Samuel DuBois, an ex-slave with a dark and tragic past, and his sister Rachel head west to Texas in a wagon during the year 1868. Along the way he picks up a violent hitchhiker that wreaks havoc on their quiet journey to a village called Bela. It is not long before the ruthless Schiller Gang rides after Samuel DuBois, his sister Rachel and another hitchhiker Samuel DuBois helped, Judith Mallory. But as DuBois, Rachel and Judith enter the village of Bela, they meet the young, part-time bounty hunter and admired sheriff, Jeremiah Jameson, a lawman who is known throughout the west as "One Bullet," and who helps them prepare in case the Schiller Gang attacks the peaceful village. The odds are against them, but Jeremiah Jameson and his gunslinging past might be the key to saving the people of Bela.
Timeless themes of the power of the past on the present and the blur between good and evil transforms this novel into an enthralling, thrilling and adventurous western. The first book in the Jeremiah Jameson Series.

I enjoyed reading this new author's book, it had adventure as well as moral issues and also a bit of suspense. The characters were so intriguing that I had to read for hours to see what would happen next. I will definitely be reading another book from this author!
