Humanity has escaped the dead Earth, but can they escape their dark flaws?
Distinguished officer Faith Benson seemed headed for a promising career in the Kedraalian Republic Navy. Then came her dead-end assignment to the search-and-rescue ship Pandora.
After an accident sends the Pandora into the demilitarized zone separating the Republic from the brutal Azoren Federation, a series of events pushes the two powers closer to war.
And when war involves starships capable of bombarding planets, there are no winners.
Pick up First Shadow, the first three books in this twisty, suspenseful military space opera tale and find out what's in the shadows.
I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I joined the Air Force, and my career took me from coast to coast before depositing me in the St. Louis, Missouri area for several years. After a tour in Korea and a short return to the St. Louis area, I retired and moved to the greater Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. I write speculative fiction, mostly science fiction and fantasy. My favorite writers over the years have been Robert E. Howard, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Michael Crichton.
What a great storyline! I could not put this down, and often wondered about the characters when I wasn't reading. The Benson character is authentic, flawed a bit, and seems very real. The battle scenes are described with great detail, allowing the reader to really "see" the battles. This is an amazing series.
P R Adams spares no feelings. If you are not prepared to face the extreme violence of combat and the extremes of human depravity, these books are not for you. But I slogged on, drawn in by Faith Benson and her crewmates. It was worth it.
Riveting because always wondering what twist of plot would reveal the true commitment of each character. The plot was ever changing bringing up new surprises in which Benson, the main character, wielded a steady resilience that drew the story along through each continuous chapter.
Great space opera: - warships and strategy - politicians and intrigue - spies and conspirators - battles won and lost - friends that are really foes - foes that are really friends - new technology - ancient technology - winners and loosers and not always sure which are which!
Fantastic start and characters, a rich setting with a well developed political and military history. The technology is feasible and doesn't contain magical hand waving. A bit of a classic rust bucket ship, but that's my favourite type
I liked the scope of the story. It ranged from a pirate attack to an intergalactic war. There were betrayals and espionage. All in all it was an excellent story.
The ideas behind this series are brilliant but let down a little by the intricacies involved which sometimes make readers confused between the characters. With a little editing this would move from being a good series to a great one.
From the very beginning Was hooked. The characters were well developed and the twist and turns at times were unexpected; yet woven government intrigues that personified even today of corruption in government for selfish gain. Loved it.
Twisted plots within twisted plots. Characters both human and other with great abilities and deep flaws. A broken Empire now fractured into 3 or more bizarre peoples. A great and mind bending read.
As usual, this is not a rating for every book in this bundle, but as a thanks for compiling these 3 books in a bundle and give it for free in the Google Play Books.
