lure her back, she doesn't hesitate and goes back. She is very happy to be back because she actually does miss her hometown and the people...at least most. She get pulled over on her way into town and of course the cop just so happens to be...yep, you guessed it...Jake!! She makes her way to her hotel, and she meets up with her friends, who by the way have already arranged for her to never want to leave again!! Maya being one of those friends, and the one that called with the "emergency" has an ulterior motive, and that is to get Jake and Margot back together again. There is a little glitch in said plan when Margot meets a guy at the local bar and they make plans to see each other. In the meantime, Maya has not only practically gotten her a job that Margot has always wanted, but a home as well!! It's an offer that Margot feels she would be a fool to turn down so she doesn't. She's enjoying being back, and being able to spend time with the people she loves, and she even starts working with Jake consulting, and they are getting along!! Jake has been seeing someone, but his heart really isn't in it, and as soon as Margot comes back, he pretty much decides that things with this woman are done. Margot gets hurt one night while at the bar trying to protect another woman, and Jake finds out and freaks out!! So does the guy that Margot had just barely started seeing, to the point that she doesn't feel comfortable and ends things before they've really started. And that's when Jake decides he can't live without his "Lilly girl" anymore. The things that happen in this book will have you going through every emotion imaginable, and back again!! Will the arsonist be caught? Will Jake and Margot finally get their happily ever after? You'll just have to read this AWEMAZING book to find out!! Can't wait to read more!!
Time for running ends, destined second chance Inferno: A Second Chance Romantic Suspense Police Romance (Birch Count Blue Book 3) by April Canavan is a well written, exciting police and fire dramatic suspense involving characters that are truly destined to be together. It just takes them longer than most to get there! Jake has known what he wants for ages, but the love his life wasn't as ready as soon as he was. Jake thinks he's moved on, but the moment Margot (Lilly-girl) returns, he knows he was only fooling himself. Even though Margot left as a serious heartbreaking accident, she never stopping loving or moved on from Jake. Her return was destined, it just took her well intentioned, meddlesome best friend to push these two into action. I also appreciate all the characters this author has developed in this series which promises more exciting suspense and drama to come! Each one is likely to be as steamy and explosive as the previous. I'm so looking forward to seeing if a certain couple get their second chance too! That's bound to blow all the others away for sure. Overall, an exciting read for the drama and suspense as well as a captivating love story as Jake and Margot get their second chance to finally get it right and live their HEA.
So good, and so intense. I truly love this series but need to take it slow. In the world of Birch County life moves pretty slow, friends are life long and family close, until something explodes. Birch County also seems to have more than its fare share of demented bad guys who believe they can just help themselves to whatever woman they are obsessed with. The problem is, the nutters seem so normal until they go over the edge. Inferno is a homecoming and story of reconnecting with a first and only love. It's also a tale of obsession and true courage. With an arsonist trying to make sure that connection isn't permanent the story takes a pretty intense turn. He loves the fire and the drama, and doesn't care who he kills, as long as there are casualties. It could be a child's death by fire or he could pull the trigger on a first responder. How are they going to stop him before he kills again is the question?
Read Book 1 - if you haven't. It's NOT necessary to understand and follow the storyline - it's just a good story and you should read it. That being said - The story of Jake & Margot is a great second chance/never got over you romance! But, sometimes second chances take a little more work and SOME people haven't got the memo re: MEANT TO BE! Thank you for your time, talent and the stories!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I look forward to the next one. I do need to say, I’m confused that the epilogue in this book is for a different series, but about the same group of men. Why wouldn’t it be about the 3rd book in this series and why name the new series something else when the story still revolves around the Birch county blue characters ?
I'm so glad I've discovered this author. So far every book I've read I have loved. This one was a second chance romance. As with all April takes me on an emotional rollercoaster. Loved the storyline and the characters. I like how alpha the male characters are in this series, but I love the females and how they don't let what happened to them make them victims and they fight back.
I really liked this series, the second book was just as good as the first. The camaraderie between the guys and girls was absolutely entertaining. I am definitely reading the next one.
This was a lovely second chance romance and carried on the stories of some of the characters from book 1 in the series. Great read and great to catch-up with some old faces.
I thought the book was alright. It just read a bit placed and slow at times. We do get to read from both POVs and we see flashbacks to Margot and Jake's relationship before. There is a hint of suspense in there.
I really liked Jake and Margot. When they first met they were too young and what they had between them was too powerful for their age. Time has passed. They are now older and more experienced.
