No Place Like Known: A Journey Of Self-Discovery, Chasing Dreams, And Finding Home Right Where You Are

Rate this book
If we were sitting down to coffee and you were to be totally honest with me, and with yourself, would you be willing to admit that maybe there’s a bit of restlessness in your soul?

It’s as if you know there’s more out there than what you are currently living, but you can’t quite figure out what that looks like or even how to get there. Maybe the idea of change scares you, but you are starting to fear the thought of everything staying the same even more than the change. Maybe you fear giving it all you’ve got, only to be let down. Maybe the approval of others keeps you from creating the life you really want, leading to your most authentic self.

Do you even know who that person is? So many of us have dreams buried deep down inside our hearts. Things we want to do that no one knows about. Talents that are far from being used. And most of all, we may wonder if all of these things will evolve into regrets if we don’t do something soon.Yet, you feel stuck. How do you begin? How do you add anything else into this crazy life you are already trying to keep up with? Maybe you’re a mom with kids. Can you even chase dreams AND chase kids in a healthy way? Should you even try? Will you always wonder what could have been if you don’t try?

If any of these thoughts, feelings or questions resonate with you, then join the journey that countless women are embarking on with Megan as she shares vulnerably and authentically from her personal quest to discover how to live her best life and how she came to find that there’s “No Place Like Known.”

This one was probably a 3.5 for me. The only reason I read this one was because I did the Facebook 12 books recommended by friends challenge things. And I have some thoughts… first, the advertising and marketing for this is super deceiving. I would never have picked this one up on my own because it looked like a self-help, change your life for the better kind of book. But after I read the intro I realized it was actually a faith-based book. Yet as I read it seemed to vacillate between “dream it, do it” and “partner with God in all you do”. So I don’t 100% agree with some of her theology, but I love how much she credits and chases after God in almost everything she does. Mostly, it’s just an incredible story of her life and doing hard, scary, unknown things. We have all been there at some point and so I think we will all find parts of this relatable. But it doesn’t always turn out the way it did for her. And j didn’t love the way she switched between different translations of the Bible to fit what she was trying to say. There were some good things I’ll take away and some great reminders of where God is in the middle of change. Just wasn’t 100% for me! However, I completely appreciate her vulnerability and willingness to share her story.

Wonderfully encouraging, honest, transparent offering from Megan Valentine. I've had the pleasure of being on Zoom calls with her in the past and can tell you that she is genuine and her message and heart remains the same. A true encourager from a place that includes broken and wounded with compassion, strength and courage she calls you forth to follow your dream and your best life now - yes, even in the midst of it all.

I recommend this book for any woman at any age.

This book read like sitting at a coffee shop with a friend, having real and raw conversations about life and our relationship with God. I read this with a Bible study & it was incredibly beneficial to unpack with others.

Sometimes you read a book that hits so close to home it is almost eery. I couldn't have read this book at a better time. Megan is one of my secret mentors, you know the mentors who don't actually know they are your mentors? Every time I hear her speak, read her posts, and now this book it creates a stirring in me. I feel like she is speaking directly to me. I now feel like people are really more alike than not, we deal with so many of the same things. I am grateful that she shared her story so openly.

Seriously, you just have to get this book if you are struggling at any level with calling and “becoming.” Megan is an incredible leader and entrepreneur and what she has done here gives us all permission to dream, grow more and absolutely stirs us to do whatever it takes with grit to power through into the best version of us. She is amazing! This is a must read for me!!!!!

I did not finish this book. I may go back to it at some point. But it was just one of those books that rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t like reading a book and feeling like I’m being sold to. Or bragged to. I understand the art of self promotion is important but the art of bragging is far to often forgotten in books like this.
